This is so incredibly nice! I’ve been having such a blast writing Weekend Warriors, and everyone guessing what the letters are or what happens next has made it one of the best WIP experiences ever! I’m so excited about how much people are enjoying it!! 

Desire wanted to be told so badly I wrote the entire thing in around twenty-four hours, and I hope it’s as much fun to read as it was to write! 

I’m so glad I’m making this hiatus a little more bearable! It has lasted approximately forever! But there are lots of great authors keeping us going so I won’t claim I’m doing anything by myself ;-) (I greatly appreciate the compliment!) 

Some of the recent FitzSimmons fics I recommend (my comments in italics): 

Not Quite Ruined by @libbyweasley (E, 16K)  Miss Jemma Simmons is looking for someone to ruin her so her mother will stop trying to arrange a suitable marriage. She decides Fitz, who is actually working for Coulson and is undercover as the captain of The Shield, is the one she wants to ravish her. He says no...but Jemma can be very convincing. Completely wonderful Jemma and trying to be a gentleman Fitz with a great and satisfying ending! 

A Season Away by @robotgort (M, 56K)  Newly-minted archeologist Jemma Simmons dreams of joining a dig in Egypt, but no one is willing to take a chance on her until Melinda May arrives with a proposition and a strange map. Leo Fitz is too busy celebrating his luck at landing the head archeologist position on an Egyptian expedition to wonder why Phil Coulson would want to dig in the middle of nowhere. Now the race is on to uncover the mystery buried in the desert before it falls into the wrong hands, all while Fitz and Jemma discover just how well they fit together. I just beta’d the last chapter of this and I don’t want it to end. Gort is an amazingly talented writer and the plot in this blows me away. It’s sweet, exciting, and there’s plenty of fun!

Pool Party by @agentofship (E, 5.6K)  When Jemma agreed to go away for the week-end to get over her crush on her best friend, she didn't expect to come along. And she didn't expect churros would be the reason for them finally having a conversation about their relationship. A FitzSimmons Academy Era AU done for the kink bingo square: "location: a swimming pool". This fic is SO MUCH FUN. AgentofShip skillfully blends canon, fanon, and even bits of real life. I love it! 

Spark Into a Flame by @blancasplayground (M, 3.8K)  After leaving S.H.I.E.L.D. behind, FitzSimmons get pulled into one more field mission and wind up getting trapped in a cottage in the middle of a snowstorm. Whatever will they do? This is the warmest fic, and everything FS deserve. 

my soul has a home (& it's your heart) by @apathbacktoyou (T, 1.4K)  Jemma finds the notion of someone completing her pretty silly. That is, of course, until she meets Fitz. This is the perfect soulmate au! And I happy cry every time I read it!

AOS Positivity

I really can’t say enough good things about the Agents of SHIELD fandom. You were welcoming when I joined in season 2. You’ve loved my stories and fanart more than I ever could have hoped for. You’ve been a force of positivity in some pretty dark times I’ve had, and even when the show has lost me the fandom has had me coming back for more. 

You’re the true MVPs. All of you. I wish I could give you all a hug or a cookie or a wish come true. 

I’ve never had a fandom experience like I’ve had with AOS. I’ve always been more on the fringes of things. More of a watcher than a do-er. It really is all of the love and support and enthusiasm that you show so freely that took me out of my shy little corner and made me think, “Maybe *I* can do this, too!” I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way. 

I’m going to try to remember as many of you as I can, but if I forget your name, please know that I still appreciate you so much!

I’m pretty terrible at keeping track of my recs ngl, but here goes.

PS - I’ve also narrowed it down to ones that focus on their relationship, though I also tend to read and write a LOT about one or the other of them as a focus with each other or the team and so forth.

Top 5(ish, it counts right?) by other people

Meet Cute: A Team Engineering Writing Project - Fitz and Simmons are actors playing ‘themselves’ on a TV series where basically, each week they get together in a different scenario. I thought it was very creative, a lot of fun, and an excellent example of how fab fandom can be. What a great collab!!

Splinter by @msdevindanielle - Set during early S2 this weaves together some of FS’s angstiest times with Academy bonding and idk I just really liked how it got at the depth of their friendship and what they had lost, but it’s quite hopeful in the end. I also liked the style, just how it was written. I read this one ages back so sorry if I’m being vague but it comes to mind every time I’m asked for a FitzSimmons rec so it must be good.

and here’s where I devolve into straight-up shameless cheating because I’m more of a “lots of short fics” kind of gal so while many of them SLAY me it’s hard to keep track of them all!! some of my (many!) fave authors for FS are @agentverbivore (if you’re into that ‘completed multichaps’ kinda thing, or multichaps in general), @the-nerdy-stjarna (SO MUCH CONTENT if you want a particular trope or a mood or oneshot or multichap or whatever Sanna has it. probably has 5 of it. honestly I can’t keep up with all the FS goodness she produces but goodness it is!!), and @agentcalliope, who also writes a lot of platonic goodness but that’s a whole OTHER shameless pile of author recs :P which reminds me she’s just published a new one, I should get onto that!

Top 5 by me (if I do say so myself)

Love is Not an Eight Letter Word - set during the S3/4 hiatus, Jemma realises she is aromantic and comes out to Fitz, and their relationship adjusts. This was a really meaningful fic to write and has got some absolutely beautiful feedback, particularly from people who ID as aro and/or headcanon Jemma as such.

What We Make - set after S4, before/ignoring S5, FitzSimmons are spending some time at the Simmons’ family estate to recover from their hard year. It’s hurt/comforty and fluffy and I really enjoyed writing it after what was a particularly brutal season for these two, especially Fitz.

(Let Me Stand) Next To Your Fire - This one has been a challenge in terms of the logistics, and I put a lot of thought into it, but I did that because I love the concept but wanted to make sure it was handled well. Jemma experiences a bizarre magic/science accident that leaves her blind and in these first chapters she comes to terms with the aftermath of the attack and her blindness itself. Moving forward I’ll continue to explore her adjusting to life blind, and also the ramifications of the attack on her health and potential powers (dun dun DUNN)

Spearmint - short, sweet, and underrated this is a fluffy fic again set at the end of S4, but reflecting on the Academy era and their early relationship; a story of FitzSimmons through three spearmint milkshakes. also features a lowkey appearance of trans!Fitz which is a headcanon I love very much <3

Running Up That Hill - one of my first FS fics, and first AOS fics, but still quite good and I’m quite proud of it. It has a special place in my heart even though it doesn’t get a lot of attention these days. 1x22/S2 Role Reversal.

Hey! You mentioned that the Multi-Verse theory took a hit yesterday. Can you expand on that a little bit? Lovveee your metas!!

So the theory I’ve been working with for a bit as a way for AOS to avoid the fall out of Infinity war is that Deke was correct in they were working within the Multi Verse and that when the team broke the loop, that would shift them into a new timeline and protect them all.   This would have allowed for them to return next season, before Avengers 4 came out and not have to either go most of the season without some of the team or just viciously pretend Infinity War didn’t happen.  

AOS’s summer return now makes it so they don’t have to go through Season 6 missing anyone.  Because they can:

Have AOS fade to black before The Snap, give us a moderately happy ending, and then return after the Avengers fix everything.  

Murder half the fandom with feels, let us see who falls victim to the snap, but then they are back early in the Season 6 Premiere because the Avengers will have fixed it.  

Either of those options will allow them to remain in the same world/timeline as the rest of the MCU and continue with the varying degrees of tie ins that there have been over the years.  

So that was why it took a hit for me.   They are clearly showing us that the events of the last few episodes are running right along side what is going on with Infinity War and its another ticking clock all going on in our heads as our own story unfolds.  

It’s not totally dead and is in play, now its just a matter of seeing how the writers chose to wrap up the season.

he was the guy who did Twin Peaks as well a ton of movies, including Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, and Eraserhead. His daughter has also directed before for Psych, Jessica Jones, and The Walking Dead.
