04/09/23 - Fredericksburg, TX - JUST BECAUSE - One of the main reasons we’ve decided to settle down in the Austin area is its central location to our Texas friends and family which means we’ll be able to see our people whenever we want. Take today, we made a quick 90-minute drive through the wildflowers to Fredericksburg for lunch with our son and his family. Why? Just because we felt like it. While we have zero regrets about our almost ten years of the wandering nomad life, it’s kind of nice to just be around for a change. Life is good!

Homesick
#okay so the scenario here is that she’s visiting the coast of Enbarr in Duke Gerth’s territory#I think where she’d usually be in Duchy Gerth wouldn’t be on the coast#it’s hard to tell on the canon map but this coastal area would be like former Nuvelle territory#so Duke Gerth would probably live in a more central location#and Petra really loves the ocean and swimming#so she’d obviously want to go to the coast as often as she could#and the direction is a little off but she’s supposed to be looking south west towards Brigid#but yeah I think it would be very bittersweet for her to visit the coast some days#also she ended up looking older than I planned so maybe this is around the time she goes to Garreg Mach? idk#my art#petra macneary#fe3h#fire emblem three houses#okay actually I think some Gerth territory is on the coast but#I think Duke Gerth is probably in a central location regardless

[ Perpetua hummed softly, walking up to Copias bedroom door. He seemed to know where everything was pretty well. ]
Copia....
[ he purred almost devilishly, stepping in. ]
How is the new position?
[ @marks-of-the-evil-1 ]
(Copia didn't immediately look at him, he was standing at his bedroom mirror.)
I don't know. I've started, but I haven't really started, it's all a little crazy.
(He pauses, then turns to face Perpetua. The black and white skull makeup he had been forbidden from touching his entire life was now on his face in the shape of a rat skull. His eyes held an intense look.)
Did you not know Terzo was going to die? Or did you just forget to tell me? It would have been nice to know.

This was going to be a panel of a little comic but I got too invested in drawing minute background details so, here.
#They are having an argument over 1) whether crops can be grown on the moons 2) what - if any - impact does this have on the feasibility#of an afterlife being located on the moons#Brakul is a partial convert to the Imperial Wardi faith but this mostly entails having adopted the seven faced God (and some#other elements of the belief system) into his worldview and participating in expected rites while retaining his central#ancestor veneration practices completely unchanged and mostly prioritized.#This doesn't actually cause much friction in of itself with the big exception being disagreements on the afterlife#Wardi practices surrounding death prioritize proper handling of the corpse and funerary rites in order to get the dead where they#need to be- death is a fraught transition from one state to another. analogous to birth. The role of the living is to get the dead through#this transition (preventing them from being stuck earthbound as earthbound ghosts - which is the Bad afterlife). Once the dead#make it to the moons that's it. They don't really interact with the living. There's plenty of conceptualization of what it's Like#in the lunar lands but the cultural priority is not even slightly on the Logistics of existence there.#Whereas the CORE of religious practice among the Hill Tribes is ancestor veneration - ancestors remain interactive with the living#and require/desire their continual support. They are conceptualized as having earthlike 'lives' where they eat and drink#and grow crops and herd livestock and they need the support of the living (in prayers and offerings) to do so prosperously.#There is a HIGH cultural priority on the logistics of their afterlife and it's self-apparent that the world of the dead needs fertile earth#to support them.#So like bottom line Brakul thinks there's no goddamn way that the moons could support an afterlife (they are described as#barren rock that was flung into the sky during creation and certainly Look that way)#and that the Wardi are just wrong about their afterlife's location. They probably go to the celestial fields (which are located#behind the moons and stars) like everyone else#And Janeys finds this aggravating and doesn't see his fucking point but has developed a nagging concern that Brakul Could be#partly right in that the celestial fields could Maybe exist in addition to the lunar lands.#So like maybe they aren't going to go to the same place when they die?#He's already terrified that he'll be stuck as an earthbound ghost and really doesn't want to be even further separated so#he figures he should make sure he gets himself dead and cremated at the same time as Brakul so they can navigate the#transitional period together.#Brakul is unconcerned because he figures that if Janeys actually does get stuck on those barren ass moons he can just kinda#Go Get Him#Ancestor spirits fly to the earth all the time and the moons would be a much shorter distance. Probably wouldn't be an issue.#Long story short these disagreements and underlying anxieties result in fights over whether you can grow corn on the moons or nah

Today on Posts That Will Serve As A Blocklist but whatever:
It's genuinely at the point where people who act all dismissive and superior about the Star Wars animated series, and ESPECIALLY of Ahsoka specifically as a character--snidely dismissing anything that involves TCW-original characters or arcs--are just. Objectively hysterically wrong.
Like.
Phantom Menace released in 1999.
Revenge of the Sith was six years later, in 2005.
TCW started airing in 2008. Ahsoka started existing in the narrative literally three years after RotS dropped.
Even if you start counting as far back as you possibly can, back in TPM (wherein Anakin was an actual baby), the prequel era only existed at all without her for nine years.
Ahsoka Tano has been a narratively significant, load-bearing major protagonist of the Star Wars franchise for, as of this post, sixteen (16) years. Very nearly twice as long as her era ever existed without her! At this point, if you are determined to act like she's some handwavey 'new' star war idea whose impact on the living tapestry of the GFFA can be easily dismissed, that's...
...like, full offense but that's kind of on you, man.
#'but anakin wasn't originally planned to have--'#fuck no he wasn't!#this is star wars my friend 90% of this shit was never planned#like fucking christ THE SKYWALKER TWINS weren't even Originally Planned TM#(in OR out of universe lmao amirite)#that's how the star war has ALWAYS worked#adding things to the narrative that echo backward and forward#retroactively giving meaning to throwaway lines or one-off locations#Alderaan wasn't the galaxy's foremost provider of humanitarian aid in the OT#'Skywalker' being a traditional Tatooine slave-name was absolutely not baked in when Luke was named#the entirety of R1 wasn't 'planned' in the OT but it exists NOW#it's a patchwork quilt of a living story and that's what makes it work#we did NOT make a folk hero out of That Guy With The Ice Cream Maker for you to disrespect Ahsoka Tano's central role in this narrative--#remember your fucking ROOTS

What’s your thoughts on wui hei quan dogs?
This response is going to derail.
My thoughts about any and all non-western breeds are that English (or Norwegian, which are inevitably translated from English) sources are rubbish, and the current media environment makes it near-impossible to search for anything.
This isn't new. This is western dog fancy.
My search engines will organize my location-based results over the things i actually write in the search field. My English-language and Latin-alphabet search results will inevitably land me search results in English.
Which means that from my scope, the wui hei quan dog could be anything from a fabricated tiktok trend featuring a black "chow" puppy to a genuine heavily pigmented regional breed of Chinese farmdog ("garden dog" but I've been around this translation block before, i c u). I'm tempted to lean toward the latter, just because the google search results want me to exchange "wui hei quan dog" for "xiasi dog," and the regions those are supposed to originate from are some minor fifteen travel hours apart. Which is a little bit like exchanging a Norwegian buhund for a German schnauzer. A household/farmdog from comparable regions. Right?
We run into this problem pretty often. You've got your chows and your shar peis, but otherwise, not-noble breeds are easily overlooked. Pekingese were "stolen" from the aristocracy so they're novel, our knowledge of Japanese breeds curiously spikes after WW2. You can throw a racism argument and I agree, but let's add a class card as well. How many regional Chinese ratters do FCI recognize?
Our knowledge of dogs is limited by access, language, and curiosity. We have access, arguably, and to an extent we can overcome language barriers. But I'm not sure we're curious enough.
In short, I've got zero to no thoughts about the wui hei quan dog or wuyishan black dog, because I know nothing about it. I would love to have more thoughts. I'd love to hear about regional asian dog breeds and their quirks and their qualms and politics.
whats YOUR thoughts on the wui hei quan dogs?
pls tell me
tell me
#IN MY DEFENSE: ive had an inadvisable amount of that labrador wine. the wine with the lab on it. and i am unwell. coundlt drive a car lol#theres a whole side debacle here abt the regional differences between what your average DOG is#which will change depending on both generation and location#i ran into an issue with a sideblog a little while ago regarding an old newspaper article that listed and pictured quote#'chinese collies'#which by all definitions and by conformation would be - some type of central asian shepherds#and i listed them as CAS#but heres the thing: i dont know#and i dont know where to ask?#i dont know their origin or their modern corresponding iteration#i dont know where they from or what their type suggests#and it does genuinely worry me how my contact network diminishes#i used to have daily easy contact w ppl from Beijing and Shanghai through msn but now I've got? americans and a canadian-#- if i played my cards right.#maybe a hungarian IF IM POLITE#(and im rarely polite)#the point is: the answer is there if you know where to look#but im not sure where to look these days

Your translation gif is amazing thank you so much. It did get me thinking though about if Quỳnh would speak a different or ancient version of her language. I know that in the six months she could’ve caught up to the modern tongue but is there a major difference in eras or is it more like new words were added into the dialect?
Hi anon, I'm glad you find my translation helpful! ^.^
Quỳnh won't have a hard time learning to pronounce all the curse words first, because imagine being drowned, revived, then drowned repeatedly for 500+ yrs, spending every minute worried about Andromaque suffering the same fate, only to find out the love of your life moved on without you? You bet I'd be searching for the language to express the magnitude of my rage too. And what is better than your native tongue, in which pronouns are based on mood/current relationship status? Even if Northern, Central, and Southern Vietnamese pronounce a lot things differently, oftentimes use entirely different words altogether, I'm confident hitting all those tone marks won't be a problem for Quỳnh. Girl probably learns how to curse to her heart's content before she (re)learns write her own name in the new alphabetized writing system, or how to order food like phở (which is a relatively modern food, 19-20th century). If you're curious, Ngô Thanh Vân is from the Southern region of Vietnam, so naturally Quỳnh has Southern Vietnamese accent.
Speaking from personal experiences learning Vietnamese literature (1st-10th grade) in Vietnam, where I had to memorize poems from 10th century all the way to the recent 19 and 20th century. The phonetic pronunciation was the easiest part, I could nail it on the first try, the parts that drive me up the wall were the grammar and words that have long lost its cultural meaning. Some remain, for example, full moon age (tuổi trăng tròn), which is only used to describe girls, it means 15 years old because in the lunar calendar, full moon always falls on the 15th day of the month.
So I can certainly see Quỳnh having similar struggles moving the opposite direction. After all, Viets have a saying "phong ba bão táp không bng ngữ pháp Việt Nam", roughly translated to "whether it is typhoon or wind gust, neither is as scary/dangerous as Vietnamese grammar".
#2o2g#the old guard 2#Quỳnh#Quynh#andromaquynh#northern and southern do follow the tone marks w some minor tone differences#but the tone marks don't matter for central peeps sghshshahaja#if it wasn't for my 3rd teacher from Huế I'd never be able to understand central vietnamese#in Viet school I prefer math because w math you only need to memorize the formulas#meanwhile Vietnamese grammar is 95%: ummm it depends 😭😭😭#Viet li class is scary because wdym every comma/semicolon/emdash recited in the wrong location I lose 2% asdasdas#also Viet literature is DEPRESSING i.e. Lão Hạc. Tắt Đèn. Truyện Kiều.#anon#answered#sorry anon it took so long asdasdasdas

Garden of Eden just has too much filler. Like, you could cut the entire plotline about MC starring in the dorama, and it wouldn't affect anything in the grand scheme of things.
#there was the stylist guy who had like 2 conversation with mc#which were actually relevant to the main mystery#but you could've easily moved the to another location#and it seems like doo-yeong is gonna be relevant in some way#but for the first two seasons he contributed NOTHING to the central plot#romance club#anti garden of eden#rc salt#bitch speaks

what they don't tell you about comics is that you gotta make preproduction
#my art#sketches#destiny conviction#the room design is faith's room which is like. a central location in the story so I should have a super clear reference for it#but AUGHHHHH#interior design........#I'm trying not to add too much personality to Faith's room bc like. I just don't think Faith would.#I think they would feel like they're not allowed to add their own personal touches#it's also deathly clean bc they would feel like they're a bad person if it was messy
