When we were moving a load of boxes to our new house the other day (about a week ago), the mountains looked almost unreal, they were so picturesque. It was like they were paper cutouts.

My husband just took these through the windshield, as there wasn't a great place to pull off and get a view. But they capture things pretty well, honestly.

The wide shot gives the best impression of the color and scale.

After we got to the house, we went out back to have a look again, and Longs Peak was still really pretty, with Venus up in the sky above it.

We were lucky to get a place with this kind of view. When I look at it, it's kind of hard to believe it's 26 miles away — and nearly two miles higher than the house.

It's a bit of a dangerous hike, and I don't think we'll ever attempt it, but we want to (or at least I want to) at least hike up to where the boulderfield starts, and maybe even to the keyhole. We'll certainly at least go to Chasm Lake one of these days.

Anyways, yeah. I had to Google how many ships there were, what their names were, and if they even existed (peep Lilly back up there). Some of the ship names changed since last time I check (Leshley used to be something like Kennham or some shit like that) so clarification is always basically needed for me. I discovered it while searching for new things to do in my area. 🤩 Here’s what makes it so amazing... you drive for quite some time down narrow dirt roads and park in a wooded area. Then you get out and walk a very short distance where, all of a sudden, a vast area of rocks unfolds in front of you. The large flat area of 400 feet by 1,800 feet is filled with boulders and has an evergreen tree boarder. This little tree is the only real vegetation to be found among the field of boulders! It’s hard to grasp the adversity that this little tree overcame in order to sprout and grow all alone in there. 🌲🪨 You can carefully walk out into the field of boulders where some of them are as large as 26 feet long. Although I’ve lived in the Poconos for most of my life, I’ve never seen anything like this before! 🥰 I’ve found that the restrictions of COVID have really prompted me to explore my area more and I’ve been blessed to see things that I never knew were right next door. Two-hike Tuesday! First, Ringing Rocks (MOBBED with people, only half of whom wore masks around others 😡). We scrambled across the boulder field to avoid the germy humans (Brodie was faster than me) and hung out with the germy caterpillars instead. We prefer their germs these days. This little beast was most likely from the species Halysidota tessellaris, also known as the pale tiger moth, the banded tussock moth and the tessellated halisidota.
