Steps to Write a Strong Female Character
Tumblr media
follow for more tips 💋 || request writing tips 💌
1. Establish the Foundation
Define Her Core Values: Is she driven by justice, survival, loyalty, ambition, or personal growth? Her strength should come from her beliefs, not just her abilities. Avoid One-Dimensional Labels: Don’t just make her “strong” by making her physically tough or emotionally closed-off. Strength can be kindness, intellect, resilience, or self-awareness. Give Her Agency: Let her make decisions that shape the story. She should do things, not just react to them.
2. Shape Her Role in the Story
Decide Her Impact: Is she the protagonist, a vital supporting character, or a narrative disruptor? Ensure her presence changes something in the world or in others. Don’t Make Her Exceptional Because She’s a Woman: Her value isn’t in outperforming men. Let her be exceptional because of who she is—not as a token or exception. Avoid “Smurfette Principial”: Please, for the love of womanhood, don’t make her the only girl in the group without giving her depth. Ensure she has personality, purpose, and individuality.
3. Build Her Character Development
Let Her Struggle: Strength comes from overcoming. Let her fail, grieve, doubt, and grow. Avoid Perfection: She doesn’t have to be likable at all times. She can be flawed, angry, soft, or conflicted—and still strong. Give Her Inner Conflict: What does she fear? What moral line does she walk? What identity does she wrestle with?
4. Define Her Strengths and Weaknesses
Balance Power With Humanity: Whether she’s skilled in combat, strategy, magic, or intellect, give her moments of vulnerability. Make Her Good at Something Specific: Give her talents that reflect her background or personality—not just generic “badass” skills. Let Her Have Limits: A strong character doesn’t mean an unstoppable one. Let her fail or need help without weakening her core.
5. Create Meaningful Relationships
Develop Non-Romantic Bonds: Friendships, mentors, family ties, rivals—these all add dimension. Don’t revolve her development solely around love. Avoid the “Not Like Other Girls” Trope: She can be unique without putting down other women. Show her supporting or learning from other women, too. Let Her Influence Others: Show how her presence shapes her allies, enemies, or the world. She shouldn’t exist in a vacuum.
6. Develop a Satisfying Arc
Let Her Evolve: Her story should reflect personal change—whether it’s becoming braver, wiser, freer, or more self-assured. Give Her a Legacy: Whether she lives or dies, wins or loses, her actions should leave a lasting impact. Avoid Symbolic Endings: Don’t make her story a metaphor or sacrifice unless it respects her agency and value. Her end shouldn’t serve someone else’s arc unless it aligns with her own journey.
Examples of Strong Female Characters
1. Film/TV Examples:
Nanette Cole (Black Mirror: The USS Callistor): Grows from terrified employee to determined captain, driven by freedom, protection, and survival.
Zuko-era Katara (Avatar: The Last Airbender): Empathic, powerful, assertive, she navigates grief, anger, and leadership without losing herself.
Fleabag (Fleabag): Raw, flawed, brilliant, her strength lies in honesty and vulnerability.
2. Literature Examples:
Jo March (Little Women): Ambitious, temperamental, and emotionally complex, she defies gender norms without rejecting emotion or family.
Sabaa Tahir’s Laia (An Ember in the Ashes): Starts timid and afraid, evolves into a fierce rebel without losing her compassion.
Claire Warden (The Guardians of Camoria series): Cynical, chaotic, and clairvoyant, she struggles with violence, abandonment, and self-doubt, yet holds unmatched emotional endurance and tactical brilliance.

no one can be normal about this ever but anakin does objectify padme & act possessive towards her, he does idolize her, he does put her in the place of his mother, he does exhibit all these behaviors and also form a deep connection with her that is incredibly personally fulfilling for both of them. it’s not either/or and in fact it’s a key part of their dynamic. his first line to her is “are you an angel?” and then he spends ten years meditating on her, dreaming of her—that is deification, that is putting her on a pedastal. she in turn sees him as this token from an old era of her life, she keeps his good luck charm for all of those ten years and carries that memory of his innocence. there’s always this tension between the real world and their own special secret world, the adult duties they have and the arrested development of their childhood traumas, whether they can run away together, whether these visions anakin has of the people he’s not supposed to love are real, all this fog. & to combat this, they carve out a little hole in the galaxy that’s only theirs. it’s idealism. they both represent to the other something real and freeing and scary and transgressive. and that does play into the violence, the mega stakes of what it means for anakin to think padme has sold him out. that’s not an excuse and that’s not me saying they’re a straightforwardly abusive relationship, but they are a deep bond formed amidst serious turmoil. and palpatine preys on that. he ferments that shit. & it’s unfortunate because 9 times out of 10 you can’t get past the “well are they abusive/toxic or not” thing & people expressing general performative disgust at a fictional dynamic being less than a platonic ideal . when this is melodrama

Why Cody Burns succeeded where Rafael Esquivel failed
Tumblr media
Honestly, Raf is one of those characters I never thought much of, in part because he was so forgettable. More often than not in Prime, Raf was just the sweet baby who everybody thought the world of and wanted to keep out of harm's way, even though the most he ever did in the show was provide technical help with Earth machinery or play the part of innocent child. This was not helped by the fact that he was buddy-ed up with the mute Bumblebee, who's sole contributions up until his two part arc and the series finale was additional man power and adorable mimic. While this was good for background humor, it ultimately did nothing to the overall storyline in the series, both for Raf and for Bee, and for the series itself.
By contrast, Cody Burns - the resident team baby, beloved by all and unwaveringly helpful in rescue missions - stood out far more than Raf. And what's more, is that he never had "his own" Autobot/Cybertronian partner, when literally his whole family had one of their own.
Allow me to delve into this, hopefully, final observatory post regarding the TFP kids.
Of all the humans, we quite frankly get the least out of Raf. We know he's a prodigy, given that he's twelve (and a quarter) and jumped straight into the same classes as Miko and Jack, the former of whom is no slouch as I've already covered. We're shown that his family allows him free reign of Jasper, as he's playing by himself near the road, although he's alone. That tells us that his family is either extremely lax in their attention for their youngest child, or that Jasper is an actually safe location for a kid who's barely filling out his shoes to be on his own. Whether or not either option is true, that's dangerous and shows that Raf goes unnoticed by his family. I'm not saying they're abusive or willfully neglectful of him, but this points us to the conclusion that Raf has a very lonely home life, and we already know that he's got zero friends until he meets the Autobots.
This could have been a great plot-point for the series: by giving Team Prime a small child with no one for company, the writers could have more clearly given the Autobots hope for the future of the War/after the War, while Raf could have gained confidence and security from having people who actually cared and listened to him. It could have been fun, having him be the human cycling through the Autobots for various needs. Imagine Raf going to Optimus for comfort after another day of feeling ignored, talking to Arcee for ideas on how to stand up to Vince (being the sole child in class makes you a target, after all), or coming to Bulkhead for how to struggle through the physical aspects of his school regimen (i.e. the time he brought up the rope climbing to Ratchet.) The possibilities were endless.
But instead, he's specifically handed over to Bee. Bee, who is the disabled child that is also largely forgotten, and who, while he does bond with Raf and provide him with much needed company, offers nothing else in the way of development or storylines. We got something marginally better when Raf started spending time with the grumpy grandpa that is Ratchet, which was great to highlight Ratchet's soft side that nurtures his own character progression, but it's not enough for Raf's development. I greatly prefer the company of the Autobots to the human characters in virtually every series, but there needs to be a noticable human presence to ground the Autobots' protective instincts toward Earth and to push along the story. Raf ended up being a token character not even halfway through the first season, which is a shame given his potential, especially since he and Bee ended up being background décor.
Now, as a counterpoint, we come to Cody Burns.
Tumblr media
Like Raf, Cody is the youngest child of the Burns clan - and I say clan because his family has been the one providing Griffin Rock's safety and protection for about...roughly three hundred years? (Correct me if I'm wrong, but his family were the ones in-universe to discover the island. Thus, there's a large claim and respect to his family's name.) His father Charlie is the chief of police; his oldest brother Kade is the chief firefighter; his older sister Dani is the helicopter pilot and primary search and rescue operator; and his brother Graham, who's about eight years older than ten year old Cody, is already a chief engineer and inventor himself. Clearly, Cody has an impressive family. Clearly, they're the best of the best, and he couldn't be prouder of them.
And clearly, Cody feels the need to earn his stripes given their talents and the family's reputation.
A recurring subplot in Rescue Bots is how Cody is insecure about his role on the team, and that often leads him to attempt to provide help and find his place in life in the family. Sometimes, this works; although he's often left monitoring the situations across the island at home through the cameras, Cody finds ways of giving advice or pointing out a hazard that the others are oblivious to that would have likely killed them. And this is a noble occupation his fills, with his aid saving many lives and much trouble.
However, sitting around and merely being an observer wears on him. It makes him restless, and he often seeks aid from the 'Bots to figure out his problems before typical shenanigans ensue that rectify the current episode's dilemma.
This is an important part of Cody's characterization because while he does occasionally feel left out/ignored by his family, he understands it is because of their duties. Charlie has to daily wrangle different criminals and legal offenses while Graham is eagerly going to town on his latest project. Kade and Dani each have their own lives that are beginning and that they're pursuing, but additionally maintain an intense sibling rivalry due to them being not even three years apart. Thus, while they're seeing they're respective girlfriend and boyfriend, they're also competing in various childish ways that, sometimes, result in massive fights. It's no small wonder Cody rarely goes to them for advice.
For this, he's left with the 'Bots, and because they view him as their darling little brother who inspires them every day to give the humans of Griffin Rock and Earth a chance, they listen and advise him. Heatwave is the oldest of the 'Bots, and thus more experienced; additionally, Heatwave more than once nearly threw in the towel in the early days, but only relented due to Cody's convictions and virtues. Therefore, while they have a special bond without it being the sole focus, Cody tends to run to Heatwave the most when emotionally unwell and Charlie is unavailable. Heatwave in turn gives him comfort and advice, and backs him up in most situations. Chase is one he less often seeks help from, mostly due to Chase's nature of being a rigid rulebook. Most times Cody helps Chase understand human expressions and terms when Charlie is busy or otherwise engaged, with both their efforts helping the police 'Bot to loosen up. There are times when he needs Chase's input, as strange as that aid might be, and Cody doesn't hesitate to seek it.
Boulder he goes to almost as regularly as Heatwave, and the two get along fantastically. Boulder provides him with loving company he's hungry for, and sound advice without being overbearing. Blades sometimes needs more encouragement than anything, and thus Cody plays the rare part of helping guide someone through their numerous fears. Because of that, the 'copter 'Bot is extremely loyal and protective of Cody, and when Cody does ask for his help or companionship, Blades readily gives it. Sometimes, Blades will even go above and beyond what is asked, and never asks for anything in return.
These are healthy, constantly growing relationships that Cody develops with the 'Bots, as well as magnificent characterizations that are always expanding. While the focus tends to be shown through Cody's eyes or centered around him, it never fixates on him more than is necessary. Rather, by setting him up as the show's heart, the writing team is able to stretch out towards arcs related to other characters, both the 'Bots and their specific partners, and the other human cast members who interact with the 'Bots on a less frequent basis.
This is how Cody takes the potential of Raf from Prime and not only runs with it, but builds up countless heartwarming moments and strong characterizations over the course of Rescue Bots' run. Cody is positively and rightly shown as the glue of the family element of the show, and is given the autonomy to maintain his own personality and growth without being forgotten like Raf consistently was. That's why Cody stands out, and poor Raf is left hanging.
Tumblr media
Well, that's my thoughts on the matter. I felt I should tackle Raf, given I covered his two peers, and Cody is a cute, fun, and constantly evolving counterpart to Raf that explains much of why I feel the poor baby of Team Prime was ultimately misused and unnecessary. I hope you enjoyed this, and that it got some gears turning in your heads.
I'll be seeing you guys!

I just realized today after thinking about things long and hard that most of the hate Jimin gets today especially within the fandom is because of his bond with Jungkook. When I say it is because of Jungkook I don’t mean that Jungkook himself caused it, I mean that Jimin being associated to Jungkook, having a bond with him, loving him and being loved by him is the one of the biggest reasons he gets all the hate he gets today.
The very first people who started with this insane hate against Jimin were taekookers who developed a hate boner for him and started sending him death threats as early as 2015 because according to them Jimin kept coming in between their ship. Things got go much worse for Jimin after GCF in Tokyo and after 2017 in general as we all saw a huge increase in Jikook moments (because they were together alot and not because the company was pushing a narrative that they were the closest) and a huge decline in taekook moments which made the cult go feral. That is when the vitriol and vile hate we see these people have for Jimin started.
Whether they want to admit it or not, majority of Taehyung’s fans within the fandom are taekookers or were at some point and that led them to hate him too and that hate continued even after some of them stopped shipping taekook and became solo stans.
Jungkook solos always had a hate boner for Jimin and I believe this is because they saw and still see what most of us see in Jikook and it makes them extremely uncomfortable and that is why they constantly project unto Jungkook by claiming that Jimin makes him uncomfortable and that Jungkook hates Jimin and that’s why they don’t like him but the truth is that, they are the ones who felt uncomfortable watching Jimin and Jungkook interact. Something about Jimin and Jungkook’s bond always felt “weird” to them and they could sense the things jikookers feel when they see Jikook interact and seeing as most Jk’s stans are Y/Ns who picture themselves with him and most of them are deeply homophobic, it makes sense that they would have a huge problem with Jimin. I mean they know about Jimin having his mouth on Jk’s neck long enough to leave bruises. They know about Jimin’s sweaty earlobes being in Jk’s mouth. They know about Jungkook choosing to spend many a nights with Jimin doing “nothing” so it makes sense why they are uncomfortable.
Without Jungkook in Jimin’s life, there would be no taekookers to hate on him, no Tae solos (ex taekookers) to hate on him and no JK solos to hate on him either.
We also wouldn’t have blinks so desperately hating on Jimin because we know that a good number of Jk solos are blinks who token stan Jk just to hate on Jimin and other members.
Me specifically speaking about the hate Jimin gets because of his affiliation to Jungkook doesn’t mean Jungkook also doesn’t get hated because of his bond with Jimin but everyone knows that the hate Jimin gets is tripple what Jungkook gets. Stan tweet in particular seems to have it out for Jimin and I honestly don’t understand why. They look for the least opportunities to hate on him and mass like hate posts about him and in those posts, we see all the other idiots like taekookers, jjks, tae solos and other solos who hate Jimin more than they love their own faves because they don’t mind liking and even rting a post from a hater who has also hated on one of their faves so long as that person is dragging Jimin.
So many times I have seen people say Jimin’s solo stans are the worst solo stans but I can honestly say that Jk solo stans are the worst and it baffles me how two people can love each other so much and yet have the nastiest fans who are at each other’s throats every single day. I say Jk solo stans are the worst because they are manipulative, deception and pure evil. Don’t get me wrong, PJMs are a piece of work but they haven’t gotten to that level of evil yet in my books. Jjks are evil set of people. This fandom and the entire kpop community never think twice about any rumors that concern Jimin as they eat it up no questions asked, JJKs know this and they use it to their advantage. I have seen these people fake tweets, websites, messages and so many other things and spread them around just to “prove” that Jimin’s success is fraudulent because they cannot stand the fact that Jimin is the only member who can compete with Jk. They have single handedly created and spread the narrative that Jimin is fraudulent. After Jimin released his album they faked a tweet from one of the biggest Jimin funds accounts claiming that PJMs sent phones to the US to stream for Jimin. Before you ask me how I know they faked it let me tell you. JJKs would rather die than have Jimin break any of Jk’s records so if they could boost streams by sending phones to the US, JJks would have been the first ones to do it. They made up a fake tweet and spread it around and no one questioned it’s authenticity and even when the account denied it, no one cared. First of all who is stupid enough to do something like that and make a tweet about it? JJKs also created a fake account pretending to be a Jimin solo and threatened to leak Jk’s passport information a few weeks back and even though it was clear that they did it, no one batted an eye and jimin solos took the blame. Jjks/tkkrs have faked two gcs now (that we know of ) and tried to pin in on jkkrs. One happened right before Jimin’s album dropped (after we got Tteokbokki By Jk) and then the next one happened after AYS episode 6.
This is why I say these people are pure evil because I have seen Jimin solos do and say some messed up things against Jk but not up to the level of JK solos. They throw stones every damn time and hide their hands and Jimin takes the fall for it. They fake articles about him and his family, about his numbers, his success and the sad part is, they have way of getting the media to pick up on their bullshit.
Tae solos (ex taekookers) are just lazy. No offense to Taehyung’s beautiful soul but most of his fans don’t give a tiny rats ass about anything but his face. They don’t care about the music he makes, about his art. They are so quick to like and view and follow his accounts everywhere but when it comes to streaming his songs and actually supporting him, they don’t do it and because of that, they lash out at Jimin and call his fraudelent because they could never believe that Jimin whom they always considered inferior to Tae would get better streaming numbers than him. They spent years believing that the number of likes and followers someone has on social media equals success and when reality hit them in the face, they couldn’t accept that they were wrong but resorted to accuse Jimin of being fraudelent. How does hating on another person’s success make you succeed?
Taekookers, Jjks, and Tae solos (ex taekookers) have made all sorts of rumors about Jimin. They have accused him of sleeping with bang pd for favors (Jimin solos have done the same thing to Jk btw), they have accused Jimin of selling himself to pdogg and the other producers for favors. They have accused Jimin of being jealous of Jk and Tae. And the funny thing is, because these people hate Jimin so much and are desperate to bring him down, they choose to believe any negative thing they see about him whether it makes sense to them or not. Someone could post an article tomorrow claiming that Jimin is Donald Trump’s lover and you will see that post having over 100k likes with people agreeing to it even though they know it isn’t true. No one cares about the truth when it comes to Jimin, they just care about having a reason to drag him and most of this is because Jimin met a doe eyed boy over a decade ago and loved him.
No one would have cared about hating Jimin this much if he wasn’t a part of Jungkook’s life. Taekookers, tae solos, jjks wouldn’t have had this deep hate for Jimin if Jimin didn’t love Jungkook and if Jungkook didn’t love Jimin too and this is one of the reasons why Jimin and Jungkook just never made sense to me as platonic friends. There has got to be a reason why them together drives people so crazy and if their love and feelings for each other was just at the level of bestfriends, things would never have been this bad. If taekookers really didn’t see and fear something about jikook’s bond, they wouldn’t hate him so much or spend almost all their time talking about him on their blogs. Taekookers on tumblr can barely go a single day without bringing Jimin up on their blogs. Some Tae fans on tumblr can barely go a single day without bringing him up and talking about his success and work and then we have JJKs who are quite literally obsessed with Jimin and then Jimin solos obsessed with Jk. If JJks didn’t feel the tension between Jikook they wouldn’t project their discomfort and hate unto Jk so much.
Regardless of whether what Jimin and Jungkook have is platonic or not, I think it says alot that how they feel for each other brings them so much hate alone and together. I think it says alot that despite all these hate they have gotten for years, they just keep getting stronger. I think it says alot that millions of people cannot stand the ground Jimin walks on just because he has Jungkook in his life. Whether people choose to admit it or not, they feel the strong bond Jikook have and for some reason this frightens them.
No one breaks into an empty house. No one puts so much effort into something that isn’t relevant so usually when a whole lot of people are doing everything in their power to break or bring something down, it is usually because they see and fear it’s power. No one would care about hating on Jimin so much if they really thought Jk hated him. No one would care about discrediting his success so much of they really thought he was irrelevant, no one would try to make him the villain so much, if they didn’t see the beauty of his soul and no one would try so hard to dim his light if they only saw darkness.
It breaks my heart that their love for each other is one of the biggest things that brings them hate but there is some weird satisfaction I get from knowing that their bond is strong, deep and obvious enough to get this many people trying to destroy them individually and together. No great person ever had it easy. No one who made history ever went through life without getting stones thrown at them so I take this to mean that Jimin and Jungkook are meant for the greatest things. When people see your grace and the bright future ahead of you, they try to break your wings before you even realize you can fly but the good thing is, they always, always fail.

Random fucking Warriors headcanons because I can
A lot of this is going to be Ajax and Rembrandt, I'm staying on brand
Rembrandt is the most sarcastic/sassy out of the group. This is barely even a headcanon, I've just been listening to her lines in the album and she's just so sarcastic. Like "this is a graveyard" and just the way she says "can we stay on track" I just imagine her rolling her eyes and being so sassy about almost everything
Ajax loves loves loves music. She would have been a musician in a different life. This is something she and Mercy bond over later on. She's also a great dancer
Mercy is a good fighter BUT extremely uncoordinated. Like she's throwing wild punches and barely even looking where she's hitting but she's still gonna knock you out
Rembrandt and Ajax still flirt relentlessly after years of being together, like sickly sweet flirting to the point where even Cowgirl is telling them to get a room
Swan is a great singer. She usually sings old jazz songs and has accidentally put the other Warriors to sleep more than once because she has such a calming voice
Swan and Ajax definitely drunkenly made out at least once before Rembrandt and Mercy came into the picture. Both of them will take that to their grave
Cowgirl likes comics and bonds with Fox over that
Rembrandt, Ajax, and Swan are all gay. Mercy is gay with the biggest case of comphet you've ever seen before she met Swan. Cochise, Cleon, and Fox are bi. Cowgirl is the token straight girl in the gang
I've seen some people toss around the idea that Cleon and Masai start developing feelings for each other after the events of the album but I'm not a mega fan of the idea. However, I do think they become very close friends, and through that the Warriors and the Gramercy Riffs develop an allegiance covering the top and bottom ends of the boroughs (from the Bronx to southern Brooklyn)
Not a headcanon but a confirmation. The subways in the Bronx fucking SUCK. I have had the displeasure of trying to get from the Bronx to Brooklyn all of like five times and it is a terrible trip even without the whole of NYC trying to kill you on the way
Cochise is the one who does everyone's hair. I like to think she was the oldest of a lot of siblings (because I relate) and had the job of doing everyone's hair to get them ready for school. Ajax and Cleon's braids, Fox's space buns, etc. She also cuts Rembrandt's hair because she once saw Rembrandt about to cut her own hair with kitchen scissors and put an immediate stop to it
Cowgirl subway surfs
Rembrandt has mega ADHD
Rembrandt owns a lot of hoodies and typically wears really baggy clothes, but all of her actual shirts are crop tops (the shirts she's not stealing from Ajax)
Going off that, Mercy and Rembrandt are the clothing thieves in their relationships. Mercy does it because she can and she thinks it's funny when Swan gets confused wondering where all her clothes went. Rembrandt does it because Ajax's day to day clothes are comfier and also she likes seeing Ajax get flustered Every. Single. Time.

Hear me out 🖐️😌
What if SJM planned for a rejected bond trope all along?
Walk with me 🚶🏽‍♀️‍➡️
What if she knew she wanted to do it - but she was still indecisive on who/which couple would have it?
She has admitted Lucien was originally supposed to end up with Nesta - that's why the flames on her drawer were there as early as the second chapter of ACOTAR.
And if you think about it - they'd honestly make a decent couple? they're both witty and sharp and have a darker sense of humor and Lucien is aristocratic in a way that Nesta was supposed to be drawn to. He is basically Eris - without the scrupulous morals. Why would SJM scrap that?
1. It could be just due to the introduction of Cassian - the chemistry those two had on the page that even SJM didn't expect
Or, perhaps:
2. If the rejected bond trope was to be done with Nesta & Lucien - SJM realized very quickly after fleshing out Nesta's character a bit more that this hellion of a woman wouldn't even leave Hybern before immediately rejecting that bond. There would've been zero build up - zero drama - zero story because the second Lucien claimed her as his mate, Nesta would've renounced it or made it her mission to find any possible way to reject the bond.
The rejected bond in itself is a major plot point/twist. It does not make sense to have a couple reject the bond - then fall in love. It does not make sense to have a couple fall in love - then reject a bond. It's simply not a logical process of events 🤷🏻‍♀️ you'd essentially be wasting 700 pages of a love story development for no reason.
So then if SJM were to do a rejected bond trope - who else does that leave?
Elain mf Archeron 😌
It makes sense that she wrote them as "fated mates" ... and then proceeded to spend 3 books showing us every which way how they are incompatible. How they are doing just fine being on opposite sides of the continent. How they ignore each other, avoid each other. How they both have lead separate lives and are starting to show romantic interest in other people, rather than each other.
The way she has written Elucien makes sense ... only IF they were to become the "rejected mates" trope.
Only if they were meant to break the bond, and find true love outside of fate.
It makes sense then, that SJM went on the today show and talked about rejected mates. It makes sense why she gave Azriel - not Lucien - a bonus chapter. It makes sense how every single thing that should have belonged to Lucien - Elain included - was written with Azriel instead.
Let me show my work 🤨:
I have a much lengthier post I can't be bothered to find that shows exactly how Elucien should've been written to make readers root for that forced proximity - reluctant mates trope (again) ...
But to summarize: If Elucien stood a chance, SJM would've kept Lucien around. She would've had Lucien save Elain from Hybern. She would've had Elain give Lucien a solstice gift. She would've had Lucien figure out Elain's powers. She would've had Lucien & Elain in the bonus chapter.
So - in conclusion - SJM likely always had the rejected mates trope in mind. She couldn't have done it with Nesta - so that left Elain. She had initially planned for Moriel, so Elain's "reluctant" mate defaulted to Lucien. But then when she wrote ACOWAR - more and more signs and similarities and chemistry started popping up with Elain & Azriel - and the plot thickened.
Mor hastily became SJM's token LGBTQ+ representation. Azriel became Elain's true love interest. Lucien became the rejected mate - though not without planting breadcrumbs for his happily ever after as well.
I do not believe with the passion SJM has for the #3 that she was able to resist a perfect 3x3 setup. Everything falls into place with Elriel. It's a master plan, really. And if she stumbled upon this by accident even, well done SJM.

Say what you will about the ability of the people chosen for the project to deliver a Zelda movie that doesn't suck. But I'm seeing a lot of people saying Zelda doesn't have enough story to make a movie and I'm like... What are you even talking about? Zelda games are probably the most narrative-driven out of all Nintendo's IPs and the lore is a big part of why they're so popular.
Like, something like Mario or Banjo-Kazooie can be a challenge to adapt because there's basically no plot-progression between the inciting incident and the final boss. You just visit a bunch of different worlds to obtain tokens and none of it builds toward anything and there aren't any narrative twists or turns and nobody has a character arc. But that hasn't really been the case for Zelda since the very earliest games. Virtually every Zelda from Link to the Past onward has some semblance of a plot with a beginning, a midpoint plot twist or reveal, and an ending, storylines that play out for various NPCs and sidekicks, and lore drops explaining what happened in the ancient past that informs the current state of affairs, and things that change throughout the game that show the impact of Link's actions as he completes different legs of his quest.
But also like, even if it were true that Zelda games "have no story", do these people have no imagination? Think of all fairy tales that have been adapted into feature-length Disney movie that were originally like a 10-minute read.
If anything a Zelda movie is a bad idea because I'd rather have a series. Like, IDK if they're going to make an original story, but if they were going to adapt one of the games OoT seems like the obvious choice. Not just because of its popularity, but because of it's impact on the rest of the series as the origin point for the three divergent timelines. And I feel like if you were to do just one movie based on OoT or even split it into 2 movies, it would still feel really rushed to have Link bouncing from location to location to get all the spiritual stones and sage medallions and there wouldn't be enough time to really develop all the different races and their problems and Link's relationships with the sages beyond what we already got in the original game in just 2-4 hours. So what would be the point?
I'd rather see it adapted as a series that can take its time fleshing out all the characters and adding more depth to the original story. I want to see Navi with more personality and more of an emphasis on her developing a bond with Link and how her leaving at the end affected him so you have a deeper understanding of his feelings going into Majora's Mask. I want an episode dedicated to Ganondorf's backstory and how a harsh life in the desert and the influence of his surrogate mothers turned him from someone who might've been a noble leader at one point into the person he ultimately became and how he and Nabooru may have once been close until Ganondorf's moral compromises drove her to oppose him. I want an emphasis on the coming of age aspect of the story with Link's peculiar position used to explore the question of what actually makes someone an adult. I want an episode dedicated to showing us everything Zelda went through after her kingdom was taken over and she had to go into hiding and learn to fight so she could one day take it back. There are so many opportunities to expand upon the ideas presented in the original OoT that one movie wouldn't be enough to do it justice.
But that's pretty much true for most Zelda games. Like, they all have at least 4 dungeons, but usually more, and there's always a sidequest you have to do for each dungeon to make it accessible, and it usually involves helping out the people living in the immediate area surrounding the dungeon who are being affected by whatever curse has befallen it. So even when the plots are really thin, the very nature of them being structured and paced around taking you to a bunch of different locations that each have their own mini-narrative attached makes it awkward to try to adapt any game or even write an original story following the formula of the games as a single three-act movie rather than as a series of episodic chapters.
Something like Majora's Mask would especially benefit from being adapted as a series rather than a movie since it's the sidequests that make it as beloved as it is and it would feel too cluttered to try and cram all of them in, but you'd lose a lot of emotional impact if you only focused on a select few.

lily + 1, 2, 5, 7!
Lily! my imperfect (I insist with love) darling.
1. what i most like about them
well we do love someone who haunts a narrative.
I also love her having such a complex relationship with Petunia and this weird and probably very unsettling experience of being a golden child in a family and gradually growing apart because they just can't understand anything you're experiencing and you're so far away from them for so much of the year. She's on a pedestal in the narrative, but she was also on a pedestal in her family system, and that's a difficult, dehumanizing place to be.
2. what i hate about them
There's not enough of her canonically to hate I think! I guess I just hate how little of her we get.
5. a headcanon i have
She and Snape got up to using dark magic together. I think as a muggleborn she wouldn't have had such a clear aversion to it that some of the kids raised wizarding would. Part of why she maintained her friendship with snape for so long, well past when anyone else would think it was rational, was not just personal loyalty to a childhood friend but because she loved doing magic and making potions with him and knew that they had something unique there in their shared magical power that shouldn't couldn't find with another person.
also, she and Sirius drink firewhisky together (James is too much of a lightweight), and it's something they first bond over while building their friendship which ends up being quite deep.
7. my unpopular opinion on them
I see people heacanoning her as very politically conscious, and I just don't. I think she fell for being the exceptional muggleborn for a long time - way longer than she should have.
I think her experience as a golden child in her family system + her genuine friendship with Snape + Slughorn welcoming her into Slug Club + her exceptional magical talent made her believe that she genuinely was special and deserving of everything and that maybe other muggleborns should try harder -- instead of seeing her place as the token muggleborn in Slug Club as a release of a pressure value on a system of blood supremacy at a time of escalating hostilities. (Look! We're not prejudiced! Here is our token muggleborn! She makes Potions so well!) (We love respectability politics!)
It's SO tempting to believe things like that -- especially as a young teenager. I feel so much sympathy for her.
After her friendship with Snape finally blew up, I think she started to see things very differently. I also think that other muggleborns at Hogwarts did not trust her (because of her clear friendship with Snape and Slughorn's favoritism), and it was only in her final few years that she was able to deepen those friendships and gain more political consciousness.
oh! also that she was closer to Sirius than to Remus (though it took longer to develop). I don't consider the movies canon. I love her friendship with Remus in fics, but that's not how I think of her.
BONUS: a headcanon that other people have that I hate
when people headcanon her as fat/curvy/chubby/whatever and say that she just couldn't believe James Potter was asking her out because of that. ugh. I hate it. I love chubby Lily as a headcanon but I hate that version.

Guess the one that I put the most effort on (impossible)
There's a bit going on with these guys lol
First, to get it out of the way, the pkmn meanings:
Meg: she's mainly ice type.
alolan vulpix, bc ice fox
Lycanroc, the midnight form bc it's emo like her (and shows how she changed from a sweet little girl to a rebellious rascal)*
Absol: they appear when disasters are about to happen, warn ppl to protect them. Also fits the emo vibe for meg
Fox: he's a fire type trainer
Vulpix: fire fox
Growlithe: fire pokemon, and also a very loyal dog.
Marowak:
Spring: not a particular type
Trubbish: cute critter that is found in the streets, fitting for a guy who lives in the streets.
Herdier: another loyal dog. Also, this one is focused on protecting others smaller than itself
Diggersby: rabbit token. It helps construction workers
Ok storytime now. For context, Meg and Fox aren't related. But they still share the brother-sister relationship. Also, Meg and Fox are originally from Alola, While spring is from Unova.
In here, meg gets orphaned after the tragic fire incident that happened in her house. She too gets hurt from it, but hides the scars with her clothes. And also, she develops a phobia and hatred of fire and fire type pokemon. (Weirdly enough, Fox is obsessed with fire type pokemon, so they clash a lot with this, though they try to not let it get in the way of their relationship)
In the orphanage she meets fox and spring, Fox (a boy close to her age)is a lost baby, so he basically lived like that his whole life. And spring (an older kid) lost his parents to a mysterious trip that he knows little about.
They develop a close family bond, but that doesn't stop them from separating. Spring leaves first, because he wants to go back to his home in Unova. He asks Fox and Meg if they want to join him, but they refuse, because they don't want to leave their home. Some years later, is Fox the one who leaves, since (apparently) a lost relative of him tracked him down and wants him to go to Galar to live with them. Fox is thrilled, since he never expected to find his family ever, and without hesitation he accepts, and asks meg again if she wants to go with him, and she refuses again. But now, she gets mad at him, and threatens to cut contact with him if he leaves. Fox, doesn't budge and leaves anyways. They haven't seen each other for a few years now...
As of now, spring has a construction work in Unova, Fox is a gym trainer for the fire gym in Galar, and Meg is just starting her pokemon adventure (more on that later :p)

Bond Tokenization and Its Top Use Cases: A Comprehensive Guide
In many ways, blockchain, as a technology, has paradigm shifts in almost every industry, and second, when it comes to changing the financial landscape. For bonds, perhaps the most revolutionary development is digitizing traditional bond instruments through tokenization, which thus allows digital securities. Rights and ownership of the bond will be converted into a digital token for greater efficiency, transparency, and access. This blog will explore what bond tokenization is, its top applications, and how it could usher in a new era for financial markets.
Tumblr media
Bond Tokenization
Bond tokenization is developing a digital representation of a bond on a blockchain. Unlike regular bonds, though issued and traded through intermediaries, tokenized bonds make use of smart contracts and blockchain protocols to automate and secure their transactions. These tokens are actually fractional ownership in a bond, and investors can trade those fractions on digital platforms.
High-value bonds can now be broken down into smaller, divisible units and tokenized. This, therefore, democratizes investment opportunities, as it opens the gates to investments previously limited to institutional investors. In addition, every single transaction is recorded in the immutable ledger of blockchains, giving unparalleled transparency and lower risks for fraud.
Check out us : Bond tokenization services
Benefits of Bond Tokenization
1. Enhanced Liquidity
Conventional bonds usually suffer from illiquidity because they are high-denomination instruments with a scant secondary market. Tokenization helps overcome such issues through fractional ownership and listing of tokens on digital asset exchanges. Investors would ideally be allowed to trade small quantities of bonds, thus enabling liquidity and greater participation.
2. Increased Accessibility
They are generally very illiquid even with high denominations and lack secondary activity; hence, the popularity of tokenization. The fractionation would help to buy and sell these tokens on digital asset exchanges. Investors have the option to split small portions of bonds into smaller pieces and sell them for unlocking liquidity and wider participation.
3. Cost Efficiency
Tokenization allows smaller investors to access bond markets while cutting entry barriers. Retail investors can now access previously inaccessible fixed-income instruments through fractionalization.
4. Transparency and Security
It is because of the decentralized and tamper-proof characteristics of blockchain that all transactions are open to view and verifiable. This confidence is reposed by the stakeholders in such systems, which also minimizes the risks involved due to fraud or manipulation.
5. Global Reach
They can be tokenized and opened to the rest of the globe, allowing issuers to access a wider audience and investors to trade in geographic diversifications through international offerings.
Top Use Cases of Bond Tokenization
1. Corporate Bonds
Essentially, tokenization makes the process of both issuing and trading within the ambit of corporate bonds quite seamless and helps in easy cost-effective raising of capital by corporates. Startup ventures and small and medium enterprises are only going to get more and more mileage by reaching as many global investors digitally as possible. For example, tokenized bonds could lead to micro-investments that will increase the investor base of start-ups beyond traditional sources.
2. Government Bonds
By tokenizing governmental treasury bonds, it widens access to the retail investor for having transparency and funds traceable by individual end-users. It is also going to simplify and cut down a lot of administrative costs when adopted by 'any' government for bond issuance over the blockchain.
3. Green Bonds
Green bonds are primarily meant to finance those projects that will have been certified environmentally friendly; they are becoming very popular now. Tokenization assumes a much important role here-it enhances the entire process by ensuring transparency in the utilization of funds and traceability. Investments made by the investors in these green projects can be tracked against the delivery of impacts, gaining confidence in green initiatives.
4. Real Estate- Representative Bonds
Property is a severely illiquid type of asset, but tokenized bonds borrowed against property can draw illiquidity into it. It allows the investors to buy tokens that represent fractional ownership of those real estate assets through which one can enter into the property market without having to buy the whole asset.
5. Municipal Bonds
Municipalities often raise funds for work on their infrastructures through bond sells. However, tokenization makes such bonds attractive by reducing costs and instantaneous 24-hour monitoring on the path of the funds. Indeed, accountability engenders community participation as well.
6. Convertible Bonds
Tokenized convertible bonds, allowing conversion to equity at predetermined rates and conditions, provide open choices for investors. An automated conversion process can be created through blockchain platforms, thus eliminating complex administrative requirements.
7. Securitized Debt Instruments
Securitization involves pooling together debt instruments in a fund so that the securities are backed by these debt instruments. End-to-end tracking in real time, along with fractional ownership, streamlines the process of tokenization and greatly improves its market efficiency.
The Future of Bond Tokenization
With the maturation of blockchain technology, bond tokenization is on the verge of being one of the pronouncements in the mainstream. It stands to become a principal pillar in the digital financial ecosystem because it cuts down costs, increases efficiency, and democratizes access. The financial institutions as well as regulators have to align to the challenges posed by this innovation and make the most of it for further potential.
Conclusion
Bond tokenization is a revolution in how bonds can be issued, traded, and managed. Bond tokenization using blockchain would result in more liquid, transparent, and accessible bond markets, seeing benefits for issuers and investors alike. This has a very promising range of applications from corporate bonds to green finance. As the industry experiences change after a wave of digitalization, this would change the frontier for better investment opportunities as well as revolutionize the capital markets.

Tatsuki Fujimoto: An Anomaly in Shonen
It’s no secret that within shonen anime/manga, female characters are often sidelined and or treated like plot devices to further the storylines of male characters. However, Chainsaw Man, written by Tasuki Fujimoto, takes a different approach to the way he handles and writes his female cast.
The women of Chainsaw Man not only defy traditional stereotypes but also have agency, development, relevance, and strength, as well as character arcs that center around furthering their own story’s instead of being dedicated to their male counterparts. An interesting way to see this is by juxtaposing how Fujimoto handles the two-boy, one-girl trio formation compared to how other mangaka handle it.
Often times in Shonen anime, the author will formulate a main trio of characters consisting of two boys and one girl: one main character, one deuteragonist, and one main heroine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The issue isn’t with the gender ratio of the trio itself; it’s with how mangaka handle the gender ratio in the trio. The MC and the deuteragonist often get numerous opportunities to hold plot relevance within the story, whether through strength or character writing, while the female characters are either sidelined or reduced to just being love interests. This is seen in Naruto with the way Sakura is diminished as a heroine and put at a heavy disadvantage in both writing and strength. We see it again in Jujutsu Kaisen with how both Nobara and Shoko are handled. Although they aren’t love interests, they are still either pushed to the side and made completely irrelevant (Shoko), resulting in the female character falling into the token girl trope, or fridged to further the storyline of their male counterparts (Nobara). Attack on Titan also faces a similar issue, despite the immense potential Mikasa had coming from a warrior bloodline and having an interesting backstory. She was ultimately reduced to being a simp with no agency or development outside of being a love interest.
Oftentimes, when authors of shonen manga create these types of trios, the women don’t get nearly as much time and effort put into the creation of their characters. They exist for the sole purpose of being a token, a love interest, or completely fridged.
However, Fujimoto subverts these common tropes and actively writes against them. This is evident in the main trio of the series.
Tumblr media
Power, the main female heroine of Chainsaw Man and the only girl within the main trio, isn’t a character that exists solely to push Denji and Aki forward. She’s also not a love interest or just there to be a token. She is her own person, her own character within the narrative of the story. She has agency, development, and a rich backstory that only further adds to the complexity of her character. Power gets a character arc that isn’t centered around Aki and Denji but one that centers around the deconstruction of the preconceived notions she has about humanity and the concept of human bonds and relationships.
What makes the main trio of Chainsaw Man so rich and fulfilling is the fact that Fujimoto understands the concept of balance. Denji, Aki, and Power are all separate individuals that exist within the narrative of the story for different reasons and purposes. They all have a unique backstory, wants, and needs that aren’t attached to one another, despite being a trio, because Fujimoto knows what character agency is, and he doesn’t negate that based on the fact that one of the characters in the trio is a woman.

[image ID: several cartoony diagrams and infographics of Melusines from the game Genshin Impact, but re-imagined as nudibranch-like creatures.
the first image is a diagram of a Melusine's basic anatomy. they're shaped like typical nudibranch sea slugs, with a mantle over top a muscular foot. the front half of the body is lifted up, with the rounded head facing forward. a couple of round, antennae-like rhinophores sprout from the head, with the text, "scent and water/air currents provide sense of spatial awareness." a mass of rounded, feathery gills sprout from the back end of the mantle, just above the foot. ocelli/eyespots sit on the head just in front of the rhinophores, with text reading, "wide range of color vision, poor depth perception." five sets of legs are situated underneath the body, with the foot partly hanging over the lower legs. these legs are much like caterpillar prolegs-- chunky and short, hydraulically powered, with cup-like suction grippers. the two front sets of legs are lifted up above the ground, with the lifted half of the body, and have slimmer grippers that look modified for grasping.
a doodle below shows the Melusine walking with all five sets of legs, with text reading, "'rippling' walking motion. they normally walk on just the lower 3 sets, but can use all 5 sets. usually reserved for running." another doodle shows the Melusine swimming flat in the water, with text reading, "legs pull up into body cavity when swimming. foot extends out farther and provides wavelike locomotion."
another doodle shows the Melusine slowly forming around a mechanical gear, with text reading, "Elynas goop clung to 'tokens' over time, leading to current forms."
the next image show a simple doodle of Melusine skin covered by a layer of Hydro particles, with oxygen molecules in the air gathering towards the Hydro. nearby text reads, "Hydro layers over the skin on land, protecting Melusines from desiccation and sun damage, and providing support to their soft bodies. Melusines can also pull oxygen and water from the air through the Hydro layer, breathing and retaining moisture as they would in water."
below that we see a human hand patting a Melusine on the head, with text reading, "the Hydro layer also provides some protection from physical damage. touching a Melusine, one would only feel the cool, smooth, somewhat rubbery surface of the moisture-wicking Hydro layer, rather than the truly moist, slimy skin of the Melusine. this layer can technically be broken, but it's difficult to break the molecular bonds outside of elemental damage."
below that is a doodle of a healthy Melusine on land in Fontaine, then that same Melusine on land anywhere else, laying on the ground dried up and dying. nearby text reads, "this semi-aquatic lifestyle is only possible in Fontaine's heavy Hydro concentration (arguably Watatsumi as well)."
the next image starts with text reading, "Melusines can change their color/patterns, and their language is based in complex color/pattern cues. each Melusine has developed unique color/pattern preference over time, so communication rules/cues vary widely between individuals. (though they've learned to telepathically communicate using common human languages, with Neuvillette's help)." a doodle below that shows two Melusine staring blankly at one another, with text reading, "having a heated argument (they've been completely silent and still for 10 minutes, but their patterns are rapidly shifting)."
a short comic sits below that, starting with text reading, "*early in Sigewinne's career*" Sigewinne-- a light blue Melusine with pink accents, wearing a white nurse's cap-- stands silent, staring into a box at her feet. Wriothesley the human stands nearby, thinking to himself, "Hm, Sigewinne hasn't moved in a while." grabbing Sigewinne's attention, Wriothesley says, "doin' alright there, Sigewinne?" Sigewinne flips through a yellow book with the title, "Human Expressions for Dummies" with a simplified Melusine mascot on the cover. then she turns back to Wriothesley to telepathically yell, "No, I'm not!!!" with angry eyebrows and a cartoonish pulsing vein on her head, created using color patterns on her face. Wriothesley simply replies, "Ah."
the next image shows many different Melusines, with text reading, "Wide variation in body, rhinophore, and gill shape." indeed, some Melusines are thin and tall, others are short and round, while others are stocky and squared-off. some have thin, upturned snouts, while others have short, stubby snouts, or blocky, drooping snouts. some of their rhinophores are thin and straight, or round and curved, or branch/antler-like, or have more pronounced nodes/ridges. some of their gills are bulbous and pointed, or thin and wavy, or feathery, or branch-like, and some Melusine even have extra gills higher up on their bodies. all of these Melusines have different colors and patterns, with text reading, "Melusines can be found in all colors across the spectrum (including colors humans can't see), but individuals usually prefer a few specific colors."
a doodle below shows off Sigewinne's present-day outfit. she's wearing a white nurse's cap tied to her head with a pink bow, on top of a grey wig with a bob cut and curling bangs. a white apron with blue hearts and pink ribbons is tied to her front, with a two-tier cut to allow her front legs to move freely. another white apron with pink and blue bows is tied across to her back, covering most of it. nearby text reads, "no concept of nudity, clothes are just fun accessories. wigs are both exotic accessories, and a way to show kinship with humans."
below that is text reading, "Melusines usually darken their tones outdoors, for extra sun protection." a nearby doodle shows a pale Melusine indoors, then that same Melusine outdoors, her colors visibly darker.
the final image is an edit of a meme, reading, "If a Melusine wore pants, would she wear them like this or like this?" above two drawings of the same Melusine. in the first, the Melusine is wearing jeans cut to fit around her three lower sets of legs and the bottom edge of the foot. in the second, she's wearing jeans cut to fit around the back end of her body and last set of legs, covering the back end of the foot and mantle, and cut around the gills.
end ID]
I swear I had no idea it was nudibranch day yesterday, this was just a happy coincidence LMAO
anyways, I hate how Melusines look in-game, so I decided to make them Actual Slugs b/c that's objectively cuter. obvious nudibranch base design, but I added in some planaria and caterpillar elements for the eyes and legs, respectively. it's a bit goofy, but I'm real happy with how it all turned out <3
also sorry if the Sigewinne comic isn't true to her early career, personality, or her relationship w/ Wrio. we haven't seen her much yet, and tbh I didn't rly care to look into her current lore all that deeply

Note
I have no intent to sound like I'm against the irl, but I wish Disventure Camp didn't cram queerness down our throats.
More than half of the relationships in this show are gay relationships, and they're the only relationships allowed to get any focus or screen time. The straight ships are either toxic or background.
It feels more like bait and pandering than anything else. Like they're just forcing queerness to windowdress and say how progressive they are. It's kind of icky to me.
Forgive me if I'm insensitive for this, but, I feel like your problem is the ships themselves, not that they're queer ships.
I TOO, do not like some of the queer ships in this show. But that's because I don't like those characters and/or I don't like how it's handled. But would never say 'I don't like it cause it's queer'. You are allowed to not like a same sex ship for the same reasons you are allowed to not like an opposite sex ship.
However, because we're so used to straight ships in media being crammed down our throats, even outside of Total Drama, we're also so used to the queer characters being token and announcing how queer they are because otherwise people (the audience) won't accept them.
Man/Woman has been the norm for so long because for so long, queer people have been straightwashed or discriminated in the real world, and not allowed to be themselves. The moment you reveal yourself as something that isn't straight, you are treated as less than a person.
And it was the same in media for a long time. Where any queer character is treated as a tool to be token. A last minute ship. A stereotype. Background characters. And/or promoting harmful stereotypes involving queer people.
So in this field, even though I don't like every gay ship in the show, I will openly defend the show having queer characters in it that are front and center.
I don't think you realize how IMPORTANT it is for a show to have this.
Now more than ever, now more relevant than when Disventure Camp initially came out. (Especially where I live, ever since the election, a lot of the feelings of queer people, including myself, have been invalidated by our non-queer peers who didn't see the issues)
There's a variety of queer characters, it's not just one ship, so very little could be called tokens. There's discussions of their queerness that feel very naturally woven in. And don't just feel like "Hi! I'm a gay character! Look at me! Don't you feel represented?"
Something I have to give DC credit for and a strength in their writing they have over TD. These discussions feel natural.
And ANOTHER plus: These characters are ACTUAL characters.
They are not treated any differently from any of the straight characters in terms of writing them as actual people. They're not just there to bloat screen time flexing how queer they are. They're actual characters with actual stories and have actual arcs and development.
Characters like Tom, Jake, Aiden, Ellie, Gabby, they're ALLOWED to be characters that have noteworthy FLAWS. They're allowed to do things wrong. They're allowed to have flaws in their own relationships. Most of which get worked on.
You might think this is a 'no shit', but often times, 'because we're scared of portraying queer people as problematic', you'll find these characters very often get idealized and treated as perfect and nothing flawed can happen in their relationships. This is not true. They're just human.
If these ships really were idealized as perfect, then the entire plot of AS wouldn't exist.
While I wish there was more of it, this also applies to Aiden being uncomfortable with expressing his trans identity at first. He hid it from everyone in Season 2 before he came out to James. It explains a lot about how cornered and outcasted he felt from everyone else. And it is a factor in his arc about finding faith and confidence in himself, and he's able to relate to Tom's scarring to his own surgeries to bond with him and understand him. But it's also not the end all be all for his identity as a CHARACTER. There are other factors outside of him being trans.
Hunter has a bit of a queer arc himself that I see no one talk about. In Season 2, he spends it not understanding his feelings, or how to handle both Tess and Ally falling for him. They could've done the cliche of him picking one over the other. But no. Because at the end of it, he realizes how much these girls mean to him, and thanks to Rosa's help, he realizes he is polyamorous. And that helps him come clean to the girls.
It's not a character being gay. But it's STILL a queer story. It's still a story of a character realizing their queer identity.
Him being in opposite sex relationships does not erase that.
Because through that, DC has also shown that some characters don't even have a full grasp of their identity. But that doesn't make them less of who they are.
(I may not like Trevor/Derek, but I guess these two also fit into this category)
Jake, Tom, Ellie, Gabby, have stories that are not about them realizing their identities or coming out. (Another trope with queer characters. Their stories are always about them coming out.) Because they already have a solid grasp of who their identities. Gabby being a lesbian has NOTHING to do with her being a delinquent, for example.
Jake and Tom in particular, (and probably the easiest example cause of how much focus they get), are NOT a perfect couple right away. And they make quite a number of mistakes in said relationship. Mostly because they are NOT perfect people, they hate themselves, and their lives are pretty messed up.
But I would NOT use the word 'toxic' to describe them at all.
Because 'toxic' implies that they're hopeless and should stay away from each other.
What matters is that they are both trying and putting in the effort to fix what got broken. Which they both are.
This isn't really a 'will they won't they', because they both already know that they love each other from Season 1. This is more of a 'if you want to love them you got to love yourself'. Cause all their issues boil down to 'I screwed up. I'm awful. They don't deserve me.' On both sides.
Which, from my experience, is VERY realistic.
You don't have to like it, you don't have to like them, but it is very real.
Their story DOES NOT CHANGE if this was a straight ship.
Total Drama also shoves ships down your throat. Something I have personally become numb to and just expect at this point. Both shows are guilty of this.
But I really don't like the idea of the moment a queer ship breathes on screen, everyone goes "OMG PANDERING!!!! THIS IS TERRIBLE!!!!"
Because what really is the difference at the end of the day?
Queer characters deserve to be treated as actual people and painted in a variety of lights like actual people do.
The fact that DC isn't afraid to do this and make them messy people is a plus to me in terms of progress.
And think of it this way: If everyone in this show was straight, if we just erased all queerness from the show entirely, what would be everyone's reactions?
Or, better yet, what would be everyone's reactions if queer characters were just erased from media or just treated as background? They probably wouldn't bat an eye because most people, more than you think, are not aware that queer people exist.
We in the community NEED stuff like this.
Hate the ships themselves, but don't hate that it's queer.
Straightwashing or denying them their actual identities just cause you don't like it, does so much more harm than you think it does.
Anyway, happy pride month! 🏳️‍🌈

Alright, let’s talk about Ken Wakui’s newest work
Negai no Astro
Or Astro Royal, whatever you prefer.
Tumblr media
I will be giving no blatant spoilers in this post, only speculations:)
Manga PV here; ITS SO GOOD!!!!
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯✦
Let’s get the obvious out of the way, Ken Wakui has a very distinct art style. And I love it! A lot of people are making fun of it (mostly on Twitter/X), and it’s really sad. I love his style, and character development.
I have high hopes for this manga, and want to paint a picture of what to expect for those who also want to get into it♡
Let’s start Character Designs
—our main-trio—
Tumblr media
We’re only one chapter in so far, so we’ve only met the main two boys, Terasu and Hibaru (left to right).
Terasu Yotsurugi - 12th Son
Loving Terasu’s take-no-shit personality so far. Simultaneously, he seems very kind and loyal to Hibaru’s ideals.
Terasu is giving Ryusei/Chifuyu lovechild.
Hibaru Yotsurugi - only Biological Son
I love Hibaru’s chivalrous/“old-fashion” ideology. He may seem ‘generic shonen protagonist’ right now, but i don’t care. I will appreciate him.
Hibaru is giving Mikey/Takemitchi lovechild.
Tumblr media
As for our blue eyes beauty over here, we have yet to see her yet. She seems very cute though.
She’s also giving lovechild vibes; Senju/Hina specifically…
—The Yotsurugi family—
There are 13 Siblings of the Yotsurugi family, whom has a history of being Yakuza.
12/13 Siblings are adopted.
So far, we only have designs for 11 siblings.
We do not know a lot of names thus far, WHICH I NEED BTW, so let’s go over what we do have, and my first impressions of them.
—Names going Left to Right per image
Tumblr media
Shio Yotsurugi - Eldest Son
He’s giving Timeskip!Taiju vibes. Anyone who says he looks like Ran…. I can’t see it. He’s too beefy- sorry.
I just know I’m not going to like this guy.
Has a lot of the people’s support, but not mine.
Probably thinks he’s going to make the family better when he’s really ruining it:(
Unnamed Glasses Guy - maybe 2nd Son?
Mmmmm no thoughts.
Token megane character—
Probably corrupt.
I hope he proves me wrong.
Tumblr media
Kou Yotsurugi - 11th Son
Middle child vibes
He will be deranged and misguided.
Probably “hates” Hibaru because he’s so much like their father, who I assume he respects, but doesn’t agree with.
He probably secretly admires them both though.
Unnamed Hottie - maybe 9th Son?
MINE. 👹👹👹 RAPID. FERAL. BARKBARKBARK—
Based on vibes alone, I lay claim. Awoogaawooga♡
I NEED NAMES, NOW WAKUI. NOW.
Who is he. Where was he. I must know.
also lowkey giving Angry’s blue-ogre vibes…
Didn’t appear in chapter 1 though so:( </3
Tumblr media
Unnamed ScarGuy - maybe 10th Son?
Eyes always closed, speaks with ♡ at the end of his sentences…
Seems charming. I mean, look at those eyelashes…♡
Wanna give him a kith.
I have a feeling he and Unnamed Hottie are biological brothers… not sure.
Wakui please, sir, just one chance—-
Unnamed BraidGuy - maybe 8th Son?
Mr. I’ll just stay in my lane. Respect.
Realistically, I think he’ll be my first/second favorite eye candy, depending on how these characters personalities/canons end up being explored.
I’m sorry I have a thing for men with long hair!
Cool earrings too lol
Seems neutral to who’s in charge.
Wakui, seriously, I CAN TAKE HIM—!!!
Tumblr media
BENKEI???? - maybe 5th Son?
Has lion-like eyes and sharp canines….big nose
My size kink is acting up—no, please nO—!
Okay but seriously. I’m not sure what to expect from him yet.
He seems honest, but I can see him getting power hungry:(
Handsome Lady - Maybe 3rd Daughter?
Cooler older sister vibes.
Awoogawooga
Please be a lesbian or at least bisexual—
Seems logical and cool. Probably doesn’t coddle innocence.
Tumblr media
Mr.BigNose - Maybe 4th son?
Uh-uh. No thanks. Not bc of his appearance, but bc his character is depicted as insufferable so far.
Probably sexist.
Probably too coward to admit it, but if things with the family bond start turning south, he’s the first one OUT.
Hehe I may have left this screenshot wide to show off the One Panel that shows Mr. Unnamed Hottie *twirls hair*
I mean seriously look at him I’m going to scream without the s
Story Direction and Expectations
I trust Wakui. The way he explores his stories is through character bonds and personal ideals.
This is one of the reasons why I grew so fond of Tokyo Revengers.
Plus… it’s Found-Family Gang activity. It’s my soft spot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I would say Yakuza but I want to be respectful in how I throw that word around, so I’ll avoid it for now if I can.
The supernatural powers that get involved will surely lead to a type of succession war between the siblings.
“What it means to be strong” will probably be the fundamental lesson of the story.
I am so excited to see how Negai no Astro will progress!
Please support Ken Wakui however you can by reading Chapter 1 onwards!♡
