22.06.2020 // korean revision
i found an opinion column in a newspaper that i really like! the column is called 2030 세상보기 (Looking at the world in 2030) and it’s a column where youth or young adults write about their perspectives of society. It’s a collection of opinion pieces that covers a diverse range of topics. Today, I read a piece titled “Where does courage come from?” and it was really beautifully written. Personally, I found myself being able to relate to a lot of what was written. Maybe i’ll try translating parts of it in future when I have the time. In the meantime, you can check the article out in the source link!

15.06.2020 // korean revision
today i’m revisiting the korean news articles that i was studying in february. i was trying to expand my vocabulary through reading news articles in korean so that i can converse about current affairs some day. this was back when the coronavirus just started spreading out of China and Asian countries were impacted the most back then. it was (and still is) something that has greatly affected our lives and i want to be able to talk about it with my korean friends so looked up some articles on naver, wrote out the entire article and picked out words that i didn’t know.
i still have one article for which i have not organised the words that i don’t know and i’ll be doing that now. i know it’s been four months hahahaha, but i was really busy with my final year thesis until recently.
i think reading news articles is a really good way of practicing and expanding your vocabulary for your target language once you’re at a more advanced level!

2020.07.05 // korean revision - yonsei academic korean Intermediate I
I bought this book two years back when I was on student exchange at Yonsei University, but I obviously have not touched it....the same can be said with many of my other language books hahahaha. I did a quick scan of the content pages and I think I’ve covered most of the grammar and vocabulary in this book, but I thought it would be a great revision since it’s been a while since I officially took classes. I kind of forgot most of my grammar - it comes kind of naturally to me now, but sometimes when I have to figure out how to use a certain structure with a new word that i’ve learnt, i realised that i don’t remember the exact grammar rules anymore...
i think that’s what it means to learn a language and it’s perfectly normal, but i bought the book and lugged it back in my 30kg suitcase so i shall try to make the most out of it hahaha

27.07.2020 // lazy afternoon in a laid-back neighbourhood
after months of lockdown, restrictions are finally easing up and more businesses are reopening.
it’s been a while since i last sat at a cafe to do my own work - not recommended, i’m only here bc i have an appointment nearby and have an hour to kill. please stay home and stay safe~
on some days, i’ll think back and realise what a crazy time it is to be alive....at the start of the year, i wouldn’t have expected our lifestyles to change this much....but we can only make do with what we’ve got, and make our best decisions accordingly

9.7.2020 // japanese revision
today, i’m spending some time to revise my n3 syllabus. even though i passed the n3 exam in 2018, i have no idea how i did it because i just remember rushing through the syllabus two weeks before the exam as I didn’t have time to do so during the school term. i want to properly learn what was covered in n3 first before moving onto n2! i’m also planning on using the language more often so i might start using hellotalk again.
how about you? what are your learning goals recently?

18.06.2020 // korean revision
i’m finally done with my goal today....this was quite tough to get through because it’s about politics and there’s a lot of words that i’ve not seen before. i should try doing a fun article someday hahahaha
intially, i wanted to get this done within an hour, but ended up getting so distracted with other work. then my friends called me at around 4pm and we played call of duty for almost two hours 🤦🏻‍♀️ i always want to be one of those really productive people, but in actual fact, i’m so far from it.... i really should work harder on this hahahaha

11.06.2020 // my duolingo set-up
i’m currently learning spanish via duolingo. honestly, i had doubts about using it as a language resource, but surprisingly, it’s has been really helpful! it doesn’t explicitly tell you the grammar rules, but after a while, you kind of get what’s going on. their spanish course is really extensive and they even have short stories that incorporate what you’ve learnt from the practices and i think it makes it even more enjoyable when you slowly realise that you can understand conversations in another language! Duolingo’s courses for Japanese and Korean does not seem to be as extensive though - I checked them out for a while because I was curious.
So, this is usually my set-up when I set aside time at home to do my duolingo sessions. I would open up my word bank on Notion, in case I need to add new entries or edit existing ones. I would also have SpanishDict open for reference. Though Duolingo is a language app for convenience, but if used well, I think it can still be a valuable language learning resource.
However, I don’t think this should be my sole language resource for a language, but I currently don’t have time to invest in Spanish, so this shall do for now. I’m thinking of watching Money Heist (la casa de papel) with English and Spanish subtitles and I’ll update again with my progress!
* so far this tumblr has been great in motivating me to practice my languages more! hopefully i’ll see some progress in all three languages in a year

18.06.2020 // korean revision
i’ve decided to revise and start on a new article today. i’m currently searching for an article that i’m interested in and of a decent length. some of you have asked me where I get my news articles from and i just get them from naver.com! alternatively, i listen to korean news on youtube - channels like sbs news and ytn news- and they often have links to the article in the description box.
hopefully i can update with my progress again in about an hour’s time!

I will start posting language-related content next week (hopefully!). I’m trying to finish up this free digital marketing course by Google Digital Garage by this week. The content is split into many short videos and it’s really easy to follow! It’s my first time learning about digital marketing but I’m having a lot of fun with it. Currently, I’m taking notes using the Notion app (anyone else? 🙋🏻‍♀️) and I’m so glad that the Notion team has recently allowed users on the free plan to have unlimited blocks. It’s a really great note-taking app that has many cool features - maybe I’ll talk about it in an upcoming post - and you should really check it out if you haven’t!
