Daima Episode 2 Spoiler but... Someone we didn't see turn small... or see at all:
We didn't see Yajirobe when we went to see Korin.
And considering Korin mentions he only knew about the shrink because he was taking a look at the surface world (definitely not because Gomah and the gang were being noisy as heck up there) (I'm still wondering if Upa got affected since he's technically a Goku Friend, not that they'd show us; he'd probably be easy for Korin to spot), it's not like Yajirobe's off screen.
...Did Korin kick Yajirobe out of the house tower? Marital spat?

There are 3 reasons why Vegebul stuff annoys me in modern DB:
(Before you read: POV me begging the Vegebul fans for mercy before being destroyed for this post):
1) It feels like an overdone gag, like the Beerus/Whis loving food gag. It happens so many times it feels cringe for both Bulma AND Vegeta. WE GET IT, you're MARRIED!
2) No other couple gets as much "couple screentime". It's often said that "DB/Toriyama isn't good with romance" except Bulma and Vegeta are apparently exempt from this rule. Why the focus on Bulma and Vegeta, when Goku/Chichi, Gohan/Videl, Krillin/18 and others have ample opportunity for screentime? The others are often written more nuanced/slice-of-life, meanwhile we get professions of love from Vegeta/Bulma all the time
3) It sets them as a standard to which all other couples look worse ("look how perfect they are, how perfect of a husband Vegeta is, how sexy of a wife Bulma is, not like "hur dur what's a kiss" Goku")
3) It flanderizes Bulma as "Vegeta's wife". It really bothers me that one of Bulma's main roles seems to be Vegeta's personal cheerleader now, that is usually done very publicly. The episode in Daima with the bath thing was my 13th reason. The only scene I really like is when Bulma hugs Vegeta and cries in the DBS manga. In watching and reading the DB manga, yes Bulma is written to be irrational and hot-headed but she's also quite calm, cool, intelligent, multi-dimensional. She's also the victim of flanderization in DB Super. I say this all with LOVE for Vegebul, which I actually do like throughout the Android saga (for how resistant he was to it) and Buu saga (for how much love he showed he really had for them). I like what Bulma does to Vegeta's character, I just hate how it's COMPLETELY overdone now.

Talking about anime, time to mention the shows I’m watching this season:
Dandadan
I remember trying the manga when it first came out, dropped it after the second chapter since I fucking hate high school shit, but the anime looked well animated and the intro kicks ass, so I gave it a second chance and hooooly shit, it’s really fucking good! The start is indeed sloppy, but once aliens and spirits make their debut, it’s all uphill from there!
Great animation, characters and fight scenes galore, plus a surprisingly heartfelt and tragic story in the seventh episode, 10/10 so far!
Ranma 1/2
I grew up with the OG series, so it holds a special place in my heart, and man if the remake hasn’t disappointed me in the slightest! Great animation, amazing music, the characters feel even more charming than before, and even Akane got toned down from her bitchy self I still clearly remember from way back when.
Apparently the adaptation is much closet to the manga than the OG series, hence why it has faster pacing and somewhat more mellowed characters, and after reading that that means that piece of shit happosai is no longer becoming a recurring nightmare, I can honestly say I’m even more excited for this one !
Dragon Ball Daima
I’m latino, if I don’t watch this I’ll be banned from ever enjoying arepas again… Naw, I’ve been watching Dragon Ball for basically all my life, so of course I have to watch this one, plus OG DB was always my favorite, and this one truly captures the essence of that story!
Also, since its kid Goku again, his stupidity, which Super turned up to 11 for no good reason, finally makes in-universe sense, so that’s another plus!

TsumaSho
What everyone, myself included, wrote off as yet another ultra degenerate anime, this time about a dead wife reincarnating as a 10-year okd child, turned out to be quite the wholesome, if ultimately tragic (especially after the last episode ) series about a broken family of a dad and an adult daughter slowly recovering from 10 years of grief and darkness after the said death wife AND mother comes back and basically tells them “time to get your shit together you stupid idiots”, which, they do.
The mom character is the best, as while she’s reconnecting with her old family, she has to deal with her new one in the form of a broken divorced mom who keeps unintentionally hurting her, all because her own home life was a living nightmare, while her love life is nothing but betrayals.
It sorta reminds me of the weird telenovelas I used to watch at a friend’s house, but in a good way, don’t let the weird premise drive you off, it is not perverted in the slightest!
And that’s about it! I tried another anime about a slime girl, dropped it one episode in (I didn’t like its humor), then another about a sentient robot arm thing, dropped it after the third episode (mainly because the tone was all over the place), and another about the fan of a magical girl accidentally becoming evil, kinda like THAT degenerate anime from the beginning of the year, only not degenerate, gave it a try because of that, turned out to be the most boring shit I’ve ever watched in a long while.
Honestly, this season has been weak in terms of number of good shows, but man the ones that are actually good are FANTASTIC!

I noticed a funny and cute detail in Dragon Ball Daima episode 2 (spoiler warning)
When Vegeta wanted to come along, he was not allowed and had to follow with Bulma's spaceship. He showed a disappointing reaction.
He probably doesn't want to let Goku go without him but doesn't want to admit it. Vegeta still secretly cares a lot about Kakarot.

EPISODE 2: GLORIO
Episode 2 time! Let's get this show on the road!
Firstly, an interesting thing they added about Shenron- apparently his multi-wish capabilities are a bonus for the regulars and any new users only get one. I'm seeming to notice with Daima that they seem to come up with a lot of new rules for the lore at the drop of a hat- many of which contradict what we've seen in Super, so it's very interesting how the show's really trying to make itself its own new branch.
I mean, we still have the Universe numbers, but the Supreme Kais travelled over from the Demon Realm. And aren't they born from the special fruit? Does siblingship mean they came from the same branch? Was it travel by choice or were they sent over? Are the Gods of Destruction retconned- now that I think about it how do they get linked up? I'll need time to think on this.
Digressing...
Turns out Mr. Popo has horns and Dende was still considered a child enough to be turned into a baby. When is Namekian maturity? Apparently, he's too young now to power the Dragon Balls. You'd think Shenron would have a self-preservation maneuver to prevent self-destructing himself with this wish.
Bulma's taking the whole shrinking (also they're acknowledging it as "shrinking" since, while they have younger bodies, they have adult mental maturity) situation surprisingly well- plus we got confirmation that's she's coming along for the Demon Realm adventure! I guess it'd kinda be like with Namek where they need a pilot, but hopefully, since she seems rather active in the OP and ending animations, it won't be a "watch the Dragon Ball for us, bye!" while she has a filler-exclusive killing crabs in the ocean moment (oh who am I kidding, I'd like to see the giant crab fight).
Kibito is officially Bulma's errand boy.
Goku can't sit still for a few days and is still trying to get the hang of his distance judgement and flying, all while everyone's having their lore meeting. Then, he comes up with the idea to grab good old reliable, the Power Pole (I honestly forgot it was called the Nyoibo)!
Turns out with everyone flying nowadays, they no longer need it to get to the Lookout, so Korin gave it to Master Roshi, who, in tribute to the gag manga roots, was using it to hang his laundry.
And speaking of these guys:
Korin's apparently not enough of a "friend" to be affected by the wish, unless he's never grown in his life and he's always been like that, so he didn't notice.
Master Roshi is still kinda weird and flirty, but I'm at least glad that in the areas with the potential to be absolutely creepy, they kept him toned down. I think he did a little heart chu at one of the waitresses, but I think that's it. Though who knows what he'll do on his planned "night on the town".
According to the lore, pointy ears are usually a good but not universal indicator of someone being from the Demon Realm. Five minutes later, Shin then proceeds to assume Glorio's from the Demon Realm based on the pointy ears (I mean, Popo did mention the ship-plane looking similar to Gomah's, but still, they did the emphasis zoom-in).
Anyway GLORIO! For an episode named after him, he sure wasn't there for most of it.
Apparently within the Demon Realm, there are individual Demon Worlds and Glorio's from the third one. He also has some motivation to defeat Gomah. That's pretty much all we know since that's enough for him to pass the stranger-danger check.
Glorio's ship plane is too small for the whole gang- though Vegeta is very insistent on squeezing in there- so they'll have to go in two waves, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Bulma coming along once Shin's old spaceship is fixed. ...I'm foreseeing maybe one or two episodes of Goku and Shin adventures until the full team reassembles.
RIP "Hey, it's me, Goku!"
ALSO Where's Gohan? Where's Videl? Where are they during all this, frightened, scared, and confused?
I'll start the tally:
EPISODES WITHOUT KNOWING HANVI'S WHEREABOUTS: 2

Degesu May Not Be the Villain.

I honestly don't think Degesu will be bad for long. Though he despises Shin, I think it may be because Shin actually escaped the demon realm, leaving them behind. It said that he was "too ambitious and didn't get along with other Glinds," and that's why he stayed in the demon realm, but I think he stayed out of either resentment or fear. In the first episode of Daima, you can see how jumpy he is of Gomah and even Dr. Arinsu.
Even Gomah is scared. I think they know that Arinsu is basically a rouge scientist, and they're scared of what she can do. Either that or it's because siblings are... scary.
-
EDIT: I THINK IT'S CONFIRMED.
The new episode was just dropped and Degesu seemed downright TERRIFIED of having to disable Warp-sama. I don't know why. Maybe because Degesu now knows he'll never be able to leave the demon realm, or maybe he secretly wanting the Z fighters to win, but is regretful for having to trap them in.
-
EDIT 2: Thanks to @nightkibbles06 for pointing out this very insane detail after the outro of episode 15 (I skipped the outro so I had no idea :\)
Degesu is an absolute MENACE! This changes so much for the plot. I thought he didn't want to work with Gomah, but now this? But it doesn't seem right since they wanted him alive. Perhaps Degesu is betraying Gomah!? Though it doesn't look like he's on the Z Fighters' side. I'm so excited to see how Shin gets involved in this tbh.
Degesu has shown us his dark side. Get ready folks, cause episode 16 will be a roller-coaster for all of us.
~
EDIT 3: Bruh

No extra words needed. Just bruh
#dragon ball daima#gomah#degesu#shin#supreme kai#dr arinsu#Shin did not get involved :/#BREH bro got knocked out by piccolo -_-#How sad

So... what does the future of Dragon Ball hold?
Total shot in the dark: My money is on re-adaptation of the manga, similar to what other popular IP like Fullmetal Alchemist or Ranma 1/2 have done/been doing.
Given the popular reception (with people who aren't me) of Daima's first episode reanimating parts of the Buu arc? That seems like an effective way for Toei to milk their animation chops and push a new Dragon Ball product while postponing the controversial day when they have to break from Toriyama completely and go "Okay Dragon Ball is just ours now."
If I was a Toei exec, I'd at least consider just doing Dragon Ball over from start to finish with new animation and calling it something like "Dragon Ball Reincarnated" or somesuch.
There's also the possibility of new DBS episodes adapting the Moro and Granolah arcs. To my understanding, the Super anime ended because Toriyama didn't like it very much, so he transitioned to just working on the manga with Toyotaro while Toei did the movies Broly and Super Hero. But... well, that's not a factor anymore.

New Namekian lore dropped from Daima episode 2.
Spoiler under the readmore (albeit this is a bit of a shitpost lol)
Dende sucks his thumb.
-> this means baby Namekians have a sucking reflex
-> which means Namek tits and (milk?) exist.
-> but they're born from eggs, right?
->-> Platypus.

Daima EP.5 (Spoiler) Review/theories
• While Panzy's eye color means nothing in regards to her lineage, she does come from an important lineage as some of us suspected. Panzy, princess of machine otakus. Glorio not immediately recognizing her by name or appearance likely implies either 3rd world demons aren't interested in the royal family in general or Panzy's very existence is somewhat restricted to those who live/work at her castle. Could it be that she never actually received a collar as a result of that? Is that why she wears the scarf?
• Glorio very clearly doesn't want anyone outside of Goku's circle to join in regardless of any help they can offer. (Not part of Dr Arinsu's plan?) No choice now. Panzy's a helpful mechanic.
• Glorio did in fact speak to King Kadan, who did not in fact request that Glorio seek out those who defeated Majin Buu; implying that Glorio "snuck" into King Gohma's castle & gathered intel on Goku & crew in episode 1 before being "sent out" by King Kadan. Even a 3rd world demon who does "work" in the 1st world shouldn't be able to get anywhere near the castle of THE SUPREME KING of the DEMON REALM. He was let in. Dr Arinsu popped up unannounced in episode 1 & Glorio just happened to be spying behind a pillar? Nah.
• The 3rd demon world being the biggest, (yet worst off) world in the entire realm might just maybe imply worlds 1&2 have slightly lower gravity, but probably not.
• King Kadan is a man of seemingly righteous anger (Glorio describes him as an uncivilized Mafia boss) who wants to get rid of King Gohma & somehow assume the throne of Supreme King. For "peace". Is that actually possible? Was he perhaps promised that position by a manipulator in the shadows? (Dr Arinsu?) Panzy said her father "only steals from criminals & only kills bad people", which is usually a set up for a heartbreaking reveal that'll leave Panzy in tears. Or it could be nothing.
• Apparently those awful collars even function as tracking devices.
• They even have onigiri in the Demon Realm. Cute. Implies demon rice fields & unique demon ocean seaweed.
• Panzy has a knife she hasn't used yet. Judging from all that courtyard soldier training going on at her castle, she probably picked up a few moves from watching & learning.
• It was nice hearing Goku introduce himself with both his names. His interactions with Panzy are cute so far, as I'd hoped. Panzy herself is charmingly stubborn, insisting on getting her way without throwing tantrums/ throwing a fit.
• In the 3rd world at least, the inhabitants live up to a thousand years. This likely doesn't apply to the Glinds who live for a VERY long time.
• Every Majin (demon) can use at least one magic spell. So could magical enhancement explain Glorio's strength?
• Goku can canonically touch his nose with his tongue.
• Panzy implied that there are next to no Glinds in the Demon Realm due to the vast majority leaving ages ago, as many of us suspected. Though based on the passive aggressive conversation Shin had with Glorio episode 3, there might be a handful of Glinds somewhere in 2nd world.
• So the stick with blue cloth tied to it from the OP isn't a grave marker, but a path marker. Based on the sound of the wind (in the scene in this episode) & the direction the cloth was blowing, you're supposed to take the path the cloth points to. (In the OP the cloth is blowing to the right, then the camera pans to the right, where Goku & crew are seen traveling)
• Panzy confirms that Dabura was still a bad guy prior to the events of the Buu saga, so thankfully he hasn't been retconed as a good guy King. (Wouldn't make sense)
• Dende's caretaker (nanny?) is cute. Hope she gets a name. Much smarter of King Gohma planing on raising Dende so he can have his own personal set of dragon balls & probably get rid of Neva. (So it was probably Degesu's idea)
• I want to know what those demon onions have seen...
• The Tamagamis have never been defeated. Their poor win streak's about to be demolished.
• Smart of Shin (Supreme Kai) to bring up the pin number issue with King Kadan, who introduced us to a demon (of currently unspecified gender) named "Hybis" (Hibiscus flower?) who loves ballet & will head out to pick up/help Vegeta & crew. Hybis also shows off a device that's visually similar to the dragon radar, but also Babidi's energy reading device we saw Spopovich using when Gohan went SSJ2 at the tournament in the Buu saga. Just cooler. (Panzy is also seen holding a similar device in the ED) I swear, if the eyeball on Hybis' belt turns out to be the Tertian Oculus...
• Shin straight up drops "universe 7" in front of Goku, who doesn't register it & that's hilarious. Shin also finally shared his suspicions of Glorio with Goku, bringing up things we've been bringing up & such. Goku was Goku about it.
• I wasn't ready for the children's book art style bit when King Kadan ordered 3 men to steal a plane for Hybis from the "Nemophy Gang".
• Man, someone must've put a plane curse on Glorio, cuz bro has ZERO luck in that department. A 4 day trip & it breaks down in 2 minutes. (Guess Kai-Kai isn't an option)
• Hope we return to Kadan castle from time to time to introduce us to a few of those background characters like cool, pretty, buff red head with the silly ah chest plate.
• Wonder if Glorio actually has any of that liquor King Kadan offered to provide.
• Cute detail of Goku carrying luggage with his nyoibo.
• I super hope that axolotl tailed stuffed animal Panzy brought along will actually be sold IRL. I want.

Just Finished Daima Ep 1
Very interesting. Daima is still technically set DURING Super, but not at the point we all thought. Seems the trailers used designs specifically not in the final product, hence the confusion. But it's actually set in the years-long gap between Episodes 2 (set shortly after Buu's defeat) and 3 of Super. Trunks is turning 9, so this is about two years (or less) post-Buu. The Namekian Neva, though... now HE'S one of the more interesting additions to the series for me. Very interested to learn more about him and why he seems to have abilities no other Namekian has. This first episode alone has me super intrigued, so many lore implications here. (Edited to correct the episode number placement)

With Magilumiere S1 finished, here's how individual episodes ranked in Japan's Top 10 TV Animation ranking over the past few months (scores in "average household ranking"):
Week of October 7: Episode 1 — 2.7%, 7th place
Week of October 14: Episode 2 — 2.3%, 10th place
Week of November 4: Episode 6 — 2.4%, 9th place
Week of November 18: Episode 8 — 2.6%, 6th place (tie)
Week of November 25: Episode 9 — 3.0%, 5th place (tie)
Week of December 2: Episode 10 — 2.8%, 7th place
Week of December 9: Episode 11 — 2.5%, 9th place
Week of December 16: Episode 12 — 2.7%, 7th place
Usually every week, the top ranking animation programs tend to be classic long-running children's shows like Sazae-san, Chibi Maruko-chan, Doraemon, Crayon Shin-chan, and Detective Conan. Below those, One Piece, the yearly PreCure, and Dragon Ball (Kai, Super, and now Daima), tend to rank most weeks.
The leftover spots on the ranking tend to be split over seasonal anime. For example, this Fall 2024 anime season, Blue Miburo has been ranking abnormally high, even as high as third place for the week of December 15. In the Winter 2024 season earlier this year, Frieren and Apothocary Diaries ranked high for a few weeks.
Going back to this Fall season, Magilumiere has had two-thirds of its episodes rank within the Top 10 Weekly Animation rankings. And of the last two episodes, it has even ranked above Wonderful PreCure (Episodes 10 and 12 outranked One Piece as well). That's incredibly insane, and if a Season 2 annoucement hadn't already been made prior to the finalized rankings, I would have said this boded really well for a second season. This is truly the best original Magical Girl anime of the year.
