The Ties of Fate

The bells were ringing again. It was a sound they all dreaded, a sound that dampened the usual cheer of the dawn of a new day.

It was the sound of war.

Will Barret lowered the bow—the bow he’d made from a tree branch—and turned to watch as the single rider made his way along the road. A coil of unease slithered inside him, and without a second thought, he leaped through the little woods, towards the farmhouse in the field.

Daniel was already outside, carrying the shovel back into the barn. “Dad!” Will shouted. His father looked up and waved a hand, stopping as he waited.

“Is everything alright?”

He slowed down, panting. “Rider,” he said, letting out a slow breath. “There’s a rider coming.”

This is my AU submission for the Ranger assessment! (More info under the cut)

It’s kinda of a reversal AU, but also not really because about half of it remains the same. It’s also still very rough so I haven’t figured out all the logistics yet.

Morgarath was never defeated. In fact, the original war continued on much longer, with each group taking heavy losses. So much so that it came to a point where a tense truce was offered.

Unfortunately, Morgarath’s advances reached from Gorlan to a shaky line across Araluen. Thus Araluen was split into Duncan’s land and Morgarath’s land (now known as Tenebris).

The erasure of the Ranger Corps did happen. And Crowley did end up uniting the Originals to help Duncan. Unlike in the main timeline, he did it alone.

Halt O’Carrick, once heir to the throne of Dun Kilty, faced the same assassination attempts from his brother Ferris. It was around the third attempt that their father grew extremely ill.

Instead of allowing Ferris to take the throne, Halt was determined to keep his brother’s corruption from spreading. So he stayed. Caitlyn was the first to know. Halt had his own ensemble that was loyal to him, and managed to keep Ferris compliant for the time being. And so when the King died, Halt took the throne.

In this AU, he still met Pritchard and trained with him. His main weapon is still a bow and arrow. He has his own guards practice the weapon as well. For a while, everything went relatively smoothly.

There was no Ranger to save, and Daniel survived. The other two who ransacked his home in the original story (I can’t remember their names) still tried to pull their stunt but were unsuccessful. His wife lived and so did Will. For fifteen years, all was still.

(For reference, I gave them the last name of Barret. Vira is his wife and Will’s mother)

When the war commences once more, Will is forced back into it as well as his father. Will proves to be not so competent in most weaponry and finds himself with the archers.

The rest of the Wards are still in their respective places. As Morgarath plans, Battleschool students, Diplomats, and Scribes are all doing their own part.

Horace is a natural when it comes to swordsmanship, but not when it comes to fitting in. His mother lives alone, and he worries about her every day. Alda, Bryn, and Jerome make his life a living hell every day and he almost wishes he never joined.

Alyss strives to be everything Lady Pauline is. Her family is still gone, and so she did grow up in the Ward with George and a few others. Coincidentally, a popular baker in town frequents Castle Redmont to help with any major events. Her daughter, Jenny, often tags along and spends time with Alyss and George.

Never given the opportunity to choose another path, Gilan is a respected knight in Caraway. He still looks to the Rangers with longing and envy, but he knows it’s far too late to join. And besides, this is what everyone expected of him, right? As the Battlemaster’s son, it’s only natural.

At the start of the AU, Cassandra is placed in Celtica. Which geographically speaking is still weird because I have no idea how she would have made it even with a truce, but I’ll figure it out. The war did start again some time after she had arrived, so there’s that. Madelydd and her get into all sorts of antics and enjoy spending time with one another.

As the war starts, Crowley and Duncan are noticeably concerned about the growing size of Morgarath’s army. They will need more support if they have any hope of winning, but international relationships are not so well off. Fortunately, though small, an army from Hibernia decides to cut in on the decision of one of the six Kings - Halt O’Carrick

And of course, Ferris sees this as the perfect moment to strike. His brother leaves Caitlyn and Ferris in charge, not without sparing a few of his men to keep an eye on his brother. Unfortunately, Ferris has his own loyal followers. If the King were to leave to fight a war and never return, no one would bat an eye, after all.

No one except Caitlyn.

Anyways, that’s all I have for now! Everything will tie together eventually, I just have to figure out how to get there, lol.

Zoey 102 Thoughts

-This movie was quite fun.

-Praise to the director because the cinematography was on point. The scene where Quinn throws her veil in the air and the scene where Zoey bumps into the waiters are notable scenes.

- Zoey is trash. She ditched Chase in Hawaii and didn’t contact him for weeks and she ruined Quinn and Logan’s wedding and the show because she thought she could do both. She is a very selfish person.

-Chase is also trash. Very obviously being jealous over your high school ex while your recent ex who is pretending to still be your girlfriend is there is not a good look buddy. Also I don’t care if he didn’t technically cheat, he still humiliated Danielle by spending all that time with Zoey and kissing her because everyone else thinks he cheated.

-In conclusion, Chase and Zoey are both trash so they definitely deserve each other. Yet, I couldn’t care about any of their scenes together because they are such a bland couple. They do not have any of the fire and banter that Quinn and Logan have. I didn’t ship Zoey and Chase in the og show either.

-The other characters (besides Zoey and Chase) were the highlights of the movie.

-I find it criminal that we barely got any Michael scenes/backstory. How did Stacey and Mark get more screentime when they were only recurring characters in the og show while Michael was a main. Also why was Michael the only one without a significant other??? They could have given him somebody.

-The Quinn and Logan moments were adorable.

So, we are back. Man, it's so unfair that when we finally got new showrunners they got canceled.

This episode was so meh. I know they had to establish what happened after the season finale and where this season is going but they need to stop with this crisis one thing. These cases are Boooring.

Vic is so smart, and pretty, and hot. She deserves every good thing in the world. I know Barret would kill it in an action scene, why is she getting these cases and with Theo nonetheless. I love that she didn't give a fuck about Theo making out with the other woman. And he looked so hurt ha ha loser.

Travis is so boring. He was boring, still boring, he will always be boring.

Now Captain Andy was ok, I guess. I just hate when shows believe their audience is dumb. Andy has some doubts about being captain so they decided to show it through Ghost Jack. Who, mind you, has always supported Andy in everything.

When Andy said "I support every single person that was promoted over me" mmm 🤔sort of, Maya would like a word, please.

I didn't like Maya's speech to Andy. I don't know why.

Now, I'm curious about where they are going with Jack's storyline. Is Grey Damon leaving the show or did he want to leave but now that this is the last season he is staying? Cause we barely cared about Jack, imagine now that he can't be a firefighter.

Now Maya and Carina, the only reason that I'm still watching this show. Like look how Maya looks at her

Danielle you are acting choices never stop to amazed me.

First, Carina had a problem with the apartment then she didn't but she still does tho. So, they are moving to a house. I like this idea because they never tried to make the apartment look like Carina lived there, it barely looked like Maya's.

Then, they adopted a baby named Liam(?) surprising no one. But they're keeping the IVF idea.

My guess is that after a thousand seasons of trying to have a baby and Carina saying in talking about sperm and being pregnant, they didn't want to throw that storyline away.

The adoption felt rushed. They should have had at least a conversation about it because it wasn't their plan at all.

Also, it means they are rich, because a new house, a new baby, and IVF treatment all simultaneously? Honey, that's not cheap.

Having all that money and couldn't change the sheets for six seasons. But they will do it this season. It's ugly as hell but they did it.

Love Maya not caring a bit about Jack.

Hate they chose that version of the kiss. Even though, as Danielle explained, they were fully making out. And I get it they were in a public space, Carina's job. They had to tone it down. But look at the material

I'm not a writer AT ALL, but what if instead of having that conversation there in front of everybody, Carina took Maya to her office they had a conversation there and they could have kissed properly. Maybe, talk about adopting, just saying.

Like, you have enough creativity to have Travis having sex with Emmet, who's grieving btw, in a house where his mother is also grieving and with the door open.

Okay, now I need an Omegaverse LaKreese during the ‘Nam era. Of course only Alphas are permitted (and drafted) to the military, and John’s one of those that straight up volunteered. He and Daniel are seriously dating, and John promises to come back and make an honest omega of Daniel with a ring. For now though, the bite will do it, so everyone will know the kid is taken even though his Alpha is far away. 

But Daniel wants more, and he looks up at John in his uniform before placing his large hand on his womb, entwining John’s fingers with his and says, “What about giving me something else to remember you by, John?”

John hesitates, because even though his Alpha urges are screaming at him to knot his omega, Daniel’s so young, and old-fashioned John would rather have a ring on it than just get him with pup and be unmarried. But those doe eyes, and how sweet Daniel smells, and how pretty he is, and how much he wants it…

So John spends the night before he leaves with Daniel under him, and the boy’s legs wrapped around him. And then a few months later, John gets a letter, and there’s a picture of Daniel with a small swell to his normally slender figure. 

Looks like it took, John he writes. 

I'm definitely picturing Barret as John in this scenario.

They were high school sweethearts, but John is probably a few years older. He's graduated high school and is taking off jobs here and there while Daniel is still in his senior year, maybe.

And of course, now John HAS to come back ( not that he wasn't planning on it before hand ) because he's gotta make Daniel a proper omega now. Daniel's Ma probably has a conniption, but she loves him unconditionally.

When they get married their first born is dressed up as the flower girl or ring bearer.

Barret was still close to Alisha (the producer that traveled with her and D). They even did a long summer vacation and then she deleted a post with B and they were never seen together again. D and her seem civil? Like to be liking on insta and laugh together on set (B even was hugging her on all her director stuff) so for me is the classic thing when people don't fight but stop hanging out (I mean, comparing them to people we know cant stand each other lol)

People fought over this on twitter because someone said B had unfollowed K and in reality she never followed him before lol, so thats why people may avoid this, because it already caused drama by some trolls.

I didn't know she deleted it, that's interesting. But I do remember that Barrett went to go visit her wherever she was and they spent some time vacationing together and it seemed odd that Danielle wasn't with them since they had that whole 'BAD' thing going on. But yeah, Danielle and Barrett are for sure civil and there doesn't always have to be some big drama thing that causes two people to have a falling out or drift apart. Sadly sometimes it just happens and people gravitate towards other people for other reasons. I'm sure they still enjoy time together on set and all of that but just don't seem to hang out much otherwise like they used to. And it definitely doesn't have anything to do with Kevin so that's stupid.

Dr. Lionel Barret is a physicist who is interested in parapsychology. 30 years prior, at the Belasco House in Maine, there was a murder, of Emeric Belasco's son Daniel. Because of the horrific events that took place at the Belasco House, it has been dubbed "Hell House" and many who enter the home never leave it.

Dr. Barret, along with his wife Edith and two mediums, Florence Tanner and Benjamin Franklin Fischer himself a survivor of the event 30 years ago, enter Hell House, hired by a dying millionaire, William Reindhardt Deutsch, to investigate the possibility of life after death for a week.

So to start off this review I just have to be probably the 4 millionth person to point out the similarities between this novel and The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, which preceded this novel by 12 years. That novel also has a psychic researcher enter a damned haunted house to research the paranormal with a group of people, one of whom is related to the house. I don't really know if Matheson ever touched on this? But that novel and it's 1963 film adaptation were famous and Matheson had strong ties to Hollywood, so it's unlikely he would have been unaware of either Jackson's book or the film. Not saying he plagiarized the story, I mean it's a fairly common tropey horror story at this point and as the saying goes, there's only really five stories out there, but I just thought it worth mentioning the similarities.

That said, there’s a level of debauchery and sexuality that is only hinted at in Jackson’s story that is ever present here and leads to a much more in-your-face level of danger and horror as the female characters are alone in the haunted mansion and where Haunting of Hill House relies on subtle horror, the scares in Hell House are more of a modern style, more “BOO” than “Ooooooo”, literally in one point of the novel.
