I've been thinking about the "humans" of the Mario series

Toadette with the Super Crown turning into Peachette, as well as the fact that this is something that only works with Toadette rather than being able to turn just anyone into a hot girl, implies to me that Peach may be a Toad who has undergone a similar transformation (which would make sense with her full name being Princess Toadstool and being part of the Mushroom Royal Family and all that)

Mario and Luigi are stated to be humans from New York City

New Donkers from Mario Odyssey are treated within the narrative as a "race" of their own, like the Volbonans, but they clearly resemble a realistic human, but much taller than Mario. Possibly an evolutionary offshoot with Gigantopithecus-esque gigantism? Or are they "typical" sized, and Mario and Luigi are from a lineage with Homo floresiensis-esque dwarfism?

Wario and Waluigi aren't on a New Donker level of different design, but they don't look quite like Mario and Luigi either. They have multiple individual square teeth, while Mario and Luigi have that cartoony single toothy strip. Plus they have the blue circles around their eyes and the bright pink noses. (actually, their facial coloration kind of resembles that of a mandrill, oddly enough)

Princess Daisy looks close enough to Princess Peach that I want to say they're the same species, but there's nothing in the text to support that. To my knowledge, they aren't related, and there aren't any Toads living in Sarasaland.

No you're right, the file naming system helped a great deal in terms of being able to verify ages and certain events on the timeline (even some minor characters like Ushio have them, which is neat). Because like, Hoshino does specify in-game that Arakawa was 14 when he killed Toshio, but without a year that's not exactly helpful...

You normally have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to figure out Arakawa's age, to the point the only official profile that listed his age was wrong, so it was a HUGE find to have those straightforward numbers at the time (even if they aren't 100% accurate; Jo probably shouldn't be 21 with how Yokoyama says he ages his characters by year without setting birth dates, and Arakawa's 25 model is used for more scenes where he's not 25, But You Know).

#whats interesting is that arakawa's 90's-2000 model doesnt have an age attached to it. dont ask a woman her age ig idk <- this killed me but it also reminds me they did this unironically with Saeko

Actually wait forget the entire rest of this ask I wanna talk about what was going on with these profiles... they were SoA exclusives... but like girl... wrong age (he's 62 not 63)... favorite food is To Be Fair Something He Talks About LIKE It's His Favorite but is still a dish he's only had once in his lifetime... no hobbies or special abilities... trying to sassily sidestep not knowing Saeko's age... inability to decide whether to present alcoholism as a hobby or favorite food... Seeing all these post-movie scenarios about how deep Mario and Luigi’s trauma could go, I’m surprised they (especially Luigi) would even want to return to the Mushroom Kingdom, let alone eventually live in it, after everything they went through. If I gone through what they had, I would never want to set foot through the pipe again.

As much as I love that the fandom collectively agreed that Mario and Luigi were deeply traumatized by the adventure (rightly so), I think Mario ultimately fell in love with the world and Princess Peach despite everything.

He was clearly awestruck from the moment he stepped foot into The Mushroom Kingdom, and by the end he was engaging a sentient nuke in a dog fight to save it despite the fact that Luigi was safe and out of the blast zone at that time. He got attached.

Luigi, for all he went through, has no negative experiences connected to The Mushroom Kingdom. His entire "adventure" took place either in The Darklands or on Bowser's floating fortress. I don't think he even set foot in The Mushroom Kingdom until the very end of the film. And of course, wherever his brother is happy, he's happy.

As for the warp pipe... I think there's a reason why at the end of the movie, Luigi waited for Mario to jump in the pipe ahead of him and stayed as close as possible when he jumped in after.

There might be a bit of anxiety there, but they're pressing through it.
