Ladies and gentlemen, i am displeased to announce, my job is officially so short-staffed that some weeks I have to spend 20 out of 40 hours in decontamination. Lol. Lmao even.
Anyways just endured one of the most brutal shifts I’ve ever had the misfortune of being stuck with. (10 hour decon shifts should NOT be allowed) And this was the second day this week I got to do it this week! Yay! That’s not supposed to happen btw! My back is wrecked and I am completely emotionally sapped bc decon was so atrocious.
Don’t know what I’m talking about? Allow me to explain! I do Sterile Processing for a job, and decontamination is one of the main job processes you can be assigned to in a day. Imagine you’re a dish washer. But you are standing in a 75 degree room with no windows. It’s humid as hell. You are coated head to toe in plastic and rubber. You are shrimp postured over the sink. You are scrubbing. And scrubbing. But it’s not dishes. It’s surgical tools. There are bodily fluids everywhere. There are carts and carts and carts of stuff for you to clean. The operating room keeps giving you more to do. Third party vendors are bringing you more stuff to clean. They say it’s urgent. They need all 30 in the next 3 hours. It’s not possible. But you must do it. Dear god you’re thirsty.
This is the average decon experience (at least for me) ((i need a new career))
Please please please don’t make me do 2 days in decon again. Please
#If this doesn’t sound that bad to u pls keep it to urself. i know there’s probably worse out there#but this is so awful to me#get me OUT of the medical field!!!#sterile processing#central sterile#central processing

okay so i was thinking of a joke earlier about how in DPDC Amity Park's slogan "a great place to live" is not only city propaganda but also the city lording it over the rest of America for being normal. But then I remembered that, despite how many DCU Cities with heroes in it there are, the amount of cities in America without heroes still far outnumber the amount of cities in America WITH heroes.
So I did a little digging so the joke would still land. Something most heroes have in common is that they operate in major cities. What makes a major city? I found that the general consensus is that the population is roughly over or around a million. THEN I looked up the populations of cities in the DCU that I thought of off the top of my head. So Gotham, Metropolis, Starling City, Central City, Jump City. All of them ranked up to millions in population (most of them were in the tens of millions).
Amity Park's wikipedia describes it as being similar to specifically Philadelphia, Chicago, and San Francisco.
Philadelphia's Population: 1.576 million as of 2021 Chicago's Population: 2.697 million as of 2021 San Francisco: 815,201 as of 2021
Whiiich means that Amity Park if we take that from canon, is probably a major city. There are approximately 19,000 cities in America with probably less than a hundred that are major cities. Adding the DCU major cities wouldn't skew the data too much.
Which MEANS that I can make the joke that Amity Park's "great place to live" is not only just typical city propaganda, but also its Amity Park lording it over the other major cities for being one of the only major cities that doesn't have problems bad enough to warrant a superhero or a vigilante. Cue stage left the Fentons and Phantom :)
Amity Parkers were probably SO proud that they didn't need a superhero. They didn't have to worry about things like 'world ending threats' and 'super-powered individuals' and 'staggering property damage'. And then enter Fentons.
It also could be used as an excuse for why nobody took notice to Amity Park getting ghosts if folks like me aren't huge fans of the notion of a media blackout via Tucker, Technus, or the US Government. Or if you want to keep Amity Park as its urban city self. Amity Park's news on ghosts gets drowned out in a week because there's news on more popular, well-known cities going on every other day. The shit going on in Amity Park is every other major city's regular Tuesday and it gets filtered as such.
#dp x dc#dp x dc crossover#dpxdc#dpdc#plus amity suddenly going 'we have ghosts' could be seen as a case of city-wide FOMO finally hitting so nobody believes them#and thats if the belief of ghosts not being real is as strong as it is in dp canon#the media blackout could also be /city-induced/ too#where amity parkers are so proud of being 'normal' and 'not having superheros' that many of them try and deny the existence of Phantom#and the mayor and news sources themselves just. stubbornly refuse to let news of ghosts get out to the other cities#do you know how much shit they'll get?? they'll be a laughingstock!#gothamites would never leave them alone. neither would central city or the metropolitans or starling city or--#the other big cities will make fun of them :(#my new favorite hc that stemmed from this is that every major city in the dcu is rivaling with each other#there's a lot you can experiment with this idea imo lmao#this whole post sums up my writing and thinking process pr well tbh#this stemmed because im making a childhood friends au short story doc and wanted to avoid the typical tropes about how AP went undetected#from the rest of the US. bc. im not a fan of the media blackout idea via tucker/technus/gov and i wanted to keep AP an urban city#so i had to come up with something else#hence me looking into DCU cities and how many there are and realizing that there is a decent amount of other cities other than the main#popular ones and being DELIGHTED because then i could use that as an excuse for why amity went overlooked. bc there are many cities with#heroes in it. so its not surprising if another city gets a hero TOO. plus the news also focusing on more popular heroes and cities so again#the news of amity getting a hero gets drowned out by whatever new thing the JL or someone from the JL did that week

Steven Beschloss at America, America:
On January 20, Donald Trump mouthed the presidential oath of office to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” That promise would include the protection and defense of the Fifth Amendment, which states that no one shall be "deprived of life, liberty or property without due process of law.” Yesterday Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen appeared on Fox News Sunday to stress how central civil liberty is to the case of Kilmar Ábrego García, who was taken to El Salvador without due process is being held hostage there in its notorious, traumatizing mega-prison. without due process. "I'm not vouching for the man,” said Van Hollen, who met Ábrego García on Thursday. “I'm vouching for the man's rights. His constitutional right to due process." And then he explained why this is so important, not just for Ábrego García, but for everyone living in America,. “My whole point here is if you deprive one man of his constitutional rights, you threaten the constitutional rights of everybody,” he said. And “if you threaten the rule of law for one person, you threaten if for everybody in America."
Meanwhile, the man who uttered the oath to protect our Constitution spent his weekend expanding his fabrications about Ábrego García—determined to persuade the court of public opinion why this allegedly heinous criminal does not deserve due process and fundamental civil liberties. On Saturday, he posted an obviously fabricated photo of a hand with tattoos and, in what looks like a cheap photoshop job, the letters and numbers of the Venezuelan gang on his knuckles: MS-13. “I was elected to take bad people out of the United States,” Trump wrote, mocking the idea that Ábrego García is “such a fine and innocent person.” Yesterday, on Easter Sunday, Trump continued his poisonous diatribe meant to underscore how right he is to keep Ábrego García and others in a foreign gulag. “Happy Easter to all, including the Radical Left Lunatics who are fighting and scheming so hard to bring Murderers, Drug Lords, Dangerous Prisoners, the Mentally Insane, and well known MS-13 Gang Members and Wife Beaters, back into our Country,” he lied.
If Trump were so sure of Ábrego García’s guilt, it would make logical sense that he would support returning the Maryland man to the U.S. and to the judgement of U.S. courts after the government made its case. But not only has Trump worked aggressively to undermine the legitimacy of our court system and flout its rulings, he has worked even more intensely to undermine the capacity of millions of Americans to know what is true and false and to believe his lies over verifiable, evidence-based facts. Remarkably, in an unusually swift order delivered in the middle of the night Saturday, the Supreme Court blocked additional deportations likely headed for the same El Salvador prison without judicial review. This followed an emergency request from the American Civil Liberties Union for the Court to intervene.
[...] As Reagan-appointed Circuit Court Judge J. Harvie Wilkinson III vividly put it Thursday, concerning the government’s responsibility to facilitate Ábrego García’s return, “If today the Executive claims the right to deport without due process and in disregard of court orders, what assurance will there be tomorrow that it will not deport American citizens and then disclaim responsibility to bring them home?”
Permit me to rewind over three decades, to 1989, when real estate developer Trump made clear the depth of his hatefulness toward minorities, his sadistic desire to mete out deadly punishment and his belief in his own judgement over the value of civil liberties. That was when he paid for a full-page advertisement in The New York Times to rant about the failure of the judicial system and the need to reinstate capital punishment to execute the five Black and Hispanic teenagers known as the Central Park Five alleged to have brutally beaten and raped a white woman who was jogging in Central Park. “Bring Back The Death Penalty,” the headline screamed. “Bring Back our Police!” “How can our great society tolerate the continued brutalization of its citizens by crazed misfits?” the text implored. “Criminals must be told that their CIVIL LIBERTIES END WHEN AN ATTACK ON OUR SAFETY BEGINS!” And in a chilling precursor of what was to come from this hateful, unchanged man, he rejected then-New York Mayor Ed Koch’s urging to not respond to the murder with “hate and rancor.” Nope, not for Trump. “I want to hate these muggers and murderers,” he wrote. “They should be forced to suffer and, when they kill, they should be executed for their crimes. They must serve as examples so that others will think long and hard before committing a crime or an act of violence…I am not looking to psychoanalyze them or understand them. I am looking to punish them.”
This Steven Beschloss column on due process and Kilmar Ábrego García is a solid one.

my autistic ass contemplating the need for a fridge with this damn hum burning a permanent hole in my brain.
i just wanna do schoolwork in peace. i just wanna read and write and do a god damn thing without it's constant fuckery and not needing music or headphones because those get bothersome after a while and add to the sensory overwhelm.
in conclusion: revisiting the living in the middle of nowhere fantasy daily again, that way at least i can run outside to silence/nature noises if im bothered, unlike now where it's just... cars. how bout you?

Worlds #1 complainer about "dog motif" fans accidentally makes story with extremely central, predominant even, dog motif
#I wasn't thinking of it that way because it's like. For lack of a more appropriate word diagetic?#Like it's not invoked symbolically in the narrative or just with association it like. Involves actual dogs and the in-universe culture's#view on dogs. Rather than dog imagery to represent like Loyalty or Devotion or etc#The biggest underlying theme is kind of the human/animal relationship and animals as means of externalizing human states#cultural desires and fears etc etc etc#And in-universe dogs have a very complicated place in this cultural context where they tread the thinnest of lines between#being noble loyal valuable animals and unclean lowly despised scavengers. Both are the same animal and it all depends on the#role they play. And then this divide is narrowing in the context of a famine where the dog becomes competition#for food/consumer of the dead/possible desperation food source itself and one that contaminates the consumer in the process#Street dogs as kind of the ultimate representation of cultural anxieties of enemies infiltrating from within and without#despised elements of the culture that are omnipresent nonetheless etc etc etc etc#And then a cast of main characters where ALL of them in very different capacities are balancing a delicate line of trying their#best to play roles to remain in the 'valued' category and not fall into the 'despised'. Some doing better than others or having#more privileged places in this dynamic than others but all under tremendous strain from it#In a condensed high pressure panopticon setting of a pilgrimage/war party surrounded by like some of the highest#members of the social elite/literal royalty/etc#And anyway bottom line EXTREMELY central 'dog motif' going on here literally every main character interacts with a#'dog motif' in some capacity . Failed fucking step 1

Gavle goat plushie progress! My initial draft of the body pattern wasn't going to work, so I redrew it, and now I have one leg sewn (for proof of concept and to compare sizing), the body pieces cut out, and just need to sew the other three legs before I can sew the body together. Once I have the body and legs together, I'll tackle drafting the head and neck patterns. The horns will be the last pattern I draft, because I could do a bunch of math to try to figure out how long they should be, or I could wait until I've sewn the rest and hold up some paper in the gap where they should be and draw the pattern on the paper, and one of those is much easier lol
#the person behind the yarn#sometimes the pattern making process involves sewing the central piece of the plushie and THEN drafting the rest of the pattern#the goat is going to be a little smaller than I originally intended#but all the individual pattern pieces should fit onto regular printer paper#so it shouldn't be too tricky to share#it will involve a fair amount of handsewing though#well okay one piece absolutely won't fit on printer paper#but it's just a long rectangle so I can just give the measurements for that piece
