books, books and more books📚
My morning was rather awful as I was so tired I considered skipping first lesson. Got up anyways and attend every single class of that day. Yay :) I’m a bit sceptical of my english teachers approach regarding ‚The Circle‘ by Dave Eggers but to be honest, it can’t get worse than his Shakespeare lessons…
My library shift was unusually quiet today. Did inventory and put all the returned books back into their spot. My old ap english teacher came in to get dictionaries (I’m glad I got rid of a few-) and I had a surprisingly polite fifth grade come in with their teacher to pick up their copies of ‚Tom Sawyer‘, which reminded me of the time I played Huckleberry Finn (yes, Finn played Finn lol) in 8th grade English class. Time flies by…
Now I’m off to dinner and picking someone up from the train station :)
Highlight of the day: small amount of snow that survived the night!!❄️

5x01, Sympathy for the Devil
Critical theory: The soldier, the tool, the son part two; the tool in his father’s hand.
Discussion point/question(s): Dean’s GED.
Further reading: “Father, that’s Michael, right?" (@godsquad)
Discussion:
We’ve discussed before that Dean might’ve been one of the people who can see and talk to angels, just after hell he couldn’t… and this kind of confirms it. He’s a vessel. Of course he could. He lost it.
Iga, what is it that makes him a vessel? And Nick? What makes them special?
The way Lucifer got consent vs. the way Zachariah tried. Lucifer does it gently, with concern. [I will say he’s playing dirty, and I don’t believe it’s genuine, but it is gentler.] Kai, it’s smarter. Zachariah thinks he’s being smart playing Dean’s pressure points (Sam and Bobby), but Lucifer is being smarter. Maybe there were other possible vessels, but Nick is prime to be played like that.
They confirmed that God is up and doing things, right? It’s implied. [Do we know that God is around. We know that Cas thinks he is.] There is something going on. Shenanigans. Tomfoolery. [Who put them on the plane?] Was someone taken off the plane? Did the plane crash land and they survived? Did it just land? Love that we don’t see that. [I love that Dean wasn’t freaked out on the plane though. Like I know he was busy, I know he has bigger concerns right now, but you know.] Kai, he’s been on two planes in this show and both were crashing. Iga, he’s literally been to hell I don’t think he cares any more.
We know that Lucifer corrupted Lilith, she was the first demon, to prove humanity was beneath him or something. And the way demons are created is through torture, but did he torture Lilith, or did he corrupt her? Taunt her like he’s doing with Nick? Gently, kindly, softly. What went down between them? [I know the demons forget what it’s like to be human, so don’t care about the torture. But, actually, we know through Ruby, they still get tortured and they still hate it. And Lilith loved Lucifer. She was devoted. Lilith knew she was going to die to raise Lucifer, and she was?]
What of hell itself? Did Lucifer create it? How did they create this dimension? It’s all a bit funky. In the Vampire Diaries they explain how hell is created. [But that’s unusual! In most stuff that deals with heaven and hell etc. it’s not explained. I can’t remember if they do in spn. Vampire Diaries popped off with hell it has to be said.]
Cas is really hot. [Cas is really hot.] Jealous of his ability to dip on a conversation leaving only the sound of wings.
Miss the MotW episodes. Everything has become very PlotTM and very high stakes. And it’s good, we’re enjoying it, but we miss the format. Hope it comes back. And the MotW are a but more goofy. And you can relax a bit more, because with these it feels like you could very easily miss something important. [I will say, this is the season premiere, it is gonna be very plot. And there are certainty less MotW episodes this season, but I do think we start to see a bit more of a balance later on.]
Notes: The post that posted the day we watched 5x01 was. 2x13 Houses of the Holy. Which is very thematic.

231003 ♡ tuesday. fall is hitting hard! i took a walk in the rain today to clear my mind (it didn't work) and finished a reflection journal for my international studies course (went a page over the limit but the prof is chill about that). i've been reading The Jane Austen Treasury and yearning to read Mansfield Park since it and Persuasion are the only novels by her i have not yet read.

30/08/24 (゚ー゚*)
Not a productive day at all but at the very least chemistry class went way better than I expected and I'm now finally caught up with the subject and not disappointing my professor lol
Oh, and I bought some air drying clay in hopes to start a new hobbie (I feel like I need some kind of therapeutic hobbie to fill my mind when feeling anxious) and cereal because it always makes me feel better. Those were the most exciting parts of the day and although I am feeling guilty for not having done basically anything, I'm being kind to myself and understanding that my best looks different every day.

The thing I'm most looking forward to at the end of the semester is being able to delete the hundreds of Organic Chemistry photos off of my phone. I'm done. It's done. Thank the gods and pass the hot sauce!

5x11, Sam, Interrupted
Critical theory: “Madness”/mental illness in horror.
Discussion point/question(s): Sam gets angry. Dean gets scared.
Discussion:
Definitely something to say about the wraith ramping up what’s already there, so Sam gets angry, but Dean’s reaction is interesting. He gets scared. [I literally just added that as a discussion point. In those exact words.] Everyone has something that could be amped up.
It’s another look at older hunters. And it’s a sad one. It’s another reminder that there is no retirement for hunters. You die, or you end up like Martin. It makes Sam’s ending even more enraging. [It’s Rufus’ “there aint no happy ending”]
It’s really sad that Dean is just scared and confused. [He was really vulnerable. Sam was out of it, but he was going out swinging. Dean was crouched in a corner.] They got basically the same thing, a hallucination telling them all the ways the fucked up
[I wanna talk about that. That shrink was inside his head. That was all him. And what did she ask about? How much do you sleep, how much do you drink, when was the last time you were in a long term relationship, let's talk about your father. That was all him! He knows what’s wrong with him! He knows he doesn’t sleep enough, drinks too much, doesn’t have relationships, that his dad fucked him up.]
He knows that it’s not fair to have all that pressure on his shoulders. [And he was tired before all this. He was tired before hell was even mentioned. He was exhausted trying to save three or four people at a time. And now there’s billions!] He wanted a holiday. And there’s no break, there’s never going to be a break. All he can do is repress it. Telling Sam to repress it is gonna fuck them. Absolutely it will, but what is the choice? It will bite them in the ass, but they can’t take a break, they can’t see a therapist. There’s too much. And it’s giving “they can’t win.” They’re going to snap even if they do kill Lucifer.
Sam at no point thinks that was a trick or bait. He’s just been warned and he immediately starts swinging again. Dean was huddled in a corner.
Being honest with the doctors was funny, but it was a stupid move. They could have been talking to the monster. They made themselves targets. As much as FBI has become lazy backup at this point, it would’ve been a smarter move here. These episodes are always stressful, but this one felt a bit silly and unnecessary. [I agree. I think the kind of “trapped” narrative is just too tempting to the writers. And it does stress you out, it is very effective. I agree it’s silly of them to put themselves in that situation from the character perspective, but as a writer it makes sense.]
