04/09/23 - Fredericksburg, TX - JUST BECAUSE - One of the main reasons we’ve decided to settle down in the Austin area is its central location to our Texas friends and family which means we’ll be able to see our people whenever we want. Take today, we made a quick 90-minute drive through the wildflowers to Fredericksburg for lunch with our son and his family. Why? Just because we felt like it. While we have zero regrets about our almost ten years of the wandering nomad life, it’s kind of nice to just be around for a change. Life is good!

[ Perpetua hummed softly, walking up to Copias bedroom door. He seemed to know where everything was pretty well. ]
Copia....
[ he purred almost devilishly, stepping in. ]
How is the new position?
[ @marks-of-the-evil-1 ]
(Copia didn't immediately look at him, he was standing at his bedroom mirror.)
I don't know. I've started, but I haven't really started, it's all a little crazy.
(He pauses, then turns to face Perpetua. The black and white skull makeup he had been forbidden from touching his entire life was now on his face in the shape of a rat skull. His eyes held an intense look.)
Did you not know Terzo was going to die? Or did you just forget to tell me? It would have been nice to know.

This was going to be a panel of a little comic but I got too invested in drawing minute background details so, here.
#They are having an argument over 1) whether crops can be grown on the moons 2) what - if any - impact does this have on the feasibility#of an afterlife being located on the moons#Brakul is a partial convert to the Imperial Wardi faith but this mostly entails having adopted the seven faced God (and some#other elements of the belief system) into his worldview and participating in expected rites while retaining his central#ancestor veneration practices completely unchanged and mostly prioritized.#This doesn't actually cause much friction in of itself with the big exception being disagreements on the afterlife#Wardi practices surrounding death prioritize proper handling of the corpse and funerary rites in order to get the dead where they#need to be- death is a fraught transition from one state to another. analogous to birth. The role of the living is to get the dead through#this transition (preventing them from being stuck earthbound as earthbound ghosts - which is the Bad afterlife). Once the dead#make it to the moons that's it. They don't really interact with the living. There's plenty of conceptualization of what it's Like#in the lunar lands but the cultural priority is not even slightly on the Logistics of existence there.#Whereas the CORE of religious practice among the Hill Tribes is ancestor veneration - ancestors remain interactive with the living#and require/desire their continual support. They are conceptualized as having earthlike 'lives' where they eat and drink#and grow crops and herd livestock and they need the support of the living (in prayers and offerings) to do so prosperously.#There is a HIGH cultural priority on the logistics of their afterlife and it's self-apparent that the world of the dead needs fertile earth#to support them.#So like bottom line Brakul thinks there's no goddamn way that the moons could support an afterlife (they are described as#barren rock that was flung into the sky during creation and certainly Look that way)#and that the Wardi are just wrong about their afterlife's location. They probably go to the celestial fields (which are located#behind the moons and stars) like everyone else#And Janeys finds this aggravating and doesn't see his fucking point but has developed a nagging concern that Brakul Could be#partly right in that the celestial fields could Maybe exist in addition to the lunar lands.#So like maybe they aren't going to go to the same place when they die?#He's already terrified that he'll be stuck as an earthbound ghost and really doesn't want to be even further separated so#he figures he should make sure he gets himself dead and cremated at the same time as Brakul so they can navigate the#transitional period together.#Brakul is unconcerned because he figures that if Janeys actually does get stuck on those barren ass moons he can just kinda#Go Get Him#Ancestor spirits fly to the earth all the time and the moons would be a much shorter distance. Probably wouldn't be an issue.#Long story short these disagreements and underlying anxieties result in fights over whether you can grow corn on the moons or nah

Today on Posts That Will Serve As A Blocklist but whatever:
It's genuinely at the point where people who act all dismissive and superior about the Star Wars animated series, and ESPECIALLY of Ahsoka specifically as a character--snidely dismissing anything that involves TCW-original characters or arcs--are just. Objectively hysterically wrong.
Like.
Phantom Menace released in 1999.
Revenge of the Sith was six years later, in 2005.
TCW started airing in 2008. Ahsoka started existing in the narrative literally three years after RotS dropped.
Even if you start counting as far back as you possibly can, back in TPM (wherein Anakin was an actual baby), the prequel era only existed at all without her for nine years.
Ahsoka Tano has been a narratively significant, load-bearing major protagonist of the Star Wars franchise for, as of this post, sixteen (16) years. Very nearly twice as long as her era ever existed without her! At this point, if you are determined to act like she's some handwavey 'new' star war idea whose impact on the living tapestry of the GFFA can be easily dismissed, that's...
...like, full offense but that's kind of on you, man.

What’s your thoughts on wui hei quan dogs?
This response is going to derail.
My thoughts about any and all non-western breeds are that English (or Norwegian, which are inevitably translated from English) sources are rubbish, and the current media environment makes it near-impossible to search for anything.
This isn't new. This is western dog fancy.
My search engines will organize my location-based results over the things i actually write in the search field. My English-language and Latin-alphabet search results will inevitably land me search results in English.
Which means that from my scope, the wui hei quan dog could be anything from a fabricated tiktok trend featuring a black "chow" puppy to a genuine heavily pigmented regional breed of Chinese farmdog ("garden dog" but I've been around this translation block before, i c u). I'm tempted to lean toward the latter, just because the google search results want me to exchange "wui hei quan dog" for "xiasi dog," and the regions those are supposed to originate from are some minor fifteen travel hours apart. Which is a little bit like exchanging a Norwegian buhund for a German schnauzer. A household/farmdog from comparable regions. Right?
We run into this problem pretty often. You've got your chows and your shar peis, but otherwise, not-noble breeds are easily overlooked. Pekingese were "stolen" from the aristocracy so they're novel, our knowledge of Japanese breeds curiously spikes after WW2. You can throw a racism argument and I agree, but let's add a class card as well. How many regional Chinese ratters do FCI recognize?
Our knowledge of dogs is limited by access, language, and curiosity. We have access, arguably, and to an extent we can overcome language barriers. But I'm not sure we're curious enough.
In short, I've got zero to no thoughts about the wui hei quan dog or wuyishan black dog, because I know nothing about it. I would love to have more thoughts. I'd love to hear about regional asian dog breeds and their quirks and their qualms and politics.
whats YOUR thoughts on the wui hei quan dogs?
pls tell me

Your translation gif is amazing thank you so much. It did get me thinking though about if Quỳnh would speak a different or ancient version of her language. I know that in the six months she could’ve caught up to the modern tongue but is there a major difference in eras or is it more like new words were added into the dialect?
Hi anon, I'm glad you find my translation helpful! ^.^
Quỳnh won't have a hard time learning to pronounce all the curse words first, because imagine being drowned, revived, then drowned repeatedly for 500+ yrs, spending every minute worried about Andromaque suffering the same fate, only to find out the love of your life moved on without you? You bet I'd be searching for the language to express the magnitude of my rage too. And what is better than your native tongue, in which pronouns are based on mood/current relationship status? Even if Northern, Central, and Southern Vietnamese pronounce a lot things differently, oftentimes use entirely different words altogether, I'm confident hitting all those tone marks won't be a problem for Quỳnh. Girl probably learns how to curse to her heart's content before she (re)learns write her own name in the new alphabetized writing system, or how to order food like phở (which is a relatively modern food, 19-20th century). If you're curious, Ngô Thanh Vân is from the Southern region of Vietnam, so naturally Quỳnh has Southern Vietnamese accent.
Speaking from personal experiences learning Vietnamese literature (1st-10th grade) in Vietnam, where I had to memorize poems from 10th century all the way to the recent 19 and 20th century. The phonetic pronunciation was the easiest part, I could nail it on the first try, the parts that drive me up the wall were the grammar and words that have long lost its cultural meaning. Some remain, for example, full moon age (tuổi trăng tròn), which is only used to describe girls, it means 15 years old because in the lunar calendar, full moon always falls on the 15th day of the month.
So I can certainly see Quỳnh having similar struggles moving the opposite direction. After all, Viets have a saying "phong ba bão táp không bng ngữ pháp Việt Nam", roughly translated to "whether it is typhoon or wind gust, neither is as scary/dangerous as Vietnamese grammar".

Garden of Eden just has too much filler. Like, you could cut the entire plotline about MC starring in the dorama, and it wouldn't affect anything in the grand scheme of things.
