Honestly my answers will sort of be an inversion of yours: Jean as someone I really appreciate but I'm not actively into and Venti as unhealthy obsession and fandom bicycle. (Thanks for introducing me to that term, lol.)

Jean

How I feel about her: I don't brainrot over her for her own sake, but as my de facto main in co-op, the permanent healer in my overworld team, and one of Mondstadt's most important characters I'm very fond of her. She deserves more breaks. So so much.

Her design fascinates me too; if you use the alt version of her default outfit it looks very modest and like everything's covered when she's standing still, only for more skin to be exposed on her upper torso when you run or otherwise move around. It feels like a visual reflection of how she hides/suppresses the more human, emotional parts of herself to perform her role.

Romantic ships: I'm not actively into any but Jean/Lisa just makes sense to me. Lisa is such a fun character to bounce off her. You've got me intrigued about Jean/Eula and Jean/Kaeya as well, and I should look into Jean/Diluc too.

I s2g her voice lines make her sound like she's starting to have a crush on Traveller too. That could be really wholesome; they could periodically show up in Mond, speedrun solving a ton of citizens' problems, and whisk her off to beautiful corners of Teyvat she'd never dream of having time to visit otherwise. And they both have sibling issues... I'm selling myself on this as I type it, dear lord.

Platonic OTPs: All of the above are also wonderful platonically. Also Jean and Venti!! God!!! I neeeed more interactions between them; it's a massive shame the game never showed us Jean or Diluc processing the Venti-Barbatos reveal and the religious crisis that would definitely cause. Especially for Jean! I wish this oneshot was a longer multichapter so badly.

I'm fascinated by the idea of them having a lot in common under the surface, especially if we compare Jean to how Venti may have been in Mond's cultivation period. Even their outfits have a lot of design elements in common!

Additionally, considering her parallels with/idolisation of Vennessa, I love the idea of Venti having unresolved guilt/unprocessed trauma about whatever happened to Vennessa in the end + maybe her overworking herself for Mondstadt until her death, and him screaming internally watching Jean go down the same path. I can't get enough of fics where he helps her relax for once. The two of them should go on some long field trip where they coax each other into acknowledging they're people that feel things.

Unpopular opinion: Not sure I have any! I'm not familiar with general fandom opinions about her but I'd be surprised if I saw someone severely mischaracterising her, tbh. She doesn't feel like a difficult character to grasp. Maybe my perception's skewed since I tend to obsess over human dumpster fires, though.

Something I wish would happen: mainly (gestures at the platonic section), but seconding you that we need her to make progress with Barbara too. I'd love to see her be dragged into more shenanigans with Diluc as well, though I'm biased as a combined-Diluc-and-Jean main.

Venti

How I feel about him: I probably need help with the amount I think about this goddamn character. I didn't truly understand the term 'comfort character' until I started obsessing over him. I project onto him a bit too much and I want to emotionally smash him to bits and scrape him together again.

Even without the brainrot, he's just fascinating; he's clearly a significant character that will almost certainly be tied to massive lore drops later on, and the vague hints about him having time powers mean that even the way he fundamentally experiences reality can be theorised about with wildly different ideas being equally valid.

He has me freezing up at every damn mention of wind and/or time and/or music in this god-forsaken game. And there are a lot of them.

Romantic ships: as I said, he's the fandom bicycle for me. Everyone gets a ride. I especially love zhongven in multiple permutations, and their longevity means fanworks for other Venti ships can easily slot in past zhongven as well. Otherwise I really like kaeven, I used to be more into diluven but kaeven has completely eclipsed it for me, and I'm really intrigued about the potential of furiven as well (though I usually approach that platonically).

Non-romantic OTPs: any of the above if not being done romantically, plus Venti+Jean and Venti+Vennessa (see Jean's section lmao) and Venti+everyone in old mond- especially NB and RHW. And I really really want to see him interact with Furina. There are so many people he either has a fascinating relationship with already or has potential to.

While it's not a ship, I find the idea that he's slept with the Tsaritsa at least once pre-fallout very funny.

Edit: Venti having a non-reciprocated crush on Vennessa is interesting as well.

Unpopular opinions: I'm not sure I have any in a tumblr fandom context? Maybe that any ships between him and a mortal who's grown up worshipping him (like diluc/venti, jean/venti, etc) would be a lot more of an emotional minefield for both parties than people tend to explore, with the mortal having to go through a religious crisis while Venti clearly just wants to be treated like a person + could be paranoid as hell about whether their consent to anything is genuine.

That's not a criticism of those ships, though! The opposite, actually. I'd love to see a long fic that really digs into that.

Something I wish would happen: ...there are so many things I could put here. The main ones are a) a Venti-is-Barbatos reveal (and maybe a reveal of his darker secrets, like any abyss ties) to all of Mondstadt, forcing him to stop avoiding his problems for once, and b) for Venti to be pushed into a corner and/or go apeshit and reveal just how much he was lying about his power level.

I need a Vennessa-Venti reunion as well. Please please please.

The Journey Begins

The intro still holds up well. It's strange seeing traveler with his black earring, no gliding, no inventory, nothing.

I will use traveler until I obtain my first healer character. Kaeya is the only starter with (self) healing in his kit, so it's going to be Just Kaeya until at least wishing is unlocked.

I haven't decided if I'm wishing on the Beginner Banner yet, but if I do, obviously I will get Noelle as my second party member. And, of course, I will get my free Barbara before too long.

I expect not being able to condense resin or collect seeds will be the biggest pain points.

It's very nostalgic being re-introduced to the game. I remember doing this for the first time, having just come off playing Breath of the Wild, and being completely hyped about the similarities in the early game play.

Venti is my favourite Archon. Too bad I won't be pulling him on this account.

Surprisingly, I'm really not liking Paimon's original voice. Yeah, it's definitely less shrill but . . . the obnoxious Paimon I know and love has a lot more emotion, too.

Amber acquired! I shall use her once, then bench her forever.

She's such an underrated character. Even years after starting this game, even in the most recent regions, I still pull her out for puzzles. When it comes to overworld functionality, other pyro characters just don't compare.

Bad news, kid.

I forgot you've literally had your glider for like 2 minutes when this happens. Hilarious.

Aaaand wishing unlocked! For some reason, I remembered that happening after acquiring the starter characters. I guess I got the order mixed up.

I have decided to pull on the Beginner Banner. Here comes my guaranteed Noelle, and indeed, my first party member.

Level 16 . . . R3 Debate Club . . . it's a start.

Admittedly, I haven't used Noelle much, so this already will be new for me. She is probably one of the only two Geo characters I've neglected on my regular/main account.

Will I be pulling on the current banner (Zhongli/Neuvillette)?

I mean, yes, definitely, if I have enough for a 10 pull. Neuvillette self-heals, though I don't reasonably expect to have enough primo in the next week to get him. More importantly, Yao Yao is on this banner, and she'd be really great to have for this account.

Maybe I'll be crazy enough to pull on Zhongli someday, but seeing how he's only usable here if I have him at C6 . . . not bloody likely.

Meanwhile, I can complete the test runs and collect those rewards, as that is acceptable within the rules of the challenge.

Alright, time for the three temples . . . you can do it, Noelle!

Briefly featuring Amber.

The point here is to have fun. Breaking domains is not fun for me. So I will be briefly using the starters to activate the required monuments only.

Time for the second character to join my party! Unlike Lisa and Amber, I get to keep you.

Noelle and Kaeya are great synergy, right. (lol)

Kaeya has always been one of my favourite characters, but it's been a long time since I've used him regularly. Feels a bit like coming home.

And that's a wrap on Kaeya's domain. And, of course, our first introduction to this guy:

Diluc was definitely one of my favourite characters early game, and probably the first 5* I really got excited about getting.

He's been pretty badly powercrept at this point, of course, but I still use him often!

Level 16 and Skyrider Sword for Kaeya. Again, it's a start . . .

A quick detour to Windrise to activate the statue, and then it's Lisa's turn.

I am . . . admittedly . . . not a big fan of Lisa. She kinda makes me uncomfortable. So not too broken up about not being able to use her.

A brief moment in the spotlight . . . before I bench her forever.

And that's a good stopping point for this post, I think, though I will probably keep playing for a bit longer.

These guys will be fun-loving, squeezing your waist and pressing their face against your back as they embrace you tightly from behind. And they won't be letting go of you for a while. They'll be like a leech, the way they'll cling onto your back like that, but to them, they simply see you as their teddybear. After all, you bring them comfort, warmth, and they love you so very much that they simply can't let go. You're presence and holding you tight like this soothes them.

I feel like Itto and Venti would probably even lift you off your feet and spin you around at some point too, so you'd be tossed around like one too lol.

the calm ones

Cyno, Kazuha, Tighnari, Albedo, Thoma

They'll be less hyper about hugging you from behind and will wrap their arms around your waist much more gently in comparison, yet, will also hold you for a long time as well. These guys will be calm and would simply want to enjoy this moment with you in peace, feeling more and more at ease as they observed the way you felt in their arms, engraving the shape and feeling into their skin. A feeling they'd always miss whenever apart from you. They'll likely rest their chin on the top of your head or nuzzle into the crook of your neck, taking deep inhales of your scent, and will sigh out contentedly as it assured him that he was where he belonged- safe and at home with you.

They wanted this time to just intake as much of you as they could.

the intense ones

Diluc, Scaramouche, Kaeya, Xiao

The way they'd hug you would surprise you as it revealed a side of them that they would rarely ever show.

He'd squeeze you tightly, but in a different way compared to the playful ones. It's rather desperate, as if he's afraid that if he were to let go, you would slip from him his fingers. It's a hug that begs you to stay with him, to never abandon him, one that hopes that you love him as deeply as he loves you. He'll probably bury his face into your shoulder, as to hide the pensive look on his face while he fears the thought of ever losing you. He would feel so vulnerable in the moment.

But gently hold his face with your hand, softly tell him to look at you, and he will. His eyes will soften at the sight of your smile and your words of assurance will lighten the weight on his chest, even more so when you turn to embrace him with the same devotion and love behind it.

the sensual ones

Ayato, Baizhu, Alhaitham, Dainsleif, Zhongli

When they decide to hug you from behind, they'll be hugging you to tell you much more than "I love you"

They'll pull you in close, keeping you pressed against themselves, bringing their face close to yours and would stare into your eyes with a hazy look, smiling ever so slightly when you begin to blush. They would then slowly let their hands snake around your waist and roam freely up and down your body, sometimes resting on certain areas that he knew would make you heat up, and sometimes even fiddling, massaging, caressing, and rubbing those sensitive spots.

He would do all of this and more as to say, "I want you. I desire you. I adore you. Let me take care of you" because it's already clear that they loved you deeply in the way he would devour your lips and kiss you all over.

the teasing ones

Heizou, Childe, Kaveh

They find this the perfect position to tease you. They would pull you in close, wrapping their arms firmly around your waist and begin whispering sweet-nothings into your ear, lips grazing your ear and his hot breath tickling your skin.

He would feel as your body gets warmer, and would proceed to leave kisses up and down your neck, kissing the spot behind your jaw, your nape, and would leave a trail of kisses down to your shoulder, smiling into your skin as he sees your flustered face.

Bonus:

the sensual + teasing ones

Ayato, Childe, Alhaitham, Baizhu, Zhongli, Diluc

Now this is a dangerous combo. If he's hugging you like this, then that means he really intends to get down and dirty with you. He'll start by bringing your body pressed against his, ensuring that you feel his chest pressing against your back, and most of all feel the pressure of his desire poking at your behind. He'll then whisper into your ear, telling you how much he loves you, asking if you can feel how much he loves you, and telling you all of the things he wants to do to you- Scratch that, telling you all of the things that he will do to you, all while groping and caressing the spots that he knew would get you hot.

I can see them either having you sit on their lap while doing this, or continue standing before eventually bending you over and- well, you know the rest 😏🤭

So I Heard A Rumor...

Synopsis: You promised Kaeya drinks, he promised to be your wingman so you can finally ask his brother, Diluc, on a date. However your plan comes crashing when rumor comes out that you would be buying drinks for all the knights. You also just can't seem to get rid of this bard who keeps singing songs to you. Will you achieve your chance to ask your dream man out? Let's find out.

CW: ALCOHOL, OTHER THAN DILUC NO ONE IS GOING TO BE SOBER, minor swearing, Venti is a bit clingy too

HC: Reader is gender-neutral, Reader does not have a vision, Reader works as a knight, Reader is very clearly in love with Diluc (lol)

Note: Going to apologise in advance because I have no idea how alcohol works as I am not a drinker and don't plan to. I clown on Diluc a lot because my friend is obsessed with him however funnily enough he is the character I have the most ideas with. I'm talking angst, fluff, comfort, everything. The current situation was far from ideal. Tonight was supposed to be the night you finally dared to ask Diluc out on a date. However, right now you were surrounded by drunken knights who wouldn’t stop singing along with an even more drunk bard who had his whole body wrapped around you. You could see Diluc seething at the bar, his fist clenched on the glass so tight you were certain it would break any minute now.

Backtracking to how you have ended up in this situation, it all started because of a rumour. Whispers among the crowd saying Donna was going to make her move soon. You couldn’t allow this, you had loved Diluc since his days as a knight! Sure you never dared to confess this entire time but Donna barely had any history with this man compared to you! She had a long way to go to get to your level. However, it didn’t help that Diluc was a bachelor and a perfect one at that. Even if Donna did or didn’t make her move, someone else might snatch him up sooner or later. It didn’t help that the honorary knight seemed to have become close to him as well. You need to act fast.

So you made a deal with Kaeya, if anyone was going to help you it had to be him. When you first told him about your crush he burst out laughing, before realising you were serious.

“Wait shit for real?” He asked, dumbfounded. You nod, trying not to be embarrassed. He stared at you like you had just said the most unbelievable thing. In Kaeya’s defence, you did say the most outrageous thing imaginable. He knew Diluc was considered a hot target in the single’s market, but for you to also fall for his charms? A shocking revelation.

“Are you going to help me or not?” You ask, now impatient. You didn’t have time to let him make fun of you for liking his brother, someone could be seducing him right now! Kaeya blinked at you in disbelief. However, his face soon shifted to a shit-eating grin. You groaned, instantly regretting your decision. “If you’re not then I’m going to ask someone else ok?!” You exclaim, annoyed and try your best not to give him more reason to make fun of you.

“Nah nah! You came to the right place! I’ll help, I'm an amazing wingman!” He laughed. You shushed him, you didn’t want anyone else to know about this and Kaeya tried his best to hold in his laughter but chuckles and giggles could not stop escaping this man. “Just buy me a couple of drinks and I’ll make sure you both end up in bed together by the end of the night!” He teased, which only made you groan.

That was the plan, you buy him drinks and he would help you look good enough for Diluc to swoon over you. However, for some reason, word got out and suddenly the whole knight team was out and about ready to get drinks from you.

“Wow, aren't you generous? Paying for the knights to drink as much as they want!” Swan chuckled. You didn’t know how it ended up like this, even Kaeya shrugged at you confused. Somehow word got out that you would be paying for ALL the knights to drink until they passed out. It had gotten so big that even Jean decided to join in.

“Well, the knights barely have time to come together and have fun, so I couldn’t miss this.” She smiled at you and that stopped you from calling the whole thing off because there was no way you could say no to Jean.

So now here you were, at Angel Share, drunk knights singing and playing games at the bar. You chugged down on a bottle of wine, feeling like absolute shit. Not only were you going to have to pay for all this but right now you were the worst offender in Diluc’s eyes. Dragging all the knights here and ruining his shift. All you wanted to do was confess but instead, you ended up creating the worst environment for any love to happen.

Finally the damn bard on your lap. You don’t know how he got into this but he was drinking off your tab as well. He was so grateful for your generosity that he decided the best way to show it was by singing tunes dedicated to you while sitting on your lap. He had one arm wrapped over your neck, which strummed the lyre in his hands. He was wrapped around you like spaghetti on a fork. It didn’t help that Diluc could see this man sit on your lap while singing tunes about how wonderful you were.

So right now in Diluc’s eyes, you were, a drunk who wastes their money on alcohol, loves to bring chaos to environments, and also a flirt who has no shame in doing PDA with strangers. The least ideal person to date. You avoided any eye contact with Diluc, you could not face him at this point. You turned to look at Kaeya who was completely out of it. He had drunk so much that he was pretty much passed out just a couple of minutes ago.

‘So much for being a wingman…’ you thought, but honestly speaking in this situation, if Kaeya spoke up it would have probably ended up worse. You looked at the time, seeing how it was almost 12. The bar was set to close soon and Diluc would begin to kick out the knights. Finally, this terror would end and you could go back to your house to cry yourself to sleep. You were smart enough to call the next day off. you hoped whoever spread the rumour had a terrible hangover tomorrow while working the next day. They deserved it.

As you continued to curse the people who spread these twisted rumours, the bard decided to speak up after chugging down another glass. “You seem down my friend! Another song will cheer you up!” He laughed, stringing his lyre once more ready for another song. Cheers of knights could be heard across the bar, hyping him up for another. You sighed, placing a hand on the lyre and putting it down. “No no, I think we had enough songs for tonight. Let’s end the night guys.” You say, trying to stand up while carrying the bard bridal style.

As you tried to stand up, the bard whined trying to shake you off. You underestimating how drunk you were couldn’t carry his weight anymore, especially when he was moving around. You tried to steady yourself but the bard would not stop squirming leading you to slip and fall down. Making sure the bard didn’t hit the floor, and get hurt you shifted your body so you would land on the ground instead, your back hitting flat on the floor while the bard fell on top of you to soften his fall.

The bard whined, resting his head on your chest while you had your grip him to make sure he didn’t get hurt during the fall. The crack of glass could be heard in an instance. Everyone turned towards the sound to see that Diluc had in fact, shattered the glass he was cleaning the entire night.

“Out.” He said. The aura in the tavern immediately turned grim. Knights anxiously made their way out the door, saying their goodbyes to you. Jean carried Kaeya on her back, giving you a weak drunk smile before heading out as well. The bard clearly didn't get the clue as he had passed out on top of you.

Diluc was mad and it was all your fault. You could feel the tears come out. It especially didn’t help that you were drunk out of your mind, unable to hold back your emotions. You gently pushed the bard off you, trying to stand up. At this point, the only people left were you, Diluc, and the passed-out bard.

You mumble sorry, trying to get up while tears continue to flow down your face. Unable to see clearly made it a bit of a struggle to get up, it also prevented you from noticing Diluc who had somehow made his way to you. You jolted up, almost falling over once more, but he caught you before another slip occurred. His arm wrapped your waist gently, steadying you up. You could feel yourself heat up.

“You have to be careful. Here.” He mumbled, guiding you to sit down. You were shocked he had not kicked you out honestly. You looked at him teary-eyed as he pulled out a handkerchief from his apron, dapping your tears away.

“You can sit here and wait until I close. I’ll drop you off afterward. “ He exclaimed, placing the cloth in your hands. “Oh no you don’t have to, I need to drop off the bard home first.” You say, your hands gripping on the cloth ever so tightly. You didn’t dare to stay with Diluc, especially after how terrible the night went. You wanted to leave as soon as possible but the minute you mentioned the bard you could see Diluc halt.

His gaze turned cold as he glared at the unconscious bard on the floor. He walked towards him, picking the bard up from the scruff of his clothes and heading towards the door. He tossed the bard out like trash before dusting his hands off. “Venti can figure out his way to get home. You're unsteady and drunk, so I’m taking you home myself.” You had no escape now. Muttering an ok, you put your head down trying to feel as small as you could.

Were you such a mess that Diluc didn’t think you were capable enough to get home? You were still a knight! Sure you weren’t an honorary knight but you were one, and a decent one at that. You could feel your thoughts spiral but it always leads to the same conclusion. Diluc would never like you back and probably felt pity for you.

You didn’t know how long you were lost in your thoughts, before Diluc spoke up. “I’m done, let’s get going.” He said. You try to answer but the alcohol finally seems to be in your system because you couldn't force yourself to say coherent words. You groan which only made Diluc sigh.

He lifted you from your seat, making you wrap your arm around his neck. He wrapped his arm around your waist once more and held onto your arm with his hand. You immediately could feel the heat from his body. You were already sweating because of the alcohol but now with his heat on your side, you could almost feel your skin burn. You whine, trying to push him away a bit but his grip on you was firm. You look him directly in the eyes. Big mistake.

He had the same poker face he usually had but for some reason, stars were dancing in his eyes tonight. Was he always this beautiful? You weren’t sure if the alcohol was playing tricks on your mind because you couldn’t believe how stunning this man looked. Looking carefully at his face you could see light scars scattered around his jaw. His cheeks were decorated with slight freckles. You couldn't believe how close you were to even notice them.

You weren’t sure what came over you but it was too late to stop the words from spilling out of your mouth. “I’m in love with you.” You stared at him before suddenly realising what you had just said. You can’t believe you had just said that. You wanted to take it back, your brain was wrecking up on excuses to say to him.

‘It’s a joke’ or ��I didn’t mean to say that’ or even an ‘I meant it for someone else’. Your brain kept thinking of various things you could say but nothing would spill out. So here you were mouth gaping open, begging yourself to say something.

Diluc sighed, and you could feel your heart shatter. “Let’s take you home.” You didn’t argue, letting him drag you back to your house. You could feel yourself fall asleep on the way. You gave up in defeat. At least you were off the next day, you would be able to drown in your sorrows tomorrow.

As you tried to comfort yourself, you felt yourself drift off asleep. You could hear Diluc speak but the words wouldn’t register, you needed to escape from him for a bit.

You woke up on your bed, you turned to look out the window to see that it was still clearly night. You groan, sitting up on your bed. Your room was dark but you could see a light peeking under the door of your room, the living room light was still on. You groggily walk out of the room to turn it off, only to see Diluc outside. He was in the kitchen, rummaging through the cabinets.

You look at him in disbelief while he turns to face you. “You ok? It’s too late to buy hangover medicine so I wanted to see if you had any stocked up.” You try to speak, only to be stopped by a cough. Your throat felt so dry, you couldn’t say a word. “Oh, drink this.” Diluc handed you a glass of water, which you chugged down in an instant.

“I was going to hand it to you with the medicine but never mind. You should go rest, I’ll leave soon.” He said, continuing his search in your cupboard. You shook your head. “You can just leave, it’s fine, I can take care of myself.” You wanted him gone as soon as possible. As domestic as it felt having him in your house taking care of you, this man rejected your confession and you didn’t have the strength to handle it at this moment.

You had a splitting headache and a broken heart and Diluc being here was not going to fix that. Diluc halted, stopping his search, you could see a frown on his face as he closed the drawers before turning to you. “Can I ask you something?” He asked, ever so quietly. He was always a silent type of guy, but even this time you could hear how vulnerable he was. The way he asked you in such a soft way made you instantly answer him without a second thought. “Go ahead.” You wanted to hit yourself, you wish you didn’t have such a soft spot for him.

“I heard a rumour, going around…” he continued. He played with his hands, fiddling them about as if he was feeling shy. You cringed at the thought, why would Diluc of all people feel shy? You were just being delusional at this point. As you contemplated your thoughts he continued. “People were saying you invited the knights out for drinks because you got engaged, is that true?”

The cup you had in your hands dropped to the ground. You were glad it wasn’t glass because it would have shattered in an instant, and you had seen enough things shatter today. However, you honestly could not believe the words that had just come out of Diluc’s mouth. “Wait what? Are you serious?” You ask, completely thinking this was a prank. “Why would you think that? Who would even say that?” Who was spreading these rumours around? You were going to kill them.

“So it’s false?” “Of course it’s false! I’m not even dating anyone!” You exclaim, now wondering whether your confession was rejected because Diluc thought you were cheating on your nonexistent partner.

“So you aren’t dating Venti?” “I don’t even know who that is!” You say, frustrated. You put your hands on your face, feeling annoyed. You groan into them in anger. All these stupid rumours were the reason you were here with a horrible headache and Diluc looking at you like you were scum on Earth. You wanted to crawl up into a ball and disappear right now.

“Then can you do me a favour?” Diluc spoke up, disturbing your grovelling session. You look up from your hands and stare at him sadly. “What?” You weakly ask.

“Can you confess to me again when you aren’t drunk?” You blink, unsure of what you just heard. “What?” You say, still unable to process what he had just asked you to do.

“Your confession. Say it to me when you aren’t drunk.” He said once more, looking at you with his unchanged expression. He was being deadly serious. He was asking you to confess again. “Wait wait, so you don’t hate me?” Diluc tilted his head, eyebrow raised. He seemed shocked you even said that. “Why would I ever hate you? Were people saying that?” He asked, crossing his arms, his face turned dark when he said it but you shook your head. “No no, but, does that mean you like me?” You ask, feeling sheepish.

And for the first time this entire night, you could see a small smile fall on his lips. His face softened, no longer a glare in his eyes. His cheeks rose a bit when he smiled and you were certain this smile was for you. “Ask again when you aren’t reeking of alcohol.” He retorted back playfully. “Now, off to bed, I’ll head out now. I heard that you won’t be at work tomorrow so I better hear from you soon.”

With that, he left you, alone in your house, with your thoughts full of him. You knew for a fact you were not going to be able to sleep the entire night, nor was your headache going to be fixed by any type of medicine.

Sorry Mondstadt, but your favourite bachelor is finally going to be off the market!

The slight sounds of a lyre could be heard in the distance on the streets of Mondstadt. A drunk bard still singing a tune.

A Return, or a New Beginning? Pt. 4

Hello everyone! Thank you all so much for loving my little story! This is another long one, but I hope you like it! (I think this story may end up being longer than I thought with the way this pacing is turning out, but hey, I guess that's a good thing lol)

You couldn’t stop crying.

It wasn’t as if you were in real pain, and you weren’t angry, or incredibly sad about being in Teyvat- about this all not being a dream. You loved Teyvat, and longed to have dreams of adventuring in it, meeting your favorite characters and having fun. Even when it was all just a game, you loved all of it. However, this wasn’t a dream. It was all real.

You weren’t sad. You were just so incredibly confused and overwhelmed.

Nothing you had ever done had prepared you for something like this. Interdimensional travel? Traveling between worlds? Whatever this was, it was too much to comprehend at the moment. It didn’t make sense.

So, you cried.

You sat in silence as Albedo delicately applied some cream you didn’t recognize to your cut. It had a faint floral scent, and gave off a cool sensation as it was placed on your skin.

Mist Flower Corolla?

Even though the cut was small, downright tiny compared to some of the other ones you’ve had throughout your life, Albedo cared for it with an intensity you would have thought strange, had your entire worldview not been destroyed only moments before.

At the moment though, you could barely see anything through your tears.

Soon after you had seen the strange gold blood coming out of your cut, the group had snapped out of their shock and awe and had ushered you to the nearest and softest patch of grass, just off to the side of the path. You were too confused and overwhelmed to care much.

Diluc and Albedo had sat down right in front of you, where they still remained. From what you could tell, they both looked laser-focused in on your injury, despite it being incredibly minor.

They also kept their heads down. Whether this was because of their focus on your cut, or because they thought you were some god, you had no clue. They occasionally mumbled something to each other, too quiet for you to overhear as they carefully used the medical supplies they had on hand to treat your leg.

Your focus was too scattered to pay much attention to them though. However, you did notice when some of the others made their way closer to you.

Razor, who had been standing off to the side watching Diluc and Albedo closely, walked over to where you were sitting and plopped himself down right beside you in a manner befitting a boy raised by wolves. He looked at you with wide, sad crimson eyes, and let out a soft whine. Almost as if seeing you in distress made him distressed as well.

You couldn’t help but want to pet his head like one would a puppy’s. Thinking this almost made you want to laugh at the ridiculousness; however, you were quickly sucked back into the thoughts that has plagued you since you realized none of this was a dream.

What is happening? Why is this happening to me? This can’t be real but it is and now I don’t know what to believe…

Tears were still falling down your face, and every once in a while, you let out a little sniffle, but you still tried your best to calm yourself and finally managed to take in a deep, shaky breath.

You lifted your hands to wipe away the tears from your face, and caught a glance of Kaeya and Jean talking in the distance, looking somber.

Real… Teyvat is real… You thought.

But how? This makes no sense, and now my blood is gold? That’s not supposed to be possible! Is this some kind of Teyvat magic?

You mentally shook the thoughts out of your head and tried to distract yourself.

Your eyes quickly found Venti, who had sat down close to Razor. He was not quite next to you, keeping a respectful distance, but he was still close enough for you to easily see through your teary eyes.

Looking at him more closely, you noticed worry and what seemed to be panic in his eyes, but a smile on his face.

Noticing you looking directly at him, he gave you his signature smile and pulled out his lyre.

He plucked out some notes, which became a soothing melody.

Beautiful…

Even through your emotional turmoil, you couldn’t help but be in awe of the wonderful music hitting your ears. Venti’s music. Somehow, it seemed to soothe your mind.

The longer you looked at Venti, the longer you listened to his lyre, the calmer your mind felt. As a minute passed, what once was a swirling torrent of overwhelmed thoughts and worries about your situation became far calmer. You were able to remind yourself once more to breathe.

You found yourself a little bit calmer, a little bit more collected, even if you couldn’t understand why. You were able to start thinking a little more clearly.

This is crazy, but they obviously know more than me about this. Maybe they have a better idea of what’s happened, if I can convince them I’m not some god that is. But then again, the golden blood…

You cut off your train of thought. You weren’t going to get any answers this way. You would just have to talk to them about this once you get to Mondstadt and hope that they can help you get your answers. If anything, you knew you could probably ask Albedo. He knows all kinds of things.

As Venti’s music finally stopped, the last of your tears dried onto your cheeks, and you did your best to wipe the evidence of your slight breakdown from your face. You took in one last deep breath and looked up at Razor and Venti, who had been eyeing you with both concern and reverence, a look you had never quite seen before, and you spoke.

“I’m sorry about that… But ending up in a place I thought was completely fictional is a bit jarring, especially since everything I know tells me that this isn’t possible.” You let out a sad laugh.

Venti looked distraught for a moment, a look which was mirrored by Razor and, unknown to you, both Diluc and Albedo.

“Your Grace,” Venti hesitantly spoke, “please don’t be sorry…” He trailed off for a moment, seeming almost unsure of what to say before continuing.

“Your Grace, we understand that this has been a bit of a… surprise… for you. But we will still do anything and everything we possibly can to serve you, and to ensure your safety, comfort, and happiness.”

His bright eyes locked with yours, and you could feel the seriousness coming from him. It was with this that you remembered that relative weakness aside, Venti the Bard, this cheerful and musical person, was still Barbados. Was still an Archon. A God.

I’m in the presence of a god.

A god you know about, but still. A god nonetheless.

You took a moment to gather your thoughts and had to struggle not to be drowned in the swirling pool of confusion and worry you had only just got yourself out from. Despite this, you tried to answer at least semi-normally.

“Thanks, I appreciate it, even if I still don’t really understand and I’m still not convinced I’m any sort of God or Divine Creator…”

For a moment, Venti’s expression showed the same extreme happiness you had seen on Razor, before moving back to a soft smile as he looked at you.

However, there was no time for Venti to respond further before your attention was moved back to your leg, where both Diluc and Albedo were seemingly finishing up.

You felt a gauze-like fabric wrap around it where you had been cut. Both Diluc and Albedo had nearly finished caring for your small, thorn-caused cut. You looked down at Diluc, who was wrapping the area. With a clearer mind, you were able to take in just how worried he seemed.

You could feel how careful and delicate he was being as he took care to touch as little of your skin as he possibly could. It was somewhat endearing, how gentle he was being, almost as if he thought you would break if he did so much as poke you.

Now that your focus was on him and you were calm, you took a closer look.

His hair is so fluffy looking! So much fluffier than it looks in-game. Wow… it looks like real life makes him look so much better than the game…

As Diluc finally finished, he looked up and met your eyes for the first time. It took him a moment to speak, but when he did you were taken aback by just how nice his voice sounded. You had of course heard his voice lines before, but hearing him in person, now that you knew you weren’t asleep, seemed far more real.

“Your Grace, I…-uh, have finished wrapping your wound.” He seemed nervous to be so close to you, and moved to create a little more space between the two of you, a movement which Albedo then copied. “When we reach Mondstadt I will personally see to it that you receive the best care possible. It is an honor to be in your presence, your grace, even if you… may not have memory of being our beloved Divine Creator.” He lowered his head in as much of a bow as he could do while sitting down

It was all you could do to not gape at him. Diluc himself, personally seeing to your care? It almost seemed ridiculous, but the lot of them, Albedo included, seemed to think of you as some Divine Creator you had never even heard of in the lore of the game. You weren’t really sure what to think.

“Thank you Diluc. Like I said though, I’m not sure I’m even this Divine Creator you are all looking for. Even so, I’m glad to have met you all. Meeting some of my favorite characters-, well, people I suppose, is something I never thought possible.”

He looked back up at you in shock as you called him by name. He, Afterall, had never been an Acolyte. Had never been recognized as the others had. Out of everyone in the greeting party, he was the only one who was not an Acolyte or a literal Archon. Of course, it wasn’t like he thought you wouldn’t know who he was. You were his beloved creator. The highest of beings who loved all their people. He just- wasn’t expecting it, especially with your memories appearing to be missing. You had also called their greeting party, ‘some of your favorites’.

Unaware of his inner turmoil, you turned away from Diluc as Kaeya and Jean re-joined the group from their discussion further away on the path. Jean strode towards you and, upon reaching close proximity, immediately kneeled before you, while Kaeya lingered off in the background.

“Your Grace,” her clear voice rang out. “With your permission, I would have us move to Mondstadt, to a more suitable location for us to get your injury fully healed, and for us to be able to most effectively care for and serve you”.

Despite the situation, you felt a bit of glee at the idea of being able to see Mondstadt in person. You may even be able to get some of your questions answered.

Your voice projected some of your excitement as you responded to the Dandelion Knight herself.

“Yes, I would love to see Mondstadt!” A smile creeped onto your face and you could tell your glee had reached your eyes. Despite all of the confusion, and all of the questions you had, you still found joy in being able to see Teyvat. Mondstadt of all places. You could see the happiness you felt infect each one of them as smiles burst throughout the group.

You eagerly moved to stand, and you could immediately see all of their eyes’ widen and their smiles falter.

“Your Grace!” You heard multiple of them shout in-tandem.

“Your Grace,” Venti said pleadingly as he too stood, “There is no need for you to strain yourself, please allow one of us to assist you!”

This sentiment was affirmed by several nods from the rest as they all stood up and moved just a little bit closer to you, almost looking wary.

With this, you were once again confused.

Assist me? Its just a small cut? It’s not like I can’t stand or anything.

You stood up and brushed off a little of the dirt that had gotten onto your now-torn pajama pants.

“It’s just a small cut, I’m fine. Thank you though Venti.”

Worry still covered their faces, but you had already started to walk forward. As you did, it was as though an invisible command had been given. The six of them all moved to surround you, and you all started off towards the bridge and Mondstadt itself.

As you started walking, you could see everyone’s eyes flicking back to you every few feet, as if ensuring that you were well enough to walk. Several times you noticed Kaeya, who had chosen to walk some feet behind you, falter in step and let out a concerned sounding hum. You hadn’t known a hum could even sound concerned.

You thought it strange, but certainly not the strangest thing to happen today. You did however find entertainment in Razor, who had moved in-between you and the edge of the road, every once in a while glaring and growling at the thorned bushes as if they would jump out and try to bite him.

Seeing as though you were already so close to Mondstadt, it was only a minute or two before you reached the city.

It looked so much bigger than you thought it would. Mondstadt is huge.

You could feel the cool stone underneath your feet, could hear the birds chirping, could see and hear so many things that you had never been able to experience where you lived. The traffic, buildings, and massive amounts of concrete certainly took care of anything green within a large vicinity.

You had only just begun to take in Mondstadt’s beauty and had passed through the gate guarded by Lawrence and Swan when your group of guardians started to close in around you, almost entirely cutting you off from the view of any passers-by.

“What’s going on?”

From behind you, you heard Kaeya respond in a very serious, matter-of-fact tone.

“Your Grace, I apologize, but for the time being we think that it would be safer for you to be escorted directly to the Knights of Favonius Headquarters, without any interference. There, we will be able to properly ensure your safety while we figure out more about your… situation.”

“He’s right, Your Grace.” Jean added. “Please allow us to protect and serve you.”

You really had nothing to respond to that with.

With everything that Kaeya knows, if he AND Jean both think this is for the best, who am I to argue. I’ll see less of Mondstadt, but at least I’ll get some answers.

“Okay, let’s go then.”

With this, you were quickly swept through roundabout paths and back-alleys to a back entrance of the Knights of Favonius Headquarters.

Once inside, you marveled at how beautiful it all looked. The detailed crest on the floor, the swords and shields hanging on the walls, and even the art looked so detailed and immaculate! Though, you didn’t have much time to look as you were swiftly pulled into Jean’s office, and led to a comfortable couch off to the side of the room.

The rest of them settled into some of the chairs nearby, with the exceptions of Kaeya and Razor, who appeared to be guarding the door.

Jean’s office! I’m really here, in the Knights of Favonius Headquarters! Wow…

You got comfortable on the couch and almost immediately you felt exhausted. You had felt fine before, but as soon as you relaxed into the soft and fluffy cushions you felt as though you had been up for days, rather than the rather short amount of time it had actually been since you awoke at Windrise.

Your eyelids grew heavy, and you tried your best to keep them open. It was getting increasingly difficult, though. You had closed them for just a moment- only a moment! – when you were snapped out of your half-asleep state.

“Your Grace?”

Your eyes snapped open to see Albedo leaning over you.

“If you need to rest, please do. Meanwhile, we will make preparations and call for a healer while you sleep. Your trip to Teyvat was sure to have been exhausting for you. It is to be expected that you would need rest. Please, sleep all you need.”

And that was all the permission you needed. You were out like a light.

Shortly after you fell asleep, Albedo gathered a blanket that had been laying on the other couch in the room, and gently placed it upon your sleeping form. As he did so, he softly whispered to you.

“Goodnight, your grace, I wish you a peaceful rest. We eagerly await your awakening.”

Somewhere far off in Liyue, a consultant named Zhongli and the Tianquan of the Liyue Qixing, Ningguang, start to work side by side with the Adepti to design and build an elaborate residence for the Divine one. A palace fit for their beloved Creator that makes the Jade chamber look simple and small. A place to house the Divine One permanently if they chose to honor Liyue in that manner, or simply for if the Divine one wished to visit.

Zhongli, known by the Tianquan as a scholar of the Divine One worthy of even the Adepti’s respect, has to curb his excitement at the Divine One, his Divine One, the one constant in his life resistant to the erosion of time, finally arriving in Teyvat.

Nothing will stop him as he ensures that the preparations to welcome his beloved creator home after all his years of existence are perfect.

Having read all of the Sacred texts so many times that they have been branded into his very being, Zhongli has all of the information Teyvat has about the Divine One at his disposal. Everything from what is suspected to be their favorite food, to what they seem to have valued in architecture and even in people is considered and carefully mulled over.

The people of Liyue, after being told in a large ceremony, rejoice at their Creator returning home to them. Festivities are planned and more offerings than ever before are placed at the Divine One’s shrines all throughout Liyue.

As whispers make their way though the harbor about glimpses of the Divine Creator being seen by citizens of Mondstadt, secret plans for a welcoming party are made.

Similarly, in Inazuma, the Electro Archon has come out of her plane of Euthymia and has shown herself to her people for the first time in many, many years. At her command, messages are sent out across Inazuma, telling citizens to prepare to welcome the Divine Creator.

The Kamisato Clan, who had previously been panicked at the missing divine presence from their Acolytes Ayaka and Thoma, were for once relieved at this message from their Archon. This, however, sends them into another panic, as the Yashiro Commission has been tasked with overseeing the celebration planning right alongside their Archon and Yae Miko, the chief priest of the Grand Narukami Shrine.

Somehow, the Electro Archon’s message even reaches Watatsumi Island, where a temporary truce is made due to the higher priority of the Divine Creator’s arrival.

People all across Inazuma, even those who had previously been wrapped in hate, fear, and resentment, all rally under the cry of their Archon.

“Praise! For our Creator has come at last!”

Acceptance (Diluc x GN!Reader)

Wordcount: 2.5K Warning: Alcohol consumption (It's set in Mondstadt come on lol) Also this does not have a happy ending. Note: I'm sure people will catch on but the older sister is based on Alice's character hehe Also I did not proofread this at all I was just trying to get it posted before midnight.

Looking back six months ago, you had truly thought you were ready to move back to your hometown of Mondstadt. Even after years of traveling around the cities and landscapes of Teyvat, it was still the one place that held a grip on your heart. The rolling hills spotted with wildflowers at Windrise, the scent of cecilias filling the air on Starsnatch Cliff, and the sight of dandelion seeds drifting on the breeze were just a few of the things that made Mondstadt special to you.

The capital city had its own charms of course. The giant windmills were an iconic sight along with the gorgeous statue of Barbatos looming high over the courtyard in front of the cathedral. The clanking of the blacksmith’s hammer and the chatter of merchants were a constant background noise as the scent of steak from Good Hunter permeated the streets while you enjoyed a nice glass of Dandelion Wine. From the outside, it really seemed like the city of freedom was like something out of a fairytale.

“Off to the tavern again, hm?” You visibly cringe at the smooth sound of Kaeya’s voice. “Don’t you think you’re being a little obvious?”

“Obvious that I have a drinking problem?” You reply flatly.

“Obvious that you’re in love with a certain winery owner.” Kaeya corrects you without missing a beat.

You weren’t sure what to do. No matter what you said it would just be opening yourself up to more of his teasing. Normally you enjoyed the banter with Kaeya. He was one of the people in the city that had bothered to get to know you for who you were and not just brush you aside as your sister’s younger and far less interesting sibling.

“He hates me,” you shrug, deciding that pointing out the uncomfortable truth might get the cavalry captain to drop the subject. “I annoy him and he sees me as pathetic and a hot mess.”

It was how a lot of people in Mondstadt saw you, or at least you assumed they did. How could they not when you were constantly compared to your older sister? She was an extremely powerful mage, known all over Teyvat for her amazing accomplishments. Even the archons had acknowledged her talent and ambition by bestowing her with a vision. You were insignificant compared to that. No magic and no vision. Living in her shadow had been a constant weight, and it was for that reason you’d left Mondstadt for so long in the first place.

“Hate is a strong word,” Kaeya shrugs.

He was right. Diluc didn’t hate you. It was probably more accurate to say he was disgusted by you. But you held back from expressing that, not wanting to sound too self deprecating.

“Perhaps I’ll come join you for a drink after my patrol,” Kaeya offers as a polite way to end the conversation. You graciously accept the offer before continuing on your way to Angel’s Share. To tell the truth, the tavern had started off as just a convenient place to spend your time. You hated staying in the apartment you shared with your older sister, even if she wasn’t there most of the time. She was always off on some great adventure or working on some grand scheme. The only other obligation you had was to the adventurer’s guild. So, once you finished up your commissions for the day, all you had was free time.

When you’d first arrived back in Mondstadt, you’d sort of drifted in unnoticed by almost everyone. The most welcoming person by far had been Venti the bard. And while it probably hadn’t done you any favors having the local drunk as your only friend, it had been nice to have someone to laugh, drink, and gossip with.

And Diluc? He had amused you when you’d seen him come into the tavern the first time. It was strange to see his stern scowl behind the bar of such a lively, happy place. You’d snorted with laughter too when Venti told you how many people fancied him and how he’d earned the title of the uncrowned prince of Mondstadt.

“I mean… I get it,” you’d admitted while taking a sip of your drink. “He’s handsome, rich, and he has that tall, dark, mysterious vibe. It’s just… he’s so grumpy.”

You’d had no idea at the time that you were just as foolish as the rest of them. It was hard for you to pinpoint when the silly feelings had started, but the ever observant Kaeya would tell anyone that it was Diluc’s love of Mondstadt that had first captivated you. Hearing the man complain about the inefficiency of the Knights of Favonius had given away how important his home was to him, and how protective he was over it. The devotion he showed certainly resonated with you. In fact, it was during the Weinlesefest that you really started to see a different side of him.

“Heyo Master Diluc!” You’d raised your hand in greeting while shuffling into Angel’s Share and snagging a table. You usually liked to sit at the bar and talk to Charles, but you avoided it when Diluc was there. He was fun to rile up, but you didn’t want to be so obnoxious that he ended up kicking you out or even banning you from the premises. And anyway, on this occasion he already seemed to be in a heated discussion with his adopted brother.

“The festival preparations are coming along quite nicely,” Kaeya hums thoughtfully. “Although it would be terrible to have a wine harvest festival without any wine, don’t you think Diluc? Unfortunately the city didn’t have the resources to secure as much as they hoped.”

You’d rolled your eyes as you eavesdropped on the conversation. Kayea usually handled diplomatic issues so gracefully but he was being completely obvious. Diluc was most certainly going to laugh in his face and tell him to go beg someone else. And just as you thought, the winery owner narrowed his eyes and sighed in annoyance.

“How many barrels do you think you’ll need? Will three be enough?” The reply had completely shocked you.

“That’s very generous of you,” Kaeya smiled graciously. “I’m sure that’ll be more than enough. I’ll have someone stop by the winery this afternoon to pick them up and take them to Springvale.”

“That won’t be necessary,” Diluc waves off the offer completely. “I’ll make sure they get there on time.”

Your jaw dropped as the surprises continued. He hadn’t resisted Kaeya’s request for free handouts at all. And on top of that, he was going to deliver the wine to the festival himself. You had known that he cared about Mondstadt from a safety standpoint and in a political sense, but somehow it shocked you that he’d place such importance on the cultural aspects as well.

“Diluc really loves Mondstadt,” you’d mentioned to Kaeya in conversation later on. “I never would’ve guessed he was that devoted to the traditions surrounding Weinlesefest.”

“You’ll learn a lot more about Diluc by watching his actions than listening to his words,” the knight had told you with a laugh. “I knew it wouldn’t take much to convince him to lend a hand.” In hindsight, maybe you could blame Kaeya for the way you started to pay closer attention to Diluc.

“Don’t you ever relax?” you ask him one evening, striking up a conversation just for the heck of it. “It seems like you’re always working.”

“That’s because there’s always something to do,” he replies stiffly. An annoying voice in the back of your head told you this was a subtle slight against you. He thought you were lazy.

“Don’t you have enough people working for you that you could take a day off once in a while?” You watched him carefully to look for hints that he was getting irritated with you. It probably would’ve been smarter not to engage him at all, but there was something soothing about the sound of his voice.

“Things tend to get done the right way when I do them myself,” he states as a matter of fact.

You really couldn’t help but admire him. He was everything you wished you could be. He was strong and successful. He didn’t care what others thought of him. He was independent and passionate. He mattered.

From there, things just got worse. And once you realized how you were feeling about him, it was too late to backpedal. The only thing you could do was fight tooth and nail not to fall harder. But of course that proved to be impossible too.

“You’re staring again,” Venti snickers behind his glass of wine and you shoot a halfhearted glare at him.

“I was just looking at the specials board,” you tell him.

“Right.” Venti knew very well that you were in the tavern enough to have the specials memorized. It was hard not to watch Diluc though. If you didn’t, it was likely you’d miss those little glimpses of his compassion and generosity that never failed to make your chest warm and your heart stutter just a bit.

Sure, it pissed him off and he grumbled about it forever whenever someone got a little too drunk at the tavern, but that didn’t stop him from letting them crash in one of the rooms there. Most of the time he didn’t even charge them, instead just letting them off with a stern warning. And he loved to complain about Venti’s occasional antics and threaten to ban him from the establishment for trying to get away with not paying for all the wine he drank, but he never actually acted on those words and always ended up serving the bard again the next time he showed up.

“Did you ever think about telling him how you feel?” Venti asks after a moment and you really wish he’d just drop the subject. It was embarrassing and you were paranoid that Diluc would overhear.

“Great idea,” you deadpan. “Then he’ll think I’m even more of a freak and avoid me like the plague.”

“Don’t be dramatic,” the bard chuckles, taking a sip of his wine. “I could help you write a love letter to give him. I bet deep down he’s a hopeless romantic.”

You glance over at Diluc again, watching him meticulously clean the dirty mugs and glasses behind the bar then shake your head. “No way,” you say resolutely. “I don’t think he’d be very receptive to that.”

It got tiresome hearing Kaeya and Venti tell you to shoot your shot. It wasn’t like you hadn’t tested the waters a bit with some subtle flirting. Playful comments like “Looking good today Diluc!” and “Now those are the arms of a claymore user.’ only served to make him grumble and turn away.

Unrequited love sucked, but you might’ve been able to survive loving Diluc from the sidelines if it weren’t for your sister showing up at the most inopportune time.

Windblume.

You should’ve known something was up when half the people you knew had gone missing as soon as the festival started, leaving you to sit at the city fountain and watch all the lovesick couples exchange flowers and love letters. Just when you were starting to actually worry, a familiar voice called your name.

“Happy Windblume!”

“Albedo…” You raise your eyebrow at the alchemist. It was rare to see him in the city since he was usually holed up at Dragonspine, but you figured even he would come out and show his face on such an important day. “It’s been a while.”

“You were gone a long time,” he agrees before offering a deceptively sweet smile. “Have you given flowers to Diluc yet?”

“What?!” You recoil and scrunch up your face. It had been years since you’d talked to this guy and this was his first question. Classic Albedo. How the heck did he know anyway? “First of all…” you frown, “I haven’t seen him all day. I haven’t seen anyone.”

“True,” the alchemist shrugs. “Your sister is in town and has been up to her tricks again. It’s really quite extraordinary that she always manages to pull these things off without anyone knowing.”

Anger bubbled up inside you. Your sister was in town for Windblume, and in her usual fashion, had somehow made herself the star of the show. It wasn’t the first time she’d orchestrated a whole ordeal from behind the scenes, roping in the unsuspecting people of Mondstadt to participate in her puzzles and games.

“I guess my invitation to the spectacle must’ve gotten lost in the mail,” you state flatly before realizing that you hadn’t seen either of your friends that day because your sister had lured them away. The only thing that would’ve made Windblume tolerable was having a drink with Venti and bickering with Kaeya. It was already suspicious that she’d picked them, but the fact that she’d involved Diluc too felt like a deliberate slap in the face.

“She probably didn’t want you to miss Windblume since you haven’t attended one in so long,” Albedo reasons.

“Yeah,” you felt a little bad for taking your sour mood out on him, but thankfully he didn’t seem too offended.

“Diluc should be at the wine stand by now,” he nods politely before excusing himself.

You already knew you were foolish enough to go see him. It was Windblume and you didn’t see the harm in just getting a glimpse of him before going to find somewhere to hide yourself for the rest of the evening.

You underestimated how damaging a glimpse could be though. At first, it made you feel a little better to see his bright red hair and silly, dark, fancy clothes. But then he turned around and your heart fell into your stomach. He was holding a bundle of pink and white clover flowers. It wasn’t surprising that someone would give him a gift for Windblume. The disturbing part was that clover flowers weren’t easy to find. They were also the flower you knew your sister was most partial to. She had given Windblume flowers to Diluc.

“Are you kidding me?” You grit your teeth and turn away, not knowing if you were mad or just simply embarrassed that your sister could hold so much power over you without even showing her face.

Thankfully most of your things were at the adventurer’s guild because the last thing you wanted to do was go to your apartment and run into your sister. It wasn’t likely she was there but you weren’t taking any chances. You grab your backpack and turn in your adventurer’s uniform. You wouldn’t be doing any more commissions. In fact, you probably wouldn’t be back to Mondsadt at all.

You do your best to keep your head down as you head for the city gate, not wanting to have any awkward conversations with anyone about why you were leaving. You knew Venti and Kaeya would understand once they heard you were gone. They’d be perfectly fine without you, just like Mondstadt. You turn around just once to get a last look at the windmills that were iconic to the city and then close your eyes, listening to the laughter and chatter carrying on the wind. Mondstadt was a wonderful place, you just didn’t belong there.

Also just something, Paimon isn't that scared of the archons, even someone like Baal. But she's scared of and extremely polite to Diluc.

I wonder why is that? Compared to God's she only cowers when riches and food are involved, but with Diluc he just says things in a stern voice and she's already "On it M-master Diluc!" i think she even confides in the traveller that she's scared of him but not the reason why.

I don't remember if she's that scared of someone like Ayato tho, i don't even think she's that scared of Childe, she's scared of the Harbinger Tartaglia but not Ajax

But she's scared of Diluc and he hasn't given her any reason to be scared(I think)

Also Waaa I miss dadsleif... we need to bring it back

Dain coming around Mondstadt more to look over his grandkids, Bennett, Barbara, Fischl and Razor and maybe even Diona! Klee and Albedo by extension as his technical niece and nephew mayhaps due to Diluc's connection with Alice

But ouGH... Dadsleif and his grandkids... Dain protecting Bennett the best he can from his bad luck and even saving the poor kid... Imagine Dain finds out that Bennett got his vision when he nearly died i think he'd actually kill everyone on Celestia

Dain entertaining Fischl by playing along with her fantasy... and even understanding her bc he was a royal knight. He's a bit rusty but given time he can understand her completely

Dain doesn't get to see Razor much bc of Andrius at the start but maybe he helps deal with the Rifthound problem and gets the trust and mayhaps even help Diluc in teaching Razor some techniques or maybe they just camp in the wild together...

Then Barbara. Imagine being just some guy and then seeing This fancy and scary guy in blacks and blues with blond hairs and starry blue eyes shaking those concert glowsticks at Barbara's concert looking serious n all.

Wait IMAGINE ITS AN INSIDE JOKE THAT BC DAIN AND BARBARA ARE BOTH BLONDE BUT DIFF SHADES AND HAVE BLUE EYES THAT THEY'RE THE MOST RELATED LMAOO

Oughh imagining Dainsleif teaching them or singing to them Lullabies from Kheanriah and Barbara memorizing it and singing it back to Dainsleif whenever she's healing him to help calm him down

I imagine that bc Kheanriah was underground, i think they would've had a culture of singing bc of the echo effect there would be. So mayhaps from Dain's memory he would teach Barbara some songs of Kheanriah and he tears up at the fact he's teaching his new family how to sing his homeland's songs and maybe just maybe even if he disappears maybe he can live on in the songs they bring with them given by him...

Xiao: First Kiss HCs

When you and Xiao first got together. It was a slow and steady process of learning each other boundaries and what felt comfortable. Xiao knew he was a difficult partner but you loved him and even becoming his friend was a slow and worthwhile adventure. It started off small leading from small handholding, to cuddling, to showing each other affection. But the one area that you both weren’t familiar in was kisses. He was an isolated adepti and you were an adventurer. You didn’t have any experience in being kissed and Xiao sure as hell didn’t either. Plus it was a lot more intimate and nerve wracking compared to holding hands and that was an hard hill to tackle in itself.

You didn’t mind that he wasn’t comfortable with initiating affection or never went in or talked about kisses. You were just happy that he was by your side and that your love was reciprocated. That he was comfortable in your presence and seemed content in your arms. It still made you a bit giddy when you reflected on how far you both came and that was enough for you. Xiao, on the other hand, couldn’t exactly say the same. While he was happy and he was content, he couldn’t help but feel that maybe your relationship was too one-sided? He knew that you were comfortable and okay with waiting for him to work out his issues and figuring out how to love again but he also really wanted to do more. He just wasn’t sure how to start.

It suddenly dawned on him one day when he saw you off on your next journey, that he had never really kissed you. Even a small goodbye kiss. It was usually you initiating affection or giving words of love and you always told him that it didn’t matter if he said it or not. His actions said more which always made him flush a bit. But on slow and quiet days where you were off on another adventure and Liyue was calm, he couldn’t help but let his mind wander to you. To your face, your bright eyes that would light up whenever you talked about the interesting sights you saw on your journey, the curve of your nose whenever he tapped it when you started to ramble on to much, your lips and how they would spread into a soft smile when it was just the two of you.

Xiao quickly flipped himself up into a sitting position and groaned into his hands. What was happening to him? He needed to take a walk to clear his mind again. He’s been going out a lot since he met you. He had faced an army of demons and fought in a war and yet this felt like the hardest challenge of his entire thousand year long life. He could almost hear Guizhong’s laughter at his predicament and her words of wisdom saying to take whatever problem he had and face it head on. Just without his spear. The spear needs to stay home.

So the next time you visited Wangshu Inn he asked for you to close your eyes. You complied but you were surprised, sitting by the railing facing Liyue up on the balcony. Was he going to gift you something? This was the first time he asked you to close your eyes but you trusted him. You could almost feel the anxiety waving off Xiao so you kept quiet and patient and waited for him to be ready.

He was ready. He could do this. You weren’t even looking at him so what was there to be worried about? He slowly leaned in, just hovering above your lips. But then he leaned back a bit, flushing red. He nearly chewed his lip before stopping since you probably didn’t want to taste blood. It wasn’t that he wasn’t ready or he thought that you would hate it, he was just nervous in messing up. What if his accidently transformed? What if he accidently pushed you off the railing? Even worse, what if someone showed up and saw you both like this?

Turns out he didn’t need to worry. Somewhat. Zhongli, who Xiao knew now was actually Rex Lapis in disguise, made a sudden appearance behind him. The whiplash of suddenly seeing his Master, the nervous butterfly’s fluttering in his stomach, and pep talk Xiao was trying to pound into his mind made him suddenly lurch forward and kiss you deeply. A bit too deeply as his little fangs nipped at your bottom lip.

“Zhongli!?”

“Rex Lapis?!”

You both quickly broke apart as your eyes flew open when you heard the man but also surprise at the sudden but, not completely unpleasant, pain and pressure on your lips. You could almost see the soul leave Xiao’s body when he spun around to see the surprised Zhongli. It was silent for a moment, all three of you just staring at each other. You were still processing what the hell just happened, Xiao was trying to find a way to astral project, and Zhongli was computing the fact that yes, the ever grumpy and “don’t touch me” yaksha both had a lover and was in the middle of...courting.

“Oh. My apologies. I wasn’t aware you were both occupied. I shall take my leave and visit another day then.” Zhongli simply nodded and left before you or Xiao could say anything. You both stared at the empty figure of where Zhongli was before you started to burst into laughter at the situation. You really felt bad, you did honestly, but with all the overwhelming emotions you couldn’t help but laugh.

“I’m...sorry. I didn’t know he was going to visit today,” Xiao muttered as he pressed his hand into his face and groaned at the embarrassing moment. You could see the tips of his ears were getting redder by the second which made you chuckle. For such a fearsome Yaksha he was really cute sometimes.

“It’s okay Xiao. I don’t mind. But are you alright?” you stifled the last of your giggles and reached out to pull him closer and remove his hand from his red face before cupping his cheek. He huffed but leaned into your hand. He really was sometimes like a cat.

“Are you hurt? Was I...too forward?” Xiao asked but he still wouldn’t look you in the eye. The floor was very interesting this afternoon. Wood was nice. Wood was good.

“No! It was...nice,” you answered, starting to go a bit pink yourself now before you felt a stinging pain in the corner of your lip, “Ah. I think you might accidently bit my lip though.”

“I see,” Xiao was now looking at you with his piercing eyes as he watched your small pink tongue brush over the corner of your bottom lip. His attention began to focus on that small part as the world seem to narrow down. Just the two of you. But unlike when you both would lie on top of the inn and watch the sun go down he felt hungry.

“Do you-”

Before you could ask anything Xiao suddenly pounced and pressed his lips against yours in a heated kiss. He took you by surprise but you quickly recovered as you gripped the purple ribbon on his back and yanked him forward as his hands slammed against the railing, trapping you. You felt his tongue press against your lips as you slowly opened them to let him in. It was overwhelming and you were sure if you hadn’t been grabbing onto the purple ribbon you would have fell over but then a sudden deep rumble snapped you out of your trance.

“Xiao? Are you...Are you purring?” you giggled when you got a tiny but of separation from the lack of air but he frowned at you, really it looked more like a pout, before leaning over once again. Just barely brushing over your lips as he whispered

“Meow”

This isn’t even OOC anymore. I feel like I’m writing a fucking k-drama right now, what am I doing anymore? English? Huh? I do not compute.

I’ve just awakened something in me with Cat! Xiao and I am flying with it (and casually ignoring lore. Isn’t he a bird?). Heading straight for the stratosphere and you cannot stop me. Just gonna hide away in shame now don’t look at me.

Okay. Time to commit sleep for uh 2 hours lol. I’m really tired but I feel kinda proud of myself haha. Tomorrow’s fics are going to be Venti, Lisa and Diluc pairing, and Venti and Barbara pairing. Good night!

Oh, and yes there is a lot more Xiao content to come and uhh might continue this cat!xiao idea. Unless that’s too weird. I’m sorry don’t shame me pls 😰

cuz wings and stuff

when you guys wake up together in bed he'll place gentle kisses on them

land and air duo combat!

he loves going on missions and fighting together with you

everytime you use your wings he thinks it's the coolest thing ever

would brag to other people about his boyfriend having wings

i feel like he might ask you to carry him sometimes and fly around mondstat or around windrise during free time

diluc:

does not let anyone and i mean anyone touch your wings

very protective of you because he thinks it's such a precious thing to have

when you guys are alone he would brush your feathers and massage your wings if you're comfortable with it

in public he'll never admit anything but when it's just the two of you he'll cuddle the shit out of you lol

he will jump infront of you and take out his spear no hesitation

(unless its like zhongli but he's still protective about it)

and then he just makes those eyes to the other person that's like

zhongli:

unlike the others he's not surprised by your wings

mans knows venti lol he's used to wings and stuff

however he still thinks they're beautiful

zhongli as we all know it is not the flirty type

but he will buy you stuff

like tea, souvenirs if you're not local to liyue, treats

all from childe and hutaos wallet ofc

like to take you to the top of qingyun peak

it's a really calm place and he just wants to relax with you while he drinks tea and as long as your beside him he'll be happy

xiao was incredibly cautious of you when you guys first got together

the second you get close to zhongli he's like basically on your ass

but zhongli will tell him to back off

xiaos also confused asf cuz he doesn't understand why zhongli is so friendly with you and attracted to your wings so much but he gets it eventually

all in all zhongli loves your wings but he's not the nesscarily the exciting type in relationships but he'll manage to express his love for you one way or another

Okay so

I’m gonna go with some thoughts I have regarding which characters I have ideas for design wise + some misc meta™️ information lmao

Though the only “meta” I have is that this entire au came from a dream I had where mhy did a genshin crossover event like the horizon zero dawn event with Aloy but instead of that they did a crossover with bloodborne, hence all my gotdamn references BJDBDKXBX

So anyways, regarding how the change “spreads” I like to think that Mondstadt got it first, and in Mondstadt it spreads quickly but is the least (relatively) painful compared to the other two (known) nations due to the fact they were the one to essentially “shoot first”

(More under the cut because this will get long)

(Also a general warning because there’s gonna be lots of body horror described, and favorite characters suffering a whole lot)

Liyue has the “slowest” spread but it’s the most painful, mirroring Zhongli, the Qixing, and the adepti’s persistence

Lastly, Inazuma has the fastest spread so to speak, the pain varies but they usually have the most “monstrous” transformations compared to the other two

Going into character specifics, I’ll start with the archons before moving onto a select few

Venti, you know about biblically correct angels? You know what seraph’s jobs basically are? Yeah then you probably know where I’m going with this. Venti essentially becomes Mondstadt’s first biblically correct seraph, made to continuously sing “praises” to god, however unlike seraphs, Venti is not immune to the fire that comes with it

My original venti concept had him literally fusing with dvalin, ala bloodborne Ludwig fusing with his horse™️ but it didn’t really fit too much so it got scrapped

Zhongli I’m still not quite sure on, but maybe something like a mix between dark souls’s gaping dragon and a hydra? Something something, dragon’s greed + regular sagau’s zhongli’s desires to keep us/darling teapotted forever = something about gluttony and greed with all the heads and the giant body mouth

Ei is an interesting case because there’s She™️ and the Raiden shogun, so let’s start with Ei first-

Due to the fact that she’s in her plane all the time + generally refuses to intervene, she becomes a literal phantom/ghost, losing the ability to touch or really interact with people. Toss in the tantalus myth punishment and now Ei cannot eat or drink despite still feeling a need to eat and drink.

On the flip side, the Raiden shogun starts off only by becoming more literally doll/puppet-like, ball jointed, a nutcracker-esque mouth, strings that lead to nowhere, etc etc. however as the imposter hunt decree continues, it becomes... more mangled so to speak, extra limbs coming out from places they shouldn’t be, a new head starts to grow in, etc etc, and in between all the joints and new limbs, you can see stings of red flesh between the cracks

Something like a mix between Tomie from junji ito, and the mannequin spider/monster from silent hill. Eventually I like to think something either like crystal marrow or electro crystals begin forming on the shogun’s back, eventually leading to it becoming immobile and crushed under its own weight, but still alive

Now enough of the archons, time for everyone else! (More or less the select few I have brainworms for)

I like to think most of Mondstadt would have more like, gargoyle or harpy-like transformations, with for example: Jean falling into the gargoyle category and Diluc falling into the harpy category + obligatory howls moving castle inspirations tossed in (aka howl’s monster form)

Everyone, regardless, probably loses access to their visions, but in the sense that they literally FUSE with their element

Diluc’s ribcage starts to split, tearing skin and flesh until his heart and organs are exposed, now burning hot as his heart becomes the literal source of his flames. If he’s closed off emotionally, at least now he can be open physically

Eula head begins to burn from her growing horns in the way only extreme cold can burn, her fingers, legs, extremities begin to grow numb and cold, as a unstoppable frostbite begins to take them. Icy claws replacing her once dainty hands, both too strong and too fragile. She is no longer able to use her claymores

Razor didn’t do anything wrong but due to pure favoritism and “I think he deserves it” he gets to have actual wolf ears and a tail after a night (all painless of course because he’s the goodest boy)

Liyue is mostly safe (from me) because I’m brain empty on ideas for them, but they aren’t safe from YALLS ideas- /hj /lh

But I like to think Ningguang specifically becomes a literal gem™️, due to her desire for mora and prosperity for liyue. But I don’t really have much outside of that, outside of houseki no kuni type gem physics, or something like these two pieces of fanart by a really neat artist

(Insert obligatory hnk anime promo here because GOD the anime adaptation is SO GOOD for a 3d animated anime....)

Inazuma also unfortunately falls under the “head empty vibes only” category as well, but they’d probably all most likely turn into a form of yokai or another. Though the only true yokai-esque idea I have is Ayaka turning into a yuki-onna lmao

Kokomi starts to grow scales and gills, not too alarming considering her origins and such, but soon enough her skin becomes drier, peeling off in sheets and she struggles to breathe. Her new gills only half work, she cannot breathe in air or water, rejected by both land sea. Her fear only begins to grow as she feels her legs fuse into a tail by the days

Something something, werewolf thoma? Cerberus (painful) gorou?? Actual howls moving castle monster howl Kujou Sara???

I don’t really know how to end all this rambling but uhhhhh

Almost everyones fucked, darling’s living their best life, the kids and the ones who helped or didn’t hurt darling physically or mentally are safe
