Caroline was relieved to see an at least somewhat familiar face when she realized it was her new coworker beside her. "Lobster costing so much is utter bullshit when it's so cheap to get." One of the good things about growing up where she did- the freshest (and cheapest if you knew people) seafood around. "Popcorn shrimp sounds good though. Maybe one day we can go halfsies on some lobster?"

Mikey didn't know her new co-worker very well but she was always happy to try to make the newbies at When in Rome feel welcome. Mikey knew all too well what it was like to be the new person somewhere so she always tried extra hard to be friendly.

"Umm.. I like their popcorn shrimp, it's my favorite. They also have lobster and crab, but the lobster is for fancy folk with money. That is not me." Mikey laughed softly.

"Good." She'd heard of devil's marks while reading The Crucible. Harmless birthmarks on women contributed to devil's work. "I keep mine well hidden beneath my skirts." If she stood a little straighter at that, shamelessly flirting, then who was around to berate her? Certainly none of her friends.

"Either way I applaud your chivalry." She made a sloppy attempt at a curtsy there. "As I pirate I assume you know the best spots to get absolutely, smashing drunk."

"Challenge." he repeated the term, smile broadening just a little bit. "My mistake." there had always been something about Noa that had drawn him in growing up, something he'd always struggled to shake. Not that he could really put his finger on it in the moment, hazed from the couple beers he'd had already.

"I'm not scared of devil's mark." not that he fully understood what it actually meant, and not one hundred percent certain what was going through her head (which honestly, wasn't anything new). Noa had always been guarded, just like he was, if not to more extent. "No maiden, witch or otherwise, deserves death... so I guess I can be chivalrous enough to let you come with me on my travels."

Emerson went quiet for a moment when the woman spoke, saying Jace liked her. Did he still have feelings for her? "I....I think that might be past tense. The um..the liking part." Romantically anyways. Jace would be in her circle for forever so she'd have to just get used to being around him again regularly is all. And in trying to do that, she needed to not have mixed signals thrown at her. "Look, um...Mikey? I..I don't know what you know, but...it was a long time ago. And whatever we were... Like I said. Past tense. He made that clear to me back in New York."

"Oh, I don't think you have to be the one to reach out at all, I just need you to know he's an idiot. He likes you but he's being a mopey little dick about it. I--" Mikey paused, realizing how weird she worded that. "I didn't mean to make that sound like Moby Dick. Anyway! All I know is that you guys were great for each other and he ruined it because he thinks he's not good enough. I keep telling him to stop being mopey and do something about it, but he likes to change the subject and talk about his possibly failing coffee shop? Honestly, I have no idea if it's doing well or not because even the employee talks about how shitty it is compared to the cat cafe and I honestly have taken her word for it."

Isabel snorted lightly, "I think good already might've knocked that series out." Granted, she didn't remember the books much and even less the movies but the overall not re-read worthy was there. Maybe she should've thought this through before hand. "Fiction please, I have too many scientific text throughout the day to do non-fiction. I guess I don't have a preference between third-person or first."

          “ So . . . the Twilight series doesn’t count? ” Mikey joked as he turned to look at them. He just finished reading Mexican Gothic and contemplated buying a copy. There are still a few spaces on his newest shelf. “ I might be able to recommend a good title or two. Do you prefer a third-person kind of fiction or first-person? ” He asked, offering the other a small smile. “ Or non-fiction? ”
