Part one (first half) of my Lisa Frankenstein au is up! Features Blue as Lisa, Noah as The Creature, Orla as Taffy, Henry as Michael. Maura and Gansey have passed away before the story and Blue is grieving them.
“There was one grave which wasn’t like the others. There was a name “Noah” inscribed on it, but no last name, no date, nothing else at all. Built on top of the headstone was the statue of a young man. Hia face was thin, sparse, with wide set eyes. Something about the statue called to Blue. Perhaps it was the unmarkedness of the grave, perhaps it was the idea that this boy could have lived a hundred lives Blue would know nothing about. Maybe it was simply that he was here when the boy she had loved was not. Blue tended to his grave whenever possible, leaving him lilies or one time, a pair of her mother’s earrings.
“They’re Turkish eyes,” said Blue. “They’re supposed to protect you. But I feel kind of sick whenever I wear them. And since your grave doesn’t have protections on it, I thought you should have them. And Maura – I called my Mom by her first name, she always wanted me to feel like she was a peer – she’d want you to have them, I think. Because you're alone and she never thought anyone should be alone. And because you help me.” She’d smiled, and turned away from the grave, ready to head back home before it was too dark out.
Now, Blue crouched in front of the statue. Not to pray, she hadn’t been raised to be religious. Just to wish. “I wish I was with you.” She let the tears fall finally, now that no one could see her, now that they would only mix with the rain.”

Brother's at Odds
- In which Tim confronts Dick about his past actions. It goes about as well as you'd think.
Yet another rough draft fic that I never finished and left to rot in my docs. Enjoy.
══════════════════════
Somewhere between Dick's attempts to reassure Tim and Tim's clear declaration that he wanted nothing to do with him outside of their vigilante duties, the audacity of the older man infuriated him. How could Dick act as if the last time Tim up and left was somehow not his fault?
“Tim, come on,” Dick urged, his voice a mix of desperation and frustration, but Tim turned away, determined to walk off and leave the conversation behind him. He felt the tension coiling tighter in his chest with every step he took. Just as he thought he could escape, Dick's words cut through the air, landing with a heavy thud.
“Don’t do this, don’t walk out on us again; we're a team. Let me help—”
Tim snapped, spinning around to face him, fury igniting his expression. “Help?” he scoffs. “Is that what you're calling it now?” The hurt reflected in Dick's expression is lost on Tim even as he continues his verbal lashing. “You think you can ‘swoop in’ like nothing ever happened? That you can play your role as ‘big brother’ whenever it's convenient for you?” The raw emotion in his voice echoed in the space between them as even now, Tim is still trying to make sense of his brother's thought process and the weight of Dick's misplaced intentions until eventually he realizes that not even that matters now. Nothing will save what's left of this broken family.
The anger boiling inside him threatened to overflow, fueled by mixed memories of betrayal and disappointments of a time long since past. He lashed out, his voice trembling bitterly as he confronted the man he had once seen as an older brother.
Not anymore.
Dick had ruined that prospect many times over, and stupidly Tim forgave him each time because that's what family is supposed to do, right?
Wrong.
He'd stupidly let him in and allowed himself to get hurt the moment he'd been shoved to the side like a stranger—a mere passerby on the street rather than someone of any significance to anyone else.
The bridge between them wasn’t just broken; it was a smoldering wreck, engulfed in flames, its remnants reduced to ash and char.
“You turned your back on me, not the other way around!” He shouted, his voice echoing heavily in the silence, one hand pressed flat against his chest to emphasize his being in this world, lest the other be so quick to forget. “If you're so hellbent on getting my attention, well, now you’ve got it. So what is it? What else could you possibly want from me?” Incredulity is the only thing fueling him at this point, with Tim continuing to gode Dick for some kind of response, a chance to finally speak his mind.
“Go on. I'm listening.” Tim waits now, leaning forward and clasping his hands with his elbows pressed against a work desk. He actually pauses too, and when Dick does nothing but gape at him like a fish out of water, Tim is laying into him once again, signature Janet Drake scowl etched into his features like it's just an everyday expression. “Oh, don't clam up now; you seemed so eager to talk, so let's talk.”
Again, he was met with silence, but this time it felt suffocating—so thick that even the bats in the cave dared not to chirp. Tim let out a laugh, a sharp, hollow sound that echoed off the stone walls. ‘Really,’ he thought, ‘isn’t this just so funny?’
But the laughter dropped away almost immediately, replaced by a bitter chill that settled in his chest. Pushing himself off the desk, he moved closer to Dick, determination fueling his steps. “Here’s what I think,” he said, leaning in just enough to ensure the older man could hear him clearly, the tension between them palpable. “I think you’re a hypocrite.”
He watched Dick’s expression shift slightly, but he pressed on. “I think that despite your constant preaching about how we all need to get along and be this big happy family that you seem to want so badly—for all of that? You don’t actually care.” Tim’s words hang in the air, a simple shrug, but they don't cease. “Why would you?”
“You’re selfish, Dick.”
The words were laden with accusation as Tim’s voice fluctuated throughout the cave. “All you do is take and take, and when there’s even the slightest pushback, you fall into this state of tunnel vision. You don’t consider anyone else’s feelings; you just do what you think is right, even when it’s bound to hurt someone else. At least you get your way, right?”
His tone dripped with scorn, the words spilling out like a torrent of pent-up resentment while giving Dick no room for denial. The air crackled with tension as he stood there, waiting for Dick’s response. When all he received was a put-off gaze, Tim pressed onward. It was his turn to speak now, and by God was he going to use it.
“I needed you, you know? I needed you, and you weren't there.”
“Tim,” comes his brother's attempt at protest, only for the younger to cut him off with a scowl.
“I came to you for help…and you know what I got in return? You tossing me aside after threatening to send me away to the loony bin. So tell me, where did that care for my well-being start exactly?” Each reflection on his past actions felt like a dagger aimed straight at the heart for Dick. A gnawing feeling that there would be no coming back from this. Not this time.
“Where the hell was your care when you looked me dead in the eyes and told me he—” Tim’s finger jabbed toward his supposed little brother, Damian, who stood a few feet back, deliberately avoiding eye contact and maybe even the entirety of the confrontation since it had all come to a head long after coming back from a late patrol.
“Needed you more because he was just a kid hurting for guidance? I’m seventeen, Dick, seventeen! The only guidance I had was a mentor I dragged back from the so-called dead, but you brushed that off like it was so unimportant. Like you couldn't care less.”
His voice crescendoed, his face screwed up with the effort of his outburst, echoing in the cave’s oppressive silence. “I’m just a kid too!” The weight of his words hang heavy in the air, demanding recognition and understanding.
“I am—!” he yelled again, his voice cracking now due to all the mounting distress he'd only let himself feel until now. “So where’s your excuse now? After everything, you want to sit here and bullshit your way back into my life like you didn’t do a goddamn thing? Like you're entitled to my time?”
Tim scoffed, incredulous. It was astonishing how Dick had managed to stay silent long enough for him to vent his frustrations. When Tim turned his gaze to his brother, he was met with a look of saddened resignation. But that remorse felt empty; there was no real action or effort to back it up. The sight only ignited Tim’s irritation with his older brother further, but instead of lashing out again, his fury seemed to deflate, leaving behind a hollow ache.
His expression shifted to something so lifeless that it was almost haunting. Gone was the fire of his anger, replaced by a profound exhaustion that seeped into his bones. He felt utterly spent, as if the weight of the world rested on his shoulders.
“I’m so tired I can’t even look at you,” he said even as exhaustion pulled like shackles and chains, weighing him down as obvious as the droop in his shoulders. “Just… stay away from me. You weren't worried those three months I was missing—don’t start trying to concern yourself now after everything is already over.” It's the kind of finality that offers no room for protest, and Dick makes no attempt to even as he observes how his little brother just walks away from him to sit at the bat computer without another word.

idk if this is me being an idiot and rambling but what if Janet’s key is her lab coat? idk if I’m remembering right but didn’t Maddie find Janet’s lab coat in what we now know is Mr Martin’s scar earlier in the season, like in the 2x07 flashbacks with Mr Martin forcing Janet into the scar, we see he kept his watch outside of it but if her key could be her lab coat, what if he put it in his scar which he made sure she couldn’t access so that she couldn’t escape or pass on?
when Janet talks about her experience with the scar, she mentions that she doesn’t see the charred walls or the woman that Maddie sees when she uses the watch, of course leading to the conclusion that it’s Mr Martin’s scar, but Janet also doesn’t mention seeing the lab coat - the one thing we know has a strong possibility of being her key besides the key is a person thing that Yuri mentions - which to me is either an intentional omission or something not important though I feel like that contradicts the significance of the lab coat to Janet not only because of it’s personal value to her like the embroidery of her name, but also what it represents - her future.
anyways idk if this is me being hyperfixated on this show or what but I hope this made sense 😭

a peça é rocky horror picture show e a distribuição de personagens estará logo abaixo

Film Reel and the DJD vs. Earth's Mightiest Heros (NSFW)
WARNINGS: Descriptions of murder and torture, major character death, forced voyeurism, and sticky sexual interfacing.
<<Proceed with caution>>
"Humans of Earth, not long ago, a ship landed here, obviously not one of Terran origin." Tarn proclaimed. "Inside was a traitor to our cause. Turn them over, or we will be forced to use more of our... desirable methods." The human army stood their ground before the leader ordered the gunners to aim and fire at the DJD. The bullets bounced uselessly against their thick plating. Even the higher caliber weapons did little to deter the Decepticons.
"Shall we?" Kaon asked, not impressed by the humans' efforts.
"Indeed." Tarn replied. He aimed his double fusion cannon and fired at the organics, watching as they tried to scatter away from the blast. Film Reel watched in morbid fascination as the smoke cleared, revealing tons of little charred organic corpses. Using her built-in camera, she zoomed in on the carnage.
"I will not ask again." Tarn warned. Film Reel turned back to her leader.
"You won't have to." A voice rang out. An armored suit descended from the sky. Despite the outward appearance, Film Reel could tell there was a human inside. "Because we're going to stop you from hurting anyone else." Tarn began to chuckle. It was a deep, rumbling sound that caused the other DJD members to take a slight step back.
"Make me." He said, voice low and dangerous. Something green leaped upon Tesarus, who snatched it up in his larger arms. The beast struggled, but to no avail.
"This one has enhanced strength." Tess said with a grin. "An admirable attempt to escape. But alas, no success." There was a loud, pained roar as Tesarus lowered the large green beast into his grinder. Gore splattered everywhere as it crushed and ground flesh and bone with no effort at all.
"No!" The humans screamed in unison. In anger, Iron-Man powered up his arc reactor and fired a large beam towards Tesarus, but Film Reel leaped in the way. The blast knocked her to the ground, her chassis smoking. There was a hole left behind from the attack, and pink energon spilled from the wound. The Pet leaped over her, snarling angrily and catching Iron-Man in its jaws before he had time to react. The turbofox bit down, crushing him as if he were nothing. Blood began seeping out of the armor's seams.
As Film tried to get to her pedes, her proximity sensors picked something up right in front of her. As if reacting to instinct, she clapped her servos together, feeling something crunch. Opening them. She saw a tiny human, much much smaller than the others. Its body was now contorted in a sickening way, blood staining Film Reel's digits.
"Janet!" A human in red suddenly began to grow, towering at the same height as Tesarus. Kaon released a shock of energy that struck the man. The human's body smoked as the smell of burning flesh filled the air before he collapsed with a heavy thud, convulsing violently. Kaon was about to blast him again when something heavy fell from the sky, knocking him down.
Thunder boomed as storm clouds began rolling in. Lightning flashed across the sky before being attracted to Kaon's tesla coils. The lightning only powered him up more. A man seemingly fell from the sky, knocking Kaon to the ground, much to everyone's surprise.
"How dare thee?" Thor yelled. He raised his hammer to strike Kaon. Both Film and the Pet rushed over. The minibot grabbed the human's arm, almost ripping it off his body as the Pet grabbed Thor's torso. The Pet threw the man down, feeling that the human was a lot more durable than Iron-Man. Helex grabbed him before dropping Thor into his smelter, turning the heat up. Thor's body began to burn and melt almost instantly.
"If no one else wants to die," Tarn warned, "I suggest you surrender and turn in the traitor."
"We don't know who you're talking about!" The one in blue said, practically pleading for them to stop the carnage that had killed his friends. Tarn looked down at him.
"I guess there is no point in sparing any of your lives, then." He said. "However..." There was a slight pause as he looked over at Film Reel, who was clutching her chassis.
"Vos, open the ground bridge." Tarn said into his comms device. Blue light enveloped the group before the light disappeared, taking the DJD and what was left of the Avengers with it.
"You're lucky no internal components were damaged!" Nickel said as she finished patching the hole in Film Reel's chassis. "I don't know what he was thinking! Bringing you to the battlefield… you could have gotten more severely injured!"
"S-Sorry, ma'am." Film Reel replied sheepishly. She avoided Nickel's intense gaze. The nurse ex-vented.
"At least you're okay now." Nickel said. "Now get some rest while I have a word with Tarn." Film Reel waited for her to leave before hopping off the berth. After checking that the coast was clear, she snuck out of the medibay. Normally, she would have followed orders, but she wanted to see the prisoners before the DJD handled them. And she wanted an excuse to get away from Nickel's wrath.
Film Reel snuck down to the holding cell where they were keeping the human prisoners. She looked at them. There was only a handful left intact. The rest were either dead or dying. Film Reel was in awe at the resilience of the humans. The Hulk, who had been partially ground up, was still alive but much smaller than before. The charred body of Thor was finally still after having his head bitten off by Helex. Tony, having been crushed and broken by the Pet, was dead. The Wasp had been killed by Film Reel, and Ant-Man was barely hanging in there after Kaon shocked him
"Why are you doing this?" Steve asked. "We told you the truth! We don't know anything." Film Reel was also slightly confused as to why they were brought aboard the Peaceful Tyranny in the first place.
"Let us go!" Hawkeye snapped.
"I don’t know why you're alive." Film Reel confessed. "Has Master Tarn not told you yet?" She tilted her head. Perhaps her leader had something big planned.
"Film Reel!" The blue and white minicon nearly leaped out of her frame. "What have I told you about running off?" Nickel rolled up to her.
"And here I was, thinking you were the only one to have some common sense to at least care about your physical health!" The teal minicon nurse put her servos on her hips. "And don't start with the whole 'but I'm alright, now' slag! I get enough of that from Tarn." Film Reel glanced around nervously, trying to think of a good excuse.
"I... was-" -scared of you, she finished in her head. She was not going to say it out loud.
"She is here upon my request." Kaon stepped out of the shadows. "Tarn needs her for a while." The nurse narrowed her optics, wondering if Kaon was telling the truth. In the end, it didn't really matter too much.
"Fine…" Nickel huffed, "but you better make sure she gets proper recharge, Kaon!" She stormed away.
"Are you doing alright? I'm sorry you got hurt in the fight." Kaon turned his helm in her direction.
"I am alright, sir." She replied. Kaon placed a servo gently on her helm.
"I am glad. The Pet and I were very worried." Despite his lack of optics, Film Reel could see that he was genuine with his concern. He turned to the humans.
"Only 4 remain intact." He said with a smirk. "That should be enough to have fun with." He looked to Film again.
"If you are feeling well enough, Tarn would like you to help with the torture this time." Kaon lifted her chin. "Would you like that?" Film Reel nodded, feeling excited. Kaon chuckled.
"Oh, you're going to have fun." He whispered in her audial, causing a shiver to run up her body. "Let's bring the prisoners to the main deck so we can get started."
"You might be wondering why you're still here." Tarn said, looking at the humans from the prison. There was another cage of humans, many of which were part of the army that had greeted them upon their arrival. "You injured a valuable member of our team, and we can not let that slide."
"However, torture is too easy, so we'll try something else." Tarn was smiling behind his mask. "I am going to give you one task, and perhaps you may live just a bit longer." He said.
"Don't worry, it's nothing too difficult. All you have to do is not look away."
"What happens if we do?" Natasha asked. Tarn gestured to the other humans. Kaon picked one up and threw it to the Pet, who eagerly tore it to bits.
"Does that answer your question?" Tarn asked. The remaining Avengers stared in horror. He turned to Film Reel. She had been waiting patiently for orders.
"It's your turn, little one." He almost purred. "You won't need your camera for this." She yelped in surprise whenTesarus picked her up.
"Open up your panel, Film Reel." Tesarus whispered. "It's time for a reward."
Film Reel whimpered in Tesarus's grasp. He held her legs open with his smaller servos while his large ones clutched her frame. Kaon was positioned in front of her valve, his glossa lapping at her core and sensitive node, preparing her for what was to come. Little shocks of electricity shot through her as his digits skillfully worked her valve, causing her to cry out softly. Behind Kaon, she could see the humans trying to avoid her gaze, but they didn't have much of a choice. If one of them turns away, another random human would be killed.
Another shock from Kaon's digits ran through her frame. Film Reel cried out as she overloaded, her cooling fans on full blast. Kaon pulled back with a smirk. His digits slick with her lubricant.
"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿" Vos asked. He was getting impatient.
"Yes, she appears to be ready." Tarn said. Tesarus set Film down onto her servos and knees. Tarn knelt in front of her while Vos positioned himself behind her, whispering something in Primal Vernacular.
"How does it feel," Tarn asked, "to be watched by humans as you get fragged?" He lifted her chin so she could look at him just as Vos plunged his spike into her. Film Reel let out a grunting moan in surprise, lurching forward slightly. Tarn chuckled, placing a clawed servo on her head before standing up and turning to the prisoners.
"Your life expectancy will be determined by our sweet Film Reel here." Tarn said. "The longer she is conscious, the longer you live."
"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"
"Let's not end the fun too soon, Vos." Tarn said. Vos let out a gravelly chuckle before he leaned forward.
"So tight." He hissed in her audial. He pushed her front down as he continued to pound into her. It was a rough pace, but not uncommon for the small 'con. He gripped onto one of her shoulders while his other servo dug into the back of her neck cabling. He pressed her down harder, causing her visor to crack ever so slightly on the ground as he overloaded with a gargling snarl. His transfluid dripped from her valve as he took a step back to admire his work, closing his interface panel.
"Aw, Vos, you didn't let her finish." Helex cooed.
"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿" Vos replied before walking out of the room.
Kaon picked her up, laying her chassis down on the table next to where the humans' cage sat. She could see their disgusted expression. Film Reel ignored them as she held her servos out to Helex.
"May I, sir?" Helex didn't need to be asked twice. He stood in front of her as he opened his panel, his large spike landing in Film Reel's waiting servos. She rubbed the appendage, knowing exactly where to stroke and squeeze to get the reaction she wanted. He and Tesarus were much too big for her valve, but they made do with her small servos.
She tried to stifle a moan as Kaon pushed into her, grabbing her hips as she continued rubbing Helex's spike, practically purring in pleasure as Kaon's larger spike stretched her close to her limit. Having been left hanging by Vos, she overloaded quickly, but Kaon didn't stop. Instead, he went harder. He loved overstimulating her. Film whimpered as Kaon sent another small shock through her as he ran a digit over the seams in her plating. She tried to focus on Helex, who was beginning to grind in her servos, the tip of his weeping spike bumping into her mask.
"Why are you making us watch this?" T'Challa asked. "To prove how sick you already are?"
"That is quite the question." Tarn said. "No. It's been a while since Film Reel had been rewarded for her work. We just wanted to make a game out of it." Tarn leaned forward, right to her audial.
"You like this, don't you? You like being on display; showing people who you belong to." A small cry emanated from Film Reel. Tarn was able to use his voice in many different ways. He could literally talk people to death. His voice could shut off a processor, fade a spark... and much more. He liked using his outlier ability on her. It caused a stronger overload to hit her. She let out a shuttering moan just as Helex released his load onto her faceplate. He knelt, using a thick digit to wipe the glowing substance off her visor.
"Good girl." He could see Film's visor begin to flicker. "She already looks about ready to pass out." He chuckled.
"So soon?" Kaon asked. He slammed his spike deep into her. Coolant began leaking from her visor at the intense pressure as he released his transfluid when her valve clenched tightly around his spike. He pulled out before gently pulling her to his chest, wiping the remaining transfluid from her faceplate. "How about one more? For Tarn?" Film Reel looked up at the boss. He stared at her.
"If you would like to stop, we can. It would give the prisoners a little more time to live." His voice was smooth, almost making her overload just by hearing it. She shook her head.
"I want you, M-Master Tarn." She whispered. Tarn chuckled, gently picking her up and setting her on his lap as he sat in front of the cage of humans. His interface panel opened, his spike already pressurized and leaking. Film Reel loved the look of him and couldn't help herself from gently running her digits over it. Tarn didn’t protest and began rubbing his spike against her valve's outer mesh to lube himself up. He was more gentle than Vos and Kaon, slowly pushing into her. He held her tightly in place as he thrust upwards. She was a whimpering mess. Tarn couldn't fully sheath himself into her, but his girth stretched her beyond her comfortable limit. Film Reel didn't mind. Her visor flickered as his claws ran over the seams near her neck.
"You're being so good for me, little femme." He whispered. "You take me so well."
The pleasure was too much. Tarn's voice and slow hard thrusts, the overstimulation, the praise... It was a lot for her to handle. Her helm lolled back against Tarn's chassis, crying out when another intense overload hit her. Her body shuddered violently before going limp, panting hard. The last thing she saw was Tarn's masked face staring down at her before she fell offline.

Hi I read your tags and I’m glad someone agrees with me about Blue and Lisa being similar! I’m actually thinking about writing an au where Blue is Lisa and Noah is the Creature, Orla as Taffy like you said, possibly Henry as Lit Mag bro? Was thinking I could make Neeve the Janet / have her be Orla’s mom instead of Jimmi and it could play off themes similar to Blue in BLLB when she’s dealing with feeling abandoned by Maura but a more concrete version of that grief, Gansey doesn’t really fit any of the chars (I did temporarily think about making him Creature but I just think dynamically Noah will work better for that) so I’m debating between having past Bluesey so she’s mourning her mom and him or leaving it out and just focusing on Blue x Noah I kind of don’t have anyone to bounce ideas off of for this (also I watched the movie three days ago and adored it so thoughts are a jumble!) so wondered what you thought lol
DUDE I’m so glad someone else hopped in on this train (one passenger. it was me) THIS AU IDEA IS SO GOOD..i had gone the Basic route and was blueseyfying it but Creature Noah makes so much sense☹️…both forgotten and abandoned then remembered and loved. yeah you’re cooking for sure!!!! this is making me want to rewatch LF which i should’ve done in the first place cause i’m clearly not done eyeballing them under a magnifying glass lmao. i actually need to reread trc too who am I kidding… anyways i’m fully on board with this idea. seated in first class even…TAKE THE WHEEL

THEY ARE FALLING AUGHHHHHH
1-) Slade from TT2003. His brutality towards Terra was my dealbreaker, get your fucking hands off of her
2-) I've always admired Ultron from afar. Despite Hank and Janet still being on my romantic list, i don't know if i still feel that way about them and it might change eventually. It's a chain reaction; once you pick one of them (romantically) you can't have the others (or Vision).
3-) I thought Sam from SDV would be my thing but... I don't know. He's too much of a manchild for me to want to marry him ever again. Which is good - his father is still the hottest guy in SDV by far.
Plus any char in my Questioning list. I have no fucking idea what to do with 60000000 MM robots I can say that much

Universe of Lost Messages (The Charismites) by Janet Stilson
Tumblr media
Story Summary
What if your child has special powers and can get people to do almost anything? What happens if the child is abducted?
Izzie and Tristan were never mere humans. They are Charismites, with almost god-like powers of magnetism. And they couldn’t be more different. Izzie is a reckless, playful megastar whose popularity far exceeds that of any other celebrity. Tristan is a nature-loving recluse, almost completely unknown to anyone beyond a protective biodome.
Their worlds explode when they are abducted by The Fist, a power-hungry political group with a master plan to control the hearts and minds of all people on Earth and satellite colonies beyond. But the plan only works with the help of Charismites.
Their families don’t have much to go on until a feisty, street-wise teen, Cheeta, discovers clues about the Charismites within a strange metaverse filled with millions of missing messages. But will they actually find them? And can they destroy The Fist before they take over the planet?
Filled with an eclectic cast of characters, a slow-burn romance, humor, and wonderful descriptions of a sensual and sometimes violent world, Universe of Lost Messages is a stand-alone sequel to Janet Stilson’s beloved novel, The Juice. Fans of William Gibson, Philip K. Dick, Raymond Chandler, dystopian novels and science fiction thriller books will devour this adventure. While part of a series, Universe of Lost Messages can be read as a standalone book.
“Stilson shows herself to be one of the very best of new SF writers. This is a terrific thriller but it’s also a deeply incisive political novel, holding up a mirror to our celebrity-obsessed culture.” – Jonathan Oliver, former editor-in-chief, Solaris Books and author of The Language of Beasts.

Review:
A small group scours a distant-future United States when someone abducts their loved ones in this standalone SF sequel.
A sudden explosion in a Los Angeles home leaves behind a charred room and no sign of famed teen actress Izzie Cardinale. But her older brother, Shake, a lead content producer at media conglomerate Nuhope, knows she’s been kidnapped. Izzie is a Charismite whose “extraordinary powers of charisma” some may want to use for sinister purposes. Her Charismite abilities are innate, much like those of family friend Tristan Ellington, who, despite his parents keeping him safe in a climate-controlled biodome, also vanishes. And in Queens, Cheeta LaVera, assistant to Sen. Miles Morelli, is looking for the senator, her boss/surrogate father, who reportedly died in a “freak car accident.” Apparently, an organization called The Fist has kidnapped him, at least according to his message that Cheeta discovers in a bizarre, virtual reality–like “metaverse” where people’s random, lost messages float in bubbles. The metaverse is the key to finding the missing people. Stilson eases readers into this follow-up to The Juice (2021). The story unfolds in a well-described “United America” (comprising the bulk of the American continents) and boasts an indelible cast. The pace is leisurely, and the cast gradually learns about the message-filled metaverse, as well as The Fist’s plan for the young Charismites. Alternating first-person voices narrate the story, including those of Cheeta, Tristan, Lush Ellington, and more. Distinctive social classes help shape these characters’ circumstances and backgrounds (Cheeta was born into the lower-classed Chav, while the Ellingtons are the “super wealthy” Elite). Similarly, believable technology (e.g., security bots and decidedly more vicious spider bots) makes this an engaging, plausible future world.
A deliberately paced, engrossing tale set in a politically motivated, tech-heavy universe. - Kirkus Reviews
