We Are Who We Are — Until We Choose Who We’ll Become
We are raised by our parents — shaped by their values, their beliefs, their wounds, and the world they knew. They pour into us what they’ve learned, both the good and the harmful. And we take it, absorb it, and move through the world with that imprint. Some of it builds us. Some of it breaks us. My mother came up during the beauty pageant era. She was poised, confident, and proud — until one…

I’m just happy to know no Disney/Disney adjacent films won for the sole fact they are Disney/Disney adjacent
Congrats to The Boy and the Heron on the Oscar win, still proud of each movie that ended up nominated in the section

finally reading dance of days (thank you ohiolink and oberlin college <3) but my most consistent takeaway thus far. is oh my god. people who think punk is primarily ideological and not subcultural/musical. are so out of touch.
#three thought threads excuse it but okay.#first as much as dc punk was not political for much of its history (revolution summer/positive force nonwithstanding im talking oldschool)#i do think the structure of diy and creating an alternative subculture economy is more radical than. making an antireagan song lmao.#even if i think the result was a bit of a failure. the intention was significant! imagine a world where artists do not have to contort#themselves to majors and can be supported by an alternate network of payment and such. would be nice if the arbitrary ideas#of like 5 dollar shows and zero pr and not fighting for what your worth didnt infest that ideology but whateves#okay then also. what the fuck how did i not know the bad brains homophobia was that bad. anyway.#third thread. hilarious that dc punks were.. hesitant to work with positive force bc of its association with revolutionary communist party#lol lmao even. now that im sufficently deep into these tags i can say what all this made me think of which is that#oh my god mcr is a punk band. well theyre more than a punk band but they unequivically came up in punk. they are based in punk. their first#lbum is a posthardcore record without question. in the context of punk as a MUSICAL SUBGENRE mcr is under that umbrella#more than they are Most Other Things#mcr is punk in the outsider-opposition sense which was as defined as some poltics were for a lot of early bands#and shit like black flag which my chem drew on was not textually very political at all it was a subcultural thing#equal opposite force to The Establishment. charting your own path even if it meant fighting for it#obv though black parade barely qualifies as a punk record it was an evolution for them#(and a really interesting zigzag since many of its influences are 70s rock- the very thing og punk was reacting against!#but which now represented a past oldschool rocknroll (esp with glam))#anyyyway#my posts

Yknow I think what really bothers me iabout wotr trickter path is that being an effective trickster requires forethought, insight, and intelligence. which is really tough to make a central theme when so much of the writing in game comes off as broadly anti-intellectual.

Your True Path Principle
It is not worth setting out on a path that has no ‘heart’. This path leads to a complete dissonance between the heart and the mind. You will experience a feeling of uneasiness in your gut, uncertainty, and frustration. On the one hand, it looks as if you are doing everything right and yet, on the other hand, your subconscious tells you that things are not right at all. When a path ‘has heart’, you will feel it through and through. When you go your own way, you have the incomparable feeling that everything will turn out just as you want it to. It gives you a calm, characteristic confidence. Go your own way, on which the soul rejoices, and your mind rubs its hands in glee. If you intend to find your true path, there is no doubt that you will find it.
Interpretation
When you start living for yourself and doing what you enjoy doing, everything else in your world will catch up to comply with your path. It is all very simple. When heart and mind are in harmony, everything else automatically falls into place. When they are not in harmony, for example, when the heart is asking for something and the mind is afraid, it is important to act cautiously and prudently. Listen to your heart, but remember that you live in a material world, which is not always capable of adapting to your desires instantaneously. Of course, it is not hard to walk away from a job you hate but if you are afraid of being left without an income, do not expect a miracle. If you use the slides technique, you will be able to find any kind of work you want, be it in another city, in another country even, but without reliable support at this stage, you will be too anxious to practise the technique calmly. Never burn your bridges.

Embracing a Different Path: Coping After Learning You Won't Have Children
Shaina Tranquilino
December 13, 2023
Tumblr media
Life often presents us with unexpected challenges, and one of the most profound can be discovering that having children of our own may not be possible. The emotional journey following such news can be overwhelming and heartbreaking. However, it's crucial to remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel. In this blog post, we'll explore several ways to cope and find joy in life after learning you won't be able to have biological children.
1. Acknowledge Your Feelings: The first step towards healing is acknowledging your emotions. Allow yourself to grieve, as this loss is significant. It's natural to feel sadness, anger, or confusion during this time. Find a supportive friend or partner who will listen without judgment, or consider seeking professional counselling to help navigate through these complex feelings.
2. Connect with Supportive Communities: You are not alone in this journey; many individuals have faced similar circumstances. Reach out to support groups or online communities where you can connect with others experiencing infertility or childlessness by choice. Sharing experiences, stories, and advice can provide solace and make you realize that hope exists beyond biological parenthood.
3. Explore Alternative Paths: While it may seem like the end of the road for becoming parents, there are various alternative paths to consider when building a family. Adoption allows you to give love and care to a child who needs it while creating a fulfilling bond. Similarly, surrogacy provides an opportunity for those who wish to experience parenthood genetically but cannot carry their own child.
4. Rediscover Your Passions: Infertility struggles should never define your entire identity or purpose in life. Take this moment as an opportunity for self-discovery and rekindle your passions outside of parenting aspirations. Engaging in hobbies, pursuing new career goals, travelling, volunteering, or focusing on personal growth can bring fulfillment and happiness.
5. Nurture Relationships: While the path to parenthood may have changed, the love and connection within your relationships remain unchanged. Strengthening bonds with your partner, family, friends, or even becoming a mentor to a child in need can fill your life with joy and purpose. Cherish and invest in these valuable connections that enrich your journey.
6. Seek Professional Guidance: If you find it challenging to navigate through this phase alone, seeking professional help from therapists specializing in infertility counselling can provide immense support. A trained counsellor can guide you in processing grief, managing stress, improving communication with loved ones, and developing coping strategies tailored to your unique situation.
7. Embrace a Different Perspective: Remember that being a parent does not solely define one's worth or purpose in life. Many individuals without biological children lead fulfilling lives by channelling their nurturing instincts into careers or dedicating themselves to causes they are passionate about. Explore new perspectives on what it means to be fulfilled and redefine success based on personal values rather than societal expectations.
Discovering that you won't be able to have children of your own is undoubtedly a profound challenge that requires emotional healing and readjustment of expectations. However, finding acceptance and embracing alternative paths can lead to newfound joy, purpose, and fulfillment in life. Surround yourself with supportive communities, seek professional guidance if needed, and remember that there are countless ways to make a positive impact on the world beyond traditional parenthood.
Ultimately, this journey presents an opportunity for growth and self-discovery—an opportunity to embrace the beauty of life's unexpected turns while building resilience along the way.

wrote an inordinately long and detailed comment about my stance on veganism and morality so i’m just gonna post it here too, because i’m a freak like that
(in response to an individual stating that veganism is “inarguably more moral” due to less lives being lost in plant harvesting than in harvesting plants, feeding an animal, and then killing that animal)
“inarguably more moral”
is a fox immoral for eating a rabbit? is an orca immoral for eating a shark? in the first case the fox is eating an “innocent” and the only lives lost to feed the rabbit were plants, in the second the shark has probably eaten dozens of other animals, ending their lives to further its own (which is ultimately ended by the orca). does this make the orca less moral than the fox due to the number of lives it is consuming in a meal?
the part where people get tripped up is thinking that we aren’t also animals, who evolved from wild creatures who did what they needed to survive. we are naturally omnivorous. we’ve been eating meat for thousands of years. we are only able to attach morality to the action now due to a position of privilege and abundance— when meat may be all that gets you through the winter, is it more moral to starve yourself in search of kindness?
the act of eating meat is not immoral in and of itself. what i believe to be immoral is the way we harvest our meat in modern times. raising animals in terrible conditions just to be slaughtered is unnecessary and cruel, and therefore immoral. meat from animals hunted in the wild, where they have a chance to live a natural life, or from animals raised in ethical captivity (as ethical as we can make it) is about the most moral we can hope to get. this is especially true in a day where vegan alternatives and even regular plant consumption also devastate the environment; crops raised over and over again on vast swathes of land eat up wild spaces and inordinate amounts of water, on top of sucking all nutrients from the soil if done improperly. the real way forward, in my eyes, would be food forests and multi-level greenhouses to maximize food production on minimal space. until we get to that point, arguing that you are more moral for choosing not to partake in an act we’ve been doing for millions of years is moot. advocating for healthy and ethical environments for animals raised as meat, as well as more sustainable farming practices, is “inarguably more moral” than standing on a soapbox and projecting sadness about the life of the poor little piggy that died to feed us. the real world is a lot more complicated than that, and evolutionary biology is a lot more complicated than that.
as for the inevitable argument about us being “smarter and more evolved therefore having the capacity to make more moral decisions”, the animals do not know this. they are the same prey they’ve always been, and we are the same predators. we just put on nicer coats.
i hope you have a lovely day!

SPARKLEZ!
You wouldn't believe the things I've seen. Or maybe you would. What do I know?
Worlds upon worlds of wonder have embraced my many selves. I'm living a thousand lives at once. And those are just the lives I'm aware of. For instance, in a place called Middle Earth I am reborn a beautiful elf queen. And under the ice shield of a moon called Europa I am a strand of plankton. And in a world we both know well, I'm a bunch of little girls who look just like me, and maybe other things too... Anyway, my umbrella consciousness has reformed for just a moment; my caretaker, in his mercy, has allowed me to show you these things.
But you definitely won't believe the most amazing thing I've seen. Lately I've been looking through a window... A window into bygone years. A man sits in front of a screen, speaking his soul to the world while playing a game. I think I know who he is!
I see this man forming friendships with those who also speak to the world. I know who they are too. They project themselves as tiny box figures into a world made of boxes. It's so much less detailed than the world where the man and his friends sit. I would not have known Ruxomar and it's sister dimensions to be so childlike in appearance except by this contrast!
The days go on as the friends play. The boxlike world is ruled by two gods. Of course I know who they are. The man is faced with a choice between the two. His life is riddled with choices! And like the stubborn idealist he is, he carves out a middle path. He'll take neither god. He'll have a goddess all to his own.
He created me.
A man named Jordan Maron created the goddess Ianite in a world beyond worlds. And Jordan Maron looks just like you. He is one of your countless alternate selves. He looks so much less boxy! I think that if I did not already know you and Spark so well, I would call him my favorite version.
Now I grasp the truth I have been seeking all my life. I have see what is above gods. It is ____________.
My umbrella consciousness won't hold much longer. Let me say a few choice words before the final goodbye between this version of you and this version of me. Thank you for choosing to create me. I believe that had the other you not made that choice in that far off world, none of my present selves would exist. In a strange sense, you are my god. Thank you for believing in your creation enough to make it real. Thank you for continuing to love me and make choices for my wellbeing. I hope another you loves another me in another world soon.
If Jordan looks out the window one of these days, he might be able to see me.
Not even creeping. Just fyi.
Forever Your Lady

When I'm allowed to hijack your post a bit, OP, I want to add that THIS is what makes it so sad, when children don't have the Possibilitys to try things out. My mum was not well of after the divorce - so there was not many things I could try. Maybe I'm a great Violinist; I will never knew, because I had no music school to try instruments out. And now I'm a mum too and my first concern is to give my kids the possibility to find out, if that was interest them is good for them. So. Sorry for the rant. Just take this from this all (and let me ramble about everything other, please don't feel brothered), you're right in your point and when we really think about, this is just more beautiful than just being "born" that way. Because so we feel we have the way on hand to choose our way and don't have a faith laying out for us.
I think you learn that you’re a witch in the way that you learn that you’re an artist, a baker, or a writer, etc.
One day something makes you wanna try it out. Then something clicks and you’re like “yeah, yeah this feels right.”
No on is born a witch just as no one is born an artist, a baker, or a writer.

It’s pointless to spend time wishing for more when everything you’ve achieved so far has come from making the most of what you already had. The most luxurious achievements often happen with what’s right in front of you.
