Sometimes you need to just get away from everything and left you phone behind... as scary as that may sound! . How have we become so depend on the devices we grip tightly in our hands, afraid to let go? Bouncing from place to place in search of free WiFi? . Yesterday we headed off to Maya Bay, home of ‘The Beach’, it’s now closed off but a boat ride will get you as close as you can. But after 18 years since the film was released and 5000 tourists and 200 boats per day, the fragile eco-system has suffered the consequences. . Back in 2000, smartphones,Facebook, Instagram, selfies and other social media induced things were a long way off and visitors to this beautiful spot were as in the film, word of mouth and crossing your fingers hoping the film developed. But looking at the #mayabeach tag and there are so many “I’m glad I got chance to visit” posts but all of them are full with strangers and boards of people... that wasn’t what “The Beach” was about. Has it become what it was hoping to not become in the film? It’s sad to see 😢 .
