Rawhide in HD?!

Rawhide in HD? About dang time!

CBS All Access Canada has been adding the series to their streaming service, sadly it’s not available outside of Canada at the moment, and not all episodes for all seasons have been added. On the plus the dire season 4 quality we got on the DVDs collection looks to have been restored and remastered, with all 30 episodes available for that season!

Here’s a few more episode preview images.

Some of the oldest episodes’ quality is still not the greatest but far better than on the DVDs. All the episodes appear to be in the original 4x3 format.

It’s no secret that the Walt Disney Company, owner of Marvel and Lucasfilm, approached Fox Entertainment Group to buy back the film rights to Marvel’s X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises.

Disney also has been sniffing around at the possibility of buying the first six Star Wars films from Fox to add to its Lucasfilm unit – or at least license them for its upcoming OTT streaming service to compete…

I thought the Thorns insta said they were doing all matches on CBS all access in the US/CA and everywhere else globally on Twitch?

they’re broadcasting the opener and the final on CBS, but all games will be on twitch and CBSAA and re-played later on CBS Sports.

But this doesn’t give them new viewers. Most people who will pay AA to watch the games are current fans, not new ones.

Remembrance

First episode hit CBSAA an hour or so early, so I’ve just finished up.  Going to compose my thoughts, then rewatch it again tomorrow to write up my recap.

Initial thoughts: I’m excited!  I was cautiously optimistic and things are looking up.

Okay. Batwoman -- A+++++. Like seriously!! I'm not sure I'm willing to check out Nancy Drew since I got bored with Riverdale and am at least a season behind.. I don't want another teen drama.. THE PRODIGAL SON - OH MY LORD!! It's like some took Criminal Minds and The Following and Hannibal and decided to write a crossover self-insert and produce it BEAUTIFULLY?? So. Good. The others? Not sure I recognize... Where does one find ST: Picard?????

Nancy Drew has some aesthetic qualities similar to Riverdale but it seems to be very different content-wise and thematically. Hard to tell with just a few eps in, but if it helps at all - it’s more of a young adult than teen show. The main characters are somewhere between 18-23? I’d guess and it’s about their lives in town after high school for the folks who didn’t go on to college at the age most folks move away and do that. 

YES on Prodigal Sons. I was worried about the dozens of super icky ways they could be taking this show and maybe they still will with some of them because they do seem to like to push the boundaries but it has a lot of interesting things to say about trauma in complicated families and - while my family was not Quite that traumatic or complicated, it still prolly makes the list. lol So I’m digging it for the psychotherapy angle as well as the small and long arcs and character inter-development. 

Star Trek: Picard starts in January on CBSAA

As for the others you didn’t recognize - if you enjoy the psychological elements of a show and a sort of push/pull between what might be human beings being evil (or in some cases sick) vs. supernatural evil - you might wanna give Evil a check. 

And Stumptown is the BEST new show this fall, imo. We get a masculine-ish possibly bi (she’s said she’s slept with women b4 but not how she’d identify) badass war vet woman who is a total disaster in her life but is finding meaning in becoming a private eye. She has a male best friend (they did it once early on and then decided on friendship). She takes care of a brother with Downs - played by an actor who has it himself. The cast is pretty racially diverse with lots of Native characters, Michael Ealy being the kind of  hmmmm Dex doesn’t do love so sex interest?? lol The cases of the week are fun romps with real issues attached and there are some very interesting overarching arcs for several of the characters that I’m excited to see come to fruition. 

Anyway, that’s my TV proselytizing. Hope you enjoyed it! lol

Okay, so I've been dying to ask about Picard x Guinan for Next Gen for the Ship Question Thing

I love the suggestion that you had to wait for the moment to ask. Like I’m on some kind of Pixie Ships Tour you got tickets to six months ago and it’s finally happening. So thank you for that. And thank you for this pairing because YES. 

First of all, reminder that GUINAN THE SERIES should already be a thing, get on that CBSAA. And a note that I cannot think of a single person in all of Star Trek that I would not ship with Guinan. Guinan should be the constant. She should have shown up in every series and then been digitally added to TOS. Because GUINAN. 

Anyway, Guinan and Picard have an established relationship “beyond friendship and beyond family”. She counsels him, he invites her to share his hobbies, he gives her gifts, she expresses an attraction to bald men. These are all hallmarks of a romance. I say young reckless Picard met older mysterious Guinan and they had a fling. Then he found out she’s not just older, she is centuries old, and it morphs into more of a mentor thing. Then as he gets older, it morphs again into what is depicted on screen.  A relationship beyond friendship, beyond family, beyond the physical – but also all of the above are true. 

And can I just say that sex with Guinan has to be amazing? Like, she’s hundreds of years old and has been married to all sorts of people and is therefore the definition of experienced, and her main trait is being skilled at listening and reading people so like she would do and be exactly what her partner wanted??? And I think that Picard is normally so straight-laced (think of how embarrassed he is when Vash shows up and he has to admit to living out a sexy archeologist fantasy) but because of their long relationship and how comfortable they are together I can imagine him getting a little kinky with her (he’s probably still embarrassed but then Guinan encourages him to be adventurous with others, too maybe). 

He could have been one of her husbands, but they don’t need that. They transcend that. And when he eventually settles down with Beverly someone else, they may stop getting physical but their relationship doesn’t actually really change. And a hundred years later she still remembers him fondly.

It appears that Star Trek made history again in casting two gay actors, Anthony Rapp and Wilson Cruz, to play a same-sex couple on the series.

It may boggle the mind, but it is a rarity in Hollywood for leading gay characters in TV shows to actually be played by gay actors. And when same-sex couples are part of a series, it’s an unwritten rule that at least one of the actors has to be straight.
