I’ve seen a lot of conversation about Anakin Skywalker and grooming and whether if someone just did something differently would Anakin have fallen. And they’ve sparked a thought of my own that I haven’t been able to put into words.
Which is that regardless of whether it would have changed anything I believe that the Jedi Order failed in their duty of care to Anakin.
Firstly, I believe that the second Qui-Gon, being a Jedi Master on a mission as a representative of the Jedi Order, takes Anakin from his mother the Order has a duty of care to Anakin. Like if Qui-Gon had taken Anakin and immediately gotten into a speeder crash that was his fault and killed them both I think the Jedi would have been liable in a wrongful death suit. Qui-Gon may have been acting outside of his mandate but I don’t believe that changes that the Order bears some responsibility for his actions. Being a Jedi Master gives him a level of authority and if he abused that authority or uses it for actions outside his mandate then the Order is responsible for responding appropriately.
When the Council decides he shouldn’t be trained the next steps should not have been letting Qui-Gon take him into an actual war zone. Whether they’re training him or not he’s a child and until they’ve made other arrangements they are responsible for his care. If Anakin had died on Naboo it would have been due to the negligence of the Order.
The responsible choice would have been to find Anakin a place to stay in the temple until arrangements could be made for him to either be returned to his mother or entrusted to a guardian. In either case it would be the responsibility of the Jedi to ensure to the best of their knowledge and ability that Anakin was being placed in a safe and stable environment. A member of their order took Anakin from one home, if they do not care for him they cannot just wash their hands of him without doing their due diligence.
Secondly, once Anakin is a member of the Order it is the responsibility of the Order to ensure that children in their care are safe. That is the responsibility of any person or organization with guardianship of children. And I cannot fathom a world in which it is responsible to allow an adult outside the order, who has taken a special interest in a specific child, to have enough access to that child to be considered the child’s friend. The only legitimate interest Palpatine could possibly have in Anakin is in his role liberating Naboo (a thing he shouldn’t have been involved in anyway) and that’s certainly not enough. And frankly even if Palpatine was interacting with Anakin under supervision it clearly wasn’t enough. Even later, they shouldn’t be sending a nineteen year old to have solo meetings with the Chancellor. Especially if the Chancellor has taken interest in that nineteen year old.
And before anyone argued that Palpatine made them… I don’t care. If they suspected Palpatine’s interest in Anakin was anything less than pure (and they should have because aging politicians have no legitimate reason to be getting close with random children) then they should have been fighting tooth and nail every step of the way. And the fact that they send him into the viper’s den more than once suggests they aren’t making that effort.
If Palpatine was abusing Anakin in ways other than emotional and arguably spiritual then would you still say the Jedi had to let Palpatine have access to him? Because what he does to Anakin is arguably worse in some ways given how it turns out.
Thirdly, Anakin returns from fighting in the outer rim, is ordered to begin spying on the Chancellor (who the Jedi Order allowed him to have enough contact with in his childhood to consider him a friend), and then shows the signs of struggling emotionally. They do not push him on this, Yoda asks him about it and gives very surface level advice. And then they allow the armed and very powerful veteran of a large scale interplanetary conflict to continue his spying mission and go on his merry way.
This is not to say I think Anakin’s fall is anyone’s fault but Palpatine’s and Anakin’s. But Anakin is coming out of a psychologically damaging environment and being put into an extremely difficult position emotionally by being asked to spy on Palpatine. He’s already emotionally volatile and he is extremely well trained, armed at all times, and capable of being extremely dangerous. As is any Jedi. And given those factors I think not pushing when he appears less stable than usual and potentially not forcing medical intervention is negligence.
This is also not to say that the Jedi somehow brought their fate onto themselves. The destruction of the Jedi Order is Palpatine’s doing and very little they could do outside of successfully killing him would have prevented it by the time it came to pass. Anakin’s involvement in it is also not ultimately the fault of the Jedi Order. But that doesn’t mean that they didn’t fail Anakin.
It might not have changed anything. It doesn’t mean that they are responsible for Anakin’s actions once he swears his allegiance to Palpatine. It doesn’t mean the Jedi are bad as a whole. Or even that any of them are bad people. But I do think they had a duty of care. And I do think they fell short.
And now I kind of want to write a fic where Padme successfully finds and frees Shmi and brings her to Naboo and Shmi sues the fuck out of the Jedi Order for the way Qui-Gon went about acquiring her son. And for allowing him to go with Qui-Gon to Naboo.

I'm genuinely so fed up of seeing the shifttok discourse on tumblr - yes it's important to correct misinformation but also, if we fill up shifting tags WITH the complaints of shiftokers coming over here, then where can we find the correct information???
Isn't it just better to post the correct shifting information rather than 'shiftokers are so bad'??? And explain why certain concepts are wrong???

The 2005 Pride and Prejudice/JJK crossover that no one asked for:
Nanami helps you up after you’re thrown to the ground during a fight. When you thank him he turns away without saying anything, but you see his fingers flex just for a moment. Bonus points if his tie is wrapped around his hand.

kitty!gaspard/xavier. teen and up. no other warnings
a deep rumble woke xavier up. he blinked blearily, rubbing at his face. the entire bed was vibrating slightly, which was not how he fell asleep. his pillow was soft against his face and a weight was against him. the bed was warm, the duvet pulled tight around him while gaspard had curled into him. the duvet were barely across gaspard, while his hand clutched at xavier’s wrist.
xavier turned around, laying on his back. gaspard were sleeping on his side, purrs rumbling through him. his hand moved from xavier’s wrist, to rest against his chest. gaspard often did this, likening feeling xavier’s heartbeat to his own purring. one fluffy ear was squished against the white pillow, while his tail tickled against xavier’s bare leg.
xavier dragged his hand along the other’s curls and along a soft ear. a sweet smile curled up on gaspard’s face, splitting his dark beard into a pink half moon. his tail curled around xavier’s ankle, while his hand began kneading into xavier’s chest. nails stung slightly into his skin, but the familiarity of it was too sweet to ignore. “gaspard…” xavier whispered, before leaning forward to press a kiss against his nose, to see it crinkle, and then his lips.
when he leaned back, hazel eyes peered back at him. gaspard yawned slightly, stretching in that peculiar, cat-like way, before cupping xavier’s face and pressing another, much more bruising kiss against xavier’s lips. he got yanked closer to gaspard, his hand dropping against gaspard’s chest. his fingers curled into his chest hair, feeling the vibrations of his purring only get deeper and more rumbling.
gaspard fell backwards onto the bed, his curls spreading out like a halo around his head, while blinking slowly at xavier. his pupils were blown out, the black swallowing the brown-green of his iris, while his pink tongue darted to lick his bottom lip. xavier smiled, glancing down to watch where he was petting. his hands ghosted over pale white skin with dark patches of hair, his nails scratching against his skin.
gaspard went boneless against the bed. his arms spread out, his hands began kneading into the duvet and mattress. he was so warm underneath xavier’s hands, the heat from sleeping underneath the duvet and in the sun bleeding through him. xavier continued smoothing his hands through his happy trail, switching between using his fingers and his nails. gaspard grunted, blood rushing downstairs. the nails against his stomach were feeling like xavier was scratching against his spine and brain, heady heat spreading through him.
xavier pressed a couple kisses to his stomach, lips tickled by his body hair. he continued kneading his stomach, sitting up and smiling at gaspard. gaspard once again blinked at him, brushing his knuckles against xavier’s high cheekbone. “come here,” gaspard whispered, voice rough from sleep and his continuous purring. xavier crawled closer, endearing, warm smile painting him as so in love, before leaning on his elbows to prepper more kisses across his bearded face.
“hey! hey now,” gaspard grumbled. xavier smirked, chuckling quietly, before the other grabbed his face and pressed their lips together. sighing into the other’s mouth, xavier moved to cup the back of his head and braiding his fingers into the curly hair. gaspard purred into the other’s mouth, before nipping at his bottom lip.
xavier broke off the kiss to press a finger against the other’s mouth, frowning slightly as he furrowed his eyebrows. “your teeth are too sharp for that.” he stated, before rubbing his bitten lip. gaspard opened his eyes lazily, before pressing a soft kiss to xavier’s fingertip.
“awh, i’m sorry, baby.” gaspard whispered, before opening his arms. xavier tucked himself against his chest, resting his ear against the other’s chest to hear the way gaspard was purring like an engine. it was comforting, yes, but also intoxicating. like the undeniable purr of a car engine. gaspard glanced down at him, feeling the love pour out of his every pore and his very being. kneading gently into his back, he leaned down to press a kiss to the crown of his forehead. “i love you,” he whispered quietly, primarily into the jet black hair brushing along his beard.
“i love you too, kitty,” xavier said and dragged his hand along his stomach. gaspard grumbled at the nickname, forever a thorn in his side. but the affection was smoothing over the emotions, making him feel like he was floating and dizzyingly in love with the other. until he fell asleep from it, of course.

Wish Rewrite
A long time ago, people would make wishes to the stars. Those pure of hearts, those who wished with all their might, got their wish granted one way or another. The wishings stars were the brightest in the sky, their magic great and powerful, above all, pure.
Sadly one day,the wishing stars disappeared. People felt sad and distraught at the stars’ absence. It was then that someone stepped up,Magnífico. He showed he possessed magic, something that amazed those around him,he said he learned the magic of granting wishes, and thus helped the people.
It's been a century since wishing stars disappeared. But with King Magnífico and his wife Queen Amaya, the now Kingdom of Rosas flourishes and lives in peace,as once a year a lucky citizen shall be chosen to be granted one wish. Only one.
We start our story with Asha. Asha is a girl from Rosas, her beloved home (insert introductory song around here). She’s turning 18-years-old and ever since she was a little girl she knew exactly what she wanted to wish for,to learn the magic of wishes to help out her fellow townspeople. She’s excited as she has big dreams of all she could do once obtaining the magic King Magnifico and Queen Amaya possess, and she is very eager to learn. She’s been told to wish for something else,as she only has one wish, but she declines every time, determined to help out her town however she can.
As the Festival of Wishes starts,Asha watches in awe as the lucky citizen is chosen. A young man who wishes to be a knight, and he has it granted. While slightly disappointed she wasn’t chosen,Asha decides that maybe she could convince Magnifico to take her under his wing anyway. She’s declined,no matter how much she explains, she’s told no. Until, for a moment, the King snaps at her that only him and his wife have any right to use this magic. Asha looks in surprise and fear as she never thought the King could get this angry…
He quickly composes himself, apologizes, says it is simply a very ancient thing not everyone can learn… And asks her to leave. Queen Amaya herself escorts Asha out, echoing her husband’s explanation as she then waves Asha goodbye.
Of course,Asha feels something isn’t adding up. Late at night she walks outside of the kingdom, running towards a hill and climbing a tree all the way up (insert obligatory princess I Want song here) it is then that she sees a star brighter than the rest. Could it be? Is it what she's gotten described before? She’s never seen one though… Doesn’t hurt to give it a shot, right? Asha closes her eyes, and starts to hum (When You Wish Upon a Star) and then she makes her wish: “I want to help”
A golden light shoots from up in the sky, landing right where Asha is,startling her and confusing her. And this is how we meet Star. Star is ecstatic, not reading the room at all, talking to himself about how he can’t believe that after a whole century someone finally finally made a wish to a star again. He presents himself to Asha, saying that stars usually don’t do this kind of thing but he was way too excited to not meet the one person who made a wish after being ignored and feeling lonely for so long.
Asha is of course confused, and even a little scared. Star notices her discomfort and reassures her it is all fine,he is a wishing star after all,and he’ll be damned if he doesn’t grant her wish (insert wishing star’s theme song here) with a little magic show he explains how wishes work,Asha mentions in passing how she thought the stars were gone and that’s why the King and Queen learned the magic of wishes,Star laughs incredulous saying how humans only possess wishes as stars are the only beings with magic powerful enough to grant them,he mentions back how he’s the only star left as one day the other stars he knew pretty much vanished out of nowhere.
… The dots start to slowly connect.
Meanwhile the magic show and the whole coming down from the sky itself thing isn’t missed by Magnifico and Amaya. They know what it is,there’s a wishing star left… They cannot afford that. They must obtain that star and not let anyone know about it,or else what they’ve worked so hard to obtain will slip like sand right through their fingers. Turns out,the King and Queen are much older than people believe, having stolen the wishing stars from the sky and the first thing they did once they figured out how to obtain the magic was wish for eternal youth, since then they’ve been draining the magic from stars to have control over the wishes. With a star still out there, the whole plan is at risk.
Here we got various shenanigans. As Star doesn’t have much of an idea on how to act human, and Asha begins to worry as she can notice quickly Star is in danger. Among their shenanigans their relationship starts to build, and chemistry begins to form slowly but surely. Reaching the point of caring about one another genuinely, paralleled with the King and Queen growing desperate to aid each other to not lose their power. (insert both love song duet and villain song around here, maybe one after the other for impact).
In the end they get their hands on Asha, threatening her. Star offers himself in exchange of letting Asha go,something Magnifico and Amaya do since they believe Asha to be powerless once they have the last wishing star in their grasp. Possibly, just for extra dramatics, they drain his magic right in front of Asha just to hurt her, meanwhile Star tells her to please go away and forget about him.
Of course that can’t be all. She tells the townspeople what’s going on. She successfully convinces them to see the truth of what the King and Queen have been truly going, and so it starts a revolution to free the wishing stars (insert another song here of course). Details are slightly blurry, but the basics are that Asha reunites with a weakened, one could say almost dying,Star. The pureness of her heart as she kisses him returning his strength, and the genuine desire to help slowly revitalizing all the other trapped wishing stars,Magnifico and Amaya losing their power, and then inevitably receive consequences for their actions.
The stars go back to the sky,all minus one,Star. Asha tells him his place is up there, granting wishes to those who have earned it. He responds that he has a wish of his own,and that is to be with her, asking her if she’d grant it to him. Of course,Asha says yes.
We could say Asha is a princess as now she’s magical in a sense and well the Kingdom of Rosas needs a ruler I suppose.
And that is my Wish rewrite. It isn’t perfect I know, and you can tell how I have some details less figured out than others, but I feel like this concept really could’ve worked, especially what we’ve seen done in the artworks. I grew up with Disney and I simply believe their 100th Anniversary deserved so much better, and well, this rewrite will be all I have as I’ll imagine scenarios of my own with this movie. Especially Asha and Star as a couple, really can’t believe they refused to go back to the romance aspect at least once…

Just watched Across the spiderverse
Ok no offense, genuinely I don’t get this, maybe I’m not the intended audience. I love animation, I don’t really care about superheroes but my bf wanted to watch this movie so I agreed. I went with no expectations. I’ll start with the good parts :
- The characters are amazing, I loved most of the storylines individually. I won’t go into details here but I can’t think of one I disliked.
- Animation and art was incredible. Every universe was well-crafted and beautifully animated with a distinctive style. Special mention to the Renaissance monster made of parchment. The action sequences are flawless.
Ok now the bad things :
- There are sooooo many things happening !! We see all these families, all those spiderpersons but we don’t really go deep with any of them. I wish the movie would stop sometimes and give us more time with one character instead of jumping from one to the other. Why didn’t they choose one or two universe and focus on them ?
- Where is the plot ? Is there a plot ? I spent 2/3 of the movie wondering where it went. Seriously what’s the point ? Putting a lot of cool characters does not a coherent plot make. (yes I know there’s a plot but it only unravels in the last part and the rest of the movie seems completely unfocused)
- The animation was good like I said above. But. Does it ever stop ? The Ekko/Jinx fight was so impactful in Arcane because it was one fight ! But in this movie every single scene is filled to the brim with special effects, groundbreaking animation and so on. Yeah you’re able to do that, we get it, no need to put it in every single scene ! Even dialog scenes were so heavily stylized. Imo it cheapens the strong moments. (Yes I loved the pastel palette in Gwen’s world. But do you really need to change it in every shot ? The hug when it all goes white would have been way more impactful if there wasn’t a color change in every single shot before that.)
- No warning for epilepsy. Seriously.
- Maybe only my opinion but the screenplay felt like a videogame to me.
- again maybe only my opinion but too many memes especially in the spider centre (don’t know how to call that). Felt like fan service to me.
TLDR : good parts individually, sum of the parts awful. 2h20 long epilepsy-inducing glorified videogame cinematic that goes nowhere. I genuinely don’t get how it can be called a good movie. (sorry I’m frustrated)

HOLY SHIT SHIFTING REVELATION:
I got a reading done a few months ago, that said my indecision on deciding where to go and overthinking my shifting routine, was keeping me in my CR.
For a while, I didn’t understand *why* this was stopping me from shifting, but then I realised:
The more I think about being anxious in my CR about trying to go to my DR, the more likely I am to be stuck here - because I’m too busy worrying about issues in my CR, when I could be worrying about my DR issues instead!
In shifting, you’re trying to detach yourself from your CR and move to your DR, so worrying about your CR problems is just going to keep you grounded in this reality.
And that’s why you. Let. Your. CR. Go.
