this is for my chapter 5 au... I tried to compose a toxic doomed yaoi saiouma essay in the tags just now but it went over the tag limit (mortifying) so I'm just going to paste it under the cut!!

#look.. in my mind there is no world where shuichi truly comes around on kokichi #but there is TOTALLY a world where he feels eternally fucked up and guilty about assisting in his suicide #and cant bring himself to hate anymore #cant bring himself to reject the casual but blatantly self-indulgent touches of the boy hes about to murder in the most excruciating way possible #just let him have his fun #let him squeeze your shoulder a little too long #its the least you can do when hes about to let his entire body be turned into an unrecognizable puddle of gore #you dont have to pretend you like it. he KNOWS you dont like it. just let it happen & soon enough itll be over and youll never have to see him again #youll never be *able* to see him again. nothing left of him to even call a body #fucking unidentifiable #god. #(to be clear i dont approve of that logic at all but i sure think shuichi would feel that way)

#its like oumota but worse because (to me) shuu has completely written him off by ch5 and doesnt even need the poison blackmailing to agree #its shuichis low point after all hes fully suicidal and thinks kokichi is the mastermind who destroyed humanity's last hope #he doesnt have time to recalculate his opinion before its too late #he agrees almost immediately #but the closer it gets the less he can justify it #like god this guy fills me with rage and we would never ever in a million years get along but hes also a warm breathing human being #and hes in love with me or something and i just agreed to kill him. EAGERLY! #to his FUCKING FACE #yes i openly hated him already. and yes he didnt even blink when i told him i could kill him #if anything he looked happy! #but god how could i just say that to someone? how did it get this bad? #and how is he still giving me finger hearts through the camera while we test out angles for his fucking DEATH VIDEO #maybe just maybe its because he really thinks this will save us. but maybe he just wants to die #and i dont even know if that makes a difference anymore #et cetera……..

#meeting the same fate as kaede because he THOUGHT he was agreeing to kill the mastermind #when in reality it was really just a cagey guy who was trying to do the EXACT same thing and made the mistake of going it alone #and now that guy who couldve been his ally is dead and he has to pretend hes ok and lie to his friends to derail this trial #for this stupid idiotic plan he let himself get blindly swept up in #that was never going to work in the first place #he knew it was full of holes he knew ouma was full of shit #he knew himself he knew he'd buckle under the pressure of the trial #but he didnt say a thing #it was so much easier to go with it. he just wanted it to be fucking over with #well its not over. the game continues and kokichi is dead and for what #didnt lift a fucking finger #fucking idiot coward bottom of the barrel piece of shit. Hey guys, guess what? (Post-game) MAGICAL GIRL AU UPON YA!!!!!!!

This is still a wip and I was struggling so much with Shuichi's design but look at them!!!!!

I honestly don't have much experience with watching magical girl animes other than PPGZ and Flowering heart i think? This AU might be more influenced by MLB though tbh lol. but the idea of Himiko as an actual magical girl popped in my head while writing for another au I have and kaboom, here we are

Oh, additional information for funsies, I haven't gotten around to designing it yet but for Maki's weapon, I'm torn between a crossbow or knives, and for Shuichi he gets a gun! (Hell yeah.) If you guys have other ideas tho feel free to tell me!

I rewatched drv3 and I want to say that I don't dislike Saiouma nor Shuichi at all, -quite the opposite, really!!- but I hate that the basis for it seems to be the mistranslation of Kokichi deeming Shuichi "trustworthy" when in the og game he labels him with "stay catious", which is the OPPOSITE of trustworthy.

Of course he'd be suspicious of a detective being put into a murder mystery killing game, he thought Shuichi was the mastermind! It's such a turn off whenever the "trustworthy" thing is mentioned in fics because it doesn't make any sense: It's not like they had many positive interactions together that would justify Shuichi somehow being trustworthy- at best there's the time Shuichi bandaged Kokichi's finger (basing it all on that would be too emotion driven for someone as logical as Kokichi), at worst there's when Shuichi left Kokichi's concussed ahh to wobble off screen.

(Unrelated, but why do people write Kokichi SOLELY thinking of Shuichi on his deathbed, rather than DICE? He suspects DICE isn't real but in his mind that's his family and always has been. People idly mention Gonta too occasionally, but aside from the guilt of getting him killed, Kokichi would think of Gonta more, bc they were actually friends and were often seen hanging out.)

Also the way Kokichi's arc ends with Shuichi deciding there was nothing to Kokichi but lies hurt sm like WDYM? Kaito may have omitted some things, but he still spelled the answer out for you, detective. (He figures it out later when going into Kokichi's room though so it's not a big deal but STILL💔💔)

I just wish saiouma fics weren't so centered on, well... A lie. There's still plenty of ways to develop them together, even without the trustworthy label! I like their ship, to an extent, and I believe it can be done well while staying true to the og game, but so many things about them seem to be taken at face value rather than truly analyzed. Their dynamic would be more interesting if it stayed true to them, and if both of their flaws were acknowledged, as well as the mind games there could be with Kokichi suspecting Shuichi.

Crazy how the localization also fucked up Kokichi's relationship with Kaito (for example, in ch 2 in the og Kaito tells Maki to let Kokichi go or he'll die, while in the english ver he tells her to let him go or she'll die; end of ch 5, og Kaito says "He was a liar to the core", rather than "he was a lying sack of shit" ) and Gonta (in the og it was more clear Gonta and Kokichi were scheming together in ch2, and that Gonta knew about the true purpose of the insect meet and greet; in general, Gonta is portayed in the english ver as a dumb caveman and I wish people wrote him by just making him talk formally but in the third person like he does in japanese, because it takes away from his character- and, by extension, Kokichi's)

I've read SO much fanfiction in this fandom, and the probability of me finding something that addresses the canon dynamics rather than the localization ones is lower than the chance of a meteorite coming to kill me on my birthday. What a shame.

I still love most things this fandom makes, so I guess this -the trustworthy thing- is just a pet peeve of mine.

Please please please please, BEGGING AND WAILING read this fanfiction by DoctorHaifisch on Ao3, it's SOOOO GOOD !! 😭 Words cannot describe what did I just experienced while reading the whole thing but I can surely say that it made it to my favorite fic top.

First of I was just immediatly enthralled by how well Kokichi was characterized (I'm a simple woman, I see good Kokichi content, I click).

But then I quickly realised everyone else was super well written ? Even Kaito who's a character at the very beggining of my Danganronpa V3 journey I didn't really like at all because idk I guess I couldn't see clear through him and I would just label him as the hothead guy with a hero complex...

But omg with this fic you opened my eyes and unraveled something in my brain, even if it sounds dumb I think I never realised before the potential Kokichi/Kaito had together and the undeniable bound there must be between these two after what they experienced in the hangar in Chap. 5.

So just for that, thank you for making me appreciate and love Kaito where the game apparently couldn't and thank you for making me love Kokichi even more if that was even possible.

Now these two purple guys are very very dear to me and I want them and their classmates to have their happy ending after all they've endured 🥹

As for the art here, I had to redraw that beautiful art piece the author made for Chap. 20 because I'm a sucker for angsty stuff and also I was captured by how emotional and impactful it was displaying the sheer horror Kokichi experienced at some point of that chapter.

I'll definitively make more art for this fanfiction later, the only reason I've never done that before being that I didn't like how I drew Kaito but now I think I got a design I'm happy with, so be warned there will be content >:)

Lore/Art dump for my postcanon Kiiruma AU

Because I don't think I have it in me to write actual fic for this at the moment so just picture it with me ok?? I call it Anhedonia and it's Miu centric!

Basically, everyone's data is recovered from the NWP and Shuichi & co use it to simulate Miu, thinking she can help them rebuild Kiibo. She agrees under the condition that she builds her own body first so they can't throw her out after (which they were kinda considering ngl).

Once in her new body, she realizes she doesn't have her constant stream of ideas anymore and it really freaks her out. She starts spending all her time trying to recreate her perfect goddess body (because she believes it housed all her talent — but also fueled by a disastrous attempt to seduce Shuichi). Since her self image is completely unstable, she’s stuck making a never ending series of robot models, each one a more distorted caricature of herself than the last.

Of course she’s too busy doing this to design a new body for Alter Ego Kiibo, so she just sticks his AI inside one of her older models. But now she can’t really stand to be around him anymore, since looking at his temporary Miu body just triggers her own obsessive dysmorphia. She’s also starting to resent her existence as a robot in ways that Kiibo really doesn’t appreciate. 

The bodies are named MIU3.0, MIU3.1, etc. because Miu considers this the 3rd incarnation of herself. The first died in a car crash, and the second died in Danganronpa. 

Kiibo is also on his third life; his first self died after hurting Iidabashi, and his second self died after destroying the school — which starts to make him wonder if the world is just better off without him, since it seems that in each life he’s doomed to snap and destroy himself along with everyone he loves.

Not to mention he now has to share his Ultimate title with someone who's actually very knowledgeable and accomplished... and who won't look him in the eye anymore.

So...... basically it’s a huge trainwreck!
