So last month my brother bought me a wood burning tool for my birthday. "I didn't really know what to get you but then I saw this and it jumped right out at me."
I was excited because I always like trying new arts and craft mediums, and I never would have thought to get one for myself.
So I bought some scrap wood and some transfer paper and tested using it. I'm obviously still super green with the tool, but I decided for his wedding shower later in the month I wanted to make him and his fiancée a hand made gift with it.
I knew I wanted to do something silly and with cats, because they're both big Tabby fiends, having three of them currently, and as soon as I saw the bread box at the shop, I knew what I had to do.
They both loved it and my brothers reaction was priceless, "Their faces being little slices of bread is both cute and a little bit disturbing."
Mission accomplished.

Why Humid Weather Is a Problem for Spices & Grains
Monsoon or high-humidity climates create the perfect storm: moisture seeps into your storage containers, causing spices to clump, lose aroma, or even go moldy. Grains like rice, pulses, or flour can spoil faster, and jars may develop condensation that invites pests or fungus. This post explores how to safeguard your kitchen staples using the right tools and habits. Key high‑search‑volume keywords included: “protect spices from humidity,” “humid weather spice storage,” “grain storage humidity tips”.
2. Use Airtight Containers: Masala Box, Jars, Storage Bins
Masala Box: Traditional Indian spice tins are compact and convenient, but many low-cost versions are not airtight, allowing moisture ingress. Upgrade to a modern airtight masala box with silicone seals and tight-fitting lids to block humidity. Glass-based versions work best for visibility and non-reactivity.
Glass Jars & Storage Bins: Use high-quality glass jars with airtight lids or opaque food-grade plastic bins to store grains and dry goods. Glass is non-porous and resists moisture, especially when kept in cool, dry cabinets away from heat or sunlight .
3. Moisture Absorbers: Silica Gel Packs, Rice & Oxygen Absorbers
Silica Gel Packs: Place food‑safe silica gel packets inside masala boxes, jars, and storage bins to absorb excess humidity. Replace or regenerate them periodically (oven‑dry at ~200 °F for ~30 minutes) .
“I put a pack of silica in each spice jar … it really helps”
Rice Grains: A tried-and-tested DIY desiccant. Toss a small cloth-bag or a few grains wrapped in muslin into jars to help absorb moisture without direct contact with spices.
Oxygen Absorbers: For long‑term grain storage use food‑safe oxygen absorber packets. While they remove oxygen (not moisture), they help protect nutrients and prevent oxidation alongside the airtight environment.
4. Handling Habits: Dry Utensils, Avoid Steam, Rotate Stock
Always use dry clean spoons or dedicated scoops — never stick wet fingers or spoons into spice jars. Moisture introduction is a common culprit for spoilage.
Avoid shaking spices directly over steaming pots — steam can shoot into jars and cause immediate clumping. Instead, spoon into a small dish, then add to cooking.
Store spices and grains in a cool, dark cupboard — away from stovetops, sinks, or sunlight — to maintain stable conditions and prevent condensation.
Label jars with purchase or expiry dates, and use older stock first (FIFO method). Replace ground spices every 6–12 months for best flavor Food.
5. Featured Product Roles & Best Practices
✅ Masala Box
Ideal for everyday Indian spices such as turmeric, chili, cumin, etc. Use a modern, airtight sealed masala box — one that clicks shut or has rubber gasket sealing. Add a small silica gel pack or rice grain inside under the spice cups for built-in humidity control. Store away from heat and use clean spoons every time.
✅ Glass Jar
Great for storing powdered spices, grains, or flours. Choose wide-mouth jars with gasket seals. Before filling, ensure jars are thoroughly dry. Slip in a silica gel packet or a small cloth rice sachet. Store upright, and avoid movement or shocks that can loosen seals.
✅ Storage Bin
Use large airtight bins or food‑grade plastic storage bins to hold bulk grains (rice, pulses, flour). Layer bins with oxygen absorbers (for grains/beans) and silica gel or rice packets. Ideally keep in a cool pantry or countertop cabinet. Avoid direct sunlight or cabinets above stovetops.
✅ Dishtowel
A clean, dry dishtowel plays a big role too — use it to thoroughly dry jars, scoops, and surfaces before any food transfer. It also helps keep the storage area clean and moisture-free.
✅ Bread Box
Countertop bread box can double as a storage zone. Place your jars or packets inside the bread box (lined with a dry towel) along with silica gel packs. The bread box provides an enclosed micro-environment, reducing air exchange and exposure to humidity — especially helpful in damp kitchens.
Final Tips
Don’t overcrowd your masala boxes or jars — leave some headspace for airflow.
Regenerate silica gel packs every few months: microwave or bake to dry.
Rotate and consume spices quickly in humid weather — smaller quantities more often.
Avoid refrigeration unless dealing with large bulk flour; temperature changes may cause condensation.
Inspect storage regularly — look for clumps, discoloration, or off smells and replace if spoiled.
By combining airtight Masala Boxes, jars, storage bins, and moisture‑absorbing solutions like silica gel, rice, or oxygen absorbers, plus good kitchen habits and the occasional assist of a dishtowel or bread box, you can effectively protect your spices and grains during humid seasons. These strategies not only prevent spoilage but preserve flavor, aroma, and the culinary integrity of your ingredients.

Seems Devil Bread has been allowed in as a sort of Co-host. The Halloween Night seems to be fading away, but the mood of spooks and having fun is still very much alive.
