first off.

first. THEIR DYNAMIC ONLY IMPROVES. it’s clear that callum and rayla are becoming closer in this season, as we see how rayla has become a bit protective of callum. FOR EXAMPLE, we see that claudia and soren try to use a sleep spell on her, but she resists it with a rose thorn. after they fight, callum shows up and after him being a Pining Dumbass with claudia (and both rayla and soren being fucking done with them), we see that rayla is DEADSET ON NOT TRUSTING THEM

they argue about this over and over, and rayla insists they can’t trust them. callum understands that she believes it, but he’s known claudia and soren for years. “yOu AnD i DoNt HaVe ThAt YeT” *looks at s3* LIAR!

and then we get to the conflict. callum hears from claudia that harrow is dead, and rayla’s like “Oh Fuck” and then rayla tries to explain herself and admits that she was in the wrong. callum isn’t exactly angry at rayla (while he is a bit), he’s wondering how to tell ezran their dad is gone.

the next scene we have with both of them is CALLUM SEEKING COMFORT IN RAYLA

once again. “YoU aNd I dOn’T hAvE tHaT yEt” “i DoN’t ThInK oF hEr “ThAt WaY” WHY THE FUCK U LYING. WHY U ALWAYS L Y I N G

callum admits to rayla that he couldn’t do it and they have a scene that has more hurt/comfort than any of DJNessling’s fics (go follow her, deetheteadrinkingdragon on tumblr/AO3 and DJNessling on twitter) and lemme just *chugs rayllum juice* delicious

claudia and soren want to come along with callum and the rest of the dragang and rayla quickly makes her opinion known. they cannot trust soren and claudia. but how do they figure out it’s a trap? well, they do that through illusions.

rayla comforting callum after he couldn’t do it and HUGGING HIM and that soft lil “good.” STFG THEY’RE TRYNA GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK.

but.. unfortunately, callum is quite the DUMBASS. as we know, rayla goes off to protect the dragon and callum (after DRAWING HER. AHEM. SIR I DIAGNOSE U WITH P I N I N G) comes up with the GRAND IDEA of using dark magic to help her. it didn’t end well, so now he’s sick, in a coma, and has a fever. FANTASTIC! <3

corvus shows up and reveals to ezran that his dad is dead, so he “goes on a walk” and after a bit corvus leaves rayla to go find him.

*RUBS MY CLAWS TOGETHER* THIS IS THE ANGSTY PART.

callum is going through Some Shit in his head, but let’s focus on rayla. she seems to be aloof and not care at first, but after he says “help! help..” rayla begins to soften with the quote “you’re gonna be okay... you big dumb human” which im p sure made the whole fandom go bonkers.

and then callum starts panting, as if he’s drowning (FUCK YOU FEVER DREAM) and then rayla Panicks

The Dragon Prince S2

So I just finished binging TDP S2, and I have Thoughts. And Feelings. And I need to get them down somewhere. Fair warning: Here there be spoilers.

Gods. Where to start. Okay.

I love the pacing of the story, to start. This feels like a story which, when all is said and done, is going to happen over the course of a few months at best, and I love it. There's a lot of things happening in this world, a lot of huge things, paradigm-shifting things, and it's kinda amazing to see them happening at the pace they're happening.

General Amaya. Gods I love General Amaya. And I love how nobody treats her any different, even though she's deaf, and how her soldiers all know sign to communicate with her. I wish like hell we had subtitles translating when sign is happening around her, but I feel like that adds to everything about her--there's even a moment during the flashbacks where she and Sarai have an exchange about Harrow, which he doesn't understand, and they just giggle and shrug it off, like you would when talking about someone behind their back in front of them in another language. And I love the moment in the first episode, when the soldier warns her about the Sunfire elves behind him with a subtle thumb motion in their direction. Even if that's not actually sign language, it's clear enough, and she completely understood him, and I think that was beautifully done.

Ezran and the dragon's connection is incredible. I've no doubt that THAT is what will eventually lead to lasting peace between the human kingdoms and Xadia. Plus, Ezran's ability to communicate with animals seems an awful lot like magic to me, and I'm curious to see how that develops.

Gods, so many pop culture references in this season. Ellis saying, "Don't you forget about me! Don't, don't, don't, don't!" Rayla trying to explain her connection to moon magic to Callum, complete with a straight-up Sailor Moon reference. I'll have to watch to catch more, but the writers saw their opportunities and took them, 100%, and I love them for it.

I totally ship Callum and Rayla. I've kinda been shipping them since S1, but even moreso after this season. I'm calling it "Raylum" and I will absolutely go down with that ship.

CALLUM! CALLUM CALLUM CALLUM CALLUUUUUUUM!! Callum the mage! Callum the human mage! Callum the mage who can use Sky magic even though humans aren't supposed to be able to use primal magic! AAAAAAHHHHHH CALLUM! And that whole vision quest he went on after using Dark magic was creepy as fuck but beautifully done and I was seeing touches of the other magics there, too. I want to see him using ALL the primal magic by the end of the series. Please please please please

Claudia and Soren. Poor, poor Claudia and Soren. Soren...sweet boy, but dumber than a box of rocks. He just wants Viren's approval, and I hope it doesnt destroy him trying to get it, because Viren is a narcissist to say the least, and trying to win the love and approval of a narcissist only leads to pain. And Claudia! I've always felt squicky about her use of Dark magic, and what she did to heal Soren at the end of the season...oh, poor girl. I don't want to witness her self-destruction, but I think I see it coming, and it's gonna break my heart.

Viren. Holy shit Viren. Or should I say, Viren and Aaravados (I probably got his name wrong but you know who I mean). Admittedly, I thought that elf was female at first, but whatever, minor details. His look is stunning. I have a feeling we have our true villain in him, with him working with/through Viren, and I'm also about 90% certain we're going to see Viren self-destruct by the end of the series, likely bringing A through to the physical plane.

LESBIAN QUEENS WHO HAVE A DAUGHTER WHO IS NOW A CHILD QUEEN. HOLY FUCK I DIDN'T KNOW HOW MUCH I NEEDED TO SEE INTERRACIAL LESBIAN QUEENS WHO NOBODY BATS AN EYE AT. THIS SHOW IS FUCKING *KILLING IT* WHEN IT COMES TO REPRESENTATION.

Strangely, I'm completely unconcerned by the fact that the season ended with Rayla and Callum facing down what appears to be a sun/fire dragon. They have the dragon prince with them. They'll be fine. Whatevs.

I'm pretty sure Corvus is going to become one of my favorite characters in the series. Gren is getting there, too. "I could think of myself as being chained down...or I could think of myself as being chained UP!" Hahaha. Oh Gren. You're so damn precious.

I literally just finished watching this season, and I already want to watch it again. I want the next season out already. Waiting for the next 5 seasons (cause c'mon, they're totally following the Avatar setup, and there's 7 types of magic, sooooo) is going to be so hard. I love this show. The fight scenes are amazing, the characters are incredible, the story is even more compelling now that we're past the expository season 1... I just love it. I can't wait to see more.

the hotel: a horror disco gv for tmi !!!

you see the hotel’s VACANCY sign after what feels like an eternity of  driving through farmland and over dirt roads. everyone warned you that  the midwest was a long stretch of same after same after same but you’re  pretty sure that you saw the same exact barn at least three times and  you wonder if you’re tired or if there’s something else going on.

the  front desk clerk looks at you with pity as you check in. something in  his gaze says he’s seen things, says turn back and dont stay here. but  instead he gives you a smile thats too fake when he hands you your  keycard.

on  your way to your room another guest stops you to talk. she doesnt  remember when she checked in, doesnt know how long she’s been here. but  she knows enough to warn you against the shadows in your room.

how many nights did you pay for again? you’ve already forgotten.

ABOUT:

set in the midwest, the hotel is full of ( interesting ) guests. most can’t remember when they arrived or when they’re supposed to leave. some know very well why they’re checked in.

from shadow people to wayward travelers, the hotel has come to accommodate quite a range of characters. with a primarily horror based plot, hotel guests will find themselves facing an array of situations.

the clave has been made aware of odd & sometimes demonic activities of high levels from the hotel. the first few shadowhunters they dispatched did not return & there has been no communication from them.

guests of the hotel are encouraged to:

enjoy a swim in the indoor pool but please try not to get eaten by … well, you’ll know it when you see it.

use the hotel’s free wifi, just don’t log into the mystery chat that tends to pop up on guests screens. we’ve had a few complaints that afterwards, guests start to feel watched by something otherworldly.

take a stroll on the beautiful grounds! excuse the screams coming from beyond the treeline, there are beasts out there we can’t protect you from.

eat our free breakfast, and don’t listen to the old woman in the corner mumbling about hallucinations after eating or sedatives in the pancakes. nobody has ever been able to prove we’ve been feeding our guests to interdimensional monsters after all.

enjoy each other’s company! except the guest in room 117, they’ve been here a while, don’t trust what they tell you.

i know this has prolly been talked about

but for me, i really liked how they handled grief in this season

with callum, he didnt just cry and said ‘oh no’ and moved on, they carried it out through the episodes,;;; like hell the scene where he was reading harrow’s letter and the way his expressions were handled got me to tears

and for ezran, i saw how devastated he was, the moment of shocked realization growing on his face as soon as corvus calls him the king. wanting to be alone and spending time with claudia while they both shared their losses was so good to see. and how he wanted to go back to katolis and take the throne makes it even better

idk how to explain it but gughghhhh theres just something so refreshing about seeing these kids actually grieving, and it doesnt just end with ezran and callum. even claudia wasnt completely over her mom and dad’s separation since she cried while telling their story to ezran

Finally reaching the end of my DQ9 replay (will need to grind a bit because my mage just turned into a sage!), and while the story is far better than i remembered, i felt some sort of disconnection between what you do in the first parts of the game (travel helping people to grow fyggs) and in the second part (stop the evil people). Some foreshadowing about them in the early staged of the game beyond “this mysterious angel was stolen from us long ago” would help. Idk, have Hootingham-Gore appear earlier, even if he doesnt directly interact with the player and just watches over what the hero does.

Aside from that, enabling party chat even if its just with Stella would deepen the vignettes quite a lot. The Coffinwell story, for istance, felt too short. Party chat would deepen what you know from it and its villagers.

I’m liking the second part of the story, but i see some plotholes here (unless its explained later) that make me quite curious... how come Serena could see Corvus in the first place? Like aren’t celestrians and other angelic beings invisible to mortals? And how did the Gittish Empire learn to 1- see celestrians and 2-exploit their energy? Am i missing something here?

Also: Serena’s dad is trash.
