I don't give a fuuuuuuu...... who you are or what you have to say
Deckled edges/rough edges on a book are the best thing in the world. They're so tactile and sensory. I love the feel of them.

what i don't get about sprayed edges is like. (at least for me) when you store them on the shelf you don't see them. cause the spine is facing out. then when you're reading you're not noticing the sprayed edges and the image is all warped CAUSE YOURE READING AND THE BOOK IS OPEN
idk like no hate to those who like sprayed edges but i feel it's just another marketing ploy and a push to have books as 'collectibles' and not physical tomes of stories you love that get worn over time
see i love collecting books and i love having special editions of my favorite ones as well. but when it’s EVERY new book now….yeah it’s absolutely a marketing ploy
also my other thing with them is that when you annotate your books (and atp i annotate almost every single book i read) it ruins the look of the sprayed edge. like all the tabs sticking out interrupt the design so it looks even worse?? idk i’m just not into it

So i realized that ive really fucked up with my prints
Ive been printing small batches of them and selling them, then printing more
When i was in college, we were required to turn in an edition of 6, numbered 1-6, all printed in one run. And i didnt really think much of it, i sorta just kept doing that. Printed a run of 6, numbered them 1-6 and brought them to a con
And now im realizing i gave people the impression that they were getting one of only 6 of these prints to be made, that they are limited edition, etc. And some are, i had some reductive block prints that cant be printed again, or some on different papers. But most i intended to continue printing and i feel like shit about it
Im going to stop editioning my prints and just leaving them as open editions now. I havent ever had anyone at cons ask about the editions or mention them at all, but im sure some people were under the impression that they were limited when they bought them
Kinda not sure what to do about it now. I might post about it on bluesky and tell people they can get in touch with me if they feel it was unfair and i can work something out with them.. but its also not like i was charging extra and tricking people, i dont intend on changing my prices or anything after making them open edition...
#people on bsky have been getting my prints in Nice custom frames and shit#and someone posted one today where they had a close up shot of the edition number [showing the deckled edge of the paper but still]#and i just worry i cheated these people. i feel really bad about it#i just didnt think about it and we werent taught editioning in depth. sorta just told how to do it#which it seems like thats something k shouldve been taught as a print major!!

the fic i'm working on binding now is the biggest one i've done to date, and it's going suspiciously well??
#noahbinds#like there were a couple hiccups#like one set of pages didn't print front and back so there's a couple blank sheets that i didn't notice until i was sewing them together#but i decided i can live with that#and it's too big to go in my guillotine#so i think the edges are just going to be deckled#but i found the perfect end papers for the vibes#and they're glued in and just waiting for the head and endbangs and mole on the spine#i'm really excited to have this one finished. all 754 pages of it

The Art Of Deckled Edge Paper: Adding Elegance To Every Page
Deckled edge paper is more than just a design element; it celebrates craftsmanship, history, and elegance. Whether used for wedding invitations, fine art prints, or business stationery, this paper brings a timeless beauty that flat-edged paper cannot replicate. By choosing cotton paper with a deckled edge, you are investing in not only the aesthetic appeal of the paper but also its durability and luxurious feel.
The next time you're working on a project, consider adding a touch of sophistication with deckled edge paper. Whether you're creating something personal or professional, this paper will undoubtedly add a unique, elegant touch that will leave a lasting impression on all who experience it.

yesterday's library haul:
pasta, the spirit and craft of Italy's greatest food, with recipes
mondrian: his life, his art, his quest for the absolute
an interesting note about the mondrian book, it has a "deckle edge", the term for very slightly uneven page sizes in the style of ones from the 18th century. (the book was published in 2024.)
#library#haul#i like the deckle edge#it feels soft in the hands#a welcome trait for any hardcover book you are meant to hold#(rather than a textbook meant to be put on a table)
