An unusual view of the blooming world in the works of the artist Viktor Nikolaevich Novokreshchenov, 1950 - 2010
Viktor Novokreshchenov was born in Samara. In 1980 he graduated from the Kharkov Art Academy, specializing in "monumental and decorative art". The artist's path is unusual - he became interested in painting only at the age of 25. Novokreshchenov mainly worked in a country house in Zubchaninovka (a suburban village in Samara), which is why he is sometimes called a recluse. And also "Samara Van Gogh" and "Samara Chagall".
Undoubtedly, he is one of the most striking representatives of expressionism among the artists of Samara. In his works you can find "Van Gogh-like" plots - bouquets of sunflowers, an ascetic artist's room, marginal faces with mysterious grins … Novokreshchenov has an absolutely free command of color and composition. From Chagall in his painting - people soaring in the cosmic sky, flight and aspiration to another reality. But the artist himself did not like when he was compared with other painters, and believed that he had his own path in art. The viewer will recognize Novokreshchenov's "handwriting" in the author's disproportion of figures, original painting technique, amazing combination of colors and creative boldness of the artist.
Member of the Creative Union of Artists of the Russian Federation, International Federation of Artists, Professional Union of Artists of the Russian Federation. The artist's paintings are in the collection of the Samara Art Museum, private collections and galleries in Russia, Europe, America.

Me: yeah I can do the pet portraits for [s's mil] but obvs want to do them on the same kind of surface as the other one, can you find out if the panel is cradled or flat? *includes photos taken at an angle so u can see the dimension/depth of the cradled panel vs the flat panel*
S: sure *sends photo of the painting hanging on the wall, photo is taken from directly in front of it* [mil] says the canvas feels like wood :)
Me:............. (YES IT IS WOOD BECAUSE ITS A WOOD PANEL HELLO?????? ADHAJHDSJSJEJEN THAT IS NOT HELPFUL!!!!!)
#Like I mean the photo is a tiny bit helpful bc i do see a shadow on the wall that suggests its a cradled panel. which matches my memory#of working on that one and j's painting#but like. without a photo taken FROM THE SIDE i cant actually be SURE#and thats why my photo i sent her showed it from the side...#also 'the canvas feels like wood' maam thats bc its not a damn canvas#technically the surface is hdf/masonite/hardboard but the cradle if it has one is wood#and masonite is wood-adjascent. wood fiber!#so it still doesnt necessarily help me#also s talked me into giving a discount bc she wants to order them as gifts for j's mom. and one for j too#and wants to know how long theyll take#an estimate at least#and I'm like..... ok theres what 3 or 4? or more than that?? and $35 each. instead of $50ea which i actually thought was kind of low. i#idk#like if [mil] was the one ordering them id charge full price :b she has $$$#but s+j arent that well off#so i guess its fineeee#anyway timeline is....maybe a couple of months.#which tells me i should only do two comms available at a time when i post the listing on etsy#bc 3-4 paintings at one time? on top of my other projects?#plus s still wants me to finish the illustrations for her book#like i dislike that this means i cant post the comm listing until I'm done with all of her paintings#bc i cant have that many at the same time#and actually get them all done in a reasonable amount of time#the more paintings the longer it takes#at the most i could start 2 around the same time so i can alternate between working on them#oh and ma+dad also want a painting from me as well - a landscape/seascape#anyway yeah so i have absolutely no idea how long this will take me actually sorry

what size canvas do you typically work on ?
I don’t work on canvas because I don’t like the texture, so I work on wood or hardboard! But size wise, it totally varies. Every time I finish a painting I list it on my website with the dimensions so you can check out the sizes there!

Wedded
Artist: Frederic Leighton, 1st Baronet (English, 1830-1896)
Date: 1882
Medium: Oil on canvas mounted on hardboard
Collection: Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia
Description
A young couple embrace after their marriage. The setting is the Greek amphitheater of Taormina in Sicily. The woman is apparently based on studies Leighton made in Damascus of a Greek girl whose beauty captivated him. The picture was one of the artist's most popular works and the poet Robert Browning on inspecting it is said to have remarked: 'I find a poetry in that man's work that I can find in no other'.
