It's not something I feel I am as Known for as a fic writer, at least compared with how people think of me as someone who writes fluff, gross but touching h/c, terrible and/or middle aged men trying to be kind, etc., but something I feel I do well is committing to the bit.

I write a lot of stuff that is either a big swing in terms of it being an unconventional read on canon (my love of rarepairs most notably) or based around a gimmick (epistolary fic, script formats, extending fourth wall breaking in canon to characters realising they are in a fic, extremely specific AUs) and I always try to take what I am doing incredibly seriously, no matter how silly the idea is on the face of it.

And, like, that's a lot of the appeal for me! Something I really enjoy is taking something that does seem implausible or outright ridiculous and figuring out how to make it work. The Michael Caine as Scrooge in A Muppet Christmas Carol school of fic writing, I guess.

And even with the stuff that's less silly, I commit so hard to the bit that I end up doing things like trying to find a postcode that makes sense for someone living in a tower block in Birmingham in the 1970s that has since been demolished, or what to do for an address in Cumberland approximately at the time its administrative function was absorbed into Cumbria, Westmorland, and parts of Lancashire and Yorkshire. For a fandom which, and I cannot stress this enough, I expected at most three people other than myself would ever read fic for.

I bought the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy scripts and read a lot about writing for radio plays for the BBC to write a HHGTTG fic as a radio play script. I wrote a Survivor AU where ahead of even writing my outline I figured out every vote in every single post-merge episode, the full boot order for the season, all the advantages in play, who went on every reward challenge, and who won every reward and immunity challenge. I also included so much esoteric Survivor lore in a pretty plot central way and expected non-Survivor fans to keep up by using context. Or maybe "expected" is the wrong word, because I always do whatever I want whether I can reasonably expect anyone but me will find it interesting.

Why did I do any of this? Because it's fun! I love the bit, I am in a longterm relationship with the bit. I will always commit to the bit.

Whoever sent this ask knows exactly why you were blocked. Because there's only one way that they know it even happened. They either are the person who did the blocking or they have been talking to that person. So they know why. Which is really messed up if you think about it. Because you don't know why. And instead of having an adult conversation.... You got blocked with no explanation and then got a shitty nonny designed to try and make you feel bad.

I honestly don't know why some people derive pleasure from inflicting emotional pain on others, but I would guess that if we knew their story we would probably feel sorry for them. Because emotionally and mentally healthy people do not do things like this.

Elsa, you are an amazing person! And I mean that in the real sense of the word. Not just on Tumblr but out in the real world. The things you've done with your life are amazing and admirable and not to be taken lightly.

But even on here.... You run CFCW which many people feel is the backbone of the fandom and you do it with grace and dignity and humility. You leave the nonny feature turned on despite the damaged people out there who do their best to use it to hurt you. You have supported people who have put a knife firmly in your back. You bring logic and rationality to every situation. I've never seen you be hateful or crappy to anyone, even those who are hateful and crappy to you. And that takes some amount of zen that I do not possess.

You keep going through everything. And you have never failed to be a source of support and encouragement to me when I have my 'why do I bother to stay here' moments. And you have never failed to be a source of support and encouragement to me when I have real life struggles and issues.

Even when you are attacked, you always struggle to find the right and fair thing to do. I think people who engage in this kind of behavior struggle mightily with self-esteem issues, jealousy, insecurity, etc.

You already know my suggestions and opinions about this issue.

I'm not sure, Nonny - and outside of wanting to be hurtful - I'm not sure why you felt the need to send this to me, either. But since you did, I'll bite... let's address.

I have been a huge supporter of the creator for months now. I simply love their work and always looked forward to seeing it. I found it so unique, fun, and lighthearted. I talked them up to anyone who wanted to hear about it - and some who probably did not, as well. I did all I could to promote them and share their work, and they seemed to be very appreciative of it.

We even messaged privately. As recently as this week, they sent me an adorable shot of Tobias and his little girl that was not posted publicly, and just yesterday, they asked if I wanted to help with a new character that was going to help put little Toby in his place. If posting screenshots wasn't something I find to be a disgusting invasion of privacy, I'd share them here as confirmation. But I'm not going to change who I am, even if I am hurt and bewildered.

I won't lie. Waking up to this was upsetting and hurtful, but such is life on Tumblr, right? Between this and other things happening in the fandom recently, I'm really starting to reaccess what my role is here and how I should interact with, support, and be involved with others going forward. I will be making changes.

To be clear, I'm not leaving. I alone will dictate when that day comes. But I've tried to be supportive of everyone here. I never block people unless I know for a fact that they've done something very bad to me or others because I've always felt I should support people in our fandom, even if we're not friends on a personal level.

I'm rethinking how I move forward - both on my own blog and with CFWC. The future will look quite different.

Anyway, Nonny, if your goal was to hurt me and rub some salt in a would this morning, congratulations. You won for approximately 10 minutes. But I was quickly reminded of how wonderful some of the people I have met here are - and that changed my perspective almost instantly.

If havenroyals ever sees this, I'd invite them to reach out to me personally. I can't see anything that I did that would warrant this, but if I did do something to upset them, it would be nice to have the courtesy of knowing what it was and perhaps a chance to rectify it.
