The DL; DR version is that Delphi's a Divine soul Warlock Hexblade. Her patron, Anton, is a very powerful vampire lord. He has a curse on him placed by another powerful vampire lord that they're trying to break. She usually wears armor but they're currently in the courtyard. They're also lovers.

Gather round, children, for the legend of Grimwood Abbey

(that’s the tiny pre-MCC I mentioned the other day. I only came up with this concept, oh, over a year ago. Dropped it to play a nice easy modern Megahood. I don’t have much wherewithal.)

...so I have spent two days on the weekend so far just working on getting my CC sorted out so I can consider starting this. Yesterday the big issues were a. realizing it was super inefficient to delete stuff in-game one by one even though it’s nice to be able to see it, and becoming paralyzed with indecision about whether to take the time to hunt down unidentified files by hand, or continue spending time deleting dozens and dozens of recoiled by hand… eventually I did a little of both, but boy I gotta use some kind of tooltip renamed now huh… b. I am not good at Delphy’s Download Organizer. I don’t understand it. Why is there no “how to use” documentation. So then I set it to scan for orphans or duplicates, stare hopelessly at the results unable to figure out what is the best course of action, and then quietly quit it to yet again… move files around manually. Don’t get me wrong, I was able to use it to shove several file types into correct folders, but my real issue would be so easily solved if there was a thoroughly explained duplicate scanner that I was able to trust. Ugh, I probably should have started by moving all the files to one big folder and sorting them from there but WHATEVER.

Because, you see, like many simmers, I have been collecting my cc since roughly 2004. I legit cannot remember if I have lost the whole thing and had to start over, but this collection can certainly be traced back to my first laptop that could run the Sims 2. For the longest time, I merely collected a big pile of everything shiny and cool that caught my eye, resulting in a big mixed-up mess combining modern and medieval fantasy and sci-fi and random fandoms and steampunk and everything I ever enjoyed. That… was not sustainable. I tried keeping individual folders within Downloads for specific genres, with the idea that I could swap them in and out for different hoods. Alas, that was too time-consuming for my taste, and I ended up with the same basic downloads folder but very lightly sort of organized but not really.

Sometime within the last ten years, I started trying to cultivate different downloads folders of broad genre categories, all neatly saved on a big flash drive. That’s all well and good, but copying and backing up that shit took away precious hours I could be using to play. Not only that, but it was very rough trying to separate my downloads folder properly—some stuff worked well for multiple genres! So I ended up making copies of the whole downloads folder to build these alternates, which I could then whittle down to only the stuff I actually wanted in there. This medieval alternate downloads folder therefore also contained the folder I’d labeled Medieval CC in my last attempt at organizing, and just to be sure I copied everything over and back repeatedly. And you know how it goes—every time I got excited about the idea of an MCC, I had to go out and download anything new or shiny. And oh yeah, had to stock up on defaults because now I could be using a solely medieval downloads folder! And this new CC would get plonked right into the DL folder, nary a care for organization because I needed to play before I lost interest!

So I had at least two, possibly three copies of all the same content in a collection of medieval CC that’s been building for, let’s call it 15 years more or less. I can’t trust the download organizer—like sir are you showing me all of them? do I throw all these out or leave one behind?—and doing it by hand is extremely tedious, carefully removing all txt and preview files to improve my load time. And actually playing a year-old story concept is delayed yet again.

I’ve got a Megahood set up that I can start converting to medieval whenever I get my act together, and I still that that sounds like fun but also waaaay too big a project for me (latest issue: wait if the capulets and montagues are traditionally alike in dignity is it wrong to make the Capps gentry and the montys merchants? But if I make them both gentry it’ll be an entire damn subhood of nothing but gentry!). I also have the same old MCC hood I started building a year ago, restarting after years of having the concept ready (this one is Algary and it is the one i was building a castle for; it has a few interesting rolled families to start with such as the gentry family having no sim older than teen and me choosing to set that up as the direct heir and some cousins, and a peasant family that involved two elderly ladies who were in love and joined households after their obligatory husbands died, pooling resources to care for their families, but one of them was gonna feel obliged to head off to the church and repent while the other cared for the kids and became a midwife). And then there’s the new guy, Grimwood Abbey, whose concept is only a year old but I sure hope I can follow through on it because it is quite small. Even then I can’t decide yet whether to start with one household (everybody living together for protection!), two households (the church vs the knights), or several households (each knight beginning in their own household with their squire). The latter would make it easier for each knight to earn their own money and compete to purchase gentry approval from the church… but idk.

Anyway. After all that I am really hoping I am about ready to actually play a bit. Even just making some sims and buildings. Today I need to progress further in weeding out CC, try to find a way I can do that more efficiently, maybe find some nice standardized set of makeup and default eyes and skin to use rather than the haphazard collections I barely touch (I prefer to lean toward maxis match over Shiny Realistic skins where everyone has auto makeup, but I’m sure there is something nice out there that suits my needs), and I unfortunately saw some nice medieval clothes I don’t have while downloading a whole fresh set of Sun&Moon Star Factory stuffs (which, I had multiple copies of! Didn’t know what was updated and what was outdated or what! So I threw out everything I had and re-downloaded the entire collection, which may have been a bit drastic but it definitely worked. Also, why is there no complete user guide for this. A “how to get started” or something. Whatever.), so I also gotta download that. Then maybe I can make a test sim to make sure defaults and stuff work okay, and then maybe download some medieval lots to speed up the building process? And then I can play one of my various hood concepts finally actually? Maybe?

TLDR: I am getting frustrated because I have so many downloads, many of them duplicates within folder within the main folder, that it’s taking me all weekend just to straighten them out (and even then I might not be able to finish, despite it being a 3 day weekend where I live). I swear, it would be faster just to throw it all away and start over, except I can’t do that because I am clearly a CC hoarder and I might need a piece of CC that can no longer be downloaded.

...thus goes the preliminary legend of Grimwood Abbey and the horror story of Getting It Set Up. Someday, someday...

We’re probably gonna get an official announcement for the new summer event in DL any day now [beyond what’s been datamined already], and I’ve got some hopes and predictions for it that I may as well write about before they inevitably get proven wrong, lol.

This will contain spoilers about the datamined stuff about the next event [not that it really amounts to much], so keep that in mind.

Basically what we know about the upcoming new summer event is that it’s going to be a wind-element raid event, that Summer Amane is going to be the welfare unit, and that the event seems like it’ll be based on horror movies about people going on summer vacation and getting killed off one by one. Also, the new raid boss is gonna be a reskin of Barbary.

Anyway, the premise of the event immediately makes me want summer alts for Curran and Heinwald even more. I mean, they were already the ones I most wanted to see, so I’m pretty biased, but it feels like they went out of their way to design a summer event where it’d make sense to feature them. If the event leans into the murder mystery elements it’s hinting at, it’d make a lot of sense to have it involve the characters who are literally detectives, lol.

It’s not like that really confirms anything, considering that we had a whole pirate-themed event that didn’t involve Karina at all, but it’s something.

The new summer alts for this batch should also be wind element, unless they throw in one or two off-element ones, so that’ll be interesting. I kinda expected it to be a fire event, but we’ve really been needing a new wind raid event for a long time, so this is nice.

I think Summer Amane is probably going to be a wind staff, but it’s hard to tell since going by her 3D model from the datamined event preview, she might have a unique weapon model, so it could basically be anything. But she just gives me healer vibes, probably because she looks like a Nekomancer type of character with her summer outfit, and those tend to be support units. And since wind already has like four different buffers, I’d probably want her to be a healer instead. We already have several wind healers, but they could at least do something like make her a Heinwald-style healer to make her stand out. Either way I just don’t want her to be a dagger unit since we already have Su Fang, and I don’t want her to be a wand unit since it’d be neat to pair her with DY-Xainfried without having to double up on weapon types.

For the banner units, going by what parts of the wind roster are more empty, I hope we get a 5-star dagger, a 5-star wand, and a 4-star axe. We really need a new wind dagger who’s actually good, and it’d be nice to get a new wind wand who’s not a buffer. Though I wouldn’t want a purely DPS-focused one since we already have Maribelle. I also kinda forgot until just now that Ranzal’s the only 4-star wind axe in the game, so we probably need another one, lol.

Aside from Curran and Heinwald being my main hopes for this banner, I think it’s pretty likely we’ll get Summer Elly, since she already has artwork from the first summer events. Though it’d be kinda awkward to see her get another wind alt when we already have W-Elly. But there’s also other options for more summer alts for story characters, like Sarisse and Mym. I think newer story characters like Alex and Laxi might still be off the table, though. And honestly I’d be surprised if they gave Mym an alt who wasn’t flame. They could throw her in as an off-element banner unit, but then she wouldn’t work well in the event and that’d suck.

Going along with those characters who I think might get alts, and the weapon types I’d like to see, I could imagine Curran being the 5-star wind dagger, Heinwald being the 5-star wind wand, and Elly being the 4-star wind axe. Realistically I’d be surprised if they relegated Elly to being a 4-star, but Elly fans should experience the salt that Ranzal and Luca fans had to endure for last year’s summer banners, lol. I’d say that they might not want to do another 4-star summer axe alt when we already have S-Luca, but they also decided to make S-Mikoto the same element, rarity, and weapon type as S-Cleo, so who knows what they’ll do. I could see Summer Elly also being something like a dagger or lance, though.

No matter who they pick, I’m kinda curious to see how all the new summer units work as units, since I feel like the wind units we have already cover all the bases they need to. So I want to see how they might stand out compared to existing units. I mentioned the idea of S-Amane being like a wind version of Heinwald, but there’s other stuff they could do with the other characters too.

If we get Summer Heinwald as a wind wand, it might be cool if he’s sorta like Zena, in terms of also being a hybrid DPS/healer. I wouldn’t want him to be exactly the same as her, but still. It’d at least be one way to also make him different to Maribelle, and I think that sort of unit would also be extremely helpful for stuff like eCiella.

For Curran, if he’s a wind dagger, maybe they could re-use S-Patia’s Anti-Poison mechanic. I’m kinda iffy on that whole mechanic, but one way or another we’re probably gonna get poison stuff going on with at least one of the new summer units since they’re wind, lol. There’s also enough sources of poison in wind that you might actually get some real mileage out of an Anti-Poison character, especially since I think Ciella only resets her status immunity when she changes form. Other than that, maybe they could give him debuffs or something, like Delphi or V-Melody.

If Summer Elly ends up being a 4-star unit I don’t think she’d have a whole lot going on in her kit to begin with, but I could see her being some kind of support unit. Though we already have W-Elly who has debuffs and heals, and wind has lots of regular strength buffers, so I dunno what else you could do with her. Even if she gets a 5-star alt instead I’m not sure what to expect from her.

Also we’re probably gonna get a new wind dragon on the banner, but I honestly have no idea what to expect from it since it feels like wind already has a dragon for every role I can think of. If they just make up an entirely new type of dragon then it could be anything, I guess, but if it’s along the same lines as one we’ve already gotten, it’d be cool to see a skill recharge dragon like GC for wind. There’s a whole lot of characters who’d really benefit from that.

If the new dragon is an alt of an existing one, and not just someone entirely new, it’d probably be an alt for someone like Cerberus or Freyja, but I really want a summer alt for Prometheus, lol.

But one way or another I’m prepared to be proven wrong about basically all of my theories here. I’m pretty confident about Summer Elly being a thing just because she’s a main story character, but other than that anything could happen. I’m still gonna be kinda sad if we don’t get Curran and Heinwald alts, though, since this event seems so perfect for them.

Oh, and we’re also probably gonna get Gala Laxi on the banner too. I haven’t really put much thought into her since she just doesn’t interest me much, lol. I know lots of people want her to be a water blade, and that could happen, but I think that like with most gala alts she’ll keep the same element and change weapon type, in which case I guess I’d want her to be a flame dagger since we barely have any flame daggers, and we haven’t had a gala dagger unit yet. I guess kit-wise she’ll probably have some sort of a stance/dragonshift type of thing going on based on Eden mode, but other than that I dunno what they’ll do with her.

Soooo, I spent yesterday learning how to use the Body Shop and Delphy’s Download Organizer and doing ten years overdue spring cleaning on my CC folder (I’ve had it forever and don’t think I’ve once bothered to put some order into it. Kind of a wonder my game still loaded, with those 12GB of bloat bogging it down.) After making actual categories (I used to just extract and dump all the packages into the main dl folder, so that thing was the stuff of nightmares for anyone with OCD) and slimming the thing down to 6GB, I loaded the game and realized that I had gotten too carried away with deleting, and accidentally purged a few important files. 

Like, you know, skins and eye sets. 

Because when I made my playables, I obviously rushed things and used the very same genetics that once I looked at them twice, made me go “fugly, delete!” In my defense, I usually rush through CAS because the game is prone to crashing unexpectedly and I don’t feel like losing thirty minutes of work.

So today was spent figuring out how to fix the damage and get something out of it. Since I’m replacing the genetics of half the cast, and since it took me all these years to discover that there are mods and tricks that can be used to make Body Shop a less horrific environment to do anything in, I decided to go all out and give everyone who needed it an upgrade in the looks department. 

(Because of course, the first thing I did once I had everything semi-tidied up was run around downloading all the clothes, hair and makeup within sight.) 

So far, I’ve redone Rita, Cory and Juniper. Buuuuttt, since they’ve already appeared in story, I couldn’t change them too drastically. 

Rita was the one that has less play room, since the next episode of her storyline follows directly from where we left her, and there’s no context appropriate reason why she would have a complete makeover when she’s supposed to be stressing about the world ending. So with her I adjusted the shadows on her features and tweaked her nose a bit, and gave her a jacket to cover up whatever the hell I was thinking when I decided to dress her up in this. (It’s not the outfit itself, the outfit is fine, it just doesn’t fit the setting or the character AT ALL. She’s a modern day girl undergoing an apocalypse, not a pilgrim in the Dark Ages. Same goes for Juniper’s steampunk getup. *groan*) 

Juniper has different eyes, a slightly different freckled skin (I had two of those, 50/50 chance that I’d delete the wrong one and lo!) and eyelashes. Still no teeth, though. Somehow all this resulted in her leaning more towards being more beautiful than cute, when it was meant to be the other way around, but I expect that she’ll pull enough weird and inappropriate facial expressions while I’m screen-capping that it will even out. She also has a different, still steampunk-ish but less overtly so, outfit, because we won’t see her for a while and I feel it’s reasonable to assume that she would have changed at some point.

Cory only showed up for two or three pictures in Ep.1, sooo I gave myself permission to do a ton more work on him (and will have to retake those pictures and replace them in the post whenever I can be arsed). Until I find flowing blond hair for men that I like, his is staying up in that bun. Face scar is gone along with that beard; eye color changed to a slightly different blue. Facial structure, redone nearly from the ground up, as this guy is supposed to look ruggedly handsome and all. I also gave him a larger nose. IDK, I have a thing about noses. 

The Madhavis are next. Nadeem is getting cloned for the second time this week, since his eyes vanished. *sad trombone noise*

(1) Hi Murfeelee! Sorry to bother you, but I'm having a bit of an issue with one of your older CC, specifically the Tsun Lioncloth from the Barbarian set. Whenever one of my sims changes into it, the game will gradually lag out and crash within about 5 minutes. I've done the 50/50 test, and eliminated all other possibilities. The error log gives the following: type: ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0x000003fcaddress: 0x005c75e7 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game

Hi! My apologies for all the trouble. Thanks so much for telling me – in all the 4 years the Tsun Loincloth’s been out this is the first time I’m hearing anything about if from anyone. I’m disturbed, cuz that’s part of one of my more popular sets.

The crashing could be for 3 reasons I can think of:

- clear your cache files (the CASPartCompositor.package & SimCompositorCache.package )

- the CC’s conflicting with something else (run it through Delphy’s Dashboard to see if any conflicts shows up)

- the CC might be too high poly, or just a glitchy piece of crap

But honestly, I’d uninstall & delete the Tsun Loincloth if it keeps crashing your game. Better to be safe than sorry.
