I speedran Flesh.png's BadTober on stream today. I just barely missed the midnight cutoff, but I think that's appropriate for a Tober which is Bad.

fun tidbits: Krupp’s original design has “362” on one arm and is a dead ringer for the paint job on the irl Amtrak 362, which was an EMD F40PHR diesel that ran from the early 80s-2000s. Smallish but dependable passenger diesel engine widely used by Amtrak at the time, still used on several commuter lines today. Looks like this specific one got sent to San Luis and Rio Grande in Colorado and possibly made a “road slug” in the 2000s, basically had engine/controls removed and used as extra traction motors.

A bunch of these were gutted and used to remotely control engines on the other end of the train for push/pull service as cabbage (cab/baggage) cars. A husk possessing others is a terrifying concept that’s incredibly common with irl trains, it’s done to a lot of passenger diesels that aren’t needed as engines anymore.

When I first saw a picture of the single porthole on the backside of these things I laughed because ha. butt. And then had the horrifying realization that it also resembles the soul-sucking hole on Shedinja and that weirdly fits with how cab cars are also technically haunted shells.

Interesting detail that supports the idea of “chauffeur Krupp” being a diesel engine (which would fit being a chauffeur since the US is only 1% electrified and Electra WOULD need someone to pull them around the rest). This setup would happen irl several years later in 1991-2 with the conveniently oddball (and German influenced) F69PHAC locomotives that hauled around an ICE train on a national tour and were barely used outside that.

As I mentioned in the tags of this post: pictures of our old steam engine and Caboose that are now decorative!

The caboose was given a fresh coat of paint and seemingly a good deep clean this last year(she was looking a bit rough from 2013 to 2023 with chipping paint and spiderwebs)

I use to play in that red caboose as a kid whenever mom would let my sibling and I, always having to be mindful of the copious amounts of spiderwebs it always seemed to have.

The old “freight car”, people use to be able to ride on when it was a functioning train, is open near the locomotive for function and they’ve very logically blocked off the actual locomotive controls years(if not decades) ago.

There are so many good memories associated with this little train by the information centre.

But yeah, it’s service as a functioning train was stopped before I was born because the caboose was considered too dangerous. But my mom grew up in town and said that it use to circle the waterfront and whistle, the caboose operator sometimes giving information as a tour guide.

Bonus of the old hangar I also mentioned in the other post!

Its right by the civic centre and walking paths near the river (which coincidentally is a river some nautical battles took place in in the 1700’s)

Steaming Mary

My first G scale model engine we got when I was 4.

I just got out her and her caboose, I do have all the original cars, but they are still in storage.

Years ago my Dad got a realistic Porter tank engine set, so I claimed Mary. Last year that tank engine had problems so Diesel took over, but everyone is asking for a steam engine so I pulled Mary out. She's still going strong.
