Ryūga - THE LAST DRAGON’S CHOSEN
Imperial City, Luthien Sanethia Kurita Parade Grounds Early October, 3153
The morning air carried the crisp bite of autumn. The towering banners of the Draconis Combine snapped in the wind, the Dragon’s Crest emblazoned on red silk, watching over the assembled warriors like the unwavering gaze of the Coordinator himself.
Ryūga Kurita stood at the head of the formation, his draconic visage imposing even among the assembled might of his chosen forces. His newly granted rank of Gunji-no-Kanrei weighed heavily upon his shoulders—but only in the political sense. The actual burden? That, he welcomed.
The warriors before him stood in perfect, unwavering discipline. At the forefront, the Ryuken-san—his personal regiment, the elite warriors forged in the crucible of Dragoon training. To their right, the Hikage, their sleek battle armor battalion led by his deadly and devastatingly powerful lover, Chu-sa Dahiya Ult Salah-Miyamoto.
Dahiya stood tall at his side, her arms crossed over her chest, her hooved feet planted firmly on the ground. Unlike the blackened stealth armor she typically wore into battle, today she was clad in the dress uniform of the DCMS, though even that did little to hide the sheer imposing muscularity of her towering, striped equine form.
Her black-and-white fur gleamed in the morning sun, her mane—a dramatic mohawk—standing wild yet controlled, much like the warrior herself. Golden eyes, sharp and piercing, surveyed the field with the detached scrutiny of a predator analyzing its prey. Every movement she made, no matter how subtle, betrayed unshakable confidence, and those close enough to hear the solid clack of her hooves against the parade ground could feel the weight of her presence.
Yet, for all the silent reverence of the warriors before him, Ryūga’s mind remained sharpened by the reality of war. Helios would not be a mere exercise in honor and discipline. It would be a trial by fire. And these warriors, his warriors, would carve the fate of the Combine into the stars with their blades and ‘Mechs.
The Coordinator had summoned him personally just the night before, bestowing the Gunji-no-Kanrei title with the understanding that this campaign was not just about the Blakist remnants—it was a declaration. A declaration that the Draconis Combine still dictated its own destiny, even as the new Star League gathered its strength.
Ryūga turned his emerald gaze toward the approaching officer, the sho-sho of the Hikage, who snapped a precise bow before him.
“Kanrei, the final assessments are complete. The forces are prepared for embarkation.”
Ryūga nodded, his massive arms crossing over his barrel chest, his expression unreadable.
“Good. But we wait.”
It was a minute or so later that the rhythmic sound of synchronized 'Mech footsteps filled the air. Heavy, deliberate, and utterly in sync.
A new force was arriving.
He already knew who it was.
The Amaterasu.
Ryūga turned his gaze to the horizon, where over a hundred ‘Mechs approached in perfect formation, gleaming in the morning light with their distinctive, intimidatingly beautiful color scheme—brilliant white armor adorned with bold scarlet and gold filigree, their regal aesthetics a stark contrast to the more utilitarian designs of most DCMS units.
At the forefront of the formation, in a sleek Clan-built OmniMech, stood their commander:
Tai-sa Reika Jurobei.
If the Amaterasu were legendary, then Reika Jurobei was a myth made flesh.
Ryūga’s emerald eyes narrowed ever so slightly, not in suspicion, but in undeniable admiration. He had known Reika would come—her loyalty to him was unquestionable—but to see her arrive with the entire regiment was… unexpected.
She moved like a goddess descending to the mortal realm, her immaculately sculpted form stepping down from her pristine customized Masakari, a paragon of deadly grace and haunting beauty.
Her flowing black hair, streaked with ethereal white, framed a face so perfectly crafted it was almost surreal. Her uniform, tailored to perfection, accentuated a voluptuous yet impossibly toned physique—breasts full and impossibly firm, her narrow waist sculpted, her hips and thighs curving in ways that defied reality.
Behind her, the Amaterasu warriors dismounted in synchronized perfection, each more breathtaking than the last, their hyper-enhanced beauty only adding to their otherworldly presence. They were living weapons, honed for both lethal combat and psychological warfare—and even Ryūga, a warrior forged in blood and duty, could not deny their utter magnetism.
Every man and woman watching was utterly transfixed.
But Ryūga Kurita was no ordinary man.
He stepped forward, his immense, draconic frame towering over most of those present, yet his presence did not clash with hers—instead, it was like two titanic forces meeting in perfect equilibrium.
Reika bowed gracefully, her fierce yet alluring gaze locked onto his.
“Ryūga Kurita-denka, my unit has chosen to join your campaign on Helios.”
A statement, not a request.
Her voice was silken steel, effortlessly dominant yet laced with an undercurrent of deep, unshakable devotion.
A whisper of a smirk touched Ryūga’s lips as he regarded her, his tail subtly curling behind him, betraying the briefest flicker of amusement.
“You presume much, Reika-sama,” he rumbled, his voice like distant thunder, “but I would be a fool to turn away warriors of your caliber.”
A ghost of a smile curled at her lips—not a victory, but an understanding.
“They will be good for morale,” Ryūga added, casting his gaze over the assembled Amaterasu warriors, the undeniable allure of their presence settling over the gathered troops like an intoxicating storm.
The Hikage and Ryuken-san warriors maintained their discipline, but he could almost hear their heartbeats quicken—the effect of the Amaterasu’s presence was not subtle.
Only Dahiya, standing tall at his right, wind caressing the black and striped fur of her equine form, remained utterly unmoved, her hooved feet firm, her piercing eyes flicking to Reika with intimate familiarity—because she knew.
She knew the truth.
Reika was not merely another officer under his command.
She was his lover.
Just as Dahiya was.
And now, all three of them were marching into war together.
Ryūga turned back to the gathered might of his expeditionary force, his voice carrying across the field, resonating with absolute command:
“We leave for Helios at dawn. The Dragon’s will shall be enforced.”
His warriors, his lovers, his army, stood in perfect silence—because his will was absolute.
As Reika stepped back beside him, her shoulder just barely brushing his, Ryūga exhaled slowly, his emerald eyes watching the rising sun.
And then, his communicator buzzed.
One by one, messages from across the Combine came in.
The 1st Genyosha. The 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, and 8th Sword of Light. The 1st Ghost Regiment. The 2nd Arkab Legion.
Each message echoed the same words.
They were coming.
The Dragon’s Chosen would march to Helios.

AFTERTHOUGHTS - ROUNDUP ROUND 17
January 2025
Hey hey, new year, new games to play! I took a break from playing stuff in December because I was feeling particularly down and wanted to enjoy my next big RPG in a better mood (it was Fantasian, I'm currently feeling better and playing it right now and enjoying it a lot!)
Ultimately it was the right choice, and now I'm really back with a desire to play a bunch of games! And I got some good gaming done in January, and now it's February... Soooo... Let's talk about what I played!!
Marvel vs Capcom Infinite & Beyond (December 21, 2024) - PC
OH MY GOD!! DID YOU HEAR, MARVEL VS CAPCOM IS IN THE NEWS AGAIN!!! I feel like I don't talk about it much, but even though I'm not a huge Marvel (or comic in general) fan, I AODRE Marvel vs Capcom. A genuinely lovely and incredibly fun fighting game series that's become very near and dear to my heart over the years (I just recently came to the conclusion that UMVC3 is one of my favorite fighting games of all time!) And you may also know I ADORE mods! I love modding and got really attached to it through Brawl mods and my love for Project M and have recently dived into TONS more Smash mods like P+ and Akenia Build!
So... imagine Project M... but for Marvel...
I'm sold. I actually LOVED Infinite, I thought it was a really underrated game in terms of its gameplay, a lot of its newcomers are AWESOME, the power stones are fun, I even like the story (though I dont remember much of the specifics, it's just a great idea for a plot with Ultron Sigma and X being the protagonist.) But when Beyond was announced I was BEYOND excited (ha) for it!! MORE MvCI? And they're fixing the admittedly pretty nasty graphics? YES PLEASE!!
I haven't played it an insane amount but I've played it a bit and so far it's WONDERFUL, the game genuinely looks AMAZING. The new OST rules (I particularly love the remix of the MvC theme in the menu and Zero's new theme rules! I also find it funny that they gave Gammorah She-Hulk's theme. It's a great song and I love playing as both of them lol). The new stages are awesome, the new costumes and colors are nice, and it's cool they're trying to change some balancing and moveset stuff. I'd love to see them add in AT LEAST 2 new characters from both sides of the battle, but I imagine something like that is WAAAAY down the line. No rush, they're already doing amazing work with this!
My only issues is that the Onslaught stage makes the game CHUG like crazy, just becomes unplayable for me. And also GOD DAMN THAT FINAL BOSS IS A PAIN IN THE ASS AND I WAS PLAYING ON NORMAL MODE!!
But other than those tiny nitpicks, nah MvCI:B rules! And I can't wait to see where it goes from here! I hope it shows that there's still an audience for the VS series, even if Marvel isn't the next foe for Capcom to take on. But in the mean time, I'm cool with an insanely high quality mod.
Side note: PLEASE MAKE MODS FOR FIREBRAND THAT ADD THE OTHER DEMON'S CREST GARGOYLES TO HIS MOVESET, I DON'T CARE THAT THEY DON'T ALL HAVE WINGS, DESIGN SOME CUTSOM WINGS FOR THEM!!
Panzer Dragoon (March 10, 1995) - Sega Saturn
And next up, for my first brand new game I beat in 2025, we have Panzer Dragoon! A series I have been LONG overdue to play! I love Dragons, I love Starfox and general Shmup/On Rail games, I love lowpoly graphics, I love tropical settings, and I love mixes of ancient/scifi technology. Panzer Dragoon is TAILOR MADE FOR ME. And yet, I haven't given it a chance yet. Mainly because Saturn Emulation wasn't that great for a long time, and Panzer Dragoon isn't super cheap (though not as bad as Saga.) But I decided to give it another shot this year, and found an emulator that takes a bit to understand, but works PERFECTLY! And so, I finally got to dip my toes into this series!
And uh... honestly?? This game was okay. Like, it has a COOL story and world. Like, people having to fight the strange experiments of a bygone civilization while the powers-that-be are constantly trying to resurrect them for their evil gain. And dragons are there? That RULES. I LOVE that shit. I love the graphics, and the music, and the design of the Blue Dragon are wonderful. I particularly enjoy the kind of odd design the Blue Dragon has, with it's big horned helmet, it's unique! And the fact it has fully animated cutscenes is pretty impressive I feel like, especially in a pre-starfox 64 world. The game is very compelling.
But honestly it just wasn't really the most exciting game for me. In fact, I felt like it was pretty lackluster from a gameplay perspective. I know I shouldn't compare it to Starfox 64, its one of my favorite games ever and Panzer Dragoon came out before it... But maaaan, there's just not much you can do in this game. No real movement techniques, movement is kinda stiff in general and I felt like I could barely dodge ANYTHING and instead had to rely on shooting it down. No bombs, no laser upgrades, no upgrades of any kind. Even lock on feels a little impactless to me? And it makes the whole game a little boring at best and frustrating at worst. Like, the main gimmick is that you can look in 360 degrees all around your dragon to fight attackers on all side. Cool! But when you're looking at another angle you lose the ability to dodge all projectiles. Not so cool. It's a neat idea but it's not really as exciting as I feel like it could be if you made more use of the buttons to give the player more techniques and tools. Maybe it's just me?
Gargoyle's Quest II (July 17, 1992) - NES
Speaking of Capcom series I don't talk about nearly enough. Did you all know I LOVE Firebrand? More specifically, Demon's Crest! It's one of my all time favorite games ever made!! But I hadn't really tried any of his other games until GQ1 was added to the NSO. It was fine, but not exactly what I want out of the series and not nearly as good as DC (an unfair comparison for sure). And then, GQ2 just never came to the service! So I forgot about it... UNTIL TheSeventhForce did their Firebrand video and it reminded me I never played it (one of my favorite channels atm btw you should totally watch their stuff!!) And now I finally made the time to play it and complete the Firebrand trilogy! How did it stack up compared to the other 2?
Eh, it's tough to say. Obviously it's not as good as DC again, but that's still an unfair comparison. And when compared to GQ1 it's get a little trickier. It looks way nicer, the NES sprites are actually very good looking. It's faster cause there's no random encounters this time. And it probably controls better and the plot is maybe more interesting? But idk, it was just a little more boring maybe. I don't remember any of the music or anything and sad to say, it just didn't leave the most impactful impression on me. But it was fine! Like, it wasn't bad or anything. Just kind of unremarkable in the grand scheme of things. However, if they ever do that Firebrand Trilogy Remake they mentioned in the Capcom Survey, I think they could totally make this and GQ1 REALLY nice with some improvements and mechanics pulled from DC. But in the mean time, it is nice to have finally played this whole trilogy :)
I will also say, now I have a better understanding of what I think a new Firebrand game should be if the series ever got a reboot of some kind. I won't go into too much detail but I think they should just fully embrace the RPG inspired parts of the Gargoyle Quest games and make the next one a full blown JRPG. And since the series never really had turnbased stuff, and even GQ1 used platforming in its combat, you could totally make it an Action RPG! And what I'm getting at here is that the Tales of team should make a Gargoyle's Quest / Demon's Crest JRPG Reboot.
Panzer Dragoon II Zwei (March 22, 1996) - Sega Saturn
Speaking of Panzer Dragoon... Did you all know there was a sequel to it? I actually don't think I was aware of this game until recently (I thought Saga was next). But I was never one to not be thorough, so, I had to give the sequel a shot too!
Zwei is more of the same, cool world, cool plot, cool cutscenes, you ride a dragon. But this one improves on the first a LOT in my opinion. For starters, you can actually maneuver your dragon in a more meaningful way, allowing you to actually dodge enemy fire. The game on the whole just feels better to control and play, like it's considerably more polished. And while they didn't add a ton of upgrades or techniques your dragon can preform. There is now a bar at the bottom of the screen, and when it's full you can preform a screen wipe / deal massive damage to the boss. It's small, it's not really groundbreaking, but it's COOL and makes the game feel that much more engaging. But I think the most interesting change is the fact your dragon can mutate based on how well you play the game!! This is REALLY cool and I can only imagine how interesting it could've been if different mutations allowed for different control, blasters, or sub weapons you could use in levels. However, I'm not sure if this mechanic will return in the future games. We'll have to see. In the meantime here's what mine looked like by the end of the game, again a very interesting and unique look for the dragon. I like their use of oddly shaped helmets for them.
And building off that concept of lost potential, yeah the game still isn't perfect. Once again looking around you isn't used that amazingly, and some of the bosses are real damage sponges this time around. Similarly, what was UP with that final battle? The camera for the first time ever is jumping all around the arena and it was genuinely a little stomach churning with the way it's snapping all over the place. It certainly was an improvement over the first, though. No question about it, and I hope to see some big improvements on your options in Saga and Orta.
And yes. My Saturn emulator works like a charm. I've played Panzer Dragoon AND Zwei... That means it's finally time. Next time I return to the world of Panzer Dragoon... It's finally time to play Saga. I can't believe it.
Bombing!!: A Graffiti Sandbox (May 18, 2021) - PC
Next up is a really tiny game where there's not too much to talk about. But it's an indie game so I still wanted to give it some attention and love. Bombing is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin, a graffiti sandbox! You just walk around small areas and do some graffiti! It's simple, but it's a lot of fun. There's no goal, you just take your time drawing stuff in quiet night time locations in a city. Listen to music, experiment with different tools. The works.
I don't have too much to say except it's really cute and you probably own it if you've bought any of those big relief bundles, cause it was in a few of them! If you're looking for something small to play and draw with for a bit, it's a good time!
BUT, I have to give it one point of criticism. It's unnerving to me. IDK WHY!! But for some reason cozy first person games where there's NO NPCs while you just do your own thing in silence freak the FUCK out of me. Power Wash Simulator is genuinely so unnerving to me aha. And this one takes place at night so it's even worse. But it's still cute.
Bayonetta 2 (September 20, 2014) - Wii U
ITS FINALLY TIME FOR PEAK ONCE AGAIN!! I played Bayonetta 1 back in 2023 and was blown away by just how amazing it was. And so I went into Bayo 2 with high expectations. I've heard it was just better from my friends and also, I prefer her character design in this one a lot more! I just like the short hair over the bee hive lol.
Overall I'd say Bayonetta 2 is more of the same but clearly much more polished. Combat feels nicer, movement in general feels nicer, and those graphics. GOD DAMN THIS GAME LOOKS GOOD!! I was seriously blown away by how amazing the cutscenes looked, I dont think I've played anything this hyper realistic made for Wii U, and I'm genuinely impressed it was able to do graphics that look this stunning. I also liked the new story, it's nice seeing Bayo adapt to her new life and hanging out with Jeanne. I thought the whole plot with her saving Jeanne from hell was really cool and it was nice to fight some demons this time. I like teaming up with Bayo's parents, I'm shocked this series has had 2 child main characters and neither of them were annoying, Snake within was SO COOL I can't believe the animal transformations aren't in smash, Bayonetta pole dancing on the ISS before shooting it at the final boss was AMAZING! The whole game is just as exciting and over the top as the first, and I'm SO glad they didn't tone anything down! In fact, it felt even hornier and even more violent than the first, I'm blown away Nintendo let them do all this stuff lol. I liked the new summons like the frog, and I loved do boxing matches between the giant summons. Bayonetta is still awesome!
But, I still have a lot of the same problems with it as I did the first. Easy is too easy, hard is too hard ect ect. Like all character action games I just cannot be bothered to care about combat when it's stuff like X,Y,X,X,Y,Y,Y,X ect ect. But for me. I do just feel like this one dragged a little bit towards the end. Like, it wasn't as exciting in the final moments as the first one was? I'd argue the plot was easier to follow than the first, but I still found myself more bored by the ending than I did the first one. However, it certainly did pick up for the final boss. Maybe I would've liked it more if it had focused on fighting Hell's forces the whole way through, cause I can't help but feel like the Loki stuff almost got in the way of it and Jeanne's revival felt a little rushed? Idk
Over all though, yeah it's more good as fuck Bayonetta fun. Bayonetta rules, and I'm... interested to find out why everyone hates 3 so much. Oh well, even if 2 maybe wasn't as life changing as 1, I still think it was probably over all a better game. Maybe... Maybe I just think she's hotter in this one... Idk. Bayo is cool.

Fatal Fury 2 (November 26, 1993) - SNES
They put Fatal Fury on NSO. I pay for the damn thing so I'm gonna play some Fatal Fury!! I've played my share of SNK fighting games in recent times, but I still feel like I haven't played enough of their stuff. So any excuse to try more is always appreciated.
Not much to say on this one cause I'm a coward and played it with super easy settings, but yeah Fatal Fury 2 was neat! I'm actually still really impressed with the graphics and music in this game, I don't know if it was higher quality on the arcade cabinet but it looks pretty damn good even if it was compromised in any way to get it on SNES. I was particularly really thrilled when I saw it had a light day/night cycle where the time of day changes between rounds. More fighting games need that NOWADAYS, but this game was doing it on the SNES. Also while I couldn't really get the hang of the lane system (something I remember struggling with when I tried FF1 when Terry was announced for Smash, and also struggled with in Guilty Gear Isuka lol) I feel like the idea of having a fighting game take place on multiple lanes COULD be really cool. Especially if they were to make attacks that traveled between lanes or could be angled? Idk.
Another random small detail I have to give this game some love for is that the final boss music is actually being played by a band in the background. Such a cute detail. Neat game :)

Related to this I have a couple bones to pick with Flexner.
So, p 209 in 1990 paperback reprint of the 1975 edition The Traitor and the Spy: In the crests painted on their individual shields, all but André mingled love and war.....André had "two gamecocks fighting," and the boast, "No rival." The first issue is that André wasn't the only one with a shield that didn't have an obviously love-related design. Tarleton's had a light dragoon with the motto "swift, vigilant & bold". (Page 7. You can't ctrl-f in that link, I'm pretty sure because it's images.)
The other thing is that I say not obviously love-related because there's a novel from 1883 called A Great Treason where André is a semi-major character and is in love with one of the main female characters (who doesn't reciprocate his interest, for the record) and "No rival" is definitely a romantic message in that story:
Captain André - whose grace in saluting was particularly admired - had for his device, two gamecocks fighting, and for his motto - "NO RIVAL." He had made a mighty mystery to Althea of this motto, but had darkly hinted that, when she saw it, she would perhaps see more in it than met the common eye. When, therefore, the Knights of the Blended Rose halted to pay their devoirs to their chosen ladies, and Captain André - as if by an accidental movement - extended his right arm towards the shield in his esquire's hand, Althea felt her cheeks tingle.
(In this book, the main characters are Noel and Jasper, who are half-brothers, their cousin Mary, Althea, and her brother whose name I forget, and Noel, Jasper, and André are in love with Althea, Althea is in love with Jasper but everyone except possibly André thinks she hates him, Mary is in love with Noel, and Althea's brother is in love with Mary, and I spent the entire time trying to figure out how everyone was going to end up either paired up or dead at the end of the book. André was going to bite it, so that's him sorted, but I couldn't decide who they were going to kill off or whether there was going to be a surprise extra girl introduced at some point. It turned out to be the latter - Jasper marries Althea, Noel marries Mary, and Althea's brother gets the surprise extra girl in the epilogue.
Interestingly I'm not sure how much of a thing André/Peggy Shippen was in the 19th century version of the legend because I can think of three novels including this one where it's not and I'm not sure I can think of any where it was. In the 1930s and '40s it's a thing, and in real life the Phipps family, who were the descendants of Peggy's step-grandchildren and are the ones who donated the lock of hair that he's supposed to have given her, had a 19th century tradition that he was in love with her, but I don't know how many people in the 19th century thought they were ever in love.
André is also a massive dork in this book - Being thus naturally sanguine and impulsive, it was but a law of nature that he should believe himself to be a deeply-tragic person - and being as transparent as the day, that he should be convinced he had a prodigious aptitude for intrigue and diplomacy.)
Evidently my half-joke about André wanting the motto "Love and Glory" but being forced to go with "No Rival" instead so he went "screw you" and gave it back to himself when he made that booklet for Peggy Chew was someone's actual theory. Also I will be referring to the "No Rival" design as a pair of belligerent chickens from now on. (Also I hope she's exaggerating about it being displayed close enough to a window that the ink has almost completely faded because holy fucking shit Cliveden you should know better. You're a museum.)
No one has any idea what exactly is going on with that drawing because first of all if you see a colored reproduction/the original, it's clear that it's a knight of the Blended Rose, plus since it was for Peggy Chew and he was her knight, why would he have drawn someone other than himself (plus Captain Watson was the head of the knights of the Burning Mountain and should have had two squires), but the motto on that shield isn't the one that he's supposed have had, it's the one that Captain Watson had. So everyone's confused and it's not like we can ask him. (Or can we? Break out the ouija board!)
I'm curious about how they worked who got what motto and what girl and so on because I'm not sure whether you can claim that André escorting Peggy Chew says anything about his relative feelings for her compared to his other girlfriends, because on the one hand it was a performance plus it was political rather than just André throwing a big party because he liked parties (I think the politics - and the bit where this wasn't just André's show - may be something the Ronald bio actually goes into; we'll see if he gets his conspiracy theories all over it though), so he could have been paired with her for reasons that had nothing to do with his feelings, especially since I don't think any other knight is assumed to be paired with his favorite girlfriend. On the other, he was heavily involved in organizing it, so he probably could have been all "yes I will take this one thankyouverymuch" and everyone else was like "fine, let him have his girlfriend".
(I mean, I think you can argue that he was a little seriously into her based on the poem he gave her when the British left. I just don't know if you can do it based on the Mischianza.)

I finished the dragoon Crest for my Aranea Highwind Cosplay but I want to make this Available for free use for cosplay purposes only since I couldn't find an actual design of this available. I want to give something to others to use instead of trying to go through hell eyeballing the design. I incorporated what I saw on the figurine and what I saw on her actual character model with a little touch up of my interpretation.
I know that there are probably more accurate ones but I just insisted to make it and share it.

A character design commission I got of Aias in custom dragoon armor from @kohiu !
As always Kan did an absolutely wonderful job - the concept here was Aias merged with/drawing on Ysayle’s power since that’s kinda his whole schtick, burning his own life up to let the dead live again through him. Since he’s merged with Ysayle, there’s a lot of small details pertaining to her (well, specifically Shiva). The most prominent is probably the icicle designs circling around him on various places on the armor matching her ice crown; I love that as Ysayle is his oldest and dearest friend, it’s like she’s embracing him as such 🥺 His thighs being out is sooooo big brained especially since it makes him match Shiva’s leotard design, and the crest on his chest is based on the design on Shiva’s boots!
Due to the merging/housing of souls, Aias’ palette changes to be more cool/blue. Obviously his hair gets longer and changes to Ysayle’s ice blue hair, though he keeps the black gradient on the tips. His skin also shifts from being a purple with red undertones, to a cooler shade of violet. His scales + horns also start looking as if they’re ice sculptures~

LFRP -- Faiolan Penderghast (Endwalker Edition)
Name: Faiolan Penderghast
Age: 27
Birthday:
Race: Ishgardian Elezen
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual (female lean)
Marital Status: Single
Hair: Black Eyes: Blue Height: 6'10" Build: Athletic Voice: (( still trying to decide ;) )) Distinguishing Features:
Magitek Prosthetic: After losing his left arm in battle, Faiolan was fitted with a Magitek Prosthetic, fashioned by the minds at Garlond Ironworks in response to the increasing number of grievous war injuries and amputations. The arm itself is a simpler design, but it is capable of all functions necessary as well as being able to simulate the sensation of touch through a prototype aetheric feedback mesh interface.
Wounds of War: Having sustained a great number of injuries over the years, Faiolan's body is a tapestry of scars. A majority of his right side, including parts of his chest, abdomen, shoulder, arm, neck, and thigh are marked with burn scars sustained by dragonfire. A myriad of other scars such as stab wounds, arrow punctures, etc. are pockmarked across his body.

Smoking Habit: Faiolan enjoys smoking from a pipe, as it helps him relax and think.
Drugs: He occasionally has to take something for phantom pains in his severed arm, as there are flair ups and bad days, but he rarely engages in them recreationally.
Alcohol: Faiolan enjoys everything from a pungent, nauseating grog to a find Ishgardian brandy, though he tends to appreciate the sort of stuff you find at shady, hole-in-the-wall type of bars more than the extravagant stuff from a noble's wine cellar.
Heretic of the Holy See: Turmoil and treachery had long infected the Ishgardian Orthodoxy, turning brother against brother and man against dragon for nigh on a millennia. As agents of darkness worked to spurn Ishgard towards their own foul ends through the Archbishop Thordan VII, his agents of the Inquisition often sought to root out Dravanian agents and sympathizers entrenched within Ishgard's people. Some Inquisitors, however, saw their own sort of sin, and excised it under the auspices of heresy in service to both the Arcbishop's plans and darker designs. Faiolan, his sister Brielle, and his uncle Artemoux were all targets of the Inquisition, accused of heresy and given their sentences. Artemoux escaped capture and went into exile, a path which Faiolan would follow, while Brielle would be imprisoned until near the end of the Dragonsong War. This brand of heretic would stain their family even after being proved false, as there are still those who begrudge Ser Aymeric's revelation of the truth and the overthrowing of Thordan VII. Faiolan and Artemoux both would also fight alongside the heretics, most notably amongst the ranks of those dedicated to serving Lady Iceheart, leading up to the ultimate conflict with Thordan VII by the Warrior of Light. Those in Ishgard would likely known of House Penderghast and the woes these allegations had caused, and likely stand by the belief that they are heretics and traitors, and see the corruption of the church for what it was.
Former Gladiator: During his time in exile from Ishgard, Faiolan plied the only trade he had any skill in, that of the sword. He took to the Bloodsands of Ul'dah under the patronage of Brande and members of the wealthy elite who hoped to see their investments returned by victory (or constructed defeats). Though his career began a bit rough, Faiolan was forged into a formidable combatant, though he saw very little of the gil from his winnings. Such was the way of Ul'dah, and yet it put food in his belly and a roof over his head... even if that roof was more of a tent in the refugee camp.
Refugee Crisis: While some would recognize him from his bouts on the Bloodsands, Faiolan was also a common sight amongst the refugees, being a resident of one of the refugee camps himself. He was consistently seen doling out food rations and other necessities to other refugees, as well as acting as something of an enforcer for troublemakers and the occasional Brass Blade who overstepped their authority.
Veteran of the Dragonsong War: Faiolan returned to Ishgard at the behest of his uncle Artemoux to serve under Lady Iceheart and her heretics. Artemoux revealed to Faiolan the truth that the Lady Iceheart herself gleaned from the dragons, and thus convinced him that it was their duty to fight and overthrow the corrupt leadership of Ishgard and aid them in seeing the truth for themselves. In the end, Ishgard was indeed freed from the yolk of Thordan and his lies, and in the days after the end of the war the membes of House Penderghast were pardoned by the House of Lords and House of Commons, allowing Faiolan to return to Ishgard. He still maintains a relationship with those whom served on the side of the heretics.
Noble of Ishgard: Faiolan is a noble of a minor House of Ishgard, and thus is afforded all the privileges and respect of that station. House Penderghast was formed when its patriarch, Lord Aloysius Penderghast of House Durendaire, married a commoner woman who worked as a cook and servant to House Durendaire. Between muddying his lineage and the accusations of heresy that would eventually come, House Penderghast never enjoyed the prestige of the other noble houses, and only in recent times has it gained the respect of its peers through their efforts to assist in Ishgard's rebuilding and its commitment to the new path on which its citizens walk.
Knight of the Heavens' Ward: (This is a personal headcanon thing, and if it doesn't jive with your own, that's cool. This is my life and I'm gonna live it.) Before the stain of heresy fell upon his family, Faiolan was meant to serve as a squire to the knights of the Heavens' Ward to perhaps one day serve amongst them himself. However, the organization was temporarily dismantled in the wake of the Dragonsong War due to the treachery of the Knights Twelve. With trepidation did a reformation being, hoping to field the new Heavens' Ward as a most elite unit of Knights for incredibly dangerous operations alongside the Eorzean Alliance. Amongst other candidates, Faiolan was chosen to take a seat on the newly formed Heavens' Ward.
Veteran of the War for Ala Mhigan Liberation: Part of the Ishgardian forces dispatches to Baelsar's Wall alongside the rest of the Eorzean Alliance, Faiolan served as a unit commander during the War to liberate Ala Mhigo from the Empire. He fought alongside other members of the Alliance as well as Ala Mhigan Resistance members, and even lost his arm in the battle to retake the capital from the Garleans. Many of his comrades were lost in the fighting, and the bond formed with those whom managed to survive is one that will forever remain unbroken.
Howdy there folks! I'm Mirage, and welcome to my revamped LFR bit for Faiolan. I've been part of the tumblr / FFXIV community for a few months now as I played through the entire game in preparation for Endwalker. I've been roleplaying across various mediums (including forums, TTRPGs, and games) for over 20 years. I absolutely love story-driven RPGs, great characters, cool stories, and all that jazz.
Those of you who have seen my tumblr likely know I suffer from a lot of anxiety and depression. I'm pretty open about that because it affects me pretty harshly, especially when it comes to writing and socializing. What you won't get me from me a constant stream of content or someone who is going to be at their best 100% of the time. What you will get is someone who is fairly authentic, I like to think, as well as passionate... but someone who values quality more than quantity. I'm very laidback when it comes to writing and roleplaying, and find that just making friends and generally staying in touch over time is more important than adhering to some kind of strict posting regimen or anything.
I'm willing to RP in any way you feel most comfortable with, be that in-game, Discord, or some other outside thingy. I'm a little more focused on long-term roleplay, but I don't mind something a little simpler, short-term, or casual. It's the journey, not the destination, that matters after all!

for the ask meme, 2/3/4/15 for all four characters ?
:O!!!
post
What major allegiances does your character have? Are they with the Scions through and through, or do they have different or additional priorities?
B’sahla: B’sahla is on board with the Scions pretty quickly. She doesn’t exactly have any plans, so she isn’t abandoning anything to be with them. She is strongly tied with Ul’dah and vehemently opposed to the monetarists. Most of her work in the Flames is centered around assuring that refugees and the other unfortunate souls living in Thanalan have access to basic necessities such as food, water and shelter. She has emotional ties to each of the expansion city states, but Ishgard most of all, having married Haurchefant.
Philomena: Phil’s allegiance is with B’sahla, and their Free Company. None of them are Scions, though they work closely with them due to B’sahla’s involvement. She also works closely with the Seedseers, as a White Mage, and due to her class and childhood she is fairly tied to Gridania. She also has ties to Ishgard, due to her mother’s side of the family and her older brother following her footsteps and becoming a Dragoon beside B’sahla, though her relationship with that side of the family is strained. Her attachment to Ishgard is mostly due to her involvement in the events of Heavensward.
Deidre Hunt: Deidre has a very rough start with the Scions. She’s a bit stunted, emotionally, having grown up being made to replace her mother in the household due to her work related absences and then abandonment. The Scions unknowingly take advantage of Deidre’s *shut down and do as she’s told because she’s the only one who can* trauma response, and she leaves after Thancred is rescued only for Papalymo to track her down and drag her back (sorry Fray). The only Scions she really considers herself close with are the twins and perhaps Lyse. She isn’t really attached to the organization as a whole. As a White Mage she is aligned with the Twelves wood, and eventually she is formally adopted into House Fortemps; between them and Sid and Rielle she considers Ishgard to be more of a home than the one she grew up in.
Caelen Hunt: Caelen is the head navigator of the Krakens, and his allegiance is primarily to them. Eventually he reconnects with his older sister, and becomes an ally of the Scions (and Alphinaud’s bf uwu). He is also their pirate diplomate to the Confederacy, staying behind in the East during the majority of Stormblood after the Krakens initially drop them off in Hingashi. Not notable enough that the Exarch knows who he is when he gets called to the first though, where he splits time between being the Agricultural Expert and being part of the guard. I guess his true allegiance is to his sister? Gay siblings be running away from home. u.u
How does your character get along with the beast tribes?
B’sahla: Sahla has a lot of personal disdain for the Amalj’aa due to their part in driving her tribe to extinction in the Sagolii, but it’s not really any more disdain than she has for the Drake tribe for the same reason. She is willing to work with the untempered ones, because they’re not part of the group that used to hunt her tribe.
Philomena: Dislikes the Ixals but mostly because she lives in Gridania and her brother could have very much been killed in one when he was part of the Lancers guild, though that’s mostly because Wildwoods toss Duskwights into overly dangerous situations. :/
Deidre Hunt: Real fucking tired of the fact that the city states are the real reasons primals keep being summoned. She wouldn’t call Y’shtola a friend but her thing about Limsa really hit the nail on the head for Deidre. She’s got a soft spot for Moogles and Namazu which annoys the Unsundered (mainly Emet, Cassandra’s father) to no end because Azem Made Those so of COURSE she likes them. The fact that the Moogles piss off BOTH Estinien and Sid, who are absolutely older brother material, is definitely a plus in her eyes.
Caelen Hunt: That one group of Sahagin is chill, and he gets on well with the Kojin of the Blue. They’re really the only ones he has any reason to interact with. Leviathan was a Bitch to navigate through because he kept changing the aether flow on them, but that group of Sahagin had nothing to do with the primal, and that’s why he signed up to steer the barge anyway. Secret Echo sensitivities. (Secret until Tsukuyomi, at least.)
What was your character doing during the Seventh Umbral Calamity? Do they still think/talk about that time, or do they try to avoid it now?
Everyone was pretty much hiding with their families. B’sahla was 25, and her tribe was cut off by the U’s territory, so they were very isolated, and had no more trade routs for them to get information from. Philomena was 12, left alone to hide in one of the sanctuaries set up for citizens because her parents were fighting in Gridania’s forces. Her older brother(17) was part of the few Lancers left to secure the forest itself. Their father perished in battle, and their mother died from her injuries at home. Deidre and Caelen were 13 and 11, and they’re from a very backwater area of the Twelveswood, so they had nowhere to hide with their siblings and father but the cellar of their farmhouse. It was a bad time for everyone, and none of them were really involved or doing anything noble. Everyone but B’sahla was too young.
What is the most important item in your character’s possession?
B’sahla: She has a lot of sentimental items from her tribe (her mother’s bow, the ring from her late nuhn Fhey), but the most important one for daily use would be the travelers belt she inherited from her father. As far as adventurers go it’s a guild standard that everyone has (my lore for inventory bag), but this is sort of an heirloom used specifically by the designated tradesmen of the tribe.
Philomena: Probably either her White Mage soulstone or the metal crest of the de Arboraux family. It’s both an heirloom from their mother, and their tie to Ishgard, which allowed them to keep in touch with B’sahla when the Scions had to flee.
Deidre: The small velvet bag she hides her Dark Knight soulstone in. Once that cats out of the bag after the final steps of fate, eventually it becomes the ring Edmont gives her of the family crest when he adopts her as his daughter, giving her claim to the de Fortemps name that she wouldn’t have as a ward.
Caelen: The linkpearl that keeps him in contact with Deidre and Alphinaud. He worries about them. Being able to contact them whenever he gets echo related Bad Feelings is very important.

Art by @elizastarkart , Paid Commission
Sorneth Caduceus
“Given my relatively small social circle, I’m seeking to meet some new faces and perhaps find some new adventures and stories to tell in the process. Perhaps you would be someone interested? Perhaps a bard like myself catches your eye, sparks your curiosity?”
The Basics ––– –
Age: 35
Birthday: December 21st
Race: Duskwight Elezen
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bi-sexual
Marital Status: Happily married, closed relationship.
Server: Balmung, Crystal Datacenter
Physical Appearance ––– –
Hair: Natural silver in hue and dusted with white highlights, it falls to mid neck in the front, and his shoulder blades in the back.
Eyes: A dark grey ‘white’ of his eye makes the moon white hues of each iris all the more vibrant. Strangely, they seem almost wolf-like in nature, though that could just be coincidence.
Height: 6'10 (208.28 cm)
Build: A militant style background, and strict upkeep have resulted in the sculpted muscle that makes up most of the Bowman's frame. Resulting in a tone that is well suited for agility, speed, and endurance.
Distinguishing Marks:
Facial scar; Only about a year old, this wound was obviously left by a sword given it’s depth and path. It cuts down from his right brow, over the bridge of his nose, and down his left cheek almost to the jawline.
Facial ink; intricate filigree like vines in dark grey ink adorn the right side of his face both above and below his right eye.
Crest of the Wolf; Above his heart rests the bust of a wolf in black ink.
Common Accessories:
Feather adorned hat; Rarely if ever seen without it, one might wonder if it’s removal or destruction would bring about the end of him with how attached he is to it. Weathered, but well cared for, it’s obvious that it’s been on every adventure the bard has had over the years.
Well made dragon scale collar; Stamped with a wolf’s head with an arrow in it’s jaws, the artisan made collar is of the bard’s own creation. An inch and a half wide black leather band circles his neck, with the outer surface wreathed in lavender hued scales from a dragoon’s signature armor. With a locking dog collar buckle at the back of the neck, and the crest of a dragon wrapped around an orchid at it’s front. The piece is both practical, and artistic in it’s design. The ‘d’ ring at it’s front also sports worry stone like pendant of a dark, night sky blue hue.
Silver orchid pendant; Strung from a sturdy chain and hangs low enough to kiss his collarbones, the pendant is as well worn as the holy symbol of a priest or paladin.

Patron Deity: He holds a special fondness for the fateweaver
Fears: The rage of Dragoons, the loss of his senses, being forgotten/erased by time.

Additional information ––– –
Smoking Habit: Frequent, usually an herbal mixture of medications and male birth control - though he will on occasion dip into fogweed to quell his nightmares and dull the pain of flashbacks/painful memories. Drugs: Aside from what he smokes, he usually avoids such substances unless properly prescribed to him by a medical professional. Alcohol: On occasion. He drinks to taste, and no longer indulges in wine as much as he used to - on account that it makes him into one -very- flirtatious and amorous drunk. Though he has been known to enjoy absinthe with select company.
RP Hooks ––– –
The Wandering Bard; The man is not hard to find, and even harder to miss. From the music flowing from his harp within the taverns of Eorzea, to his enthralling stories told in the streets to groups of interested people or curious individuals. From the smallest settlements, to the big cities, his name his known as is his talent. All one needs is a genuine interest, and the bard is ever humbly at your service.
The Night Hunter; Only in circles of voidsent hunters, is his skills as a professional seasoned hunter known to his peers. With a reputation for clearing up to A-rank marks solo, he has never over his career failed a contract. For the right price, his bow is yours should you wish to hire him. Should you be tainted, marked, or a creature of the void or light yourself however? Be weary, for the wolf is always watching, and eager for a hunt.
Bad Dravanian Artisan; A bit of a guilty pleasure for the bard, his skills in leatherwork has been turned from a hobby into a marketed craft to the public. From collars, to leashes, floggers, whips, crops, bindings, and harnesses, he produces quality lifestyle and kink gear to interested customers. Custom works are also available to order, and the man takes pride in his every creation - even wearing and putting his own work to use himself. Stamped with his signature of a wolf’s head with an arrow in it’s jaws - it’s easy to trace his creations back to him.
The Secret Author; Under the pen name ‘Heliake Norrst’ the bard has written and produced a great number of books available in most book stores across the world, and in multiple languages for his international fan base. While his work varies in genre from adventure, to horror, mystery, and tragedy. It’s his Romance novels and Steamy erotica that’s made him world famous. Perhaps your character is a fan? Perhaps your character has been on a mission to find out who this mysterious and enigmatic author really is?
Lost in the woods; As one who hunts for his own food, leathers, pelts, and other materials for his craft. The bard is as much at home within the forests of the Shroud and the Coerthean wilds as he is within his cabin. It would not be far-fetched for him to cross someone lost, or having fallen victim to the erratic weather patterns or wildlife within those regions. Be it him happening upon someone while on a hunt, or having someone banging on his cottage door in want for help or shelter. Both are equally possible.
The Kind Traveler; The bard is not one to leave another at the mercy of fate, and even in his more ‘off the beaten path’ traveling it’s not an uncommon occurrence to come across another in need of aid. Nor is he hesitant to offer it.

wrapped up playing final fantasy ix
yeah, idk, at some point it became clear to me that the game wasn’t really heading in the directions i wanted it to. that was... a while ago, lol. but i’m usually committed to finishing these things once i start them, even if they’re less than what i’d hoped.
on the game side of things... it’s a final fantasy game. it’s got all the regular final fantasy stuff going on. for this one in particular, i guess i like this type of ability system. otherwise it’s your standard, mostly-mindless turned based combat. summons take way to long to play. as usual i tend to favour physical combat interspersed with a healer that can cast holy. but i ended up relying a lot on Frog Drop and Dragon Crest, heh. my favourite team is something like Eiko and pick 2 {Quina, Freya, Amarant}.
Also this final fantasy gets credit for finally getting me to like moogles. they are... so cute in this. Stiltzkin is pretty great, as was Mogmi and Moguta being silly in love, but my absolute favourite was Moorock, who gets so gd excited about writing a letter and loudly exclaims ‘I love Mognet!’ even though he’s never heard of it before. why are he and Mozme not on disk four tho?! tell me they made it out okay D’x Although, hmm, I’m not sure why we trusted Artemicion with more superslick at the end there. Since he apparently he got high snorting the last bottle. god, don’t trust the addict with more of his substance.
idk, I guess I’ll go through the story characters. and just... kind of hope I cover everything that way.
Quina
I... love them. And I tend to like gag characters but... I love them. Such ambition... to eat everything. So cute. So silly. So relatable. I also really like the nightgown/smock kind of thing going on. Need more characters dressed like granny that are trying to eat us out of house and home.
Amarant
Um... there seemed to be a lot going on in this sector of the story that kind of... needed more time. Or otherwise needed cutting out, probably. I find it conceptually interesting, at least: loners being confronted with the boundaries of their... determination to be alone. So I like him in spite of myself. But Zidane’s played a pretty shitty trick on him, once upon a time, and it’s a little hard to justify the kind of devotion Amarant has in lieu of that. Because... yes... it is devotion... somehow. And it’s a little hard to buy the way he becomes so easily enamored with how Zidane’s mind works with so little development.
Eiko
Mmm, again, there was some interesting stuff here about her growing up alone, and the way she immediately clung to Zidane as a way to escape that loneliness. But her crush on him is taken a bit too seriously by the narrative, like she’s really in love with him, and that gets a bit creepy, imo. The stuff with Mog is interesting, but kind of too much trying to tug on the heartstrings when the heartstrings haven’t been wound and tuned, if you know what I mean. I suppose, at the end of the day, I didn’t end up liking her all that much. But feel like I could have and should have if they had written her even a little better.
Freya
I love this aesthetic... so much. Kind of a mix of red mage and dragoon, both of which I love individually, plus rat person. She is one of my faves on this basis alone. In terms of her actual personality... it’s so sparse and inconsistent. Ah, there are some landmarks I like - the kind of quiet and sternly professional bits, the loyalty to her homeland, she has some good moments deciding to fight after the destruction of Cleyra, and talking with Amarant too. Just- I’m left feeling like she was never pushed to a workable extreme anywhere in the narrative, and so she doesn’t really have any clear, defining personality characteristic. It’s more like... a lot of shit happens to her, and she’s sad but not too sad, and strong but not too strong. And it’s kind of lacklustre at the end of the day.
Steiner
I don’t really know how to say this except to say it. He’s funny and sweet at times. Overly distracted by rules and decorum, of course. But he also veers hard into being rather annoying to watch at times. He is... not a practical person. Overall, I’m kind of impressed with his bit in the story, though. Even if it fades as the narrative progresses. His relationship with Beatrice was kind of a bright spot in the narrative as a whole for me. I maybe... can’t help but like the fact that this hypercompetent, beautiful lady falls for his bumbling ass. Beatrice in general strikes a neat line between being chilly and needy and, really, way too good for anyone else in the cast.
Vivi
A great character and... ultimately a huge copout. There was a lot of build up to Vivi dying and, ultimately, it felt rather unsatisfying. It felt like they were trying to rob the sadness out of it by limiting what they showed us of him in the epilogue to his breed of offspring. But, even before then, they touched on so many themes about him in a way that really attempted to distance itself from the fear of human mortality. Like, this isn’t something that only happens to weird artificially constructed lifeforms. Human being sometimes find out they only have a couple months or a year left to live, and have to come to terms with that. Hell, all of humanity is on a timer - and not once did anyone really say to Vivi, ‘yeah, it’s true for all of us. We could all die at any moment. We’re only going to last so long, whether it’s a year or ten or a hundred.’ Kuja came kind of close to communicating some of this ‘i’m going to die, just like the Black Mages’. But never in a way that emotionally impacted Vivi, which ws kind of shitty writing, imo.
Dagger/Garnet
I don’t know. She’s rather generic. Which... doesn’t necessarily preclude my attachment in of itself. But, yeah, she’s generic in a way that doesn’t resonate with me, heh. She leans super hard on Zidane the whole narrative, and it’s really not even a little fun. There was some interesting stuff with Ramuh, and with Eiko and her being from the same summoner clan, and her relationship with her mother was great as well. I liked that Dagger got to be sad about Brahne - because let her be sad about losing the people who loved her and who she loved. But... Brahne herself is such a conundrum. I don’t dislike her character and her design as a whole. But I don’t like the game’s ‘fat and ugly are evil’ vibes. And I also don’t like the way she’s immediately forgiven in the public eye, and the eyes of the narrative, once she dies. She... literally destroys cities and kills thousands of people. That’s not really forgivable.
But, regarding Garnet... I started liking her a bit more once she cut her hair and started smiling in her in-game portrait. so, if nothing else, we know I am very shallow.
Zidane
Aaaaand, if I wasn’t already, this is where I start really running into problems. When you don’t really like the main character. When you’re not invested in the main character’s romance that is front and centre of the story and its ending. When you really don’t believe the strength of the emotional connections between the cast that the game is attempting to sell you on... It just makes it really hard to enjoy things. Zidane often seems dismissive, in his own head, and even shallow in the way he attempts to relate to the rest of the cast. It’s everyone else that has to come around to his way of thinking and learn from him, rather than the narrative making much of an effort to teach him about how to actually empathise with others. and it’s kind of grating then that we hear them praise him so casually.
I think, then, combined with the womanising aspect of his character... I don’t know, because I’m certainly not opposed to somebody wanting to sleep with all the ladies. That is an A+ relatable feeling. But, for someone that’s so casual about cozying up to every woman he runs across, I was left feeling like the only woman he had any kind of legitimate connection to was Garnet. (The game tells us he’s good friends with Freya, but does it really show us why? or how?) Which is... I suppose why Garnet, and not Ruby and Freya, was propped up as being Zidane’s major romance. But... idk, it feels a little too much like entitlement. He’s allowed to hit on all the ladies and look good while doing it, while he has a serious relationship developing with Dagger and she’s arguably right there to see him hit on other women, and he also has basically no interest in providing any kind of emotional support or developing any kind of connection with pretty much any woman (except maybe Dagger). Combine this with Cid cheating on Hilda and then she jealously turns him into a beetle - but, wait, this is a happy marriage, the game tells us. and the fact that the game’s major villain is pointedly described as ‘not a skirt chaser like you’... it’s just deifying an entitled straight boy ‘boys will be boys’ kind of attitude when that’s already an accepted social norm. and it’s kind of disgusting. I think there are better ways to talk about infidelity and promiscuity and the desire for the ladies, ones that are still sympathetic to all the parties involved. I think the final fantasy series /has/ talked about it better. With Edgar, who wants to get with all the ladies, but who lets Terra and Celes into his protection and the bounty of Figaro castle without touching either of them, and who is pointedly single even though he’s the sole heir of a kingdom and pushing thirty. And with Tidus, who had a power fantasy dream where Yuna and Rikku are hanging off each of his arms as they roast his father, but that’s before he gets to know each of them better as people. once he does the objectification wanes. I’m not saying that Edgar and Tidus are perfect heroes and wonderfully written, but I think this aspect of them was delivered with more nuance and a more critical eye, and it makes a huge difference.
Also... Are you a team player, Zidane? Or are you just a team player until you’re angry, or decide your pride is on the line? For a kind of ‘friendship is everything’ message, it certainly gets muddled everytime Zidane’s in a snit. Running back into Ispen Castle alone was a weird moment when we’re just getting done telling Amarant not to run around alone. Only okay when I do it(tm) And when he’s being kind of an insufferable bastard at the end of disc 3... just... why are you chasing after him guys? and why, after all that hoopla about accepting his friends’ help, does he deny it when going after Kuja at the end? I'm not saying that there aren’t things one needs to do alone just- why is Zidane always right when he says he needs to do things alone, but everyone else is wrong when they say the same thing? it’s a terrible case of protagonist-centred morality, and it’s really terrible and trite.
idk, I just- I understand why people are sick of the angsty final fantasy heroes after Cloud and Squall (the former I love, the latter I don’t). But I feel Zidane basically fell short in every way that wasn’t being upbeat and energetic, and I’m not sure what everyone sees in him.
Kuja
I can’t help but like this flamboyant bastard. God, he... soooo did not need a tacked on redemption arc. Again, mass genocide isn’t really forgivable. He is a terrible person. full stop. But I’m irrationally pleased he got some sympathy from the narrative anyhow. He’s just... I never liked Sephiroth, but Kuja has convinced me I could have liked Sephiroth if Sephiroth had even a fraction of a personality in ff7.
other than that... the wind/earth/water/fire shrine part of the game was weird. give me real dungeons, devs. also the coffee sidequest is nigh impossible to complete and then the game guilted me, and i hate that.
in the end, i suppose i feel the game was messy. the tone whip-lashed quick between whimsy and pure horror - which should be my jam but, idk, it didn’t work here for me. and a lot of the major characters and storylines lacked depth, or otherwise lacked nuance, or otherwise lacked payoff. it’s kind of hard to watch so much effort and so many good ideas flop so hard, but it flopped hard for me. i don’t get the hype about this game.

If you want to truly Provence in a town full of tourists, Draguignan might be the place for you.
All regional brands are here: Rocky hills, vineyards, and olive groves and lying villages. But the town’s isolation from the big sights keeps it off the itineraries of most tourists. And yet the old center is very pretty, with a few old lavoirs and a cluster of interesting museums. Draguignan is also labeled as the Gateway to Verdon, and the life-changing scenery of the Gorges du Verdon is tantalizingly close to the north. Discover the best things to do in Draguignan.
1. Tour de l’Horloge
The square Draguignan clock tower dominates the town on top of a hill. From the start of June to the end of September you can go to the top to contemplate the Provençal countryside, and off in the distance to the south you’ll be able to see the Massif des Maures.
The tower roof has bartizans on all four corners, built when it was rebuilt in the 1660s. In fact, the Tour de lorrorHorloge is the fourth tower standing on this mound: This was originally where the Draguignan Castle was once but the fortress was destroyed three times during conflicts between the 11th and 17th centuries.
2. Musée des Arts et Traditions Populaires
Essential for anyone who loves the countryside of Provence and its lifestyle, this museum will show you humble craftsmen who shaped the landscape and culture for hundreds of years.
On the ground floor, you will have a window on traditional craftsmanship such as cork production, olive growing and wine growing, and see the antique tools of trade placed neatly.
Head upstairs to sample local food and see traditional furniture, costumes, ceramics, and glassware, as well as learn about the region's famous festivals.
3. Musée de l’Artillerie
The French Army artillery school has been based in the Draguignan since the 1970s, and in 1982 opened the museum to reveal 600 years of French artillery history.
The museum was recently given a facelift, and if you’re into the tactics and technology of warfare you’ll be riveted: Having classic weapons, medals, uniforms, artillery shells and large models representing battles is the key to the development of artillery.
Among the high points are a cannon from 1739 and the gun carriage from the 1770s, by Lieutenant General Gribeauval who revolutionized artillery design at the time.
4. Rhone American Cemetery and Memorial
Operation Dragoon was the codename for the invasion of the South of France, which began a couple of months after the Normandy landings. The worst of the U.S. losses occurred in August 1944 during the fighting for the Rhone, and in 1956 on Dragiugnan’s eastern edge this cemetery and monument were completed.
There are 860 stones in more than five hectares, and a guide will take you into the story of some of the soldiers buried here. Pay a visit to the memorial and chapel, which have murals and stonework by Austin M. Purves Jr.
5. Pierre de la Fée
A few minutes outside town this dolphin has introduced into the Bronze Age about 5,000 years ago. The monument is made entirely from local limestone and has an impossibly large slab for a roof, supported by three tall rocks.
Something that sets the Pierre de la Fée apart from most dolmens is the height of the supporting walls, which are all well above two meters so you can go under without stooping.
For a long time, women having trouble getting pregnant will call on Pierre de Fée for its supposed fertility.
6. Parc Chabran
The Draguignan region from Chabran has held French troops for over 100 years. But recently, when the old barracks became obsolete due to the use of the army, they were transformed into luxurious accommodations and the land around them was landscaped and opened to the public.
The three-hectare Chabran Park is home to sophisticated gardens with lawns, flower beds, boardwalks, and polluted trees, making everything more elegant by the ancient barracks houses. to the park. Make time for easy walks and family picnics.
7. Musée Municipal d’Art et Histoire
With six rooms of painting and artifacts, Draguignan’s museum of art and history is compact but certainly merits a look. Entry is free, and there are pieces by Rembrandt, Rubens, and Paul Delaroche.
You can also keep an eye out for Art Nouveau vases, elaborate porcelain from Moustiers and Sèvres, Louis XIV furniture and a gilded wooden platform that will be used during the coronation ceremony of Charles VII in 1429 in Reims.
A high point is the 16th-century armor of François de Montmorency, a Grand Officer of the Crown of France. The site of the museum is also worth mentioning because it was the previous summer residence of Bishop Fréjus.
8. Place du Marché
Something you just need to do in Provence visits a local market, and at Draguignan, there are fortnightly on the Place du Marché in the heart of the old town.
The number of traders varies according to the season, but normally you expect to find 100 stalls packing this square, selling all the products that the region is famous for, like honey, olive oil, and herbs.
9. Chapelle Saint-Hermentaire
A couple of kilometers south of the center is a location that has a lot to do with Draguignan’s origin story. According to legend, this is where St Hermentaire killed the dragon that had been terrorizing the Carolingian community in the dark ages.
The small church standing here has existed in one form or another since the 6th century, while the current architecture dates back to about the 1000s. All built on top of a Gallo-Roman-style mansion and bathroom that can stand here from the 1st century BC to the 200s.
10. Malmont Table d’Orientation
Malmont is a limestone peak cresting at 551 meters, eight kilometers north of Draguignan. It is in the Pyrénéo-Provençale chain and is a natural balcony with a beautiful view that extends to all corners of the area.
There’s so much to see from the top that you have an orientation table marking all of the landmarks, both natural and man-made, that are visible on a clear day.

So. I play the game a little differently than everyone else (it seems). I LOVE the artistic design of the game, especially with the outfits, clothing options, dye options, and all the various combinations. Rather than going efficiency though, I always equip myself with whatever I think looks great and change my playstyle around that. I've have spent more hours than I care to admit dyeing different variations and options. As a result, I've put together my top 19 combinations (and some extras); click on the names for an Imgur gallery. And if you'd like to submit your own ideas please include screenshots and pictures. Here we go :)The PaladinThe Hoods color matches the armour's trimming and hopefully brings it all together. Paired with a Knight's Shield and Red pommel of the Knight's Sword (to match the crest on your armour) and you're good to go. Good for some classic righteous Knight-ing. Also, dye the armour crimson red and swap out the Hood for a Diamond Circlet for royal, princely look.Head: Hylian Hood (Light Yellow)Body: Soldier's Armor (Blue)Legs: Soldier's Greaves (Blue)Equipment: Knight's Sword + Knight's Shield[Alternative: The Royal Knight with a Diamond Circlet and Crimson Armor and Greaves)RoninA wandering Samurai of sorts, I love the look of this but remember: no shields. Coupled with a Ruby Circlet gives this a Conan the Barbarian-esque look. Grab a two hander and off you go with this all-or-nothing, battle-in-your-face, who-needs-a-plan class that practical speaks for itself.Head: Ruby CircletBody: Barbarian Armor (Light Blue)Legs: Snow Boots (Brown)Equipment: Claymore / Double Axe / Traveller's Sword + ShieldRangerProbably my longest used outfit (hence all the pictures). I love how this looks worn and practical but still very cool. No fancy bows, though - Rangers are hunters, survivalists and scavengers; their weapons are often of their own making and more often than not wood. They favour Quick Draw bows and use them even in close range combat. No metal, no shields or sword. They stay light, move quietly and fight from a distance with planning and strategy.Head: Hylian Hood (Brown)Body: Hylian Tunic (Brown)Legs: Hylian Trousers (Navy Blue)Equipment: Deku Bow, Wooden BowEx. KnightMy favourite outfit in the game; a retired, veteran knight. The white and blacks might seem pretty simple at first but with the bright blues of the Knight's Sword's scabbard and the Hylian Shield, it all comes together (along with the red highlights in the shield and on his vest). Very cool look, and high defensive rating as well. Tiny climbing boost to boot. An all rounder gear of a last knight in a world without knights. (Threw in some other color variations as well!)Head: Amber EarringsBody: Climbing Gear (White)Legs: Soldier's Greaves (Black)Equipment: Knight's Sword + Hylian ShieldDragoonInspired by the famous Final Fantasy series' class, Dragoons are elite soldiers with very distinct armour sets and who specialize in spears, lances and polearms and a piercing style of combat. Dragoons also benefit from slight lightning resistances and increased swimming speed, though they don't wield bows/arrows. The various colors represent the various brigades who each favour a particular kind of pole arm that (wouldn't you know) matches their outfit...Head: Rubber Helm (Light Blue)Body: Zora Armor (Light Blue)Legs: Soldier's Greaves (Black)Equipment: Spears, PolearmsGhibli HeroOne part a reference to Prince Ashitaka (from Princess Mononoke, one of the game's inspirations and references), one part civilian clothes. The blue in the shirt matches Link's eyes and offsets his hair nicely; it just oozes Ghibli. This has always been my go-to town-wear and the quiet white, blue and blonde seems to come right out of the hands of Miyazaki and his 3-color approach to simple, memorable character designs.Head: NothingBody: Old Shirt (Blue)Legs: Hylian Trousers (White)Equipment: None, Wooden BowOnion KnightA stoic (if somewhat bumbling) knight who's heart is in the right place but trouble seems to find him as often as adventure. He's not shy about using his patented retreat strategy (sprinting and screaming) but when he stands to fight, it's often for a noble cause. Unfortunately, we can't change the color of the Flamebreaker Helm's main components so I went with brown to draw everything together. An alternate version with a Brown Soldier's Armor also works, although it tends to slim him up a bit when I look him more Seignmeyer and...oniony.Head: Flamebreaker Helm (Brown)Body: Flamebreaker Armor (Brown)Legs: Trousers of the Wild (Brown)Equipment: Cobble Crusher, Boulder Breaker, Spring Loaded HammerBokoblin EnthusiastHead: Bokoblin MaskBody: Climbing Gear (Red)Legs: Trousers of the Wild (Red)Equipment: Bokoblin weaponsUndercover LizalfosHead: Lizalfos MaskBody: Radiant Shirt (Green)Legs: Radiant Tights (Green)Equipment: Lizalfos weaponsMoblitHead: Moblin MaskBody: Climbing Gear (Blue)Legs: Barbarian Leggings (Light Blue)Equipment: Moblin weaponsKing of the WildHead: Lynel MaskBody: Barbarian Armor (Purple)Legs: Snow Boots (White)Equipment: Lynel Weapons, FiercenessTime TravellerA lost time jumper who looks like he's straight out of an 80's movie and I wouldn't have it any other way.Head: Topaz EarringsBody: Rubber Amor (White)Legs: Rubber Tights (Blue)Equipment: Ancient Weapons, Guardian WeaponsBlue Tunic (Link to the Past)You know it. I didn't expect it to work so well but, surprisingly, these colors work together really nicely (though the red tunic colors don't translate quite so well.) Once I decided to give this a try, I haven't really gone back: I love the look. No Hylian Shield here; the Gerudo Shield (instead) looks closest to the kind of art design in the shields of that game and the Feathered Edge is short, wide and squat enough to make the outfit really feel like it should.Head: Cap of the Wild (Light Yellow)Body: Tunic of the Wild (Blue)Legs: Trousers of the Wild (Light Yellow)Equipment: Feathered Edge, Gerudo ShieldShinobiOne of my favourite looks; the Demon Carver rims the Soldier's Shield near perfectly and all the colors match a deep midnight and gray look that I just love. I never tire of unsheathing these weapons; the way Link just pulls apart what looks like a contraception into distinct weapons is just so cool. Plus, it's a Ninja in modern sneakers with a Tron vibe; what's not to love?Head: Stealth Mask (Navy Blue)Body: Rubber Armor (Navy Blue)Legs: Rubber Tights (Navy Blue)Equipment: Demon Carver, Soldier's ShieldThe Night's WatchRight out of Game of Thrones (warning: heavy GoT spoilers). And, like the men of the Night's Watch, they are underfunded, under equipped and overwhelmed. Weak bows, no shields, and very low defence on the outfit. Even the Warm Doublet isn't enough to stand the colds North of North. Luckily, our Hero here is Azor Ahai reborn, and his great flaming sword not only fells most cold enemies in one blow, but helps to warm him when things get really bad. This is a risky outfit that makes the world dangerous (your weapon is also what's stopping the cold from consuming you) and as the white walkers close in around you, all you've left to fend them off is a burning sword and the knowledge that you are the shield that guards the realm of men...Head: Hylian Hood (Black)Body: Warm Doublet (Black)Legs: Snow Boots (Black)Equipment: Flamesblade, Wooden Bow/Soldier's BowOne Punch HeroI don't think I need to explain this one. A red Zora Helm probably works better as a cap but the Ancient helm just feels more official. I tried a variety of spears to try and get that flag look and, in the end, decided the stem of the Guardian Axe just worked. Plus it matched the helm. I love this outfit because it gives me the urge to just start hand people anything and everything. And sprint. Lots of sprinting.Head: Ancient Helm (Red)Body: Climbing Gear (White)Legs: Trousers of the Wild (White)Equipment: Guardian Axe ++IcarusOr Hermes, if you like; you'll get the look I was going for when you see it.
