Y’know. Anakin was a real asshole in Ahsoka’s hallucination.

Like. She mentions something about what she’ll be able to teach her padawan one day, since all she’s being taught is how to be a soldier, and Anakin’s like “teaching’s not all it’s cracked up to be”

And like. Asshole move. And Ahsoka rightfully calls him out on it. And he goes on the whole “uuuh I was joking. Lighten up.” Literally a complete jackass.

But beyond how he answered the question, it’s a valid complaint Ahsoka is bringing up! Anakin’s teaching her how to live or die. But Ahsoka wants to be taught how to be a jedi.

What happens after the war is over (order 66 never happens) and she now has to navigate a galaxy without a war? The Jedi take teaching very seriously there’s no greater honor than teaching a padawan. And she’s not being accurately taught, so she will not be able to pass anything on to the next generation.

But Anakin brushes it aside because he simply does not respect her or her wishes. Like. He never wanted a padawan, despite teaching being foundational to the Jedi. And he only took ahsoka in because he started to like her and became attached to her. He doesn’t care about jedi legacy, not really. So he brushes her comment off with a joke.

But in the rest of the vision… idk it didn’t feel like we were supposed view Anakin as entirely wrong here. He wasn’t in the right, he was definitely channeling Vader and being an ass, but he was basically the reason Ahsoka survived the fall, right? Bc he was making her choose life? When Ahsoka wins against him it’s sort of like she’s both learned his lesson and moved beyond him. And then for the rest of the season he’s only talked about in positive ways.

And like. That one line ahsoka said was really powerful in relation to the entire point of the show. What does she have to pass onto her own padawan (Sabine) if she wasn’t properly trained herself? That is, perhaps, the only valid plot question asked in the entire show. And it doesn’t get an answer. It’s never even brought up again.

ACCORDION DAVE: we see in the show that he’s quite low-energy, but I don’t think we see him enough to get a full understanding of his character. ‘low energy with an accent and one (1) hobby’ does not a character make. SO in my heart of hearts he’s sort of like Maud Pie from My Little Pony. deadpan and monotonous, but unexpectedly genuine. my personal Dave is not super sarcastic, like I see in the rare accordion Dave post — to me, he’s a one-liner guy. he’s funny and kind and an absolute BEAST at call of duty. he stays up into the wee hours of the morning grinding. he carries his friends in every game

Understanding this is I feel a prelude to understanding the end of homestuck itself tbh... Like I can't say I know for sure if the type of ending we got was planned from the beginning or if it came about on account of how difficult it became to finish. But I've seen so many analysis/opinions of the ending like "oh this is bad" "this is nothing, lazy" "nobody besides x got a good arc" "it was unsatisfying" "they left before the epic boss fight???" etc etc. And those complaints and criticisms are valid from the pov of an audience reading a story and idc if people feel them. But I also so strongly feel that they've missed the whole point...

They left! They got the fuck out! The surviving characters saw the regimented story structure/heroes journey for what it is and fucking left!!! They don't owe us shit, they don't need to complete satisfying arcs for some kind of end goal. They don't need to complete the game properly or 100% it for our lore satisfaction. The thing they always wanted to do was get out and live peacefully with their families and friends! Like Dave said, real people don't have arcs. And to themselves they are real people!!!

They completed the "requirements" of the game in a more convoluted and circuitous way than expected(based on how it parallels the growing up process, could reflect for instance how in reality people take a longer time getting through school, or pursue alternate education, trade school, get a job immediately, do something else than a conventional job to aquire money, leave their family early... Etc ways people subvert the expected growing up process in different ways) and got the fuck out!!(free to live a life they want with their chosen family and in their chosen ways. But which based on beyond Canon will still be influenced by their upbringing and instilled values) and they deserved to fr!

Idk I guess you can make the case that this theme is not conveyed properly thought out the comic, and yeah maybe... But tbh imo you cannot properly understand homestuck unless you read it about 3 times at the very least, and intentionally seek out authors notes like this and background context to this decade+ old work. And yeah you could say that makes the comic bad or unfriendly to readers ig. But idk imo some media is just more that you can get one one read/watch/playthrough... And it IS supposed to imitate a video game with splitting timelines and game overs and different endings after all

If someone wants to add on to this/reflect off my thoughts to continue ily, but also disclaimer that I Do enjoy Beyond Canon and am fascinated by its developments and how it adds to this theme, despite how it kind of breaks the ending(well it is still presented as just one of a possible way to continue and not the ultimate Canon so imo it doesn't break it any more than any other fanadventures do) and do not wish to engage in unnecessary bullshit discourse, criticism and discussion is fine

this is one is important as fuck i see so many people not understand this and it drives me crazy

"Sburb ruins, mythic challenges, and personal quests generally tend to come off as shallow busywork, stage props, or set pieces in a spurious Hero's Journey. Rose either faintly glimpses this truth at this early stage, or she's just hitting her rebellious teen stride. Either way, she doesn't take the surface value of the quest seriously at all, and only wants to smash it apart and loot the secrets. My sense is that the average reader reacts to this impulse unfavorably. Because readers watch the formula play out so often, they are trained heavily to respect the journey of the hero, to anticipate and crave its fulfillment, to see it as something verging on contractual in their relationship with a story. So a gut-response to this recklessness is like, "ROSE, NO! STOP THAT! You simply must complete your quest and play the rain!" What comes with this view is the feeling that her evolution as a character is only being delayed for a bit while she gets some anti-narrative foolishness out of her system, and then we'll get down to business and watch her do her quest, play a whole BUNCH of rain, and reap the narrative satisfaction. There's just one problem: she never does that. This candy-coated Kiddie Kwest is at no point ever taken seriously by Rose or the narrative itself, nor should it be.

When trying to parse character arcs, we look out for certain beacons. So when we hear "play the rain," we're like, ah, GOT IT. That's Rose's arc. Once she finally gets over this destructive teen bullshit, she can wise up, play the rain, and her arc will be finished. Wrong. This is almost a red herring arc. Her quest on this planet, its patronizing presentation, its intrinsic shallowness, is a mirage surrounding her that represents a fully regimented series of milestones for achievement and personal growth, much as society dubiously presents to young people in many forms. The true arc-within-the-arc is actually an upside-down version of what it appears to be. What Rose is doing now, which seems to be misguided recklessness taking her further away from the truth of herself, is actually better seen as a good start to her real journey: breaching the mirage of regimented growth, exposing it for the charade it is, and pulling the truth out of it. The real conflict in her arc comes not from the fact that she refuses to take it seriously, by destroying it and taking shortcuts. It's the opposite. It's that, upon trashing her planet, she continues to have this nagging sense that she should be taking this quest seriously, much like how a young adult may have a nagging sense of guilt that they aren't "being an adult right" by the time they approach adulthood. And this nagging, unanswerable guilt arises from the truth that the regimentation of adulthood is completely fake. It was always a mirage. Learning this, making peace with it, is part of the growing process for many, and it is for her too." -Andrew Hussie

Desperate Times, Desperate Measures

Prompt: Faking the Dead | Word Count: 1320 | Rating: T | CW: Temporary Character Death, Language | POV: Gareth | Relationship(s): Corroded Coffin & Eddie, Background Steddie | Tags: Post S4, There's Finally a Funeral to Attend, And For Some Reason Gareth Has to Sit Next to Steve Harrington

Gareth sits in the front row, the only row, really. Everybody in attendance fits under the small, enclosed tent the funeral home set up over the folding chairs. He's never been to a graveside service that was so claustrophobic before. He understands that it was to keep it private. Because when the dead guy has been accused of unspeakable crimes, you don't mourn them in public. Out loud.

No, you do it privately, sequestered away. Long after the fact. Months of limbo, of Wayne saying that they're waiting until the time is right. Until the town has settled down. Until the headstone is ready.

He doesn't know why they waited for that. The town's never gonna settle down about this, about Eddie, and Gareth can barely see the headstone here in the dark.

Of course, there was no rush. No body to bury. No hole dug at all. Which means the fake green Astroturf they've laid is useless. Out for no reason at all. It's wrinkled under his feet, and he toes at one of the bubbles of trapped air. 

Gareth's not gonna cry. He's already done that, and he's not about to do it again while seated between Jeff and Steve Harrington. 

The preacher from Wayne's church is condemning Eddie. Nicely, kind of, but definitely not sugarcoating the memory of Eddie Munson, or his unspeakable actions, right at his own funeral. Gareth silently fumes, balling his hands into fists. Itching to start a fight. Make a scene. 

How much trouble would he be in if he pops Pastor Dave right in the kisser?

Steve Harrington puts a hand over his, stopping his thought before it can fully form into a plan. He looks over at him, and Steve shakes his head. 

Fuck. What the fuck does he know? He barely knew Eddie. Not like Gareth did. Not like Jeff and Goodie did. He wasn't friends with him. He doesn't even deserve to be here.

Henderson doesn't even look sad. Quietly joking with Mike as Lucas tries to shush them, and it looks like Steve wishes he'd sat over there instead, just to keep them in line. He didn't need to, apparently, because Erica leans forward, says something short and to the point, and they both straighten up and fly right. 

Gareth sulks back into his uncomfortable folding chair, and listens to more lies being told about an Eddie that never existed, a demonized version, as his best friend is laid to rest.

Afterwards, Steve has the other boys cornered near a tree, reading them the riot act. They don't look sorry. Not at all. 

Eddie died, and they're already over it. Gareth's never gonna be over it.

Jeff's standing at his mom's station wagon, waiting on Gareth. Goodie is already settled into the front seat, as always. Gareth heads their way, and when he slides in the backseat, he's surprised that Steve Harrington slides in right after him.

"Uh, hi?" Gareth says.

"Drive," Steve says.

"But your car," Jeff answers.

"Nance has it. Drive," he demands for a second time, and well, Jeff drives. 

Once they are back on the highway, after leaving the winding roads of the cemetery, Steve starts giving directions. Jeff follows them, and Gareth isn't all that sure why. They don't even like Steve Harrington. Why are they letting him call the shots of where they're going?

Jeff doesn't protest until they're out past the city limits sign. 

"Steve, like, I get that you're going through something, but I gotta get my mom's car home," Jeff says, and Gareth knows that's not really true. Mrs. Williams isn't that strict. 

"Just drive," Steve says, and Jeff does. They all stay silent as he insists that they turn off onto a gravel road. After following it for a while, ignoring a DEAD END sign, they find a heavy, locked gate. Steve has a key, and swings the gate open, letting them pass. Then he locks it behind them. 

Jeff starts easing down the even shittier dirt road that is absolutely plastered in PRIVATE PROPERTY KEEP OUT signs. Jeff meets Gareth's eyes through the rear view mirror. Gareth shrugs. Fuck if he knows.

At the end of the long, bumpy, washed out trail that can hardly be called a road at this point, they come upon a lake, with a trailer right near the water.

"What are we doing out here, man?" Gareth asks. But his question is answered when the door to the trailer swings open. 

There's Eddie. Hair cut short, in clothes that look straight out of Steve's closet. But it's definitely him. Alive and well. When he smiles and waves, Gareth makes a sound that he wouldn't have ever assumed he could make, flinging open the car door, and running.

Eddie catches him, but winces, "Easy, I'm still a little chewed up over here."

Reluctantly, Gareth lets him go. He can't believe he's here. Alive. Can't believe that Steve Harrington knew and didn't tell anybody—

Oh. 

Everybody at the funeral knew. Everybody but them.

"Does Wayne know?"

"Wayne knows," Eddie reassures, and leads them in through the trailer and out the other side, onto the back deck. It's peaceful, not another soul around for miles. There are birds hovering around a tall birdhouse, wings fluttering, and Gareth catches Eddie watching them.

"Whose place is this?" Jeff asks, looking around.

"Hopper's," Steve answers, reaching down into the old Coleman cooler, pulling out a dripping wet bottle of beer from the ice. He pops off the cap on the railing, and plops down in one of the deck chairs. 

"Can I?" Gareth asks, motioning towards the cooler, and Eddie and Steve both say 'no' at the exact same time. Assholes.

"Are you…are you staying here? For good? Or is this just a temporary stop?" Gareth asks.

"Probably temporary," Eddie admits, and Gareth's face falls. Eddie must see it, because he bumps his hip against Gareth's, "Hey. This is a little too close to Hawkins, you know?"

"But—"

"You can come wherever I go. After you graduate. Promise. I'm not getting wiped off the face of the earth. Just laying low."

"You faked your death," Goodie says, "you're not hiding out at Skull Rock. This is a little more than laying low."

Eddie laughs, "Desperate times, desperate measures. All that. Wanna see some gnarly scars?"

And they do, so Eddie sheds his shirt, then tugs his jeans down really low.

"Did it get your dick?" Goodie asks, "Because I don't wanna see your mangled dick. I don't want to see any version of your dick."

Steve laughs, stretching out, putting his feet up on the railing. Crossing them at the ankle. Clearly comfortable here, and not at all interested in Eddie's scars. Though, Gareth supposes he's seen them before. He was involved in this whole mess, Gareth knows that much.

"How'd you? We thought?" Gareth asks, thumb pressing into Eddie's jaw, right above the scar on his neck that looks like it should have killed him.

"Steve's more stubborn than I am, somehow," Eddie answers, and Steve just grins, lips pressed to the bottle in his hand. "The bastard just refused to let me die."

"And I'll do it again, if you decide to do something else stupid," Steve says with a laugh, so they all laugh too, even if it's not all that funny. Not an exaggeration. Because it's evident all over Eddie's skin that the funeral today probably could have been real. He really did almost die. 

Eddie pulls his shirt back over his head, and leans up against the railing, looking out over the still, peaceful water. 

"It's nice out here," Gareth says. He doesn't know exactly what Eddie went through, and supposes he'll learn the details in time. For right now, he's absolutely certain that Eddie deserves some peace.

"It is," Eddie agrees, smiling over at Gareth, "and even nicer now that you're all here."

I think Ahsoka has been overcooked and undercooked in Filoni’s brain at the same time, I think he’s spent so long thinking about this story he wants to tell that he’s no longer writing the connections that the story needs, that those of us outside his brain haven’t had the last ten years of simmering with to assimilate into our background noise, while also I think he hasn’t spent enough time really digging into the smaller details. Sabine’s character is the epitome of this for me--there’s clearly so much thought he’s given her in this show, the little details in that room that are so packed full you’d need to pause the video to see everything, where you can see Ezra’s helmet or Sabine’s helmet on the quick pan through the scene, where the scene she cuts her hair is a callback to Kanan cutting his hair as he’s ready to step back onto a new path, the Ezra hologram that was specifically for her, she’s allowed to be angry and messy, etc., you can’t say that Filoni didn’t give her a ton of thought! But she’s also undercooked in this show because there’s this entire relationship she had with Ahsoka that takes place off-screen and dramatically changes their dynamic without acknowledging that it’s a change for us, the audience. And there’s an entire motivation for “Why the hell does Sabine want to be a Jedi?” and “Why did Sabine set aside her Mandalorian armor?” that’s just not there because I think Felony has spent so much time thinking about Sabine’s journey, about her connection to Ezra and how to weave Ahsoka as a mentor (because of Ahsoka’s own issues with masters and apprentices, he wants to play on those themes), that he’s been writing this in his head since he first finished the Rebels finale’s script, that he’s no longer writing it on the actual paper for us the audience. I can’t shake the feeling that he’s spent too long with this story in his head, so he’s just made connections that have become part of the scenery for him, like, of course Sabine set aside her armor, of course Sabine was training with Ezra’s lightsaber with Jedi training, of course she’s Ahsoka’s Padawan, meanwhile I just finished watching Rebels and am going, “Dave, what the hell are you talking about, none of that was in the show I just finished speedrunning to watch this show!”

The camera on your phone was perfectly angled, slightly tilted and half-hidden behind the potted plant in the hallway outside Lando’s gaming room. You did a quick mic check—well, not really, just whispered to yourself, “Oscar goes to me today”—then hit record.

Wearing a pair of black leggings and one of Lando’s oversized hoodies (conveniently hiding your secret prank weapon tucked into the waistband), you took a deep breath and slipped into character.

The door to the gaming room was open slightly, and from inside, you could hear the unmistakable sounds of laughter and rapid keyboard tapping. Max and Dave were already in there with him, no doubt mid-race or causing digital carnage in whatever game they were on.

You stepped in, face solemn.

Lando glanced up and smiled when he saw you. “Hey, baby—oh, you’re wearing my hoodie again,” he grinned, clearly distracted by how cute you looked.

“Can I talk to you?” you said quietly, your voice flat.

The grin slid right off his face. “Yeah. Of course.”

Max raised a brow, looking up from his chair. Dave glanced between you both.

“Should we leave?” Max offered gently.

You shook your head. “No, it’s fine. I just need to speak to Lando privately… it’s a bit serious.”

Lando was already rising from his seat, eyes fixed on you with growing concern. “Hey, what’s wrong?” He guided you toward the corner of the room, just out of his friends’ full view—but not out of earshot.

You stared at him, solemn. “I went to the doctor yesterday.”

His face paled instantly. “Why didn’t you tell me you were going? What happened?”

You swallowed dramatically. “They did some tests… and they said I have something. It runs in my family.”

Lando’s hand cupped your arm gently. “What is it?”

“Hypertension disease,” you said, adding the most believable sigh. “It’s… rare. Chronic. Mostly manageable, but…”

He looked like he was bracing for the worst.

“It has symptoms,” you continued gravely. “A lot of them.”

“Like what?” he asked quickly, brows furrowed, clearly ready to drop everything in his life to take care of you.

You took another pause. “Well… one of the main things is… bad odor.”

He blinked. “What kind of odor?”

You looked away. “Like… constant body odor. And farting.”

His mouth fell open slightly. “Farting?”

You nodded, keeping your face serious. “It’s genetic. My aunt had it. I remember she used to walk into a room and clear it in five seconds.”

Behind you, Max coughed loudly—too loudly.

Dave whispered, “Nooo way.”

Lando looked like he was trying to hold it together, but his concern was losing a battle with confusion.

“So…” he said cautiously, “you’re gonna… fart. A lot?”

You nodded solemnly. “Like… it could happen anytime. I might not even know.”

He blinked again. “Oh. Uh… I mean, that’s—fine. That’s okay. We’ll get through this together.”

You blinked up at him. “You’d still love me?”

“Of course!” he exclaimed, a bit too quickly. “I mean, everyone farts, right?”

You took a shaky breath and stepped forward, hugging him tightly—and pressed the fart toy inside your hoodie.

PPPPPFFFFFTTTT.

Lando stiffened like a statue.

Max immediately wheezed from behind the desk. Dave choked on his drink.

You buried your face into Lando’s chest, biting your lip so hard not to laugh as the sound echoed.

“Oh my god,” Lando whispered. “That was loud. Are you okay?!”

You nodded into him, still ‘sniffling.’

“It’s starting,” you whispered dramatically. Then—PPPPPFFFFFTTTTTT again.

Lando jolted. “Babe—oh my god—are you SURE this is—?!”

Max was hunched over in the background, shoulders shaking violently. Dave had turned his chair around, facing the wall, clearly trying not to combust.

“I—” Lando began, then cut himself off, waving a hand in front of his face. “I’m here for you. But that’s—wow.”

That was it. You couldn’t hold it anymore.

You stepped back, eyes wide, and then exploded into laughter.

Lando stared. “You’re LAUGHING?!”

You pulled out the tiny fart toy from your waistband, still howling with laughter, nearly collapsing against the wall. “Oh my god, your face! Your face! You looked like you were ready to call NASA for help.”

Max had collapsed in his chair, crying with laughter. “Bro… the concern! I thought you were gonna throw her a sympathy candle and Febreze at the same time.”

Dave added, “I was two seconds away from leaving the room before the next explosion.”

Lando just stood there, still half-stunned, lips parted in betrayal.

“You lied about having a farting disease,” he said slowly. “You created a whole backstory.”

You wiped your tears. “Hypertension disease. It runs in my family.”

He shook his head, laughing now despite himself. “You’re insane. You actually got me. I was about to Google ‘chronic fart conditions’ and buy ten air purifiers.”

You tackled him in another hug, still giggling. “That’s why I love you. You’re patient, even with a fictional diagnosis involving fatal gas.”

“I was ready to live in a Dutch oven with you,” he mumbled, kissing your forehead. “But I’m getting revenge. Just wait.”

From the background, Max raised a hand. “Just let me know when you’re planning it. I want front row seats.”

You grinned and winked. “Only if you promise not to fart during it.”

2-2025- List usage: Thoughts welcome- is it being used? This project is my little contribution to our space here on tumblr, having seen comments about difficulties finding black authors and artists. I'm familiar with an incredible number of creators now; I'm so proud of us. I choose to do this unsolicited and unfortunately, this may not be a needed solution. I formatted the list about a year ago and have maintained it, which I think is something important and unique about it (every entry checked about once a month), hoping it might be beneficial. Many of you send thanks for being added to the list. But within the last year, less than five individuals have shared with me that they've actually used it (likes and reblogs aren't necessarily indicative of that) and very, very few have either asked to be added or sent additional writers/artists my way. Those requests have been clear virtually since the beginning. Without feedback I assume the list isn't impactful and that's fine. I'll wait until the end of March to decide whether to continue. Darlings: This is a directory of Black individuals who create- different backgrounds, experiences, interests, etc-incl. a variety of preferences, writing styles, subgenres, fandoms, etc. Remember as you read: We don't all look alike, talk a like, live alike- and that's to be praised.

The focus is fan works creators: You’ll see some original fics/original art, and plenty of original characters in general.

Some thoughts, with respect (roll your eyes if you’d like, it’s a lot of the same ole same old… if you do roll your eyes, send me a video of you doing it and I’ll try to care… jk I’m being cheeky, but there may be some newer folks here who might find this helpful!!):.

We’re very obviously diverse in artistic/creative style, speech, experience, philosophies, takes on the world, how frequently we post/ how prolific, our perspectives, personalities, all that… so find what you like, skip what you don't (Settings - Filtering for what you don’t want to fully see or just block). REBLOG (THEY’RE FAR MORE IMPORTANT THAN LIKES). GIVE PRAISE. THANK PEOPLE. particularly with specifics (I’m working on all this too, my lazy ass), we don’t need more of us to leave… ✔️

Creating and pinning a masterlist is SO HELPFUL! ppl can better find your original works OR use a unique tag for each of your works so that ppl can search within your blog. ✔️

Tagging is important for your works and what you reblog- character or fandom x black reader, x black!reader, x fluff, x smut, x smut with feelings, #blk fanfic writers, #blk writers, # blk fanfiction, see how others use tags, there are a shit ton more ✔️

Adding name and age to your blog is smart. Many, many folks have blogs that include explicit content and topics, and they choose to use age restrictions block those who follow or reach out to interact if a name/age aren’t listed on that person’s blog ✔️
