@thefeistydragon I checked it up and actually the letters fallen from the tree are exactly the ones needed to write "turn to mush upon the groun"
(if you're curious the fallen letters are - from top to bottom - o o m n g o u u h h r s r t u t p n t n u e)

I love it when I do shit like this when the theme for an assignment is vague enough I can leap out the window!
(unfortunately, I then have to suffer the consequences of my own hubris)

Journaling Ideas- Poetry
Here are some poetry types that would be fun to experiment with in your journal, most which incorporate different artistic mediums!
Visual Poetry
Poetry that incorporates visual elements.
Concrete Poetry-
A poem that is written and manipulated to create a visual image that resembles the subject or theme of the work.
Calligrams Poetry-
Similar to concrete poetry, the work is written to resemble the subject or object of the text, but its emphasis is on the elaborate calligraphy of the words or individual letters to create the image.
Haiga-
A form of Japanese visual art where a haiku (a three line nature themed poem) is accompanied by a painted picture.

Blackout Poetry- Also called: Erasure Poetry
Redacting large portions of text from a pre-existing passage, except for select words or phrases, to create a new work from what remains. Also Called: Erasure Poetry

or, alternate title: leanne, loml, how in the everloving fuck do you do this??
Tumblr media
-
story time! leanne gave me some words to make a poem of and i thought it would be fun to try do make a calligram like she has before (check it out here and here!!). i was wrong. both my eyes were twitching in the end because the words would not make a triangle. what the fuck. ive never really had to worry about how words are shaped so it was an interesting experience i guess but jesus christ. i went for triangle because i thought it would be pretty easy to make because i mean it's such a simple shape. i was wrong again. it still looks like shit. a fucking bird could draw a better triangle than whatever this shit is lol. but that's okay. now i have learned to appreciate leanne's poems even more :)
i also made a meme to visualise it:

I would chase      the setting sun          along the horizon                          if it meant                          that I could rest                          my head                          upon                     your chest....          To lose myself      For the remainder Of my days

Calligraphic Galleon Dated A.H. 1180 / A.D. 1766–67 Calligrapher: ‘Abd al-Qadir Hisari, Turkey Ink and gold on paper; 19 x 17 in. (48.3 x 43.2 cm)
This calligraphic drawing (calligram) of a ship at sea exemplifies one of the most innovative artistic genres developed by Ottoman calligraphers while also conveying an important religious message.
The combination of Qur’anic verses, prayers, and poetry venerating the Prophet renders this calligram an object of talismanic devotional power.
Visual Analysis. The prow, deck, hull, and stern of the ship are formed by a gilded calligraphic inscription that names the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus, as well as their dog Qitmir. On the stern, the Throne verse from the Qur’an (2:255) acknowledges God’s power to protect and preserve everything in his kingdom. The verse is believed to have the power to avert evil. Below the distinctive imperial emblem or insignia on the stern is a dedication to the Ottoman sultan Mustafa III (reigned 1757–74). Calligraphy dominates the composition; even the waves in the scene contain aphorisms in a minute script whose name, ghubar, means “dustlike.”
Context. Calligrams were especially popular in Ottoman art; many were made in the form of lions, storks, peacocks, mosques, and ships. The imagery and text featured here derive from the story of the Seven Sleepers—a legend dating back to pre-Islamic times that became a metaphor for divine protection. The story, included in passage 18:9–25 of the Qur’an, took place in Ephesus (a town in present-day Turkey). Three Christian youths fled a pagan town and were later joined by four others and a dog. Determined to punish the fugitives for not respecting the pagan gods, the ruler set after the youths. The seven men and their dog found refuge in a cave, where they fell asleep. God ordered the angels of death to take their souls until the danger had passed. Three hundred and nine years later, God breathed life into them again. The image of the ship also carries symbolic meaning. In illustrated manuscripts and written sources, the Islamic faith is sometimes represented as a ship in a stormy sea. According to religious sources, if a ship was inscribed with the names of the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus, it would not sink.

Harrow the Ninth calligram—does this count as fanart?
Tumblr media
Ever since I read the first paragraph of chapter 36 of Harrow the Ninth, I knew I had to do something with it. Finally got my personal gothic-like handwriting to a place I liked so I figured it was time.
Some making-of stuff under the cut.

Trouble.
They say it's a river,
Flowing on and on,
Never stopping,
Never slowing.
Never showing
What it used to be.
Always water, ever changing.
They say what is done is done.
The water which once was
Is long gone
Down

But
I know
That it's
Every grain
Of sand that falls
Into my open grave.
I count them as they
Pile up against my legs.
Piling up around my waist.
Piling up around my shoulders.
Piling up until the wait is finally over.
Piling up until the day I can't count them.

It's so convenient and beautiful that the spanish word for eye, which is also used as "watch out", looks like a face. Imagine you see a little drawing of a face looking startled like you need to watch out, and it LITERALLY (not literally, but that's what it means in that context) spells out "watch out". Or alternatively, a drawing of eyes at an ophthalmologist that literally spells eye. Amazing shit
