He needed to go home. Miles had felt fine that morning, no issues until after he'd gotten into the office. Work had gone on as usual, though as the day progressed he started to feel sick. He was so sure that he was alright for now. But he'd already come back after his second trip to the bathroom to throw up. Surely he could just grab his things and leave, right?

As he moved to collect his stuff he felt significantly worse. His body was hot, that pins and needles feeling prickling up his body. A hand tugged his cravat loose as it felt like he was having trouble breathing. Dizziness crashed over him like a wave and suddenly his vision went black.

THUD!

He wasn't sure how long he was lying there for but at some point he could faintly hear someone knocking on his office door and a voice calling his name. He couldn't find the strength to call out to him.

The witness, ironically by the name of Lost Cause, decided early that morning that he'd had quite enough of the 'ceaseless bickering, between the defense and the prosecution and came up with a 'fool proof solution'.

...A pair of handcuffs. And worst of all, he'd conveniently lost the key.

As if the investigation wasn't already difficult enough, now he and the prosecution had to do it together, side by side.

( I guess I won't be able to pull any punches tomorrow... )

Visibly annoyed, Phoenix mutters under his breath in a suspiciously Markiplier-like cadence, "I could have been an art student... "

"Hmm.. So in a pinch just some ice and water will do huh?" Nix wasn't sure what he had against milk and creme but to each their own. There were a lot of coffee drinkers that liked to strictly have nothing added to their drinks. She personally liked making them sweet and rarely had it black. Then again.. was it okay to be having a casual conversation with the prosecution? Well Phoenix wasn't around to advise her otherwise. "I can't remember the last time I drank it straight black myself.. I just remember a bitter taste lingering."

He exhales audibly, annoyed. Maybe it would have been better to take the stairs to avoid this sort of conversation... but he's already running late, and neither his client nor the judge will be too happy to see him as it is.

If he ignores Godot for long enough, maybe he'll take the hint. It's as good a time as ever to review the case, anyway...............

Where is the file.

He pats his coat once. Twice. And then groans. He left it on the table at home in a hurry, trying to get out the door!

So, he turns to the button panel and tries to get the elevator to stop at the nearest floor. This is beyond embarrassing at this point.

" I'm so dead, " he mumbles, pushing the button again. The elevator does not stop and continues to carry them upwards dutifully.

" H-hold on... "

@lxgic-chess : Phoenix's partner. Recently, they confessed their love to each other. They do not live together, but they are seen together quite often, despite being rival counsel. If you are to observe closely, Phoenix has a tendency to hold Mile's pinky with his pinky when he thinks they're alone. @thebladesmithmuses : your honor, that is Phoenix's older half-sister. He is 13 years younger than her and always looked up to/idolized her when he was very young, but they moved to separate countries for a large portion of his childhood. Still, Jane came to visit occasionally, and they are close into their adult lives. @caffeinatedprosecutor : a rival prosecutor. Godot has a tendency to taunt Phoenix both in court and outside of it, and has thrown scalding hot coffee in his face before. Phoenix dislikes Godot but continues to provoke him for some god-forsaken reason. (I have not played the game with Godot in it yet!) @loveleftbehind : Phoenix is representing Lydia in court, despite the mountain of evidence that pins the crime on her. Still, he believes in his client's innocence, and will do everything in his power to make sure to get the verdict she deserves. @patetpluvia: Nix is Phoenix's assistant. She is always welcome at the Wright & Co office, and provides valuable help. She was also once his client in a case with many twists and turns, but he was able to prove her innocence and become her friend.

Well, there's no time like the present to reshuffle his deck. Despite what Godot thinks, he has come prepared. He's holding a hand out to retrieve the stray card the prosecutor is hanging on to under the assumption that it'll complete the deck.

"That was just a warm-up, anyway."

Attempts to shuffle a deck of cards but does it so poorly they all end up on the floor.
