Today is the 1 year AO3 anniversary of Slow Show by @mia-ugly. I am beyond grateful that this experience (and it is an experience) has existed in my life for a year and felt it needed commemorating. 🎂

I’m not a creator but I made this playlist for me, so I could take the fic with me, have it with my eyes closed, while driving -- you get it. Today seems like an appropriate day to share it.

-What he wasn’t used to was bringing someone else down with him, and jail would be a bloody blessing compared to seeing Az grey-faced and staring out windows, or that one time Crowley’s pretty sure the man was crying in the bathroom, trying to swallow down the sound so that Crowley didn’t notice (he clenches his hands into fists just thinking about it).

-“It’ll have to be.” Crowley drops to his knees. “There’s a lot of ground to cover.”

-Crowley can let his fingers curl against Az’s palm, can watch him open as a flame, not caring who notices.

A Look At Stuff You Probably Never Heard Of: Code Monkeys

You know how video game movies are a thing? Even movies that are like video games, like Scott Pilgrim vs the World? Well, ever heard of a TV show that’s basically a video game? Because that’s what we’re taking a look at today. Today, we’re looking at... Code Monkeys!

Code Monkeys was an American TV show created by Adam de la Peña and aired in America on the G4 channel (a channel that usually did video games, internet content, and the occasional airing of Japanese game shows like Ninja Warrior and Unbeatable Banzuke) where it started airing on July 11th, 2007 and ended on August 17th of the following year after two seasons. The entire series is animated through NES-style sprites.

Set in the early 1980s (possibly before or after the Great Video Game Crash of 1983), there is a video game company known as GameaVision, located in Silicon Valley, California. In the company, there are two employees who serve as the main characters; Dave, who is a slacker; he’s rude, crude, brash, lazy, and prefers to spend his time having sex and getting high. And his friend is Jerry, who’s basically his exact opposite, being high-strung, easily stressed out, but more level-headed and respectful to everyone, taking his job seriously.

There are other characters who work at GameaVision, such as the new CEO, Bob T. Larrity, who’s a stereotypical Texan businessman who bought the company solely to make more money, despite not knowing anything about games. His son is Dean, who isn’t too bright (As his dad points it, “that boy is R-E-tarded”), but he’s quite strong and is used to help his dad’s illegal activities. The only female video game programmer is Mary, who is a strong feminist, causing everyone else to believe she’s a lesbian. Her games focus around women, but not exactly right in terms of their message, like having a female character eat until she throws up so she can fit into a dress. Todd is the fantasy programmer, being obese, wearing a horned helmet, and speaking in Ye Olde English. He can’t see the line between fantasy and reality, causing him to be despised by his co-workers, so see him as annoying and a “creep” or “douche”. Black Steven is, as you can guess, the only Black man in the company, and like your average tumblr-user, he’s heavily racist towards White people with his game focusing on prejudice. He’s foul-mouthed, ill-tempered, and highly violent with an interest in guns. Clare is the receptionist and serves as the exact opposite of Mary, being fairly dim-witted, selfish, and air-headed with an interest in BDSM. Benny is a Korean boy who was illegally adopted by Larrity and works as the game tester for the company. He’s fed a diet of cigarettes, Pixy Stix, pure sugar, and Amphetamines to stunt his growth and keep him energized so he can continue playing games. Finally, Clarence is the company’s audio designer, providing music for everyone’s games. He’s flamboyantly and openly gay, constantly sings when he speaks, always sparkling, and can levitate and move through walls with his “Gay Magic”. Sometimes, he pitches homosexual-themed games.

As you can tell, the show is styled after old 8-bit games, complete with HUDS, health bars, items, and even a score system. While there isn’t much music, the character animations seem just like the old 8-bit days. But the biggest part of the show is the humor, which mainly focuses on dark comedy and physical humor, often having people getting beaten up.

How appropriate that a TV show based on a game still gets a rating. But in this case, it’s still my Final Recommendation: Never Let Go Of It||Get It||Hold Onto It||Try It||Consider It||Stay Away From It

The show was a very enjoyable experience when it aired, but the humor, which, much like Ghost Stories, isn’t for everyone, since it makes fun of anyone and everyone. BUT, a lot of work on the show makes it apparent that those working on it know a thing or two about games, as it’s chock full of video game reference.

Like, if a character winces in pain (or if they smell a horrible scent), they resemble damage sprites from the NES game, River City Ransom (which Scott Pilgrim borrows heavily from, with beating people up to get money), the Jumping sound effect from Super Mario Bros. plays when someone jumps, and there was even an episode where the group is saved by Neo-Nazis by some cowboys, and the battle between the cowboys and Nazis plays out like an early entry Final Fantasy title. And that very same episode has a reference to Wolfenstein 3D.

I’d also like to mention that oftentimes, real world people who worked with, games, technology, and nerd culture are brought in to voice themselves, typically to pitch a video game idea to Larrity, only to be rejected. One such example is Lorne Lanning pitching Oddworld, as seen above. In fact, the previous owner of the company before Larrity was Steve Wozniak And in one episode, Todd harasses speaks with Gary Gygax (co-founder of Dungeons and Dragons).

They really play around with the fact that it’s basically a video game, with characters getting or losing points depending on how things go and having various items in their Inventory. At at one point, the game actually crashes, causing a Player to eject the game at put it back in, starting the events of the episode back to the beginning.

Audience Network encarga diez episodios de Hit the Road, comedia escrita por Dean Craig (Death at a Funeral) y Peter Tilden y producida y protagonizada por Jason Alexander (Seinfeld) sobre una familia disfuncional que viaja por el país en un autobús buscando triunfar como banda de pop rock.

Netflix ya graba diez episodios de The Legend of Monkey, inspirada en una fábula china del siglo XVI llamada "Journey to the West", sobre una adolescente y tres dioses caídos que deben acabar con un reinado demoníaco de caos y destrucción.

Luz verde directa a Titans, serie de DC Comics escrita por Greg Berlanti (Universo DC/CW), Akiva Goldsman (Fringe, The Da Vinci Code) y Geoff Johns (Arrow, The Flash) que se emitirá en un nuevo canal digital dedicado exclusivamente al universo DC a partir de 2018. En ella, Dick Grayson emerge de las sombras para liderar una nueva banda de jóvenes superhéroes, entre ellos Starfire y Raven.

BET ha encargado diez episodios de Divorce Saved My Marriage, comedia sobre un matrimonio que, tras diecisiete años y dos hijos adolescentes, decide que van a ahorrar para poder separarse algún día. Escrita y producida por Devon Shepard y Dave Becky (Weed, House of Lies, Insecure) y basada en el show del comediante David A Arnold, que también protagoniza.

BET emitirá la miniserie The Bobby Brown Story (cuatro episodios), del mismo equipo que The New Edition Story, sobre uno de los fundadores de este grupo musical que ahora triunfa en solitario.
