IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ!

{ There is a hacker/scammer going around on Discord claiming that they've "accidentally reported" people (in this case, me) for Illegal Purchases/Phishing Links which very obviously isn't true because everyone who knows me personally knows I don't have any money to do shit like that nor do I have the skill to set up phishing sites.

The main reason I know this is a hacker/scammer is because I had another incident like this over on Steam and the message/"staff ticket" is literally word for word the exact same as the one I got on Steam a long while ago. The person quite literally copy pasted this shit it seems.

So please beware of this person or others like this person going around and claimed they've reported you. Instead of panicking and doing what this person says, immediately go to the OFFICIAL Discord site and submit a support ticket like I always do with any platform I'm on. I usually make it a general question since I'm never sure what category it would fall into, but directly ask the staff if you have been reported for the things said person may claim you've been reported for and make sure to add screenshot of the entire thing for proof. Don't panic and instantly remove them. Just block them and view the messages.

…so yeah, I got hacked on discord. Be careful gamers. Let this be a PSA that scammers have evolved, cuz the hacked account of a game dev friend was using some sort of chat bot, where we talked a bit and only sent the link after I offered to playtest a game they’ve been working on - the link was to a blogspot website for the game.

These were messages I sent to a friend who I knew was working on a game with said person, I was too stupid to wait for a response lol

Friend of mine lost his account to this, too. The game is (was) called MARITAS when it was being baited around our contacts. Remember to be vigilant and double-check links to downloads you're sent. This one seems to use blogspot as a host, but there are plenty of ways to dupe valid game site urls. Be wary and stay safe!

PSA, there's a really nasty Discord scam going around rn. If one of your friends DMs you, starting off with a simple "hello" "how are you", may even joke around a little, and then starts asking you to look at a game/project they're working on, don't click the link, don't download anything. If you can reach that friend through non-Discord means, reach out and let them know they got hacked.

One of my friends said the link takes them to a very convincing video game page that has in-game screenshots and stuff, and then gives you an option to download a playtest zip file or something. That download exploits a weakness Discord apparently has for password protected zip files and steals your Discord log-in and changes your account info to the scammer's account info. Two of my friends lost their accounts. Be careful.

Update: We ended up getting confirmation that this person did steal three accounts and that we got one back.

I just want to emphasize the fact that making multiple reports will eventually get them discords attention, and perhaps keep them from continuing these actions - and bring attention to the fact that discord accounts are extremely centered in online lives. It can connect to console and PC accounts, social medias, and emails. And if they have *your* email, it can be very dangerous as it is so connected to many things *required* to live. Please, get this person off discord, make the reports and help tickets. Idk if I'll get an email from discord about any of this, but I will keep updating this when necessary. Stay safe out there, yall.

Hacker Defense Strategy

….So I did a thing.

First I should start at the beginning. My friend’s discord account was hacked today and the hacker messaged me. It was actually pretty convincing as at first I didn’t realize what was going I and was genuinely worried for them.

And by the time I received their message, it had already been 8 hours, so while waiting for a response I went over to a DPXDC discord server I shared with them. (Not the DPXDC discord server but a server, although I think we might be apart of that one too.) And the very first thing I saw was this.

*peeks over at the message again. Looking at the sender*

Huh

What a coincidence.

So naturally I ask the DPXDC server, tell them about the message, and check to see if this was the hacker or if perhaps I had gotten a message from my friend before they were hacked.

I check the DM with Eros again and I see this.

A link.

…..

I’m starting to think that this may not be my friend.

So what do I do? Report it? Ignore it? Ask for help? All of the above?

No, no I do not.

Now, you are going to need some context. You remember that shared discord server I was a part of? Well, when one greets a new person in a server we have the option to ‘wave’ and say hello to them as a sticker of a character appears. Sometimes it’s a peach, sometimes a dog, or a robot, or a bird. Well this one person in the server became obsessed with the peach. So much so that whenever someone got the peach sticker they would SCREAM peach and just start chanting it in the chat. And then naturally other people started doing so as well because no one in this server is normal (and I love it so much). There may have been a cult. And a channel dedicated to the peach cult. Not important. But basically! The peach became such an important part of this server and then we discovered that you can acess the wave stickers at will. And they ✨vibrate✨ So naturally we bombard any newcomer to the server with peaches. So I think this is a perfectly natural response to the hacker.

But do I stop at one?

Psshhh. Of course not.

Keep in mind that as this is going on, I am giving live updates to said discord server on how the conversation is going.

It went something like this.

Hacker: listen to me! Me: peach peach peach peach peach peach Hacker: this is very important! Me: peach peach peach peach peach peach Hacker: you are in danger! You must call this ID. Me: peach peach peach peach peach Hacker: ok, don’t forget to call them.

And after many peaches I think they just kinda gave up.

But do I stop there?!

No. No I do not.

I go back to the DPXDC server and start typing.

That’s right.

I got the entire discord server to DM this person and spam the peach. All 233 of us (or at least of who was online at the time).

It was glorious.

But DID I STOP THERE!?

Hah! No.

ROUND TWO!

I might have been having too much fun with this.

In the end, the real Eros managed to get a new account and I’m pretty sure the hacker got blocked (or they blocked us, not sure which) and currently Eros 2.0 is trying to rebuilt and save as much data as possible. They also found our response to the hacker hilarious.

Remember! Internet safety everybody! Don’t click on mysterious links and if someone says you might get banned, do research first before anything. A single report (even on accident) won’t ban you or trolls would have taken advantage of that a long time ago. And no personal information! Not even between friends! The reason Eros still has most of their personal info intact was mostly because they didn’t want anyone (even someone friendly) to have access to their writing prompts and stories. So they were very lucky.

Okay Phew, discord disabled my account thanks to everyone that reported my account they were able to froze my account for a bit and the hacker can't access to my account anymore, currently I'm going to file a request if can still retrive my account for it, dang they got me real good for some reason, ugh...lesson learned!

so to add yet another hack to look out for on the seemingly endless list of discord hacks - probably best to avoid anyone offering you steam gift cards. also should go without saying (and in this case didn't actually seem to happen to the hacked account which makes this even scarier) but always approach any links sent to you with the utmost caution. fuck discord hackers.

Hey guys. If you receive a DM from your friend on Discord that says they accidentally reported your account, then DO NOT RESPOND.

If this happens, then that account got hacked! They will redirect you to someone impersonating an employee and trick you into changing the email for the account!

Trust me, my account recently fell victim to this and I had to submit a ticket to Discord's support team to get my account back. They tried to make me pay money to "verify" my account. The hacker apparently tried to DM my friends and get them to fall for the scam, too!
