i don't know how to make this into a story, but one of my worst attributes is that i make so much sense to myself that i can totally forget that what im doing looks strange to other people. and i just remembered this incident in sixth grade where i learned that churning milk yields butter and i was fascianted by that because i had always wondered from whence butter. so i took my cafeteria milk box and i shook it vigorously all lunch and all recess (where it was over 100, because of course it was) and i was even shaking it in class, when my teacher, who was a saint for many reasons, came over and said:

hey.

babs.

what are you doing.

and i looked at this poor, patient, wonderful man like he was the dumbest motherfucker that id ever met. and i said

shaking milk

because that is what i was doing, and the butter thing was implied because why else would anyone shake milk.

he took this in his stride. instead of doubling down, or repeating himself, he said ah, as if i had actually explained myself to him, and then he walked away because he was willing to tolerate disrespect so long as it was amusing.

people like that are why i survived to adulthood.

anyway, he really did get the last laugh because after shaking that milk for four hours, i finally opened the tiny carton when i got home, and instead of there being delicious butter there was insanely rotten froth and it smelled and looked so bad i threw up a little. so. you got me there mr. c. you got me there.

I find it so ironic how many stereotypes about narcissists aren't just inaccurate, but are actually the complete opposite of how the average narcissist thinks.

"narcissism is excessive self-love" when most narcissists feel shame more easily than non-narcs do.

"narcissists don't work hard" when most narcissists are prone to perfectionism.

"narcissists are abusers who only pretend to be victims" when most narcissists were abused in childhood and are often on the receiving end of abusive relationships in adulthood.

"narcissists don't try to fit in" when most narcissists are constantly watching for signs of respect or criticism, constantly adjusting our behavior so those around us will see us as competent and pleasant.

and then when you describe what narcissism is actually like, they insist that a narcissist would never act like that, that anyone who fits that description must just have post-traumatic stress or one of the "good" PDs (if they believe there are good ones, that is).

Just got back from seeing the live action HTTYD movie!! Now let me say that I had pretty high expectations for this movie as the original still remains my Favorite Film of All Time Ever and I was actually SHOCKED at how good it was. Disney take notes bc THAT is how you do a live action movie. It was so faithful to the original down to the actual shots, music and camera direction, I was actually in awe at how they essentially just copied the original film practically line for line. Ofc there were a couple changes here and there, some added dialogue and character interactions, but overall it was super close to the original. I had legitimate goosebumps during the test flight scene AGH they captured everything so well and as a diehard HTTYD fan since 2010 I’m so so happy with how well they captured the essence of the original 😭

Anyway if you’ve been debating over going to see it after being disappointed time and time again by Disney’s shitty live action remakes PLEASE give this one a shot. Dreamworks did it right and they should be praised for a fantastic job well done 👏

Hold on. Harrow never actually learned about Gideon's origins, right? She'd checked out by the time Gideon learned and like... there was a lot going on when she finally woke up. There might be more that happened after Alecto also woke up that we just haven't seen yet, but as far as we know she's just now finding out about it or hasn't quite yet. But I just noticed—

Harrow the Ninth, Chapter 49

Gideon has Wake's jaw (among other features) and John's eyes (I assume shape too) and brows. Harrow subconsciously fucking clocked the resemblance. (Edit to clarify: Like, she saw Wake's face, and by then she'd remembered Gideon, but subconsciously clocked "this is almost Gideon's face, this part is spot on, but these parts are Wrong." But given one of the AUs...)

Anatomist Mercymorn, who knows the human body beyond mortal comprehension and who has been close to John for 10,000 years, who had actively worried the new Ninth baby might have been John's kid, saw a young woman she knew to be the Ninth's cavalier who looked strikingly like Wake and suspiciously wasn't decomposing, and still didn't recognize John's features or think to check her eye color. She was so absolutely convinced Blood of Eden must just be incompetent and wrong that she barely looked.

Yet Harrowhark, who had specifically forced herself to forget Gideon existed, still recognized enough that when she started to remember her brain supplied the Divine Highness suitor AU. Truly one of the most down bad characters of all fucking time.
