This was certainly not Opal laying low and playing it safe. Since she'd adopted this new façade, she'd done very little to actually build out the character she'd decided to play here. Was it that this town was full of more shady types like her that could recognize a game or was she just losing her touch?

Either way, she shouldn't have been here. Their business should have been a one and done— no well-worn path to trace between them. But for as careful as she always had to be, she couldn't deny that it felt just as good as it did terrifying to remove her mask. Clem didn't know her, even still, but she knew enough. Just as Opal knew enough about her should she ever need to indulge in a little mutual destruction.

So, here she was, perfectly manicured nails— painted a drab olive green she hated, but thought the character of Opal would probably love— curled into a loose fist to knock against the door. In her other hand, a bottle of grocery store wine. As the door opened to her, Opal smirked, raising the shit wine in offering. "If I pay the troll toll, can I come in?"

"You fucked that. You," Alec argued as he rolled from his side to his front so that he could clumsily push himself back up. They'd drawn the attention of almost everyone at the bar— save for the one they'd singled out— and he made a face at Clem as her hand reached out to help him up. He had half a mind to tug her back down, a small price to pay for shoving all of the blame onto him when she'd decided to play spider monkey, but instead, he found his feet, smoothing out his flannel and jeans like they hadn't already been wrinkled as shit before he'd landed himself on the floor.

"If we're real fast, we could catch her. I bet she wouldn't be freaked out at all by a two foot tall Ring Girl backwards crab-walking through the crowed to get her number. You should give it a try." He scored a hand through his hair as he gave an encouraging nod in the direction of the door.

Truth be told, Clem was expecting Alec to have better balance. There’s gotta be a reason he’s survived this long being this tall, right? Her faith is proven to be misplaced, however, when — in a clear attempt to shake her off — he leans too far down, and somehow manages to bring them both down at once. Clem feels the wind knock out of her in a single breath, the impact hitting her first, and she groans in both pain and accusation. “You dumb fuck,” she exhales weakly, rolling over onto her stomach. There are a couple of people giving them strange looks, some concerned — Clem finds the blonde that had been their finish line in the midst of all this, giving them both unimpressed and, tragically, uninterested looks.

“Oh, we fucked that,” Clem moans, rolling onto her back again beside Alec. “We fucked that big time.” Someone above them asks if they’re okay, holding out a hand. Clem takes it before Alec can, allowing herself to stand, then helps Alec up, too, because she’s a good fucking friend, lest he forget it. “She’s leaving,” she informs Alec morosely, watching as the blonde scurries her way to the exit. Jesus Christ, her ass is gonna bruise, for sure. “Looks like it’s gonna be lines at home, after all.”

Oh god I must know everything about your modern au 😫🙏

mostly i just wanted to explore the idea of vi meeting clem while her relationship with minnie is falling apart and shes desperately trying to pick up the pieces (while minnie lets her do it all by herself). she needs to learn to let go and to stop trying to save minnie from her own self destruction. to not be scared of change and to choose someone who matches the effort she puts in. for the real longers and yearners out there. who also love mess :)

louis meets clem and gets her to come to a party hes hosting. there she meets vi, who she immediately hits it off with (after vi apologizes (is forced to by louis) for a rude introduction), but minnie interrupts them before clem has the chance to ask her out. realizing vi is already taken, clem gives louis his chance, hoping to move on. and well :) as clem and vi become closer friends they realize all they really want is each other 😏 though theyll try so hard to deny it. theyre gonna try to make their relationships work until they cant anymore 😭

it only exists as a (pretty long) script in my notes app. i dont trust the general fandom public to be normal about characters struggling with their relationships especially when they end in breakups 😭 i cant even post about vi and minnies canon messy relationship without people being weird about it so i just keep it to myself 🙄 but if people are actually interested maybe i'll post more 😏

minnie is pretty absent in her relationship with vi. but when clem shows up, vi starts to change. clem inspires vi to do and be better. to want better for herself. and minnie is threatened by that :) since she never expected vi to ever move on from her

Clemont is just really funny in general i think. he's just like that, realistically theres so much to unpack about him;

he made an entire invention where he spoke to the mayor and was spread out across the town of the uni he was in which he got in at the age of maybe like 8.

he's a gym leader. he lost his gym to his invention,

there was the slightest chance he could've been mind controlled.

his bag is a bag of holding

he can't run

his entire mental state is the way it is because of a single mistake that wasn't even his fault

There's so much to unpack about him and the creators were like; "yeah anyways!"

okay but seriously, i think we as a fandom neglect the fact that if it wasn't for Clemont's anxious(???) paranoid(???) quick thinking(???) overly prepared(???) he probably he would've gotten mind controlled. like what was up with that.

Clemont is his own bag of holding lol, there really is SO MUCH with him and I'm shaking you on the shoulders rn clem nonnie. Please. How is it possible that there is so much to him as it is. I need to study him under a microscope.

With the first point, that always made me laugh in a way lol. Him at the age of possibly eight created a power source slash Electric Pokemon recharger for a whole town/city. The mayor has noticed his efforts. This is before he is a Gym Leader, and this is the place where he made the promise to Shinx (a promise that he broke, not by any fault of his own, but by the very thing that brought them together in the first place).

The way he actually just straight up lived in Prism Tower, or at least that's how it felt, along with Bonnie. Their father is in the same city with a house but they won't bother with that and he doesn't bother them until they are MIA for at the very least a few weeks if not months. His reasoning for being a Gym Leader is to wield Electric Types from every region and become an Electric-Type Trainer that the world has never seen. The fact that he can be this ambitious with battling gets me (and also his learning from school carrying over c':)

His bag is also a mechanical marvel (not Volcanion, sorry). His Aipom Arm has only malfunctioned once (1 time), and he's easily able to lift Bonnie into the air with it. Also we never see this beyond the first ep but it has an inflatable airbag??? That is actually safe and comfortable to land on even with the everything in his bag as it is.

Even after the whole series and after everything they've ever went through, he still cannot run. Only one time he has ever sprinted ahead (in this realm/dimension) and that was to get to a festival about Zapdos of all Pokemon (and maybe that inventing fair as well??). No one comments on it beyond that one moment. He's also tried to make shoes to help him go up hills quicker but he never tried that one again lol (he forgot he even had it until Serena mentions the monorail, in which also, wow. this gang i swear).

That's actually one of the saddest parts (and something I can totally relate with). The way that we see him so happy and open with Shinx beforehand, ready to learn and be hands on and playing outside even with all the work that he had. And then we hear about how he lost his Gym, how his Pokemon disregard his words and his invention doesn't see him as worthy or strong enough, and it really is him just living out a nightmare of his own making in a way. His fear from back then keeps haunting him with the mistakes that he makes now, and even after meeting with Luxio again you can see the way he just... accepts that he's no longer wanted or forgiven. He's fine with it. He rather everyone have a better life than he does. Just,, he needs a hug. Lots of them.

HELP PLS you've said exactly what I've been thinking off this whole time!! Geez, I thought I was alone in thinking that we brush off whatever happened to Clemont in 'The Needs of Many!' like I get that we lose Greninja, but hello? He got straight-up kidnapped right in front of our eyes! He was going to be made into a superhuman (which has some very very worrying connotations beyond what is already happening). He too was blasted by the Mega Evo Energy, and even if he did resist the mind control, there's got to be other effects as well. If his friends weren't OP and reckless as they were he would've actually been carted away to who knows where and it would've been a matter of time until his preventive measures were found out. And the way he already had a counter against it, against the beam specifically (and for it to be able to work without any issues) is also so sad and worrying in a way?? It's definitely paranoia to me, it was very specific (more than usual, anyways), small enough to hide and easy enough for him to grab. Poor boy :(( I need to just sit down and think every time I remember this is an ep that exists because they just went ham with it, didn't they??

"Louis would do it for us" "...I guess"

WHAT WAS THE REASON. WHY.

I think I know why.

So, yes—when we're trying to get James to help us, Clementine has to walk through the barn with his mask on. AJ's understandably anxious about this, and here's how these optional conversations can go:

Clementine: You know Violet would do it for us. AJ: Yeah... She would.

Clementine: Louis would do it for us. AJ: Yeah. I guess.

So... why? Why this small difference in the way AJ reacts? Or, even in the way Clementine phrases it?

I think it's easier for us who like Louis/clouis to look at this negatively, like "Well, what the hell? That seems unfair."

But, we gotta remember which route this appears in. AJ doesn't say this in Louis' route, he says it in Violet's route where Louis is captured.

In that route, we obviously spend less time with Louis. More importantly, he doesn't get to grow as much as a character. That's the nature of this game; you know less about the one you don't choose.

The player probably didn't go hunting with him, didn't appeal to him, didn't follow him, and definitely didn't save him... meaning the perception of him might not be the greatest depending on the player. Especially if that player is still pissed about his vote... and I think AJ might be echoing some of that doubt.

Violet in Louis' route, at the very least, earns some favor by voting to keep Clementine and AJ. Hence why Clementine is pretty confident that Violet would do this for them and why AJ agrees... even though through meta-knowledge we know that Violet despises Clementine for letting her get captured. So, we could argue that she wouldn't do it for them in that moment. It's all part of the irony that ep3 likes to play into... y'know, "Imagine how Violet will feel when she finds out you came to rescue her. You'll have given her hope again."

Oh, will she have hope again, Lee? Is that what she's going to feel when she sees Clementine again? Are you sure?

But, in Violet's route, Louis is shown to be apologetic but not to have stepped up. He doesn't get the chance to. Hence why Clementine states he'd do it for them without the "you know" and why AJ seems more doubtful.

And the thing is, anyone who knows anything about Louis knows that he would do it no matter the route... but he'd also complain about it, y'know?

Fine, he'll climb up and distract the walkers, but he's gonna make a half-hearted threat about eating first Clem and Violet if he dies. Fine, he'll rub walker guts all over himself, but he's gonna be grumpy about it. Fine, he'll carry the bomb when they infiltrate the boat, but he's gonna be anxious about it the entire time.

Like... sometimes, that's just how Louis is?

If it were him James handed that mask to and asked to walk among walkers, Louis would be like, "Fine, but only because Clem, AJ, and my friends are my reason for existing and without them, I'll die anyway... and because I'll look good in these walker skins."

On the other hand, Violet's more of a "just shut up and do it," kind of gal. You hand her the mask and she'll be like, "Ugh, fine. Let's get this over with."

So yeah, there's a purpose for the slight against Louis there. You don't know him unless you choose him, and if you don't, the game adjusts accordingly.

I also see this sentiment of "Why would AJ say that??" at the end of Louis' route where AJ has the option to question why Clementine's trusting him with an important task.

But, like... you don't have to pick that option. Y'know? I understand being annoyed that it's even there; I was annoyed, too... but, if you like Louis and you understand his arc, you're not going to have AJ say that. Because you know better. You didn't just hear the jokes and the piano. You're making sure AJ didn't stop listening, either.

In my opinion, that choice is there to test you.

So yeah, anon, I hope this reasoning helps.
