it's like, i really do enjoy most of the bats as characters and i really do like a lot of their comics. but also i am sooooo tired of them being hailed as better than literally everyone else. both in fanon but also in comics (modern ones are esp egregious imo, like WHAT was that shit about batman and the joker being the most dangerous men on the planet. hi. have you heard of lanterns? speedsters? supers? actually if i keep listing groups who could kick batman's ass we'd be here all day). they're like kudzu. that shit needs to stay in its native environment (funky little neo-noir detective stories) and stop being an invasive species (putting down everyone else to make them seem cooler). put bruce wayne back into a murder mystery setting that isn't about saving the world but is about saving one person or one family that no one else would've saved right now or so help me god. the whole invasive species cross contamination thing is unhealthy for both him And the other ecosystems he keeps getting transplanted into. please. it's so dark in here

I think it's overstretched extras, but can you imagine Handcraft Falls' Candy and Grenda?

For Candy, I probably could think of something more delicate like a papercraft? Or a 2D-like paper doll you can swap outfits?

For Grenda, something rugged and tough like a stone sculpture?

For how it would happen, let's say Mabel came up with an idea along with them for fun, like a comic where Dipper and Mabel discussed with Stan that how he would look like if he got caught by a curse.

Candy and Grenda... maybe it's because she's got the same voice actress as BMO, who has a screen for a face, but I could see Candy as a glass sculpture? One of those colored ones that are sort of tacky and fun and are things like dolphins or birds. Something a pre-teen girl might get as a gift if she likes Lisa Frank art, and Candy feels like a Lisa Frank girl to me. And she's the skinniest and shortest of the three girls, so she feels more physically fragile than the others. But still cutting, as the unicorn fight proves!

(Or maybe she's literally made of candy, lol. Like a gingerbread girl. But that might be pushing the definition of art/craft a liiiittle far.)

Grenda's tough. Both in the sense that she should be something sturdy and in the sense that I'm having trouble thinking of her exact craft. First thought was a bronze or iron statue, but I'm not fully sold on it. Maybe a clay sculpture, in her case? Very colorful clay, maybe, like vibrant desert clay to match Candy's vibrancy. Hmmm. That's the best I've got for her at the moment, though I wish I could think of something a little more distinct.

Candy and Grenda would be THRILLED with Mabel's curse. Their bff, a super cute and cuddly doll?? That rules! There would be much screaming and some lighthearted jealousy that they weren't cursed too--leading to the discussion of what they'd be.

Rune is going to be my character for the new campaign my Monday group is starting!!! (RIP Kiran, who I never got to show off on this blog because he was a Tabaxi, a Dragonborn, and a Thri-Kreen. I'll miss it. Bugs and kisses.) We're playing Heckna! which is a Domain of Dread-adjacent horror-comedy campaign. The entire party is very macabre, and we should fit right in! (But hopefully not too much...)

Anyways, more about Rune. She's a changeling college of dance bard (a new subclass with the 2024 rules, kind of like a combo between a monk and a bard), and they used to be an acrobat at a circus. Since whatever world this party came from is clearly some kind of grimdark dark fantasy setting, the circus itself certainly had its eerie moments. (And of course, it was a magic circus.) When he wasn't up on the high wire, Rune also dabbled in doing tarot card readings for the circus guests, lying through her teeth about their pasts and futures. (While they used their true changeling form while performing in the big top, she used a specific guise when she did the readings, an older woman who used a different name.)

Rune carries with them a porcelain mask, largely featureless, but gilded with gold. When among people who do not know his changeling identity, she pretends that the mask is the source of her ability to change shape, putting it on every time they shift forms.

had a silly thought/headcanon about rain world as implied by The Watcher (spoilers for the main ending!)

so we've seen that the ancients all had pretty long names (like Six Grains of Gravel, Mountains Abound), and while the iterators follow the same general naming scheme, they're much shorter (Five Pebbles/Unparalleled Innocence/etc)

assuming Spinning Top is her canon name and not just a nickname for the code, to me that implies the ancients' children were given shorter childhood names, and received a full name once they reached adulthood—especially since Spinning Top seems to be named after her favourite toy.

the name Spinning Top also lines up with the short naming scheme of the iterators. in vanilla, there's already reference to the fact that the ancients were the iterators' parents, even if only symbolically. based on these things, it can be assumed that the iterators were named as if they were ancient children!

i always adhered to the headcanon that the iterators' puppets were child/doll-sized and that slugcats were small, which is somewhat reinforced in the Watcher's main ending; i still interpret the room sizes as being exaggerated, and also that the shadows are being stretched by the direction of the lighting. i also uncharitably thought this was deliberate so that the ancients could feel powerful next to their creations, but now i think it's more likely it was done out of fondness.

it could also be symbolic, to show how the iterators don't age the same way fully organic beings do, and they've been stuck with their Big Task for all eternity... but that's reading into things.

it struck me today that a massive part of what makes the Doctor the hero and not the villain of the show is that he actually is not a good guy. he's not good. he's terrible, and he could be really bad for the universe, but the thing that makes him the hero is that he knows what he is really like sometimes and he is actively trying to do the right thing at every opportunity and be better, so in this essay I will-

Weekend Ramblings

GelBoys Episode 1

Great first episode. I like that they're using public transport and walking outside a lot, it feels more alive and realistic even if I have no real frame of reference. I like that the nails are telling the passage of time and this is going fast. The first episode spanned 3 months at least judging from that, probably more.The visuals are really good and I really like the editing, and the way it's shot almost makes me feel like I'm watching a documentary. Seems like this will be messy and angsty teenagers kinda bl and I'm ready.

Perfect 10 Liners Episode 16

I'm still comfortable in my hypocrisy and will use this gif whenever it suits me. Cause Faifa is me, in any other show but this one.

There's something about a brooder begrudgingly falling for the ray of sunshine he swore he’d never need, that I just adore. Add to that the fact that the brooder is played by Perth and I'm in uni bl heaven. I loved this arc so damn much. These two make such an adorable couple and Perth and Santa are great together. I'm surprised with their chemistry but also not, cause I think both of them can probably have chemistry with anyone. If they stay a pair for now I'm on board. Although I do enjoy seeing Perth kissing different boys. We had another parental forgiveness moment which I hate but at least she's moving away and I won't have to see her again. I love Faifa and as much as I hate saying goodbye to YothaGun, it's gonna be fun to watch him and Wine. I do hope just like ArcArm, I still get some crumbs from those two.

Boy Next World Episode 6

Say what you will about Mame but she can deliver a sex scene like no one else. I like that Phu has agency here and that there's real communication happening around and during the nc scenes. Boss and Noeul also deliver as usual but I find the dynamic a little too similar to LITA, and I don't love that. I think it happens more when it comes to Noeul, although I concede that I'm often too distracted by Boss's face to notice much of anything at all, but there are moments that I'm seeing Rain instead of Phu. Fake dating seems to be the go-to these days to keep psychos away and I'm not mad about it. That mother though. His stalking tendencies notwithstanding, it’s a wonder Cir is a functioning human at all. I really like the sides and I adore Jin.

Sangmin Dinneaw Episode 7

This show continues to be the weirdest. And I don't know what I did to deserve this but I think I got a double prize today. Amnesia plot my beloathed and some noble idiocy to follow. At least when it comes to the amnesia we were warned. Although I'm not sure when he actually remembered, so he might not have had amnesia at all. Honestly, who knows with this show? Half the time, I have no idea what's happening, and the other half, I wish I didn't. That scene with the sides gave us the usual whiplash, and the scene with the mother was just insane. It's psycho mom's day, apparently. At least with this one, we got to see some mom-on-mom fighting. It's all bonkers but at least there's only one more episode to go. Sangmin better have a damn good reason for leaving, although I doubt it. At least let me have some fluff from these two, cause they are cute. Also why is the hotel dude still breathing?

A bit of extreme ideas to suggest, but what would Dipper and Mabel do if they eventually couldn't find a way to lift the curse before the summer ended? I have an idea I read from a Sock Opera fanfic my friend wrote: Invite their parents to Gravity Falls so they can convince that the supernatural is real - they can't keep hiding such an extreme situation.

Or, in a more bright way, it can probably be Dipper's Plan B in case. And he discussed about it with Mabel and Stan in advance.

Haha, yeah, if the summer wore on and they still couldn't figure out uncursing themselves, they'd definitely have to start coming up with a game plan regarding their parents and going back to California. Dipper would construct a 39-step plan for breaking the news that Mabel would have to reel him back on until they hit just "bring 'em to Gravity Falls and see what happens." After all, they can't really go back to normal schooling like this, something needs to be hashed out.

It does make be wonder about how some later episode plots would shake out. Like the Society of the Blind Eye--I could see Dipper and Mabel starting to break the news of hey "hey magic is real we're toys now" to local residents because hey, they like to go around town and these people have to realize it some day, and then they have to keep re-explaining it. Because people seem to forget every time. And then they get kidnapped by the Blind Eye because dammit, stop revealing the existence over and over again, do you know how many times we've had to mind-wipe the same people?! Cue the cultists trying to mind-wipe the kids of ever being human so they'll just be toys or something, but the gun doesn't work.

Cultist: Why isn't it working?? It always works!

Mabel: ...that's a science-y memory-erasing gun, right? It messes with your brain? We don't have brains. Like at all.

Cultist: Dear God... brainless toy children.

Dipper: Would you've preferred us having real brains sloshing around in our fake heads??

And speaking of Sock Opera, would Sock Opera occur?? Since the deal hinges on Dipper not realizing that Bill is going to interpret him as one of the potential puppets, but here Dipper is very aware of being one of them.

Sorry I got wildly off-track. Yeah, they'd have to start making some plans, their curse is uh. very very obvious.
