Ten miles of desert away, Vera and Diego were commiserating in a much less crowded Rusty Horseshoe.

I could tell you that it was quieter because it's a weeknight, or that I meant to shoot this scene during the day but the outline changed, or I simply how didn't want to pose as many extras this time. I'll let you choose whichever one works best for you.

But the fact of the matter is - we're here now, it's been god knows how long since the last scene, and Vera has been spending the last few hours revisiting option 1 of her several coping mechanisms - rethinking every interaction she's ever had, while Dani and Diego try their best to help.

Dani: You're sure you don't want a beer or somethin'? Vera: [ 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙣 ]

Dani: I could run back to my place and grab some iced tea? Vera: ( 𝘮𝘶𝘧𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘥 ) I'm fine thanks. Diego: Well are ya plannin' on comin' up for air anytime soon?

Vera: Happy? Diego: It's an improvement, yes. Vera: Why do you care so much? Diego: I don't like seein' people hurtin'.

Dani: He's like that. Diego treats everyone like they're a horse. Diego: Now that just ain't true. Dani: It's a little true.

Vera: I think I accidentally met my mom. . . . Which means Poppy is my half-sister.

. . . Diego: That's rough buddy.

Send me a potential AU and I’ll tell you five fun facts that would happen in a story.

Why am I kinda obsessed with this idea?🤭 (this kinda came out as a drabble, im sorryy)

I'm seeing an 'enemies to lovers' trope here. You met him at the ice rink, you were practicing a new movement that was getting a bit too hard to perform when the whole local team suddenly took over the rink. You approached the guy that seemed to be the captain - angry that they didn't have the decency to talk to you before wordlessly kicking you out. The guy introduced himself as Cregan Stark, and you immediately recognized his face from the posters on every place in Winterfell; it was a small town, and people like him would obviously get praised by his neighbors. You didn't like him at all, especially when he didn't even apologize to you.

Regardless of that situation, you still came back to the rink afterwards, using the only place available for you to train. Occasionally, your coach would be with you - and some days Cregan would arrive early and he would watch you from the bleachers, curious to know why he hasn't been able to stop thinking about you. Of course, you didn't notice him at first, but after a while his intense gaze was easily perceived by you. After a few days and once your training finished, he approached you and apologize for 'the incident of the other day' - you didn't think too much about it, but you accepted the apology. That's when all started.

You still were a bit reluctant to make acquaintance with him, noticing how he would act so different and tougher around his peers but funny and easygoing with you - almost like a Dany Zuko situation. But regardless of his odd attitude changes, you would still accept going out with him after his practice. You laughed - a lot. Cregan become addicted to the sound of it, getting butterflies each time he would hear it. You had a great time, secretly wanting to repeat the occasion. You hang out a couple times, until he invited you to one of his games; and you accepted.

Throughout the entire game you would see him get beat and push around, holding your breath each time he would fall on the ice; you never knew what was that all about. Things got out of hand when you saw how he would push someone from the opposite team, resulting in a fight that would make everyone gasp; your heart beating faster once you saw blood running down his nose and him being guided towards the dressing rooms. Your body reacted by itself and before you knew you were standing in front of him, holding tissues up his nose and laughing at his antics. That was the day you knew you liked him - that you really, really liked him. It was the day of your first kiss too.

Weeks from that, everytime he was on the ice rink he had you - his number one supporter - on the bleaches, cheering at him and cursing at anyone who dares to put a hand on the man you loved. And whenever you had a presentation, after spinning around and doing your tricks on the ice, you would always have to your number one fan waiting for you with a giant smile and a bouquet of flowers on his hand, ready to take you home to celebrate your victories on the privacy of your room. “Put down the sponge.”

Zuko’s bent over the kitchen stove, lit only by the dim light above it as his gloved hand scrubs vigorously under the iron grates. “Go back to bed.”

“No can do.” Sokka leans back against the counter nearby; better settle in for what is sure to be a productive conversation. “You missed a spot.”

Zuko’s answering sigh is bone deep, tired, but he keeps stubbornly working at the nonexistent grime anyway. It’s hard not to feel some sympathy for him. Hot and pathetic? Jackpot.

“Something on your mind, Sunshine?”

Incredulous, he glares back, a bit of hair falling into his face. “What makes you think that?”

He’s still shirtless, barefoot, nothing on but a pair of pink cleaning gloves that Izumi picked out and a walkie talkie clipped to the waistband of his sweatpants. He looks ridiculous, and oh, Sokka loves him more than anything.

“Because I know you. And this is what you do.”

He scoffs, curiosity disguised as annoyance. “What I do?”

“When you don’t want to think about something, you clean. Or cook. Or reorganize stuff that I’ve already organized. Whatever it is, it’s usually when you should be doing something more important, like being in bed with me.”

Zuko doesn’t argue. They both know it would be pointless considering the evidence from the last few months alone. Who knows how long he was doing this kind of thing before Sokka came into the picture. He shudders at the thought.

“I’m a pretty good listener, you know.”

At that, Zuko finally deflates. “I know.”

“So you could take advantage of that instead of taking it out on our appliances.”

He glances back at the squeaky clean stove, jaw ticking. With a sigh, he slips his gloves off, laying them neatly over the middle partition in the sink to dry. “What if it’s both?”

“What if what’s both?”

He paces back and forth, though it’s not many steps considering the size of their small kitchen. “Rain or shine. What if it’s not one or the other. What if it’s both. At the same time.”

“Not sure I follow.”

Frustrated, he runs a hand through his hair. It only makes it messier. “Sometimes it can be sunny and raining all at once. It happens!”

Sokka lifts his hands as if soothing a wild, panicked animal. “I know that. I’m just trying to figure out what that has to do with you.”

The moment hangs. In the dim kitchen light, the deep set bags under Zuko’s eyes are more obvious, and his shoulders sag with weight that Sokka can’t see.

He rubs at the back of his neck. “I don’t know, I’m just—”

ccrrrshhhh.

ccrrrshhhh.

Static crackles from the walkie talkie on Zuko’s hip. They look at each other, unsure if it’s a fluke or if Izumi actually needs them, until an adorably tiny voice comes through.

ccrrrshhhh. “Um. Hello?”

As tired as they both are, they can’t help but smile. Zuko turns his hip, and the walkie, in Sokka’s direction. “Duty calls. Answer her.”

“You answer her.”

“I got it last time.”

Grumbling, Sokka snatches the walkie from Zuko’s waist— but doesn’t let him get far— and presses the call button. ccrrrshhhh. “We’re here, ‘Zumi."

ccrrrshhhh. “Papa," she whispers as if it's a secret, "You have to call me Princess Penguin, remember? It's my special code name.”

Sokka shivers as Zuko laughs against his throat- a rush of breath and heat that he would very much like to sink into, but he does his best to concentrate for Izumi's sake. These two are going to be the death of him.

ccrrrshhhh. “Whatcha need, Princess?”

ccrrrshhhh. “I need to use the potty.”

ccrrrshhhh. “So go.”

ccrrrshhhh. “But it’s really super dark!”

It's a losing game, he knows. No matter how many nightlights he installs in the hallway for her, it still spooks her to go out there alone at night. He pictures her, all scared and huddled up under the covers with Druk, and helplessly melts, knowing without a shadow of a doubt that he’d go rescue her every night if that’s what it takes for her to feel safe.

Zuko stands back to look at him fondly. Knowingly. “Well?”

“I got it,” he says, “But you better be in bed when I get back.”

A smile, even softer now. Zuko leans in to kiss his cheek, warm and full of affection. “Go save the day, Papa Penguin.”

He steps away, and Sokka fights back the incessant butterflies fluttering around in his stomach as he holds the walkie to his mouth.

Ccrrrshhhh. “On my way, Princess. Hang tight.”

ASOIAF ATLA Au bc I saw a JJK one and was mesmerized

Dany is the avatar this is not up for debate. Born into the disgraced former imperial family of the fire nation, she shows signs of being able to bend other elements but never acts on them because her opinion of herself is too low and she doesn't believe she could be the protector of the world. After Drogo dies she fully unlocks her earth bending during his funeral ceremony while creating the pyre and everyone's like omg Miss Avatar. Then continues on with her heroes journey/bad roadtrip to take back her throne. The zuko parallels are everything to me. Yes she still brings back the dragons cause they were (thought to be) extinct in ATLA too

Jon who thinks he's a non bender (and Ned prays he is) until him and Robb are play fighting in the yard one day as kids and he accidentally burns his brother's eyebrows off. Still goes to the Wall bc could the fire and ice symbolism even be more in ur face. Most of the wildlings distrust him for his destructive abilities but he learns to control himself and becomes a symbol of light and life instead of destruction when he becomes a leader (Zuko parallels AGAIN babey).

Arya is a water bender who completely rejects learning about healing because she thinks it's so fucking boring. Syrio starts to train her and she starts to develop her shifty and quick fighting style that most trained benders find confusing. Learns ab blood bending while on the run and is Understandably Horrified. The faceless men force her to learn how to heal. They also force her to use her blood bending more so she's not having a great time rn.

Sansa is an incredibly talented healer for her age, but has no idea how to fight because "ladies aren't supposed to do that sort of thing." Forced to heal Lannister soldiers while stuck in the capital, though she just wishes she could let them die. ALSO unlocks blood bending due to this and is also quite unnerved. Forced to pose as a non bender in the Vale.

Bran the water bender who is devastated when it can't be used to heal him after his fall. Starts getting really into the spirit world, increasingly noticing raven spirits that no one else can see. Meera and Jojen (she's the swamp bender kind of water bender and he's a highly spiritual non-bender) take him north of the wall where the harmonic convergence takes place

Robb is an earth bender like his dad (Starks were originally a purely water bending family but started to marry a lot of earth benders) and he's well trained and good for his age, but that doesn't save him from being 15 and making poor decisions. Really heartbreaking as this desperate teenager tries to keep up with more experienced enemies as they attack him from all angles at the Red Wedding

Tyrion is now both a non-bender and a dwarf, which makes him doubly disgraced in Tywins eyes. Has to prove himself through his intelligence, being useful on the battlefield by creating the plans for benders and soldiers. Always has a lot of snarky comments about benders but always dreamed of being an air bender

Jamie and Cersei are both fire benders. Cersei used to spar with Jamie as children but Tywin quickly put an end to that and she was essentially forbidden from using her bending. Jamie is one of the best benders of his generation, and even years after the fact, Cersei still deeply resents him for being the prodigy she never had the chance to become

Cat is a water bender who was a pretty decent healer who patched men up after the war, but didn't really use her powers too much once she got married, because she didn't have much reason too. This bites her in the ass during the Red Wedding when she can't properly defend herself, and once Lady Stoneheart rises, she becomes a blood bender who is going to use her powers to their full extent this time around.

In Avatar: Azula X Mai X Ty Lee is my main one, but I also like Azula with Suki and/or Toph. I don't really ship Zukaang, but that is one of those ships that I would be 100% okay with, same with Roku X Sozin. Also Jet X Zuko just because of the "sword fighting" jokes.

Game Of Thrones/ASOIAF: Sansa X Margery, Dany X Missandei in the show. Jon Snow X Satin, Cersei X Taena in the books. Davos X Stannis, Renly X Loras in both.

House Of The Dragon: Visery X Daemon, Rhaenyra and Alicent (though I hate how the writers are handling this one), Aemond X Daemon, Rhaenyra X Mysaria.

Let's talk about Ozai in the Netflix Adaptation vs The Original

Let's go with the OG for right now...

So, Ozai was never really shown fully onscreen until the end of Book Two. Which was a really great move on the writers part. We had only seen bits an pieces of him, mostly told through Zuko and Iroh, but we had an idea he was bad. We knew from the beginning that Ozai was a power hungry monarch with grand delusions of himself and of course wanting to continue the legacy that was handed down to him. His ideal of achieving peace was war and terror. Everyone under one superior rule.

As a kid, that is scary.

Come Book Three we get Ozai in all his maniacal glory, wonderfully voiced by the legendary Mark Hamill. Now, being someone who grew up with Star Wars (having been inducted into the Rebellion at age 4) and the Batman Animated series (inducted at age 8) I grew up hearing that man's voice, so I know it well.

But yes, Ozai was very well handled in the Original show.

Now...

On to Netflix.

Well, here's where I have mixed feelings.

There is no mystery to him, but I get why they took this approach. If they went with the mystery, it would be a shot for shot rehash and that's not what the show runners were trying to do. It does give us a more personal dynamic between Ozai and Iroh, which I had always been curious about. But there is more to it.

Here, we get a more manipulative, egotistical Ozai. He is manipulating his children against each other to see who comes out on top. We don't really see that in the Original. We get hints that it's happening, but here, it's shoved in our faces and it's brutal. You can already see Azula cracking from this and it's handled much better (in my opinion). I don't want to see the same thing we got with Game of Thrones (I'm talking about Dany going all mad queen all of a sudden). I want to see the strings being pulled. This actually cements Ozai as an even worse father than in the OG.

To be fair, I'm also looking at this from the point of view as a parent (or something of the sort. I can't have children, but I have a niece that is the next best thing). It's funny how as you get older you start to see things from a different point of view.

Anyway, Daniel Dae Kim does an excellent job at this portrayal of everyone's most hated Fatherlord. Although, I think in the OG Ozai is around my current age, if not a little older. Daniel is definitely a good few years older than I am, *checks notes* Yeah, he's two decades older than me.

And

His workout routine.

Anyway, moving past my lustful eyes.

Okay, back to character analysis... (get your mind out of the gutter, Story, you've got shit to write) Ozai in the live action is probably one of the better performances. I mean, you can actually see a little bit of conflict in the character when it comes to Zuko. Ultimately, narcissism wins out.

I'll probably write about Azula next.
