hi all yesterday i made a self-hostable tumblr blocker that blocks anyone who liked a list of specifiable posts

how it works:

first, you have to register an app at https://www.tumblr.com/oauth/apps for access to the tumblr api

then, to be able to obtain access tokens for your blog, it sets up two endpoints at <hosted ip:port>/authorize and <hosted ip:port>/callback- the former will show you a link to authorize the above app to your blog, and the latter receives the resulting access tokens

tumblockr then uses the tumblr api to obtain a list of people who have liked each of the posts specified in the .env file, and adds them to a queue for processing (blocking). both obtaining likers & blocking operate on a periodic schedule, also configurable in the .env

in the event that it runs up against tumblrs api rate limits, the queue/list of blocked users/various tokens and such are kept in storage so that operation can resume an hour later (that is, after the hourly rate limit expires)

all you need is a docker-capable device with a public facing ip (like a vps or some other cloud computing solution, ideally, but a personal desktop will do in a pinch as long as you dont keep it exposed)

Love your thought so VelKleya. How do you imagine they deal with talking about Cinta? Kleya was surely aware of their relationship but perhaps not the depth of their love until she arrives at Yavin?

Thank you so much! It's definitely a long and complex process because Vel isn't just grieving Cinta's death, that grief is attached to a massive sense of guilt because she feels responsible for Cinta's death, so even just entertaining the possibility of moving on and falling in love again is overwhelming, because from her perspective, if she did, she'd be letting go of Cinta and she thinks she doesn't have the right to do it.

Add to all that the complexity of falling in love with Kleya out of all people, who was Luthen's right-hand partner (and we now know actually was not just equal to him, but often calling the shots) . Luthen kept Vel and Cinta apart, treated the fact they loved each other as a liability, he didn't tell Vel that Cinta hurt herself badly in the year they were apart. And most importantly, he sent them both on the Ghorman mission that cost Cinta her life. A mission that he'd originally given to Cassian but that he refused because it was too risky. Luthen and Kleya didn't think twice about sending Vel and Cinta as replacement, just swapped one asset for another, like they weren't human beings. There is all that to deal with when Vel looks at Kleya, when she realizes she is developing feelings for her.

And yes, Kleya was definitely aware they were in love because Cinta tells Vel that Luthen thinks they are worth more separately than together. Vel and Cinta's relationship was definitely something Luthen and Kleya discussed across the years, especially because (in s1 in particular) Vel wasn't shy about asking about Cinta and revealing how much she cared about her. Luthen and Kleya absolutely talked about that relationship and whether it was a liability or something to exploit, much like Luthen did with Bix and Cassian. And it's awful. It's a ruthless, dehumanizing way of looking at people, and Kleya is as guilty of that as Luthen - if not more. The empathy Luthen showed Bix in the safe house? I doubt Kleya would have been as gentle.

Plus, after Cinta died, Vel cut off all contacts with Luthen's network, so when she had to tell them about Cinta's death, there is no way her love and grief didn't spill out.

So, to go back to your question, it's a long and uncomfortable process for both of them. Vel has to forgive herself and realize that she is allowed to love again, and just because she chooses to open her heart again, it doesn't mean she is forgetting or erasing Cinta. Kleya has to face the consequences of the way she and Luthen treated people, the pain they caused, even if it was in service of a bigger Cause. And probably for the first time in her life, she wants to apologize to someone.

Also!! What makes everything even more complex is that Cinta is a ghost for Vel as much as she is for Kleya. Her presence hovers over the entire relationship. The same way Vel struggles to let her go, Kleya most definitely struggles with the fear that she will never live up to what Cinta was for Vel, she will only ever be a replacement. She is someone who has never romantically loved anyone before, never had a relationship, and being emotionally vulnerable terrifies her. She would definitely have some insecurities about Vel never being able to love her the way she loves Vel.

As for the way they deal with it more specifically, I'm writing a fic about them so I have that in mind, and since it's me, it's veeeery messy lol. But even beyond what I personally am writing, I do believe it's not something they can move past with one conversation. Vel loved Cinta immensely, and whatever chance they may have had at a future was cut short. That isn't going anywhere. For Vel and Kleya to work, they have to face all the things that hurt and scare them.

“wont you stay with me for the night?” a meaningless, empty promise for me, and a relevation for you.

the first thing i say while describing lair is that she’s a slut. because she is! not in a degrading sense i mean it literally, she’s a slut. her prostitution fame is known, and the townsfolk call her venus. she takes pride in her reputation, and she takes pride in her fame both negative and positive. to her it means that she's irresistible.

lair has a bratty, defiant personality. boy does she have a MOUTH on her.. can make anyone of any status or age wince with her words. but she’s not a mean person! shes not boundlessly kind like care is but she is still quite nice to people she likes. like the orphans, shes always willing to help them out. though she’ll huff and say “finneeee” as if its this big hassle for her when really she's always glad to help. people generally like her because they think she's someone who's always straightforward and candid (which is true) but when it comes to her own feelings she can be a little dishonest with herself.

as soon as lair turned 18 she immediately went to bailey and asked her for independent freedom. not just because she was tired of being inside all the time or because she was sick of being monitered all the time, but because she wanted to stop feeling so ... weak? thats not the right word, its more like... she hated feeling like she hasn't really done anything for herself, and that feeling really bothered her. with independence can come that oh so satisfying feeling of fulfillment. something that you feel only when you yourself achieve something. that's one of the feelings she loves the most. it makes her feel like she's really worth something. while she greatly appreciates bailey's protection she doesn't really miss being in her care.

shes also a thief with and S skullduggery skill but that isnt very important right now. her relation with sex and sex work is something thats too complex to fit into this one post so it will have to wait for another time, but as a little teaser its a major major part of her story. while she loves it first it distorts and warps into something that brings her nothing but misery.

elaborating more on her personality though, it comes with being bratty but shes also really cheeky. lovess teasing her friends and kylar but not in a mean way. shes also quite the pervert. likes to grope randomly and be grouped. likes to flip skirts and pinch butts. if your not wearing a bra know damn well your nipples are getting pinch no matter the size. oh and shes lactating and has the milk enthusiast trait. didnt know where to put that but it important to know.

Maybe it's just my need to feel wanted and protected and cared for but I cannot stop thinking about Eclair, who is so used to being everyone else's knight, being protected and looked out for by those closest to her. features:

post watching: you can enter posts to watch, and tumblockr (while running) will watch for and block all new likes on those posts

import blocks: you can add blocks to your account from either a text file or from another blog (that you can log into, of course)

requirements:

set up an oauth app here (as instructed in the readme): https://www.tumblr.com/oauth/apps

notes:

you have to keep the program running for the blocks to go through. this is because the tumblr api has a rate limit, so instead of blocking everything all at once tumblockr queues up blocks to be processed hourly until the rate limit is reached

windows will likely flag the executable as malware, as it tends to do for most pyinstaller-based programs. you can either just whitelist the program or (if you dont trust it) build it yourself from source.

Testing out my new extra-large watercolor paper by tracing some Hellboy pages. It turns out that rough grain paper is probably the worst paper for this art style, but hey at least I'm learning! Now I just gotta finish the other 2/3 of the page so I can see how this stuff handles paint. the fact that only one of my mice has gotten a cancerous tumor (the only other one being a benign tumor that is genetic) out of twenty is proof to me that feeding rodents sunflower and corn is a recipe for cancer.

aflatoxin is a KNOWN carcinogen so i dont know why it would be controversial to say STOP FEEDING THEM THESE FATTY FILLERS!!! it's literally killing your animals.

for those who dont know, aflatoxin is a byproduct of mold found growing on corn and sunflower seeds. in humans it is carcinogenic.

mice and rodents are far more susceptible to developing cancer in their lives, so piling even more carcinogens on top of that genetic component??

it's no wonder most owners report that all or most of their animals die from tumors and cancer.

most of my mice have died from heart problems and old age. their bodies simply shutting down. again, only ONE of my mice has developed cancer. and my oldest girls are about to turn 2 in august and september... with no sign of cancer (knock on wood) or any tumors. theyre also showing no signs of slowing down.

to me thats all the evidence i need.

Sometimes I wish there was a counter showing how many people I followed, they soft blocked me, some time passed and I followed them again cause I legit forgot I previously had. I certainly do NOT want a list of those people, but I think it would be fun to know how many times it has happened so I can judge my own forgetful brain.
