20th oct 2024, today i managed to study for 4 hours which is pretty much all i managed since friday. to be completely honest i’ve been procrastinating all week long but are we surprised :/ ?

went to a uni open day yesterday, it really made me feel like i need to lock in if i even want to stand a chance at getting into undergrad med haha. definitely need to be doing much, much more if i want that A in chem. today i did notes on mod 4 psych on operant conditioning & did a topic test (which was wayyy harder than it should’ve been 💀)

not a very productive weekend let alone a productive week. got a job though (woohoo!) but at the very same time caught this horrible cold from thursday ;-; . anyway, need to do lotsss of chem, got mocks in november and january so i need to really get back into the study grind !! see you all tomorrow. bye-bye ! rara ♡

I've been losing a fistfight to mental illness lately but am making progress:

-Bethany's sin review is in progress! I don't think it'll be very long (atm I'm 2k in, my guess would be 6k length, so half an hour?) but who knows.

-my fallen london lore vid (part 1) is MOSTLY done. The main issue is deciding when to call it finished— a lot of admin choices about how much info to give when, what order stuff should be in, etc. I want to strike a balance between spoilers and cool info— "if I wanted to tell a pal about FL, how much lore would I spoil to intrigue them?" Stuff like the Masters being capitalist space bats is technically a big spoiler, but also a huge draw to get peopleto check the game out! Later I hope to do a part 2, part 3 and actually get in depth on the more esoteric aspects of the world, but I want this to be a layman's introduction.

-after these, I still do not have a next book/series picked out. I have so many options and suggestions.... my instinct though is that it is time I read The Cage, aka That YA Book Trilogy About A Human Zoo. That sounds fun.

the thoughts have cooked, and it's the way they made the very conscious choice to include Buck in Eddie's moment of joy, and not just because Buck is fundamentally rooted in every aspect of Eddie's life, especially the good parts

but it's the way they gave Buck a negative experience in that moment.

an experience Eddie could have so easily broken his moment for, to give everything to Buck in that moment and push aside his own needs and desires and existence

but he didn't

welcomed Buck into his moment.

the moment of joy, taking just a few minutes to just do something for the fuck of it because it makes him happy is obviously an amazing step that would be enough right there

BUT THEY TOOK IT A STEP FARTHER

not only is Mr. Eddie Diaz taking a moment for joy, he's keeping that moment of joy when he could drop it for the sake of being there for his friend. like the episode starts with him saying "I put my desires before his needs" and implying that there is no space in the world for Eddie Diaz and his feelings/desires/needs, and they end the episode with Eddie allowing himself to experience a moment of joy purely for himself WHILE ALSO making space for someone else and being exactly what he needed just by physically being there and existing

because his desires and other peoples desires can be equally important

his needs and other people's needs can be equally important

and someone else said something about how neither of them have to do anything to support each other or provide any kind of service to be valuable

all they have to do is just exist and that is good enough for the other

(I cannot remember who made that post but that shit has been in my mind rent free every since so shout out to whoever that was)

and its just literally that

but also the fact that they make space for each other to exist however they are in that moment

they can be on the complete opposites of the emotional spectrum and sit together in silence and that is good enough

I honestly have no fucking clue what love is, but I think its whatever they have

Demigods in The Silt Verses

~~ spoilers for the entire show~~

Relistening to TSV and I won't lie, alot is blotted from my memory due to the trauma this show has given me (in the good way), however finishing season 1 I feel like we only see 2 proper demigods?

The most obvious is Val, her and TheLast Word have intertwined so much that she is it and it is she. From what I remember The Last Word is a new propaganda God, so it would make sense she's it's only disciple and therefore able to completely co-exist within her. Not like a larger faith where the constant pulling from other worshipers means it'll hurridly create saints before moving to the next call.

Val is called a battle saint but the level of autonomy, internal thought, and "humanity" she's retained makes her seem like a true demi(in the purist sense)-God.

The second is almost the opposite, but also not.

Paige.

In some regards they're similar, both Paige and Val want to change the world they live in, and both The Last Word and The Wound Tree want to help facilitate that. What's different is that Paige won't allow it. In some ways Paige is a black box, Val has proven the coexistence she has, by preforming miracles without losing (much) control. Paige on the other hand never really utilises The Wound Tree's power directly, acting as a messiah and letting others call upon its power. This would put her in the same camp as Faulkner, where they're more "divine emissaries" rather than demigods.

However the difference I think is their internal worlds. For Paige, The Wound Tree is HER. It's her baby, a part of herself, her deepest wants, it hunts for HER and wants to give her everything she wants if only she would let it. The Trawlerman is an external force for Faulker, an important one, but he's his conduit, not a host. This might seem like semantics but in Paige we see a coexistence, not a healthy or balanced one, but The Wound Tree is in her unlike any other God we've seen.

Also like The Last Word, I think the small size of Paige's cult was why she was able be the incarnate of The Wound Tree. I think among other reasons she decided to abandon the cult was that, as it grew, she could feel her demigod status changing, and she'd either become a saint or a messiah.

In this way I'd say that Demigods in the TSV universe are humans fused with all or a large portion of a divinity. Not saints as they retain their higher cognitive thinking and relative autonomy, and not messiahs, as the divine is an internal part of them, not an external source to which they are a special person too. A coexistence is needed but as with both examples above, it'll always be on a knifes edge and will eventually crumble. Lastly an alignment of goals, down to the minutiae, is needed and works best if the deity was made for the demigod or vice versa.

Other possible demigods are -

Side Wright - who I was originally gonna have as one of my 2 but thinking on it, paige is much closer to the balance than he is. However he does seem different from other saints we've seen, like Babble, as he seems bitter (haha) wnough to recognise he was sacrificed for no great reason.

Mercer and Gage - I think they where gunning for demigod status but would've likely been sainted. However Mercer at least was perfectly aligned with The Beast That Stalks Through The Long Grass, it's just that for them to remain perfectly aligned she would've had become more animalistic and eventually would just be a saint.

Carpenter - personal crackpot theory, I think by the beginning of the show Carpenter isn't tied to The Trawlerman at all. Her use of language, her philosophy, and the results she gets when she invokes it. I think Carpenter made a new river god "My River". And I think that is who she's the demigod of ... possibly. "My River" as a separate deity to The Trawlerman is a whole other post that's too long for here.

Anyways I know the TSV is antithetical to categorising the divine and their effects, and the whole show is about trying to read human concepts into what are essentially reality parasites, but this was kicking around my brain for too long and the voices must be expunged. I hope you enjoyed.

RE: The 200th Episode + S7

So a while back I made this post, which analyzed an interview with Martin Kratt around Season 7, which at the time, had just premiered on PBS Kids. In that interview, Martin said that Season 7 will air Episode 200 of Wild Kratts. Pretty exciting shit, right?

Turns out that may be outdated.... like, VERY outdated.

An article by current.org that I found a while ago described Season 7 having 20 episodes, with there being 16 left following the season's four-episode premiere.

"Some shows in the 20-episode season are devoted to animal classification. Others focus on the different roles of animals in the wild, such as predators versus prey. One looks at the boundary-breaking mudskipper, a fish that actually spends much of its time on land. " With 16 more episodes left to air in Wild Kratts’ seventh season — including the series’ 200th — there are plenty more creature adventures to come. New episodes will premiere on PBS Kids through 2025, according to DeWitt, who adds, “We do not have an update on season 8 at this time.” 

Now yes, that article does mention that the series 200th will air in Season 7, but there is no mathematical way for a 20 episode season to add up to 200.

Because as of this week, there have been 16 episodes of Season 7 released: Bringing the show to 174 episodes. Episode 20 of the season will bring the series to 178 episodes of the overall season. It would take 22 episodes afterwards to get to the 200th episode.

I'm not entirely sure what exactly is the case here, whether Martin was incorrect, making assumptions, or there was some change in the amount of episodes ordered for the season, but it does not look like we'll be getting the 200th episode this season.

This leads to my next point: We are actually way closer to the end of Season 7 than we think.

One-hour specials in the show are classified as two episodes, since they're double the length of regular episodes, and thus double the production thereof.

Season 4 was commissioned 26 episodes, with Animals Who Live To Be 100 Years Old as the 100th of the series - for those numbers to add up, A Creature Christmas and Creatures of the Deep Sea would need to be two episodes each (otherwise S4 would have only 24 eps and AWLTB100YO would be episode 98). Similarly, Season 5 had a 20 episode order that would bring the overall number count to 138: Meaning the season premiere "Alaska: Hero's Journey" and the Halloween special "Creepy Creatures" would have to be counted as two episodes each (4 episodes, plus the 16 regular length episodes).

If we apply this to the other one-hour specials (including Our Blue and Green World and Activate Kid Power) then that means that we are currently 16 episodes into Season 7 as of this week. And if the current.org article is correct, then that means that only 4 episodes remain.

And seeing as how 4 new episodes often air in one batch, (whether it's a double-length episode and 3 regulars, or 4 individual episodes airing daily), and with how a modern WK season takes 2 years to finish (added with the article saying the season will premiere through 2025) this indicates that the next batch of episodes following this week will be the last of the season, and that one of these episodes will be the Season 7 finale.

Yup, Season 7 is most likely ending this year.

Now I could, on some level, be wrong, (and frankly I hope I am because it's kinda shitty that all of that hype around Ep. 200 could've possibly been for nothing). But so far, so many signs point to Season 7 having 20 episodes and not a minimum of 40 as we initially thought. I've seen bootlegs of Wild Kratts live where the new episodes are announced and the number of episodes they announce in future is not the amount that would give the season enough episodes to break the 200 milestone. Hopefully more information will come out (likely in an interview with the Kratts as a tie-in to the next batch of episodes) but all signs point to the end of Season 7 being upon us:
