It's Benny who sees her first - one night, while Dean sleeps, he catches the red flash of her eyes from the bushes. He doesn't make a sound, or move to get up - just tilts his head to the side and grips the hilt of his blade in invitation. She retreats, nothing betraying her exit except the missing gleam of eyes. She's light on her feet.

In the morning, Benny is only half sure he didn't imagine it - there are no tracks in the underbrush, no snapped branches or crushed leaves; as if it had been an hallucination or a ghost.

Three days later, Benny is sure he's spotted a flash of blonde behind them, the whisper of hair blown in the breeze. The tree is several dozen paces off, and he can't be sure, but the hackles on the back of his neck rise at odd hours more and more. He's almost certain Dean hasn't noticed - too focused on finding the angel, on staying alive, on the idea of home. He already sleeps in fits - an hour or two here or there with Benny keeping watch, the only sleeper in a sleepless land. Days, weeks, or perhaps years, are spent like this - Benny keeping watch with the sense of being watched, Dean sleeping as much as his adrenaline will allow.

The light here never reaches more than the thin grey of pre-dawn - never enough to eradicate the shadows, never enough to reveal their shadow for who she is. When she finally slips up, finally makes a mistake, comes a little too close, it's because Benny is lying in wait for her. Three steps into the copse of trees they're resting in, his blade is at her neck.

"You been following us for weeks, cher." Benny growls low in her ear, "Coulda made a move at any time - but you didn’t. Care to tell me who you are and why that is?"

Emma is frozen - hardly to able to speak, unable to move for fear of that blade nicking the wrong spot - afraid of what the others call 'the final sleep' afraid of the dark place that haunts her dreams - the reason no one sleeps here anymore.

"I'm not here to hurt you, or-" she swallows harshly, the words sticking in her throat, "or him. I just-"

And what exactly is she doing? She left the safety of her people, the caves in which they take refuge, the small group of sisters and two mothers who have been banished to this place, in order to trail the vampire and her - the hunter. Not her father. Amazons don't have fathers, don't rely on men, don't desire them, don't need them - and yet, here she is, weeks away from home, from safety, from her sisters. Following men through the wastelands.

thank you thank you (and thank you for taking part in it especially!) and for real, for an idea that started as a "oops I didn't give enough time to prep an actual prompt" I'm so glad I did it. there have been some amazing fics, fanart, poems, videos and art I never would've discovered otherwise and that would've gotten lost in the Tumblr algorithm forever.

In the early morning, Dean gets his period, and Cas lives up to his duties of being a great husband.

For years and years, Dean Winchester had been a very poor sleeper. Many night he spent on the cheap, hard mattresses of America’s motels, or in worse cases, the back seat of Baby. Then his soul lived through years of literal, burning hell, and his already poor sleep became even worse.

For the longest time, Dean ran on the bare minimum. A few, nightmare-soaked hours and coffee so strong it could knock out a horse, and off he went on the next hunt, until one day, this would all kill him.

At some point, his life took a hard turn into something much, much more positive.

Now, each night, he goes to sleep next to Castiel, the love of is life, who, despite losing his grace and turning human, still soothes all is nightmares and pains that used to keep him awake, just by staying by his side.

Or, all but one pain, that is.
