Day 8- Rompo The Rompo is a mythical creature originating from the legends of India and Africa. They are said to have long, skeletal bodies, the head of a hare, human ears, the front arms of a badger and the rear legs of a bear. Some believe the creatures to have quills as well. The creature is believed to be nocturnal, secretive and feeds on human corpses. As an artist, what other artists inspire you?☺️

Oh there’s so many!! It’s a mix of a lot of different styles and mediums 😳 the ones I remember immediately are Micah ulrich, zack dunn, Arang eleven, mr.k, drgn ink, kim junggi, kensho, alexander grim, neonmystic, dotstolines, blum.ttt, alicelovesdrawing, custombysophy, visothkakvei, kerby rosanes

these are just a handful of them!

I like occult art and sacred geometry a lot. I gravitate less towards realism even though it’s a very difficult artform. I’m more of a lines and dots and skulls kinda gal.

“Original artwork for F&F Day 28: Chimera The Chimera is the sister of Cerberus and daughter to Typhon, both which we’ve covered this month already. The earliest surviving record of it can be traced back to Homer in The Iliad, where it is described as “a thing of immortal make” with a head of a lion, the head of a goat and the tail of a snake. It is also said to be able to breathe fire. The original drawing is made with Ballograf Epoca Ballpoint Pen on 250 gsm Clairefontaine Paint ON Mixed Media Paper. The drawing is shipped in a sturdy envelope and with a protective plastic sleeve. Folklore & Fairytales is an art challenge hosted by me. It's an exploration of culture, roots, myth and the magical elements of the world.“

Illustrations

I did not pick these illustrations based on any criteria other than the fact that I fell in love with each one as soon as I saw them, however, after compiling them here, I realized they fit perfectly into two categories: line illustrations and female portraits. I will be talking in depth about Instagram user @flesh.png’s work, which is illustration #7, for it emcompasses both of these (spontaneous) classifications.

This is a fanmade depiction of YouTuber Arden Rose, who is a dashing human being in her own rights, but whose beauty is so brilliantly amplified by the intricate craftmanship and the eyecatching composition of this work. I am especially an advocate for cross-hatching, and that is exactly the technique used to form the main figure. The rose placed in the circled negative space not only creates visual balance, but also draws our attention to the primary subject. I also mentioned before that black and warm yellow is my favorite color combination, and that is also present here. All of these reasons only add up to complement the already skillful artwork by the illustrator.

Day 10- Nuckelavee The Nuckelavee is a horse-like demon from Orcadian mythology that combines equine and human elements. It has been described to have a man’s torso with no legs attached to a horse’s back as if a rider. It has its origins in Norse mythology and is believed by some to be the nastiest of all the demons of Scotland’s Northern Isles. The Nuckelavee’s breath was thought to wilt crops and sicken livestock. The creature was also held responsible for droughts and epidemics on land despite being predominantly a sea-dweller. I have skipped a day here because I’ve been really struggling with the Baba Yaga. S y l p h i d e a t r i s t e a. Yesterday, I was outside and the wind was blowing, moving slightly the leaves of the trees. I sat down and started to scribble around, I had no idea about the outcome. First, I thought it'd become some kind of mother nature, being concerned. After finishing, now, I am quite sure it wants to be my version of an air elemental. So here it is, my concerned sad sylphide. Day 29 - { Pesta } Pesta, an ashen-faced old woman, was the personification of the Black Death. A plague that nearly wiped 60 percent of the population in the 14th century. In Norwegian folktales she wears a red skirt and carries a broomstick or a rake depending upon ones fate. Going from town to town if one came upon Pesta with the rake in her hand, one knew their town was spared. However, if she began to sweep, then all who witnessed knew that no soul would be spared once she finished. I didn’t go as detailed as I would have liked, truthfully, but I plan on working on another. For now here is my vision of Pesta for the #folkloreandfairytales challenge.
