JUST SAW YOUR TSP PLAYLISTS COULD YOU GO THROUGH SOME OF THE SONGS AND EXPLAINED WHY YOU ADDED THEM 🤭🤭🤭

of course!!!!!! this is a bit of a Pandora's box of an answer, so I'm going to keep it going below the cut so that it doesn't drag on and on on the dash

Embarrassingly, I didn't think people would actually look at the playlist. So it's really a jumble of songs that I can mindlessly listen to while I write and battle caffeine addiction. I'm considering re-vamping it to be more vibes-based, but that'll take a bit of work. So as of right now, a lot of the songs on the RC playlist are there purely for their sound rather than the lyrics. It's hard to get in the mood of this fic while listening to my usual tunes ( some would debate me on that, but try writing while Van Halen is blasting in your ears vs. while you're on the road ). However, there are some that have been added for more symbolic/plot-based reasons. *OBVIOUSLY, THERE ARE SPOILERS UP TO 22 UNDER HERE SO DON'T READ ON IF YOU DONT WANT TO SEE THOSE* Here are some of the stand-outs:

Lust for Life, by Lana del Rey ft. the Weeknd for these lyrics specifically: - Cause we're the masters of our own fate - Keepin' me hot / Like July forever - They say only the good die young / that just ain't right The instrumental version of this song is on my YouTube writing playlist ( because I can't find it on Spotify). It's just gorgeous. I put it at the beginning of the playlist because to me, it represents the end of the fic.

Remember Why You Fell in Love by Natalie Madigan - introduced to me by a friend. I fell in love with it because of this lyric: We were adding up sins in the city of angels

Western Nights by Ethel Cain - Trouble's always gonna find you baby / but so will I - To me, a very TSP Dazai song. Trouble's not finding him, though. He's attracted to it, and despite how hard he tries or what opportunity he's given he always comes back to what hurts him. - Also, a song about heading West, which Dazai tries to avoid by globe-trotting in 22 but he ends up in the same place anyway.

Havana by Camila Cabello - STARTED OUT AS A JOKE. However, while I was watching the music video while on call with a friend I realized, well yeah this could be something. - Lyrically, it has little to do with the story, however the feeling of wanting to go back to a place you've never been to, or to a time you've never been to, resonated with me

Serial Killer by Lana del Rey ( unreleased ) - do I even have to explain this one

The Greatest by Lana del Rey - to me, another epilogue-esque song. - We didn't know that we had it all / Nobody warns you before the fall

Summertime Sadness - basically nothing good happens in summer. to any of the characters. - Dazai's birthday, him losing Oda and Ango in the first interlude chapter happens the summer of '56 - RC murder happens July 17th, 1958 - The case gets reopened in SUMMER. But lyrics-wise: 'Kiss me hard before you go' was on my mind from the very moment I started writing this fic.

The RC playlist is not refined at all. It really is just a dump ( like Dazai's shipping container conditions, really ), however the TSP SSKK playlist DB is definitely more in-line with what I want to deliver story/reading-experience wise. Obviously, some songs are there just because they're from the right decade, but many aren't.

Popular, by The Weeknd ft. Playboi Carti and Madonna - I apologize for just how much of the weeknd there is in both of these playlists, but: - I've seen the devil down sunset - Give her a little taste, runnin' back to me / Put it in her veins, pray her soul to keep <- i haven't exactly been subtle about the use of addiction as a metaphor in this fic. Hell, Florida!!! by taylor swift is in the RC playlist ( and specifically, a TSP!Atsushi song ) because it describes escapism. This song goes in the TSP!SSKK playlist because it introduces L.A. from a surface-level point of view, and what their biases of Chuuya are before starting to investigate the case seriously

Moon by the Cab is . . . self-indulgent. that's all I'll say about that.

Cheri Cheri Lady by Modern Talking - 'to know you is to love you' - ALSO a very trippy soundscape. I had it, and quite a bit of Donna Summers on while writing the Tycheron mind-meld scene.

Disturbia ( originally by Rhianna ) covered by the Cab in Punk goes Pop. - you're in the city of wonder - Better think twice, your train of thought will be altered / So if you must falter, be wise Just, a classic song for Atsushi and The AR's relationship in this fic.

Roman Holiday by Halsey, which is kind of a reference to one of my favorite movies ( Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn ), is just such a good coming-of-age song.

Every Breaking Wave by U2 - Baby every dog on the street / Knows that we're in love with defeat.

All that to say, I think I'm going to have to do some serious reconstruction on both playlists in order to feel satisfied with them. the RC playlist is kind of out of my hands now ( as evidenced by my influx of Spotify followers . . . hello everyone ), but I think I can get away with organizing it and stuff with little effort.

Chapter 56: Warriors of Earth Assemble

Even the title is stunning. I mean... the gang is back! The original Dragon Ball isn't dead. But now look at him... In truth, he never stopped getting excited about fighting. Here he's the only one who seems purely motivated. A little reckless, but still cute. That's our good ol' Yamcha.

...how dare you, fools?! I mean, he's one of the very first Earth Heroes! No kidding!

Let him prove it.

Agent Yamcha? Well... It sounds really good. Finally someone who respects his role in this story! I mean... He was Lord Yamcha, the fearsome bandit of the Diablo Desert, one of the best students of Master Roshi, then King Kai, a memorable fighter of the Tenkaichi Tournaments, a loyal friend, a human who has crossed his own nature! I guess "agent Yamcha" is just the minimum... But we make do!

Well well well... Welcome back, Yamcha! You really seem to have remembered who you really are and you can be! You're let it get you down too many times for no reason and this has been your greatest weakness. The only one.

Take your revenge!

This is really touching. He never denied his most famous technique... The one and only Rōgafūfūken! Just look at his fingers put like a wolf fang. I can hear his unmistakable howl!

After all, generally he never denied himself. And his long hair too. I'm so glad they've come back. This is a really important point about his personality. Bulma tried to fix him in many things... Sometimes she has helped him, but other times she has only damaged him. I think Yamcha is slowly retracing his steps to create a better version of himself. Not just a parody.

Oh please... It had been a long time since I had seen him so proud of himself. Look at that cocky pose! Damn, how cute...

Got a real taste. He just realized he can still help and now no one can stop him. Well, sort of. The rest of the chapter doesn't show anything relevant about him. Except for a small part.

We can see Yamcha, but also Tenshinhan, Kurillin and even Chiaotzu, helping Goku with their energy. Like the old days. It's amazing they included them.

Okay, this one hurts a little. It's comforting that Toriyama didn't forget this detail... Yamcha's only wish has always been to get married. Since 1985, when he first appeared. Considering that this line dates back to 2020... It's been a long time, hasn't it? Back then he was a shy 16-year-old boy with many expextations for his future... Now he's a man, he lost so much, but his need for love never changed. So... Does he really have to ask Shenron as he wanted to do so many years ago?! Or worse, wait 1200 years...

Come on, Akira! He doesn't need the dragon balls!

Give him his real chance.

Guys... I would say that all of this is an incredible goal for Yamcha's fans.

He still exists.

He can still make a difference, even a tiny one.

He still can!

Future DB Liveblog Plans

I just finished watching Team Four Star's latest video covering the final arc of the Super Dragon Ball Heroes anime. That's the one where they switched to machinima and the good guys fought Majin Ozotto. There's an editors note at the end that announces TFS will resume their commentary series with the three live action movies, which ought to be fun.

This got me thinking about my own 2023 DB Apocrypha Liveblog (which you can check out here and here). My original goal with that was to try to cover a lot of loose ends that I purposely avoided in 2019 when I liveblogged Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. There was enough "apocrypha" that it kind of needed its own year to cover, and I thought 2023 would be a good time to do it, since I could close out with the Super Hero movie.

The problem was that the franchise just kept on going,and there were a few things left that I couldn't get access to. And now Daima has started up, and I wouldn't be surprised if some other project gets under way by the end of Daima's run.

So it's probably worth keeping a list of things so I can keep track.

I assume the SDBH web series and manga are finished, since I heard the game itself is winding down. Still, I can't rule out that they make some more content for it.

I already covered Plan to Eradicate Saiyans as it originally appeared in 1993, and the 2010 remake that was released with Raging Blast 2, but there was a third version that came out in 1994. I found it on YouTube once, but there were no subtitles, so I couldn't do much with it.

The GT Stage Play was recorded by someone, and it's still floating around out there, but I couldn't find a version with subtitles.

As for all this manga, it's probably more accessible than I realized. I just never got comfortable using these scanlation websites.

Notes:

Traditional wines and snacks followed. It was be a fine evening. Miss Linda had the picnic table area sprayed for flying critters like Mosquito's and Ticks and No-See-Ums but not birds.

At least 25 people were present for the tasting. There were plenty of snacks and about 8 // 2 Reds versus white wines were enjoyed. You tied for the late attendance this evening, with over 20 people tarrying late.

Coach had the first of a series of 3 Chemo-Cocktails Wednesday, soon to be accompanied by Radiation Therapy. Everything went super easy, but side effects may pop-up. I will attend events at the Barn but reserve the right to head to the house any time I want. When some of the guys cough up oysters and snot-rockets and shoot them into the pine-straw, I may develop intractable nausea and diarrhea owing to the fact that I will be somewhat queasy.

This is one of those crazy posts that really has no merit other than like, looking at math.

Keep in mind that this is all for fun. The length of the episodes is only known by the creators and while looking a trends is cool, they're just trends on past media. The creators could do something completely different. After all, who could have expected Season 4 to be so much longer compared to Season 3? My numbers are probably really wrong throughout this, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Trends

The longest episode is always the last episode (obviously). The shortest episode is usually either 3 or 7. Trends also show that it is a middle episode (3 or 4) in the season in three seasons (2, 3, and 4). 

The penultimate episode of a season is significantly shorter than the finale. Ignoring Season 4, which is an outlier, the difference between the last and second to last episode is 13 minutes shorter on average. This will not mean much for S5 as Ep8 is going to be 2.5 hours long. So, take this with a grain of salt.

Shawn Levy is usually under the average of a season, by a few minutes. The Duffer brothers are usually at the average for a season. This means that episode 1 and 2 are going to about the average for the season.

If we look at the guests compared to the average of THEIR season (not the general averages), NA was under, UB was on average, RT was under, and AS was over. 

Considerations for the Prediction

Creator Sentiment on Episode Lengths

What they have said on the record.

That the last episode will be the length of a movie. This means 2-2.5 hours because Season 4 already got into 90 min and that’s average movie length and they weren’t really considered a movie.

Shortest episode will be 40 minutes (return to season 1) or rather that they’d want a 40/45 episode. I am only going into this with ONE 40-45 minute episodes. 

Most episodes will be over an hour.

Season Average Run Time

If we look at all the averages, that continue to increase, there is reason to suspect Season 5 will be the same. Instead of looking at the episodes and thinking that they are going to be like S1/S2 I am advancing S5 the same way 2 got longer than S1.

This means an increase of pretty much 2 min for the average run time. Excluding Ep8 the season average for S5 should be about 82-83 minutes per episode.

And you may be like. But that’s so long and they’ve (the creators) said it will be shorter. It won’t happen. I personally think it’s reasonable to say that while they want shorter episodes, with the amount of KNOWN footage alone (over 650 hours), that shorter episodes on the whole will not happen (plus they said it's supposed to be like 8 blockbuster movies).

AND There is too much riding on this. If they shorten it too much then people will feel like they were cheated. 

And hey, maybe I’m wrong and there will be more 50 minute episodes. I doubt it. But there could be!

I, again, doubt it. 

Directors

We only have five episodes confirmed (via wikipedia and IMDb) for directors. We are missing directors for Episode 4 and 7. Now, what’s interesting about this is that Frank Darabont taking The Turnbow Trap, which based on the pattern, should be Shawn Levy’s episode. Shawn has directed ever 3/4 pair since season 1, except for this one. According to a podcast, Shawn Levy is only doing one episode. According to IMDb that is 6.

Second, based on what has been released, The Duffer Brothers are doing 1, 2, and 8 which also breaks form. They always do 1,2, and then last two episodes (either 7 and 8 or 8 and 9). They’re only scheduled for 8, which seems like a weird thing to hide if they are not doing 7 and 8. 

Seasons 2, which the season that season 5 is mirroring a lot, had 2 guest directors. SO with that in mind. I have two options. Either the Duffers SHOULD get 7, and it was a typo, last guest gets 4. OR the guest gets 4 and 7.  I’m going with this second option. 

Now there is a chance that we'll be surprised and Shawn Levy gets 4 and we're all shocked and he found the time. I doubt it, but I thought I'd mention it.

Trends and Other

We will be following the graph for the average trend, rather than trying to emulate the seasons exactly. That looks like this: 

Lastly, I'd be remiss not to bring up the final point. That they have said that there is a 40 minute episode AND that they've said that it's like 8 blockbuster movies. I am taking the "blockbuster movies" to mean the cinematography and CGI rather than episode length. A movie, on average is usually 90 minutes or more. I really doubt all of the episodes are going to be more than 90 minutes.

But it's always important to note that I could be wrong, and they are around 90 minutes on average, and we have the one 45 and the 2.5hr monster at the end. Who knows? Not me.

With ALL of that in mind, these numbers are based on AVERAGES and numbers.

Last Comments

Honestly, that 45 min episode really messes with the line graph, but I’m holding them true to their word that we get one 45 minute episode. I will say that I think it would be rather crazy to have a 45 min episode as the last episode for the Vol.1 but that is also something that I 100% think they’d do. It's a good cliffhanger and about half way through the season that makes you ask, what will come next.

There is a chance that Ep 7 is 110 and Ep6 is 105 min. I wanted to follow the six up, seven down, eight up trend that S1, S3, and S4 follow.

What would be crazy is if Episode 7 is the 45 minute episode. (In this instance I'd say move all times up by an episode so ep4 is 78, ep5 is 110, ep6 is 105, and ep7 is 45). I doubt they'd do that, because a 45 minute episode as the penultimate episode would feel super weird (and not in the sorta fun way it being ep4 feels).

Most of these numbers are absolutely arbitrary for what got me close to the average I was aiming for. I completely made them up, so really there is no rhyme or reason.

You really shouldn't put too much stock in this. I was lowkey just having fun.

really unproductive day, but hold on tight to your pants. it gets worse tomorrow. i did some exercises, that will be the first task on the exam, it went mostly quite good, actually, but i do want to do more of those and i still have some gaps in this area. other than that - not much else. did some notes at the end and that was it. what hapenned?

that day I think i also had the first since months time, when i couldn't fall asleep immediately, because i started to have panic attack/mental breakdown. it used to be almost daily few months ago, but kind of stopped eventually, and on that day it happened again. i had visuals of my old home and the home of my godmother, where i sometimes would stay for weeks, and started crying uncontrollably. anyways :D the day was over.

i watched the video about dinosaurs and it made me want to draw some dinosaurs. so, here's that, lol. watch the video, by the way, if the topic sounds interesting to you, the guy is really funny.

~It got worse~

I slept the whole days, fellas. I managed (mostly because of my incredibly helpful boyfriend trying to support me :')) to wake up at about 11, stayed awake for maybe half an hour to an hour, and then just fell asleep. and slept the whole day, basically. i think i ended waking up at about 7 pm, did some miscellaneous things, had a long ass mental breakdown, crying more than my pride could take, and then went to bed.

But you know what? I feel quite hopeful for today. I woke up fully at about 9:30, had my coffee and cigarette (kids do NOT smoke), cleaned up my studying space, which took a lot MORE than i expected, but now I'm ready to study. i am quite sleepy, but I have to just get myself together and do it. you know, maybe all those failures are okay, because at least i keep trying. eventually one of those tries does succeed in one way or another.

10:50 - 12:42 pages 20-56 in DB5 13:15 - 15:36 finished SE4, 56-82 DB5 then i cooked some food, took a shower and rested for a bit 17:30 - 18:20 FINALLY done with DB5

18:50 - 20:00 finished SE5

I cannot express how happy I am to be finally done with this DB 5 lecture. i also calculated the overall amount of slides i should go over, it came up to 374 of them, which comes to about 30 slides a day if i want to finish everything like one day before the exam lol. anyway. tummy hurty but we must persist
