I'd love if my data could stop giving me roadblocks plz thanks. It's not even expected roadblocks. If the machine broke, that would be an expected roadblock. When people offhandedly tell me "oh yeah, wt% amounts of major elements in a mineral blow out the sensors" once I get my data back, that's not an expected roadblock.

How the fuck am I supposed to both verify the mineral and get the ppm values for minerals that look the same under backscatter? Should I just tell the Microprobe guy to adjust the time for the minor elements 3x as high even though it'll take longer, even though that isn't academic standard...?

Besides doing the above, the most sane method I can think of is 'make a map of the mineral'; but doing that on the 1mm scale is really hard and still won't really work. I could probably make an EDS backscatter image map, but the difference in density for these minerals is so small as to be negligible on greyscale.

The other most sane thing to do would be display both ICP-MS results and Microprobe results, not even compare them, and just say "this is what we got, deal with it". Which I think is valid in this situation, tbh. Rather than try to say one or the other is better, just display both and potentially graph both and point out the comparison of the two is beyond this scope of work but will be covered in (future publication).

It's frustrating, because one of the complaints we got from the reviewer was "if you have minerals on the micro scale, display all ppm data from all minerals at the micro scale." Which I agree with. We should be doing that if we're attempting to correlate results from all sulfides in a given area. But if I can't ID what I'm shooting because it blows out the sensors- I could be shooting a mooihoekite or a chalcopyrite; who the fuck knows. *irritated italian hand gestures*

Additionally, I just realized I have to go back and reshoot half of the samples if we do decide to make the probe time longer even though they're polished down to numbs that will never fit in the probe again and now I want to kick this project out the window.
