ONE HEADCANON FOR EVERY II CHARACTER!

Hello everyone!!!!!^^ For a little holiday season special, I’ve typed out a little headcanon for every character!!! By character I mean contestants + host + assistants!!!!! Sorry to all the Nick Le fans out there, he is not included. Since everyone is here, there are characters I may not know as well as my main roster, so if I get anything like, objectively wrong, feel free to let me know!!!^^ Please enjoy!!! (ﾉ´ヮ`)ﾉ*: ･ﾟ

Apple- Her favorite song is Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan. She doesn’t really understand the lyrics but she really likes ponies!!!! I also think she’d start misspelling her name as “Appell” pretty often after she finds the song. 

Balloon- The first thing Suitcase does with her prize money is buy him a poetry book. He is so very moved by this and writes her dozens of poems with various styles he sees in the book within a few days. He’d read from the book and his own works to Suitcase every night before they go to bed. Some others could join in for a nice bedtime story :). 

Baseball- Once, while the hotel was under construction, Baseball fell down the stairs. And then kept rolling. And rolling. And bouncing. And rolling some more. Overall it set construction back two weeks and Paintbrush broke their leg trying to help stop him. Baseball was banned from the hotel until the elevators were finished. 

Bomb- He can’t eat spicy food. As in he’s banned from eating spicy food. If he gets too hot, he can accidentally set himself off, so despite his claim that he has a great spice tolerance, he is not allowed anywhere near the hot sauce. He doesn’t complain about the ban anymore post-canon, too risky, yeah? 

Bow- She watches so very many makeup tutorials, but being a ghost, can’t practice any of it on herself. That is, unless she possesses someone, like Marsh who would be very easy to put makeup on relative to other objects!!! She’d probably get pretty good at it, after some time, and Marsh would have some lovely new eyeshadow looks every day! 

Knife- He has a longer ghost tail than Dough and Bow do, so I propose him wrapping said tail around people and things he likes!!! Wraps around Pickle when they’re standing next to each other, wraps around Suitcase’s handle when they’re together, etc.!!! He’d get rather flustered if anyone called him out on it. 

Lightbulb- Gives incredible hugs. Incredible. How does an object made of glass and metal give such cuddly, warm hugs? Nobody knows. Sometimes she’ll turn herself on during the hug to make it extra warm!! As long as the person she’s hugging closes their eyes, it really elevates the already sacred experience of a Lightbulb hug. Luckily for everyone else, she is always happy to give one!^^

Marshmallow- She’s still pyrophobic after having been burnt all those years ago. As a very flammable marshmallow, fire would be scary to her anyways, but after having been roasted it’s a whole other story. She’d rather freeze than get close to a fire, but that’s not a problem since there’s a certain fruit always willing to warm her up with a hug <3!!

Nickel- He became very, very, very nervous to give his apology to Suitcase after she blew up Cobs and ate his corpse. He was planning to apologize either way, but clearly Suitcase could absolutely obliterate him if she wanted to do so, which means this apology has to be quite good or else. He has a serious amount of respect for her now. An upgrade, I’d say. 

OJ- His favorite Pokémon is Charizard. It’s orange, it’s very popular, OJ loves it. I know Justin has made a list of the contestant’s favorite Pokemon, but I have not read it in a while so Charizard it is!!!

Paintbrush- Experiments a lot with their image after season 3, mostly by dyeing their bristles with paint!!! Lightbulb helps :3!!! And by helps I mean makes it silly and very fun. Maybe she puts a little dot between Painty’s eyes to give them a “nose”. I think they’d try a solid color first, then maybe a fade, and eventually dye the nonbinary flag into their hair!!! They slay it of course. 

Paper- Pickle once wrote “Property of OJ” on Paper’s back and he didn’t notice for three days. No one told him it was there. When he asked everyone why in the world they would not inform him they said it was because they all thought OJ had written it and he was keeping it because he liked it. OJ did not know why Paper avoided eye contact with him for a week that one time but he did not like it. 

Pepper- Hotel OJ head chef. Yeah you heard me. Let me cook by letting her cook!! Salt wouldn’t like cooking, too much work, so this is something Pepper could enjoy on her own!! And it would be the sole reason that OJ has not yet kicked Salt out of the hotel- if he does than Pepper might be too sad to cook, and with the depressingly low amount of hotel residents that can make food, and the even smaller amount who are willing to make enough food for everyone, they need her. And, if Payjay help out, they can spend more time with her and get to know and enjoy her presence without Salt ruining it!

Pickle- With some help from Tea Kettle and Pepper, he makes Knife a new Dora doll post-finale, since it vanished with the rest of the stuff made by MeLife. He lets Knife possess him if he wants to hug the doll, but it also gets possessed by Knife so he can hug Pickle. Ah shit sorry my Knickle got all over the headcanon dang it. 

Salt- I headcanon her as the only cisgender, straight, alloromantic (I think that’s the right term?) member of the cast. Basically the only one who isn’t queer at all. But uh an actual headcanon for the ~60 or so Salt fans out there, both she and Pepper sleep with those little hair bonnets on to keep their salt and pepper from falling out of their heads in their sleep. 

Taco- This one is fitting for the winter season!! Taco is afraid of snow. Like, straight up terrified. I think she would grab a bunch of blankets and hide in the vents of the mansion whenever it snows, so she can be inside of the inside, as far and safe from the snow as she can be!! Having been homeless for years, she’s had some miserable experiences with hypothermia after it snows, and now that she has a home to live in, she’ll be staying inside until all the snow has melted. 

Mephone- I think he should have a pet bug post-canon. A little beetle or something that just chills on his head and feasts on the many crumbs he gets on himself while he eats. An intelligent one, like Baxter!!! Since we know Mephone will be stepping up into the more ‘big brother’ sort of role for 3GS, I think the bug would be a good outlet for Mephone to talk about his more intense feelings, specifically revolving around Mepad and the contestants. I also think, following his very creative naming of the contestants, the bug would be named Buggy. 

Box- I think she would be an insomniac. After years and years of living in an empty, timeless void-space thing, she’d have a lot of trouble getting to sleep!! She’d definitely need the whole works, warm milk, cheese, lullabies, etc., etc., just to get to sleep, and even then she probably wouldn’t sleep for very long. A lot of nightmares on this one, yeah? 

Cheesy- I think he’d actually quite enjoy eating cheese, as long as it’s not a chunk like he is. He’ll eat nachos, pizza, mozzarella sticks, grilled cheese, etc., etc., but he will not eat cheese cubes. He’d make approximately 5 cannibal jokes every time he does this, and this average goes up to 8 if Pickle is around. 

Cherries- They give Toilet their old Mepad mask post-canon, to try and make him feel better. Toilet might hang out with them a bit more after this- they can do some drawing together!! The more prank-buddies, the merrier, yeah? 

Dough- He eventually did get the recording of Bow saying that he was her brother!! Was it a cut-off version of her denying it yet again (though this time more playfully than anything)? Yes. Does that make him any less happy about having it? No. 

Fan- Out of everyone, he’s the most upset about II ending, and wants to find a new special interest!! He’d try a whole bunch of things, games, music, movies, TV shows, art, and I think it would be funny if he settled on the ii-universe equivalent of Survivor, since it was such a big inspiration for II!! He’d also occupy himself with being very interested in whatever Test Tube is doing and cheering her on!!! Also being a good Dad to Bot!!^^

Microphone- Has, on occasion, accidentally had her volume button pressed in her sleep and woke not only herself but everyone in the vicinity up with her snoring. The first time it happens post-canon it takes her a half-hour to get a very startled and scared but very sleepy and confused Taco to come out from her hiding spot under the bed. 

Soap- Her soap is french vanilla and rose scented!!! She’d find her own scent rather pleasant, yeah? I think being empty for her would have a similar effect on her as it does on objects like OJ and Test Tube, though if she’s in a real pinch she will use her own soap to get clean!! Letting someone use her soap would be a sweet gesture of love/appreciation from her!!!

Suitcase- Balloon would write her a lot of poems once they’re back together post-canon, and she’d keep them all inside of her!! She’d keep a lot of special little gifts from important people inside of her. The stone that Knife set beside her the first time they spoke on the docks, a dried flower bracelet from Box, whatever suits her fancy! (Get it? Ge- ‘cause she’s a suitcase? okay ill leave).

Test Tube- I think she would make phones for everyone post-canon!!!^^ It’s a big island, yeah? And they really need to be able to contact each other in case of emergency, with them being able to truly die now. She could make a functioning rocket out of a vending machine, I fully believe she could make however-many functioning phones out of what she can find on the island. (Or even better, Mepple HQ. I think they all should loot it.)

Tissues- He likes coding :) I personally hate coding, because I sucked at it in school and never want to look at one of those evil “easy kids coding” websites ever again. HOWEVER coding is something he could still do while he’s feeling sick, most of the time!! And we have quite a few gamers living in the hotel, so it would be a great way for him to connect with others!!!

Trophy- He always enjoyed photography as a hobby, but very much threw himself into it after being freed from the elimination closet. After months of seeing nothing but the snotty closet walls, he had a lot more appreciation for scenic and natural photographs. He’d hang a lot of them on the wall of his room to look at as he sleeps, since the rooms don’t have windows. 

Yin-Yang- This one is from my partner @galacticrain!! Because I consider them my resident yin-yang expert^^ Yang isn’t actually gluten free, like he says in season 2 episode 5, he just knew that Yin would confess to the eating of Dough if he put any ounce of pressure on him to tell the truth. 

Mepad- Another cold weather hc! As a Mepple device, he doesn’t really get cold! However, during their first winter together, Toilet worries that Mepad has no winter clothing!!! He buys Mepad one of those super fluffy, pink cases. Mepad does not take it off for months, until his systems start to overheat because of it. 

Toilet- I think he would be rather curious about what having limbs is like. He wouldn’t be particularly upset about his own lack of limbs, just curious!^^ He would ask Mepad about his legs, (try to) ask Mephone about his arms, and maybe make a little doodle of himself with a lot of limbs. A biblically accurate Toilet, if you will.

Blueberry- I like to think his white eyes glow a bit. He functions best in pitch-black darkness, yeah? So imagine you’re walking in the dark and two white eyes are staring at you from the depths. He would love scaring people with it, I think. 

Bot- Hanging out with everyone post-season 3 finale and even more so post-canon, they discover that they really do love videogames, similar to what they told Cabby!! They would absolutely dominate in fighting games, and would main R.O.B. in Super Smash Bros.!!! A fellow robot with a 3 letter name? Sign them UP. 

Cabby- She is endlessly fascinated by how Taco’s arms work. They just…go back in? How? Could she pull them out backwards? Both on the same side? Could she reverse them? Taco does not know either, and the two of them spend a full day together just trying to figure out how they work. Cabby gets a lot of new info about them, and Taco in general, after that :). I’m projecting but I think Cabby would be curious too.^^

Candle- Her meditation training post-canon is what keeps like half the cast from losing their minds after everything that happens. She is very very much needed after… all that. Meditation would help her too, of course, in the way that it usually does, but being so helpful would probably make her feel better than that. 

Clover- She was once blown across the entire island because someone dropped a penny on the ground. It was a particularly shiny penny, though, and the year was one her many, many lucky numbers!!

Goo- My little fella!!! Uh obviously he and Bot would make comics together. They like to draw, he likes to write, it’s perfect!!!! They could help him condense his writing down into a comic format as well!!! They could also make fanart and fanfics together!!! Goo would be a shipper I think he already ships Silver and Painty if you sit that little guy down in front of Steven Universe he will explode. 

Lifering- With everyone losing their immortality post-canon, he quickly becomes one of the most popular among the contestants. Twisted your ankle? Go see Lifering. Migraine? Go see Lifering. Ate the mushrooms that Taco very clearly told you were poisonous? Hurry to Lifering!! He’s happy to be of so much help, but gives some long and rather informative lectures on proper safety checks. 

Silver Spoon- Fills his room with candles. Particularly purple ones. And ones scented with lavender and chamomile. He’ll go on and on about how much he loves candles. Particularly purple ones scented with lavender and chamomile. No one can tell if Candle is trying to politely turn him down or really hasn’t noticed. He progressively gets more and more obvious with his candle collection and nearly sets a building on fire. 

Tea Kettle- #1 Nickloon shipper. I’m serious. Whether they get together or not, she ships it. I don’t think she’d be pushy about it, insistent that they get together if they’re interested in other people, but… we know silly Nickel, always chasing a Balloon. And if he needs a little help catching it, TK will be there in a flash!!!! She’d make them a little romantic picnic complete with hors d’oeuvres! 

The Floor- My guy The Floor still visits Mephone almost daily post-canon. I really don’t see the guy being super upset or holding a grudge over Mephone having made him. He’s pretty cool, if he does say so himself!!^^ And they’re buddies, anyways, so Floory would want to check in on him after his abusive father killed everyone and then was exploded!!!! He might even befriend 3GS while he’s at it :).

Leon S. Kennedy Headcanons

• Falls in love too easily, too hard

Leon doesn’t fall in love in a casual way. He’s just got this aching need to connect. A soft heart in a harsh world.

• Keeps to himself, not because he wants to be alone, but because he’s scared

Leon wants to be close to people, but he's terrified of losing them. He's lost too much already. So he keeps people at a distance, pretends he prefers solitude, but the truth is, he’s lonely.

• Can’t sleep in silence

The quiet gets too loud. His thoughts spiral, what ifs, regrets, things he should’ve said or done differently. So he listens to music, a podcast, the soft hum of city noise, something to fill the silence and anchor him to the now.

• Leon loves being the little spoon

The second someone wraps their arms around him from behind, he goes quiet and soft, like all his tension just disappears. You hold him? He’s not moving. You’re stuck. He will cling back like a sleepy koala. Because no one ever really held him first. And now that someone does? He never wants to let it go.

• Sleeps like a starfish on the bed

He’s lanky and somehow ends up diagonally across the mattress, one leg off the bed, blanket tangled like he fought it. If someone tries to share a bed with him, they’ll wake up clinging to the edge while Leon is dead asleep like a corpse in a crime scene outline.

• Panick attacks

He’s learned to mask them, deep breaths, gripping his own wrist hard enough to ground himself, counting things he can see, pretending he’s fine. But sometimes, when it gets too much, he disappears for a moment. No one really knows. He doesn’t want to be a burden

• Sings to himself when no one’s listening

Especially when he is cooking. He knows he’s corny, but he doesn’t care. There’s something healing about singing.

• Leon is 1000% a girl dad

Learned how to braid hair immediately. Watched tutorials. Practiced on a Barbie. Wears tiny glitter stickers on his face because “she wanted to make me pretty.” Goes to tea parties in full tactical gear. Sits criss-cross applesauce on the floor like a champ. Gives the softest bedtime cuddles, tells stories with voices and sound effects, falls asleep before she does. Lets her paint his nails and struts around showing them off like “check these out. She did them. She’s an artist.”

• Kind of a loser growing up

He was that quiet kid in the back of the class with the scuffed-up shoes and secondhand backpack. Shy, awkward, always hoping someone would talk to him first. No one really bullied him, but no one really saw him either.

• Uses zero products, has the silkiest hair

It’s the universe’s way of saying sorry for everything else. No conditioner, no hair masks, nothing, and yet, his hair looks like it belongs in a shampoo commercial. His coworkers are bitter.

• Still keeps every letter and note Claire ever gave him

He says it’s because she’s like a sister, but really, it’s because those notes reminded him he wasn’t alone. That someone cared. He re-reads them on bad nights. They’re a lifeline.

• Says “ow” even when things don’t hurt

He can get thrown across a room, stabbed, dropkicked through a window, and he’ll just grunt like “hnng.” Not even a flinch. But bangs his elbow lightly? “Ow.” Drops keys on his foot? “Ow.” Bumps into a chair? “Ow.” It’s a reflex.

• Affectionate Drunk Leon (Before the Trauma)

One drink in and he was hugging everyone, calling them his best friend, and complimenting strangers with wide, honest eyes. He’d lean on people and say things like “You’re so cool, you know that?” with a sleepy smile. After everything that happened, he stopped letting himself get that vulnerable. But every now and then, like when he's with Claire, bits of that old Leon come back.

• Talks to inanimate objects constantly

Full-on conversations. “Okay, fridge, what have we got?” or “Don’t betray me, coffee machine. I need you.”

• Kind to strangers in quiet ways

He holds the door open, carries groceries for old ladies, helps a lost tourist without a second thought.

• Teenage Leon danced hip-hop in high school (it canon, idk)

Ever since I had that dream of Leon dancing to NSYNC on Claire's wedding, it’s canon in head. Not like… professional or anything. But he was so into it. Baggy hoodie, sneakers, cropped shirt, headphones in, dancing in empty hallways after class or in front of his cracked bedroom mirror.

(Btw I am still considering turning this into a oneshot, lol)

Painted another corpse fanatic today, so captured the process if some of you were interested. Yes, I still need to finish the base.

1. Base coat in scarlet/ rhinox hide mix

2. Black / khorne red stripes

3. As before, but make a lattice.

4. In the cross sections paint a black square.

5. A thin line vertical of Averland Sunset and white. I do this a bit bold, don't worry we'll knock em back in a bit.

6. As before, but horizontal

7. Using black, create a thin lattice in the scarlet boxes, vertical and horizontal.

8. Get brave. Apply a coat of matt varnish. Let it dry and cover in AK Streaking Grime. Let this dry and with a brush and white spirit brush to the bottom of the model.

9. Apply an oil wash of black and brown. As before let dry and dab off.

You're done. Add pigments if you like for extra dirt.

15 cm doll test, he'll get his sparkly blue encore jacket once I finish the prototype. His face is hand embroidered using Piyopicco's tutorials on YT. The facepaint is sponged on using a stencil and fabric paint, it's cracked a bit and has some uneven edges but im glad it's semi-worked to avoid embroidering tedious ass corpse paint designs underneath more embroidery lol

Character's face

I experimented many times in order to get the ideal face for the character model, initially basing it as far more creepy and sinister, due to my influence form Little Nightmares. My initial idea was actually to make one of the enemies, a Goblin, instead of the main character, but I changed my mind after making it accidentally too realistic.

Though I was very impressed with how it was going, after taking a minute to actually see what the outcome was, I noticed it was far too detailed for the visual idea I had in mind.

My next attempt was to model the main character himself, though I didn't really have any idea on what he was going to look like, other than the fact I kept to the exaggerated features from the youtuber Ace of Clay, and the first video I seen on his channel.

I came across his channel due to the fact I knew I wanted my game to be a clay style, and found his work when researching clay models tutorials on youtube, and found this. The large nose was implemented into this template.

While I was a huge fan of the way this was going, I felt it still didn't hit right, but I couldn't tell why or what I was looking for so badly. After some thinking, I decided a part of it is due to how harsh some of the facial features are, and I began to envision the main character as ore soft, to emphasise his youth and the fact the character isn't exactly a bad person. I envisioned him as quite a calm character, so I needed to reflect that on his appearance. I came across looking at the characters from corpse bride, due to their softer appearances, and decided this was a far better option to base the this model off of.

As you can see, this character has much softer features, beside his triangular face, and his slender body also really worked for my game due to the build my main character has also being skinny.

That's when I ended up with this, a much more rounded face shape to show the mellow nature of the character, to deviate him from a stereotypical heroic looking hero. I kept the same premise of the nose in the sense of the way it sticks out, but simplified the model far more and made it a lot more smooth. I am far more happy with this outcome.

I changed the face and skin colour again, this time testing a more exhausted style to the character to show the state his life has put him in, alongside adding a stubble to him.

This is the other version of the character's face, which is named "HeadStubble" and you can see his exhaustion in his eyes. I had originally envisioned him to have this anyway, and the stubble has been a thought for a while now. I think this version is nice, but maybe looks to exhausted for the way he'd be used in the game, and the outcome of the character. It adds a sense of maturity to the character whilst still hinting at his youth, which I think is good as I envisioned the character to be quite mature. I did come across an issue when it came to texture painting where while the face did go black after making a new texture, I couldn't edit it. As it turns out, I simply forgot something simple I needed to do in order to get it to work.

This is the website I found that recapped me really quickly and allowed me to work on and paint the model's face.

Due to Blender crashing and the file not saving correctly I have to now redo the face and his stubble features, which I did so fairly quickly.

I also added some brown paint under his hair to suggest an undercut, which I think worked really well.

I also added back the tired eyes of the model using purple and black and blurring it together.

When it came to the hair, which I made before the project started, I used a curve modifier on a path and added a cube for the reference to get its shape, and I went through each one and individually adjusted their shape until I was satisfied. I then converted them into a mesh, and this is where my problem occurred. The mesh had far too many faces, which meant future editing would be far more complex.

Though this would make for very smooth hair animations, it has more faces on each hair strand than I think it does on the head, which is far too many, though for now this won't be an issue.

DaThings - probably my favorite YTP creator, usually on random ass gameshows, cooking shows, etc

Haley Whipjack - talks for hours with her white board and post it notes explaining the things I really care about such as Ice Age movies, Once Upon a Time, and every single piece of media in the Shrek franchise. You can tell she is a tired school teacher.

Zoe Bee - top tier video essayist about school-related/academic topics

gabi belle - more silly video essayist on miscellaneous media topics (e.g. Kitchen Nightmares, Papyrus font, infomercials)

Britta Food4Dogs - Sweet Old Lady shows you her massive JRPG collection and talks about her favorite RPGs, manga, etc

verilybitchie - video essayist on various bisexual and/or trans topics, especially in media

Athena P - watches entireties of young kids shows and unravels their lore for you

hazel - my favorite, most cozy videos about old and obscure anime I've probably never heard of

JazzyGuns - let's player of actions games, visual novels, horror games, basically anything (she is black!)

Karliene - songwriter and singer who makes lots of video game based songs

Red Bard - video essays about weird anime and convention drama and oddities and history

mklachu - self-described mother of otomatones.

For perhaps obvious reasons I have been spending more time on youtube recently and I decided to go through my almost 200 subscriptions (many of whom don't post any more) only to find to my horror that only like 12 of them were primarily/woman-hosted youtube channels. And 3 of them don't post anymore.

Somnium Files 1 spoilers.

I want to talk a bit about Date’s Somniums/Somnii (well, his one Somnium and the tutorial dream).

It’s very telling of Date as a person that the rules of his Somnii are based on color. 

The Somnii of characters are all reflective of key aspects of themselves, for example, Iris’ Somnii are fundamentally informed by 1) her passions, that is, streaming (particularly ShovelForge), dancing, mythology, and the occult as the foundation to her psyche, 2) her delusions, the flawed perception of reality that comes as a side effect of her brain tumor, to which her love for the occult feeds, and 3) her fear of her coming death, which mixes with her passion for mythology to create an escapism where the Fruit of Immortality may save her. There’s a cohesive connection between Who Iris Is and What Iris Is. The same goes for Saito, whose Somnii all take place in ideal locales for murder (abandoned warehouses and factories), and all necessitate revisiting either his childhood of killing animals, represented by childish drawings of animals being brutalized in various ways, or his latest ‘achievements’, the Cyclops Serial Killings both old and new. The foundation of both of these is, again, passion. The only way Saito knew any sort of joy was when killing. It was quite essentially all he lived for.

If we do a cursory look of other Somnii, passion paints an important picture and plays and important role in all of them: Ota’s love for tokusatsu makes his Somnium play out like a toku fight, Ota’s mom focuses on the moments with her family, both the sad and the joyful, and even Mizuki’s Somnium, the one most colored with sorrow and trauma (it took place shortly after discovering her own mother’s corpse, after all), takes place in the park that housed the sole happy memory she had with her parents, and some parts of the Somnium allude to this joy and how important that is for Mizuki. The grand exception would be Hitomi’s Somnium and Rohan’s Somnium, which are entirely rooted in past regrets and sorrows. One could say these overpower their passions at that point in their lives.

So, we return to Date, Date Kaname, our dirtbag of a man, sleazy ass cheeky piece of shit, lovably charming loser. For all of this and more that he is, however, it’s easy to miss something essential about Date, something that also makes him stick out among the gallery of amnesiac protagonists: He’s happy. He’s perfectly happy where he is, he is not wholly uninterested in his past, but he doesn’t pursue it, either. He’s very content where he is in life. He likes Boss. He likes Aiba. He likes Mizuki. He likes Reika from the cabaret club and her fat thighs. He likes Mama. He likes hitting the bar with his drinking buds such as Okiura and Shoko. Date is in a good place... More than that, he’s thankful.

As the dream tutorial immediately shows us, there’s plenty of subconscious memories he is not even remotely aware of inside of him, of his past life, and even in these, the prime directive of his Somnii, the foundation, the passion, is represented by color.

In the Dream, it’s color that leads the way and dictates what can and cannot be interacted with. Date’s Somnii are very straightforward because he has nothing to hide, and what he is hiding, he doesn’t even know of. We see the stew, we see drawing Iris made of the Okonomiyaki Incident, we take a peek inside of Iris’ toy box where she keeps her UFO toys and occult magazines, right before being thrust into the completely colorless scene of ‘Rohan’ shooting at ‘Falco’, accidentally injuring Hitomi in the incident. Completely colorless, because what’s done is done and there’s nothing he can do about it, the guilt being such that even in his dreams, he cannot change those events. The main characters of this deep dream, however, were the good times, lingering as fractal memories that Date has no easy access to.

In the Somnium proper, when Mizuki is Psycing with the comatose Date, color once again dictates the rhythm. It’s no coincidence that his Dream took place where he considered home as Yagyu -- the Sagan Household -- and that his Somnium proper takes places where he, as Date, considers home, the Date Household: Domestic joy and stability is invaluable to him, again, he’s thankful. He has no memories of his days as a vigilante assassin, but the associated emotions linger, he wanted out of that life, he wanted to simply live a nice and peaceful life. As Date, that is exactly what he has. That’s what the ever caring Boss made sure he got. His passions are his peaceful, fun days with Aiba and Mizuki. Getting in fights, arguing, joking around, making up, going for disgusting stew, awkwardly greeting each other, covertly doing good things for each other, never honest, always earnest, a domestic routine, a life as regular as can be, despite the eccentricities of the events themselves (such as regularly diving into people’s heads and having an eye that’s also a buddy).

It’s precisely because Date has nothing to hide that his Somnii are so incredibly linear, he’s not making any secret of his memories, he is, in fact, proudly showing them. Unlike the other Somnii, where one has to do puzzles and use esoteric dream logic to peel each layer away, Date’s Somnii is basically a tour. He’s showcasing an exhibition of memories dear to him. Even the moments that were no doubt stressful, such as Mizuki throwing a tantrum or, worse yet, throwing his police badge out of the window, are regarded as dear and frankly fun memories. There’s no shortage of them. And eventually, when Mizuki does reach the innermost sanctum of the Somnium, a black void where he stands opposite to Okiura and Shoko, the negativity and sadness he keeps buried under so much happiness and color, it’s all born from a feeling of guilt towards Mizuki, believing himself insufficient as a guardian for her. “She should have her proper parents, I don’t stand a chance, is this the best for Mizuki?” In the end, it’s not that he doesn’t want to take care of her, it’s that he’s unconvinced that he’s the best option, and that maybe he’ll screw up and Mizuki won’t be the best version of herself.

Which is such a mundane and completely understandable inner sorrow to have! Of course you care for the ones you love, especially when you suspect it might be you that’s holding them back! End of the day, Date is many things, but the most important of them is that he’s a fun-loving, caring dude of all time. He’s a pathetic garbage dirtbag man that blows his money pouring ponzu between Reika’s thighs and can’t see anything but a pair of tits behind the reception desk at Lemniscate, but he’ll go through hell and back (silently and without ever admitting it, of course) for those he loves.

It all ties to one of the other biggest themes in Somnium Files: “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb”. With the exception of the Matsushita family, every single family by blood relation in Somnium Files is a strained mess, and to contrast, every single family tied together by love for each other rather than by blood -- Hitomi and Iris, Date, Aiba and Mizuki, even Rohan and Moma! -- is healthy and loving as can be.

To wrap this up, I do want to call attention to something important that is referred to very subtly in both the Dream and the Somnium:

In the Dream, Date can instruct Aiba to wear the box on her head. When she does, the box also covers the skeleton’s head. As we learn much, much later, the skeleton with the bleeding left eye socket represents Date’s old life, Yagyu.

In the Somnium, when Mizuki find Date in the innermost sanctum of his psyche, Date’s left eye is yellow, or in other words, Aiba.

In the Dream, Aiba wearing the box on her head puts it on the skeleton as well because Date considers Aiba as a literal part of himself, and is not whole without her, ergo, her wearing the box is essentially him also wearing the box, and in the Somnium, Date doesn’t have his proper eye or his eye closed, and has Aiba very clearly in there, because, again, his image of the self is simply not complete without her.

Date loves Mizuki and Aiba so much that they are inseparable from his deepest memories, psyche, and even sense of self. He is not only the dude of all time, he is the tsundere of all time (who happens to love his tsundere foster daughter Mizuki and his tsundere best friend-slash-literal part of his body Aiba).

Tate's never had his makeup done and would reeeeeally enjoy sharing that with a Player he trusts!

LAILA: Immediately complain that you're going to ruin her makeup UNLESS you totally looked up a super sick tutorial beforehand, OR Laila trusts your own makeup skills, in which case she'd be suuuuuper cute and happy to share this with you! Laila would totally turn it into a sleepover style (gender-neutral) girl talk experience and would be waaaay more open to opening up with you - and DEFINITELY would wanna do YOUR eyeliner, too!

SAWYER: He'd definitely be amused, but find it so cute he'd take his mask off and let you do it (although you'd have to be the one sitting on HIS lap) - aaaand he'd be holding onto the Player the whole time! Will occasionally stream but relies more on videos he can edit.

Lots of cool effects in his videos - the intro is never skipped by anyone.

When he’s not gaming with Yoosung, Seven is mainly doing reviews on materialistic things.

He’s a super mysterious YouTuber because no one knows anything about him. No one can find anything if they tried.

Everyone loves to put his videos on in the background since his voice is really soothing. Especially when he’s painting very quietly.

There are a few videos where he teaches certain techniques with both photography and painting, like lighting and settings.

As a photographer, it was hard to clearly see feedback on his works or talk with fans. Thankfully, YouTube changed that.

It took him a while to ease into it, but he loves engaging with subscribers and asks questions on social media all the time.

Reshares any and all artwork made for him to give his honest opinions, which are all lovely.
