i wish more than anything that kny wasn’t rushed. i’ve heard the rumor that the creator was dealing with family issues during production, but honestly, i think the story should’ve been postponed during that time. there’s such a clear difference in pacing—from the beginning, where we went through several arcs before even encountering a lower moon, to the end, where it’s just back-to-back arcs with each having an introduction to atleast one upper moon. i really wish we got to see the other characters’ storylines develop, instead of just reading about them in the fan books. it’s one of the few anime i genuinely wish had filler. it would’ve made the ending hit so much harder, especially since some of the deaths were clearly foreshadowed early on.

i’m not an amazingly talented author myself, and i definitely couldn’t create something as symbolic or metaphorical as demon slayer—but if it were up to me, i would’ve added a filler arc or two after each major combat storyline. like, maybe an arc focusing on the other kamaboko squad. like… hello? kanao? why did she only get a bit of storyline at the very end?? it felt like she was just thrown in last-minute so the author could remind the fanbase she existed. and we definitely should’ve seen more chemistry between her and tanjiro.

and i’m sorry to say this, but up until around the end of the swordsmith arc, the way they handled genya’s character felt really lazy. there was no proper explanation for his unique demon-related abilities when he eats, why he wasn’t able to develop a breathing technique, or how he suddenly grew over fifteen centimetres in just about two years. the idea that it’s due to puberty (even though he’s the only one who ended up that lanky) or because he eats demons is just fan theory—However, it is the one that makes the most sense.

i firmly believe that every member of the kamaboko squad should’ve had their own arc; especially since they were meant to be the main focus. they really needed more development.

I feel fandom would get along a lot better if there was mutual understanding that liking a character, agreeing with a character, and thinking the character is well constructed/executed are all separate (if often overlapping) positions, each with their separate tastes and subjectivities. Also: character portrayals are intended to make the audience feel things; this is separate from (if often overlapping with) analyzing/appreciating their actions and role in the story.
