Sae Niijima is such a good character it drives me insane a little. She's not a mother nor a maternal or doting older sister but instead a twenty four year old who was thrown into a position of responsibility that she never asked for. She loves Makoto just as much as she resents her and its so apparent every time they talk up until November. "Are you studying?" (I want you to do well) (I need you to get a job and stop making my life harder) "I'll use any method necessary to get this promotion" (Life will be easier for us) (So stop distracting me with your problems) "Focus on your future" (I know that you're capable) (I can't afford to waste my time on you, so stop wasting time on others)

Makoto is not only the sole reason she pushes as hard as she does for a promotion, for success, and the reason that she loses herself in her animosity over her fathers death, but also someone she can't stand for so long. Makoto was 14-15 when their father died. Sae was 21. As soon as she got the career she wanted and things started to look up, her stability was robbed from her and she was disillusioned with the system that her father had taught her to rely on and completely adhere to. How do you manage, the daughter of a cop, following his footsteps towards law enforcement, when you're suddenly reminded of how unfair it is? You can't quit, your little sister relies on you and she's so young and struggling just as badly with this grief. So you pick yourself up and you get moving again. You push harder, press further. You abandon your morals and your ethics because punishing criminals (guilty or not) is almost like punishing the man who killed your father.

And the whole time she's fighting for promotions, going for drinks with the SIU Director to make herself more favourable for promotions, trying to navigate being a woman in a competitive, suffocating, male-dominated field, falling behind despite doing so much where others are promoted for doing so little - all the while your little sister comes back from school and her biggest issues are so small compared to yours.

Persona 5 revolves so heavily around grief and loss and change and Sae embodies all of that so well, all of the sharp and unpleasant and jagged parts of grief.

Azula in Fandom

I really did love Azula. She's one of the most fascinating characters in ATLA: brilliant, terrifying, powerful, tragic, and deeply flawed. I loved that the show let her be complicated without ever pretending she wasn’t dangerous.

And I still love her, but honestly, some parts of the fandom have made it harder. Watching people erase her harm, excuse everything she did, or attack others for acknowledging her complexity doesn’t make her look better, it just makes real conversations about her impossible. Azula was compelling because she was broken, cruel, vulnerable, and human all at once.

Flattening her into a untouchable girlboss or a misunderstood victim that just wanted the best doesn't honor that story, it kinda cheapens it.

I’m still rooting for her character, and I always will be. But if I'm honest, it feels like my love for her has faded a little, not because of who she is, but because of how some of her fans behave (NOT ALL FANS, by no means all fans, but a loud enough *few* who excuse abuse, downplay harm, and treat disagreements about her online like I just killed their puppy in front of their eyes).

It's just kinda sad seeing something I cared about get twisted into something uglier  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm fully convinced that Feen wasn't a precious angel and was a massive brat in his own way. If he didn't get his favorite part in a play or if his artwork would get lambasted by a teacher he'd throw the most diva fit and insist how unfair the world is. He also most likely thought his peers were less talented than him and would freely butt in to critique their work only to cry foul if the same would be done to him. He was born petty.

On the right is an imagined scenario of him and Miles being study buddies. Everyone would have such a miserable time together <3.

fr tho im reading plutarch's alcibiades (internet archive classics my beloved) and the would be meet cute is hysterical to me idk why. was it love at first sight (and who could resist such ethereal beauty?) or was there any sort of doubt or disdain for his ways? and if so did she fall for him despite herself or was she willing to let all notions leave her in favour of devotion to her husband? did she care at all? did any of it matter when she was the wife of the most beautiful man ever?

so many feelings here. she loved him but how much of it was love for what was and not what she saw or chose to see? (i mean to say was it love or infatuation on her part). im well aware women had little if any choice and say in the matter and that they had pretty strict societally ordained frameworks to fit in, but like. them. what were they like.

did he see her as his wife (beyond property) and care for her to any degree or was it his image only that mattered? would a divorce lead to his name being potentially tarnished even in the slightest (ngl kind of doubt it would hes too pretty lol. but also misogyny. would anyone bat an eye?) did he fall out of love? was their any love to begin with?

did he at all abstain from seeking courtesans or did the marriage not get in the way of his previous life style? did he care that she was fed up and wanted to leave him (had anyone ever left him before?) and no longer worship the grounds he walked on (has that ever happened before?)

did he feel hurt? offended? did he care at all that a posession of his demanded freedom? was he upset? amused? did they talk about it? if he were to reconcile would she accept of her own will or be coerced? by him or herself regardless. did he humor her? did he laugh?

was there no further word on the matter when they reached their home? their bed? she was his until he saw fit, bound to him by marriage and maybe love still. was his choice to keep her born of ill will or affection? or even duty since she was the mother of their child. if the word held significance to him at all. was he a good and present father? i have no idea lol. assuming they had a kid i also dont know lol

I thought Anna was extremely interesting, but with the limited time we get in each season I still think Brad x david could’ve been actually built upon in a way that made sense. A friends with benefits not actually unrequited loved that’s never really resolved?
