I've started reading a niche little manga called "Delicious in Dungeon". You've probably never heard of it though

I could. Not restrain myself one episode of dunmeshi anime and I am now reading the manga and wow I love thee guys so much. They’re so silly and like. They are petty and squabble and argue with each other all the time ( at least so far I’m on chapter 13)but I’ve never felt like they don’t like each other, they’ve always felt kind and like good people who love each other and whom I love too. I love u dunmeshi guys….. and Laois’s sword friend is cute and he’s cute they’re all very sweet.

I really don’t like pretty much all fantasy anime or fantasy in this style EVER so I think dunmeshi does a really good job of it and makes me understand why ppl like it !!!

Looks like we have about five more episodes until the best character of Dungeon Meshi joins the team. Are you looking forward to seeing the girl?

UH DUH I’VE BEEN COUNTING DOWN THE HOURS. AND OH YAY AN OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT MY DUNMESHI PACING THEORY!!!!!!!

OK SO episode 12 ended where volume 4 did, so im gonna go ahead and pace out what I think is gonna be the next two volumes (5 and 6)

gonna put it under the cut for the anime onlies cause SPOILERS!!!!!!!!

Episode 13: Chapters 29 and 30, these two pair pretty well together, high action first half and a more quiet gathering of what we know second half

Episode 14: Chapters 31 and 32, this is Sea Serpent 1 and 2, so it makes sense for them to be paired up. also FIRST IZU APPEARANCE!

Episode 15: Chapters 33 and 34, back to classic monster vignettes for a spell, while the party gets back in order after losing falin (very excited to see senshi’s “I MUST FEED THE CHILDREN” be animated. now normally I would think to pair dryad, cockatrice, and cleaners together HOWEVER—

Episode 16: Chapters 35 and 36, this is the episode where all the parties comes together and they hash it out. I think this theory is very likely seeing how 36 ends with a falin cliffhanger. This is also where Izutsumi gets her first line!!!

Episode 17: Chapters 37 and 38, THE BIG CHIMERA REVEAL!!!! these are also two action heavy chapters like how the red dragon action episode was, so it would make for a solid episode.

Episode 18: Chapters 39 and 40, the shapeshifter chapters!! Again a part 1 and 2, and ends with Izutsumi!!!! I do wonder if they’ll kinda condense the shapeshifter shenanigans and add chapter 41 in there too since that one’s relatively short, but we’ll see!!!!!!!!

After that my theories kinda fizzle out cause “ice golem” and “barometz” are two Izu focused chapters back to back so I’m curious how they’ll do those! But yea I’ve been adoring the pacing so far it’s SO GOOD. SO TO REVIEW!!! Izutsumi!! Appearing in 14, first line in 16, and the BIG REVEAL in either 18 or 19!! I’M SO CURIOUS TO HEAR WHAT SHE SOUNDS LIKE!!!!!!!!!!!! my money’s on either sullen teen girl voice, or peridot SU.

rereading chapter 13 for... reasons (it and its anime adaption in episode 6 are some of my favorite dunmeshi things to ever be made) and thinking about various things, but like, one thing that stands out to me now that i've finished the manga...

marcille wakes the others up in alarm bc chilchuck hasn't returned (which, great bit of character exploration, chilchuck didn't trust her to do this), but like... look at laios.

pressed for time and in his night clothes, he couldn't put his whole suit of armor back on. but he prioritized his gorget. and when you're early on in the story, that seems a little nonsensical.

fast forward to chapter 64... (manga readers know exactly where i'm going with this)

dungeon rabbits are such an Unknown Enemy, and also a big part of why laios has the armor he does. do you suppose, with chilchuck missing for unknown reasons, that a tired laios decided protecting his neck was more important than anything else? and they were still high up enough that marcille wasn't their only means of resurrection.

I don’t write 100% crossovers (as in, two continuities mixing) but obscure fusions (placing characters/details from one continuity into the setting/plot of another) are somewhat my brand, especially in TLT. No, but that’s something I’d love to have done or try doing myself. I think my Spanish and French are just about good enough that I could translate a present-tense fic (my past tense is a lil shaky) and I would love that as a project.

Impossible to judge. Perhaps the Mary Celeste. I like a bit of mystery.

15.) What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I have several jossed wwdits fics that would have been so fun if i’d got them out before certain events. But now, I just don’t think they have the same vibe. Like, you could still enjoy them, but because we know what happens next, it kinda detracts from the overall experience.

16.) What are your writing strengths?

I’m pretty good at aping someone else’s style, I try to maintain strong character voices, I’m funny and people tend to like the ideas I have.

17.) What are your writing weaknesses?

If I’m tired of a fic (not necessarily of the fic itself, but of writing it) I often do the bare minimum. Fuck you (marry me) strikes me as an example. People seemed to really like that fic and there were only one or two chapters left, but I had very little motivation to write. The final chapter was written essentially by pushing through until I’d finished it, and certain things I’d tried hard to do in the beginning (e.g. give harrow’s narration a very distinct and obvious voice) fell by the wayside in favour of getting it over with. https://archiveofourown.org/works/50096647

I also often publish barely edited fic for the same reason.

18.) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?

Like it, will do it depending on POV. If the perspective character understands the language, i might write it in English for ease of comprehension. If they don’t, i might write it as is. I would usually put translations in the notes, but I don’t think I’ve actually had occasion to do it so far.

19.) First fandom you wrote for?

On AO3, Be More Chill in 2018. I will not link that, I refuse. (It’s on my page, but it’s archive locked.) In life, i think i was writing self-insert discworld fanfiction around the age of nine or ten.

20.) Favorite fic you've written?

In terms of execution, I think part of everything alive again. https://archiveofourown.org/works/48395794 It was the first time I’d ever written something as part of an event, and the first time I ever got art for my fic - how gorgeous is it, by the way??? I wrote it all without external input (I normally publish at least somewhat as I go, but for BRE, we posted it all at once on one day) and I am so proud of myself for getting it done to a level I’m proud of. But not very many people read it, I think partly because it’s a chunky beast to try and get through all at once. So when it comes to the reader response, I’d say my melini cultural history museum series https://archiveofourown.org/series/4190293. So many people have commented on that and for such short pieces, it’s a lot of positive feedback relative to the effort I put into them. But besides my shameful 2018/19 fic, I honestly love everything I’ve put on ao3.

Using Zalgo/distorted text in my fics for dreams and such!! It was really fun and I enjoyed!!

Writing for Love and Deepspace finally let me embrace writing in Second Person POV / X Reader! I've been a reader for so long it was great to finally write!

21. What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story?

Uh I fly by the seat of my pants so all the time the characters are fighting me and changing things up constantly lol even with one shots!

22. What writing programs did you use? Did you write by hand?

I hate writing by hand but will do it when I can't have technology. I use Zoho Writer at work, been playing around with Reedsy to format books for bookbinding, but mostly use Google Docs especially with the new Tabs feature to organize multich!!

23. If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year?

Inkpot Gods - Neuvillette/Furina, NeuviFuri, Genshin Impact - Got to indulge in my otome timetravel bullshit and some spite!!

24. Did you do anything special to celebrate finishing a fic?

Not for individual fics but when I reach certain milestones I get myself a little cake!!

25. How did you recharge between fics?

I play video games!!

26. Did you create fanworks other than fic?

Not yet! I mean I make Sims, Canva graphics, and Pinterest boards for them. I want to make fannish ambiences like Rafayel painting with you with brush stroke and wave sounds, Vash cleaning his guns with desert winds, or sitting in a tree with Venti and rustling leaves or something! I'd also like to make some AMVs

27. How many events did you take part in? (bangs, exchanges, ship weeks, zines, prompt memes, they all count!)

Uhhh 3-4? Exchanges I think, 1 Prompt, 3-5 ship weeks?? Off the top of my head.

@missgreenkitty @katthepq @vriddy for beta-ing, letting me know of events, and listening/encouraging my bullshit and ideas/theory crafting

29. What's left on your to-do list for 2024?

Lord... uhhh I want to get out a holiday fic, finish the LaDS multichapter, maybe some others....

30. What would you like to write next year?

I still want to write for Hazbin Hotel with X Reader fics, get out some multichapters that I've had ideas for years on, and finish the damn Fantasy Enho fic.
