Many considered Booster Gold a fool. He laughed off everything, often causing as many problems as he solved, and treated the hero game far more flippantly than many were comfortable with.

What they didn't see was the scars, the slight flinching every time one of the Flashes collapsed after overdoing it or forgetting to eat, and the nightmares.

They didn't know what he had risked time itself to run from.

They didn't know about Phantom.
