Me trying to draw but the cookie run kingdom and deltarune bad bitches on tumblr with their fanart are reminding me that my art is shit

He has so many hilarious and adorable expressions and I love him so much but him of all the characters I manage to totally suck at drawing :(

First time drawing with oil pastels, I think they look pretty decent if I do say so myself :D

at this point im surprised i can get anything out of these sketches

my 3 step process.

draw thumnails on paper (these are even less legible)

draw a cleaner scetch (i use sketchbook on my tablet, but sometimes do it in CSP on my computer straight away)

go into CSP liquify & redline what i left out

then go into doing the lineart straight away

(*suffer* -this is not optional if the previous steps are followed)

flats (messy)

light & shadow (messy)

render until good

Hey nightjar, how do I learn to draw like you? I'm pretty much starting from scratch but I've always wanted to learn to really draw

Hi there!

The most important thing is to draw and sketch a lot, carry a sketchbook with you everywhere if possible. Sketch away all kind of ideas and feelings.

Don't be afraid to use references, they teach you a lot and give you the right perspective on things.

Find artists whose style you like and browse different kinds of art to get inspired.

Try different kind of medias and art styles to find what suits you best.

Check for tutorials for example on Youtube. I've found that watching other artists' way of working and processes teach me a lot and give me new ideas how to work with my own drawings.
