My Kids Use AI as a Tool, Not a Crutch
Parenting in the AI era presents unique challenges and opportunities. As technology advances, children are increasingly exposed to Artificial Intelligence in various aspects of their lives.The way children interact with AI can significantly impact their development. It’s crucial for parents and caregivers to guide them in using AI as a tool to enhance their learning and creativity, rather than re…

I've been seeing something over the last couple days that is extremely alarming. I'm sure you have, too.
Social media posts, tags and accounts are beginning to be suppressed. It's no secret that Trump and his goons have a Monopoly on all the popular social media apps, like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and it is extremely likely that TikTok has been sold to Meta.
It's extremely disturbing to think about simply in the context of American adults. Nobody is immune to propaganda, but especially not under educated, cell phone addicted Americans being fed propaganda by their government without any authority to fact check or dispute information. But something even more disturbing is the presence of another demographic.
You know who's on these apps? Children. Impressionable, vulnerable children and teenagers with developing brains who spend hours and hours scrolling on social media. Who look to social media for their news, their facts.
And, even more disturbing is the plans the American government has for the department of education. It's very clear here what is going to be done, what we've been seeing for years and years that radical right wing groups always, always push for; the suppression of truth and science in favor of an authoritarian agenda. And, in the modern day, I believe we are witnessing an attempt to replace human critical thinking with Artificial Intelligence.
In other words, vulnerable, impressionable children being raised in a generation where the average teenager has 8+ hours of screen time in a day are now going to be active in online spaces where propaganda is going to be pumped into their minds, while activism and truth is suppressed. Artificial intelligence can do all the work for them, critical thinking will be a "waste of time", and already inadequate education systems are going to be tarnished the rest of the way.
This is terrifying. This is disgusting. This is fascism.
We've become so reliant on social media for communication with our loved ones, communities, for a platform to speak our minds, that it's too difficult to simply cease using these apps. Children are already chemically addicted to them. We are, too.
What in the world can we do about any of this? How do we fight against a dictatorship that suppresses us when we try? What about climate change, the end of the Earth?
Is this the end for us?
That's a terrifying thought, but it's one you should keep in your mind for the days to come.
It's a question many other generations were forced to ask themselves, too. The threat was just as real then as it is now.
Maybe some of you have thought about death, before. Maybe you have come close, or believed you did. I have. And from that, one thing that's stuck with me, one question that's stuck out in my mind for years now, is one I try to live by every day. One reason I'm writing this all out in a hope to reach somebody, anybody, make someone think.
If you died, would you be proud of what you left behind?
Would you be confident to say that you did what you thought was right? Would your grandchildren be proud of you? Can you be certain that you would be remembered as a good, caring person who tried to do the best they could in a terrible situation? Or will society let your memory fade away as somebody who couldn't lift a finger to help in the face of injustice?
You can do so much more than you think you can. Resist. Being kind, compassionate and understanding is resistance. Listening to the stories of your fellow human beings is resistance. Thinking for yourself and keeping your eyes open is resistance. Not letting your fear paralyze you is resistance.
You'll never get a more meaningful chance to change the world than you will right now. Keep your eyes and ears open. Resist until the end. Protect our children and crush the fascists.
Do it for yourself, if you have to. But do it. The time to act is now.

In Brazil, proposed AI regulation might compromise fight against child abuse material
Corporate lobbying has reshaped Brazil's AI legislation efforts, removing previously proposed safeguards against high-risk AI models that could generate exploitative content involving children, sources revealed to Nucleo
Tumblr media
Corporate interests have quietly reshaped Brazil's most comprehensive proposed artificial intelligence regulation to date, leading its latest version in the Senate to abandon crucial safeguards against high-risk AI systems capable of generating child sexual abuse content, Nucleo's reporting has found.
The Senate bill – which sets rules for the creation, use, and management of AI in Brazil – initially mirrored the European Union's AI Act, with strict classifications for high-risk AI models. But the current version shifts toward self-regulation, a change championed by tech companies arguing that tighter controls would affect innovation in Brazil, according to multiple sources.
The shift follows multiple delays in the Senate's Commission on Artificial Intelligence, which began discussing regulation in August 2023. After five postponed votes since May 2024, the commission decided to revise its original proposal on high-risk AI systems last Tuesday (December 3, 2024)
The earlier draft completely banned several high-risk AI models, including those that could “enable, produce, disseminate, or facilitate” child sexual abuse material (CSAM). It also classified all AI applications on the internet as high-risk. Both provisions have now been removed.

everyone “the ai is going to take over the world!”
Me an intellectual “brain organoid computation is a man made horror”
ANYWAY HOW’S IT GOING GUYS!!!
I for one accept the LITERAL newborn babies-
(this isn’t even a joke they are literally the equivalent of newborns or pre-term babies with the ability to interact and move in digital or real worlds… which we can grow and develop… bro why did we do this to children)
-who are being used for computer computation, I am so fucking sorry for them holy shit.
As soon as they figure out how to make a circulatory system it is OVER, these poor babies LITERAL BABIES will be basically tortured in a torture nexus being used a biological CPU’s for their entire lives..
they have sentience they are LITERALLY BABIES holy shit.
so uh, yeah artificial intelligence being the hype????
(I knew it was never gonna happen lol, it's a bit too hard and annoying)
FUCK NO BRAIN ORGANOIDS!
anyway nothing particularly fancy I’ve literally expected this to happen my entire life now, and it’s here.
like.. clones, genetics, bioengineering, all this cool stuff it's happening!!!
and uh kinda horrifying I do hope they are treating the organoids okay. the military, and other cool governmental orgs are totally using these.
and that is HORRIFYING, but you know we persist!
anyway cyberpunk is here, be nice to the children (brain organoids) and uh go about your day's guys!

The Rise of Sympathetic Robots in Children's Stories
The Rise of the Sympathetic Robot in Children’s Stories In today’s world, one undeniable aspect of raising a young child is the high likelihood that both you and your little one will encounter a plethora of stories featuring robots. More intriguingly, the robots who tend to win over both parents and children alike belong to a new archetype: the sympathetic robot. During my evenings spent in…

Tomorrow, the U.S. Supreme Court will decide whether it should step in to block or delay the implementation of a law that would ban TikTok from operating in the U.S. If not blocked, the law will force TikTok to cease operations in the U.S. on January 19, unless its Chinese corporate owner (Bytedance) sells to a buyer not controlled by a foreign adversary. The case hinges entirely on constitutional arguments pertaining to national security and free speech. The Justices will hear no evidence about addiction, depression, sexual exploitation, or any of the many harms to children that have been alleged, in separate lawsuits filed by 14 state Attorneys General, to be widespread on TikTok.
The upcoming ban will also be adjudicated in the court of public opinion as Americans try to decide whether the loss of access to TikTok would be a reason to protest or celebrate. In this post we argue that Americans should welcome the disappearance of TikTok because the company is causing harm to children, adolescents, and young adults at an industrial scale.
Our evidence comes mostly from research done by those 14 Attorneys General. Some of their briefs have been posted online for the world to see. The briefs include hundreds of quotations from internal reports, memos, Slack conversations, and public statements in which executives and employees of TikTok acknowledge and discuss the harms that their company is causing to children. We organize the evidence into five clusters of harms:
Addictive, compulsive, and problematic use
Depression, anxiety, body dysmorphia, self-harm, and suicide
Porn, violence, and drugs
Sextortion, CSAM, and sexual exploitation
TikTok knows about underage use and takes little action
We show that company insiders were aware of multiple widespread and serious harms, and that they were often acting under the orders of company leadership to maximize engagement regardless of the harm to children. As one internal report put it:
“Compulsive usage correlates with a slew of negative mental health effects like loss of analytical skills, memory formation, contextual thinking, conversational depth, empathy, and increased anxiety, in addition to “interfer[ing] with essential personal responsibilities like sufficient sleep, work/school responsibilities, and connecting with loved ones.”1
Although these harms are known, the company often chooses not to act. For example, one TikTok employee explained,
“[w]hen we make changes, we make sure core metrics aren’t affected.” This is because “[l]eaders don’t buy into problems” with unhealthy and compulsive usage, and work to address it is “not a priority for any other team.”2
Although the evidence below is all publicly available, no one has compiled and combined direct quotations from company insiders and internal reports across multiple alleged harms. We think this compilation gives vital information to parents, who might want some insight into the character and business practices of a company that owns much of their children’s attention and influences their social development.3 Parents might want to know that TikTok knows that its parental controls are ineffective and rarely used:
In another internal document, TikTok admitted that “user research” shows that “[f]amilies do not use Family Pairing” and that “Family Pairing doesn’t address parents’ top concerns,” including “inappropriate content, offensive interactions, and lack of privacy.4
And even if parental controls worked and parents chose to shield their kids from bad stuff, they can’t because TikTok’s content moderation is poor. An internal study found that the “leakage rate” (of bad stuff getting past moderators) is as follows: 35.71% of “Normalization of Pedophilia” content; 33.33% of “Minor Sexual Solicitation” content; 39.13% of “Minor Physical Abuse” content; 30.36% of “leading minors off platform”; 50% of “Glorification of Minor Sexual Assault”; and 100% of “Fetishizing Minors.”5
For those who think that social media is relatively harmless, we urge you to read the quotations and internal studies described below, in which employees of TikTok discuss the vast and varied harms that they are causing to literally millions of American children each year.6
