this is just what america Is Like. no regard for the fact that pedestrians have just as much right to public spaces as drivers. it's built into the city design and traffic laws.

i love crossing the street in front of cars where i can see the driver is visibly annoyed because like. are you mad at me? am i making you mad? are you upset? are you gonna kill me about it? gonna vehicular manslaughter me? gonna split my head open like a watermelon with that big strong manly truck? are you mad at me?

#like im sitting in my nice comfy car that will more than make up for the time I spent waiting for pedestrians #please go ahead #being a pedestrian should not be stressful #yet america goes out of its way to make that the case #bree speaks #i like to stop for bikes coming up to the signaled bike path before theyve had the chance to press the button #cause like the effort to getting a bike moving is much more than the effort of pushing a gas pedal #but i dont always see them coming and i feel bad #likewise id rather sit in my car a minute or two longer than be the reason a pedestrian has to stand under a signal waiting for it to chang #or go out of their way to walk to the next crosswalk #or feel distressed in any way #america brain #my destination and safety is not any more important than theirs just because I could kill them if i was careless enough #and I hope that drivers would have the same respect for me as a biker or pedestrian #so yeah no I dont feel bad interrupting someone's drive because I've done my part #yes my safety is my responsibility #but as a driver with great power you must also accept the great responsibility of not being a danger to others #intentionally or unintentionally #my life is on the line but so is your freedom #social contract and all that #anyways #i think the problem is Americans have very little experience as pedestrians #and the experiences they do have are colored by their far greater multitude of experiences in a car #so combined with driving being the onlu legitimate way to exercise any kind of freedom of movement in most of the US #driving feels more like a right than the privilege it truly is and should be #compared to walking

#poorly drawn mdzs #mdzs #wei wuxian #granny wen #a-yuan #It's always fascinating how colours translate from the page to the screen.#It would probably surprise a lot of people to see what some of these comics actually look like in physical form.#My lighter colours takes about 3-4 washes before it shows up on scan which means it tends to ripple the page.#And my yellows and oranges are drastically different colours when scanned compared to the ink colour.#There's about 20 or so comics where everyone's hair is purple - because it scanned in the exact same colour as my light grey.#Wait my book is right here in front of me so I can...yeah...Comics 57-77 were indeed purple.#This is all to say - is it not fascinating how what we see is often not the full truth of what the subject truly is?#Is it not fascinating to open another episode that reminds us that despite everyone's claims they could totally spot the evil YLLZ-#-The man walks around among them for months as no more than a man haggling for deals like the rest.#It's almost as if he's just a person. It's almost as if none of us - no matter what we do are really anything more than just a person.#Your good acts will be overtaken by how other's interpret you in negative light.#Just as easily are people willing to forgive crueler actions if they hold you in high esteem.#But what's real? Is the page I hold the real version of this comic? Is it the one you look at?#Is the man known as Wuxian the most himself when he is alone or on the battlefield?#Perhaps he is and has always been a scared orphan boy lost in the market.#I think there is no good answer to any of these questions.#But I do know that panic rising in WWX as he frantically looks for A-yuan was for more than one boy.#To be human is to have layers around a delicate center. We only really grow around our wounds from childhood.#In other words; Donkey from Shrek would also probably call Wei Wuxian an onion. I'll see myself out now.

Just returned from a very long and tiring but absolutely amazing day out where I was lucky enough to see some costumes from Pride and Prejudice (1995) at Sudbury Hall. There was an impressive array on display with lots of historical context included. It was a seriously well done exhibition, with many more costumes than just those belonging to Elizabeth and Mr Darcy as above (I will share them eventually).

It was so surreal but wonderful to stand in front of the costumes that were used to bring my favourite characters to life onscreen. I noticed so many little details that you just can't pick up when you're watching it (even some amusing stains!) and gained a new appreciation for the care that went into crafting each outfit (some were only worn once).

Plus, to see them in the space where they were actually worn, in the house that was used for the interiors of Pemberley (especially the dress in the second picture which was worn by Elizabeth while she played the very same piano mere feet away) just made the entire thing even more special. What a day!

“It was a bright, sunny morning when we set off. I was ready early, but Pattie, George, and Ringo were coming in our car, and were late.

“By the time Anthony drew up at the station entrance we were cutting it fine and had five minutes to catch the train. John leapt out of the car with the others and ran for the platform – leaving me to follow with our bags.

“It was the result of years in which he’d taken it for granted that others would see to all the details. I followed him as fast as I could. The station was mayhem, with fans, reporters, police and passengers all milling around. I struggled to push my way through, but when I got to the platform my way was barred by a huge policeman who, unaware that I was with the Beatles party, said, ‘Sorry, love, too late, the train’s going,’ and pushed me aside.

“I shouted for someone to help. John poked his head out of the train window, saw what was happening and yelled, ‘Tell him you’re with us! Tell him to let you on.’

“It was too late. The train was already pulling away from the platform and I was left standing with our bags, tears pouring down my cheeks. It was horribly embarrassing. Reporters were crowding around me, flashbulbs were popping and I felt a complete fool. Peter Brown, Brian’s assistant, had come to see us off: he put his arm around me and said he’d take me to Bangor by car. ‘We’ll probably get there before the train,’ he assured me, anxious to cheer me up.

“But what neither he nor anyone else knew was that my tears were not simply about the missed train. I was crying because the incident seemed symbolic of what was happening to my marriage. John was on the train, speeding into the future, and I was left behind. As I stood there, watching the train disappear into the distance, I felt certain that the loneliness I was experiencing on that platform would become permanent one day.”
