Quick reminder for engiespy shippers

Dell’s got an eye for art, so I can definitely see early on in their interactions: Engie in Spy’s smoking room, complimenting the new art piece he got, and while Engie’s going on a little bit about the artist, Spy is a bit awestruck as his predisposition of the engineer as a “typical hillbilly” is shattered (also thankful someone else on the team seems to have some taste)
#God I wish I could turn this ship into a liquid and chug it#How do I inject EngieSpy into my blood stream?#tf2#team fortress 2#tf2 spy#tf2 engineer#engiespy#napoleon complex#practical espionage#tf2 headcanons

still Losing my mind over Harlan playing my game on his birthday spooky stream yesterday not once but TWICE….so here’s a compilation of some behind the scenes and concept art I had for my Malevolent inspired game, D.S al Fine for those that were interested:
yapping alert because this project is my child

First, for the audio enjoyers, I found some old unedited versions of my improv sessions on the piano! with these I cut into and created the ambience for the game as well as the ending track.
some Faroe sadness that didn't make it in fully (also the beginning sounds incredibly like Kayne's motif from wager is that just me???):

this was my first concept art I think! I was insanely hyper when I got the idea to conceptualize a malevolent game, it was like 3am, and I knew at its basis I wanted it to explore what happens right before the show originally starts because I was still a relatively new fan at the time and the ambiguity was incredibly interesting to me
originally I had the plan to make an animation of that, the fingers going into the eye sockets, but unfortunately to execute it im not skilled of an animator yet for the time I had…
early (June 2024) version of the office
yes the office took basically my entire 2024 summer break from college (may-august) because I simply could not stop adding details
along with the king in yellow I actually modeled the piano myself too :) hell of a learning curve
the way I felt my spirit ascend to another plane when I realized Lester pianos exist by the way
a glimpse into my insane note taking/concept method

of course I've been an artist first my whole life so I'm very visuals/atmosphere first, mechanics and motives later kind of game designer
ominous wip of arthur's piano room
kiy concept art. when in doubt take a screenshot of your game and draw over it if you need to 3D model for the first time!
this was concept art too
last but not least:
and other drabbles (I reaaally didnt want to model a lamp alright)
#I was fr dying during that whole portion of the stream hoooooly shit#sorry it took me a day I was a little Overwhelmed#D.S al fine 3.0 coming…. soon#malevolent podcast#indie game dev#devlog#indiedev#indie horror#godot engine#concept art#shout out to my JOB for not kicking me out of the building after hours so i could record my funny tunes on the grand piano in the lobby.#if you ever wondered about the buzzing in the background of the actual ending track its because its only only take I ended up liking#that so conveniently happened while a loud ass machine was on in the other room#audacity could not save me from myself

I know the discourse well is poisoned and no one hates bioware games more than bioware fans, but I am just 🫠 having so much fun with veilguard it's unreal. It is selfishly the dragon age game I always wanted. with less emphasis on cRPG, a more focused story, curated mission based design that spotlights the high fantasy stuff, slowburn structure with companions, significantly less sidequest bloat, and a fully real-time action-oriented combat system that isn't riddled with the growing pains of previous titles. when I first played origins I imagined something almost exactly like this as my ideal version of a sequel; and it was one of those dirty, selfish thoughts that I knew was disrespectful to the then-established DNA of the thing, but I can't help but feel giddy about having it here and now. like down to the shift away from the childishly dark tone and to something more inherently flexible with a baseline aspirational quality. I hate aesthetically depressing games so much. am I not alive right here and right now already
When I say "aesthetically" there though I do mean it. I'm fully on the opposite side when it comes to tone and positions expressed in the story itself. I am just not including that in my analysis because I am not done yet - so please no spoilers! I think I am where most people consider to be the second act, and I definitely have my gripes with the narrative framework and some of the optics, but I won't put the cart before the horse and will see how it wraps things up first. Above that level, in terms of how it presents itself, of how it plays, of how it balances its core pillars - it is such a bioware-ass game and I could not be any cozier in it. So grateful it exists
#and thank god for that reboot away from live service horseshit they were pushing. this is the most offline ass game in ages. bless#anyway no one is allowed to reblog this because people here aren't normal and I am afraid of spoilers#but I cant pretend not to adore every second of Beef Hilda Mercar and her adventures as a shadow dragon reaper#I have her fully invested in shield throws. that shit couldnt bounce better if zagreus was tossing it#also everyone is so pretty 🫠 this is the first time for me in a bioware game where like#purely aesthetically. i feel targeted and manipulated. these people feel designed around my tastes it's so embarassing#text#dragon age#okay I gotta mention one more thing. it is a very specific ass peeve I have#their dialogue system has never felt as.. nimble in their frostbite titles. something about the constant fades in and out and click delays#it all feels insecure on the engine-end side to me. maybe I am dumb. but veilguard also has this issue#like the original 2 DAs and the unreal engine mass effects had such snappy and frictionless selection-to-dialogue feel#and their frostbite titles I swear to god some greare is missing in the wheels there. here too. it is a LITTLE annoying since this is like#my favorite part of engaging with their games. it's not a huge issue but I have grown keenly attuned to it#inquisition had horribly bad delays in response selection. andromeda had those godawful delays in starting and ending convos#and those things are still somewhat present here albeit to a lesser degree. it feels like a streaming thing#idk. I do not make games. but I think that shit needs to feel smoother

Troublesome Tangmere and 249 Squadron Reliable Rebecca!
In an ideal world, we could've had a story where Tangmere causes good old Sundrian Confusion and Delay and then promptly eats shit.
Rebecca as 249 Squadron wasn't my idea, but it's been ingrained into my head nonetheless. I like the idea of a Rebecca that spent most of her life in scrapyards and storage and then still coming out singing- quite literally! But the trauma of it is still very much there, just... lingering. I imagine 'What Rebecca Does' was one of those moments where her anxiety and self doubt got the better of her- she only spent a short while on rails, and while she did pull expresses like The Night Ferry back on the mainland, here on Sodor it seemed that everyone is much more.... experienced and worldly and cool, and most of all, they got modifications and rebuilds to work around their design flaws while Rebecca is still very much an unrebuilt bulleid pacific. Poor girl's not sure what she can really do, after all these years and with her mechanical problems. This isn't even getting into when she WAS in service- her family was fine, and quite loving actually- and the ex SR engines were a decent sort! Everyone else, however...
#this is all to say that i heart rebecca. and i think the bulleids should get more attention in ttteblr CAN WE GET A HURRAY FOR THE BULLEIDS#live from tidmouth#creative on the mainline#ttte#thomas and friends#thomas the tank engine#ttte rebecca#ttte oc#ttte oc tangmere#stream pollyanna by catherine warwick and maybe you'll understand rebecca as a character#ALSO i imagine that the bulleid pacifics were... looked down upon by the lms and lner pacifics shall we say#the sr engines were probably ignored at best#but i think the other pacifics saw an easy target in the merchant navies and west country/battle of britains because of how... shall we say#rather janked the classes were#which led to the bulleids becoming both supportive yet also very defensive#rebecca's defensiveness manifested more positively. with her not taking stuff personal and playing along#her siblings... not so much#tangmere in particular will go for the jugular if you tease him even slightly#and also im writing a series of rebecca one shots from start of service to being sent to sodor#we'll see if i manage to post even one....

Reminder that the Q&A Live Steam is coming up in ~9 hours (10:00PDT/17:00UTC)! We'll be going live on our YouTube channel to discuss your questions, and there are some good ones queued up! That said, if you have questions during the stream we'll try to get to them. 👍
Also, after this stream we'll be transitioning over to Twitch and ideally start doing semi-regular streams with work sessions, studio news, tutorials, and more Q&A.
(On that note, if this starts to gain traction, we may need a community manager, and regardless, any tips for live streaming would be greatly appreciated as this is fairly new here.)

I think we should make a list of good shows that have 5+ seasons (that preferably were not cancelled abruptly, or at least were wrapped up tidily if they were) and start circulating it and everyone just… slow down on watching new shows. Stop feeding the streamers the binge views on release week. They’re going to cancel the new show anyway, so trying to get as many people completing it within days of release… it’s pointless. Make them wait.
Let’s go back and enjoy some of the work that people put YEARS of effort into - because the shows actually ran for multiple years, and had 13-23 episodes a season.
I’ll start with a few sci-fi reccs:
Eureka (known as A Town Called Eureka in some countries): a normal everyman type guy becomes sheriff in a secret town populated exclusively by genius scientists developing insane(ly cool) technology. He’s got no science smarts but he’s still gotta help save the day when, for example, someone creates a mini-sun. Or grows a plant whose pollen makes everyone lose their inhibitions (it’s not a sex pollen I promise lol). Very comedic, got some found family vibes. Very light scifi. It’s like modern life just with better technology. 5 seasons, and the ending is the right kind of open ending, where you are left knowing everyone is going on with their same preferred adventures, living the lives we watched them build.
Farscape: a human astronaut is shot through a wormhole and meets copious amounts of alien creatures. They are all unique kinds of ‘fucking weird’. There’s lots of jokes and it’s sci-fi that doesn’t look all clean and polished like Star Trek. Also their spaceship is a living creature and her name is Moya and she loves them. Equal parts comedic and dark, got those found family vibes. Hard scifi. Everything takes place on spaceships and the main character is the only human. Awesome practical effects on the aliens, most of which the Jim Henson Company worked on. Technically only 4 seasons but they were 22 episodes each, and then they made a miniseries cuz s4 ended on a cliffhanger and they wanted to fix that
Add to the list and pass it on.
#I’m not gonna list where these shows are streaming because streamers always be dropping shit so it changes#and also you have access to a search engine use it for yourself

I feel like if Q was a YouTuber he'd have anti-Bob Ross energy. Like he still says everything in a calm manner, but it is so not Bob Ross you know?
#also while i have you here: peem pun and tan would be vloggers chain isnt one but is popular by association#lowkey think it would be funny if tan was a fitnesstuber or a computer guy cause apparently he is a computer engineer#obviously matt and mick would be video game streamers#phum is popular for being rich and that is about it and he lowkey hates it#like hed have so many followers on Instagram because they envy his lifestyle#beer and fang are also popular through association#the thai online space explodes when tanfang reveal they are dating because what an unexpected crossover#toey is also not in the online sphere but he sometimes joins matt for streams and falls asleep to q's videos#we are#we are series#we are the series

i really wish we got the tf2 tv show because i think, about your talk about how pyro ends up being a foil to the other characters, pyro is such a wildcard of a character that if you need someone for an episode to complete a dynamic it's pyro. he's designated driver. he's the mcdonalds employee. he's scout's ma. she's helping miss p dismember bodies. it's coming in through the dog door
your ask got me thinking about how i'd use pyro in a show and IDK if anyone else has seen Solar Opposites but how they split the Pupa's screentime between A + B plots in the first/second season would be spot on the money for me. Pyro could be there, in the A plot, in small ways (like you said, at the back of the bus or en rotue to the episodes mission) but then gets sucked into a 'mundane' B plot for some tonal levity within the episode. Pyro's gotta run that FTSE 500 company! They've gotta seduce the Ballicorn comic writer in order to read the never-published final issue! They've gotta earn an Astrophysics PHD in order to steal their Professor's Pokemon topped pen....that sort of thing. And then occassionaly they can show up with the deus-ex-mechina for the episode with the rest of the team being none the wiser (other than vaguely baffled as their flamethrower could've REALLY come in handy fighting those haunted scarecrows).
#maybe not EVERY episode but you know...enough to be a thing perhaps#all the characters are so good though that TBH having any of them sucked into their own 'mundane' B plot is really funny to me#everyone gets abducted by aliens whilst spy runs a model village attraction in sweden in order to gain access to the australium its built o#the team deal with 'ironic curses' by merasmus whilst engineer engages in petty local politics in order to get a parking spot closer to the#hardware store#heavy enters an esparanto contest! the team get sent back in time!#those sort of episode descriptions on streaming services always crack me up#tf2 pyro#asks

one topic I find weirdly charming is stuff for kids that's basically specific to one place. when there's some obscure thing that pretty much everyone outside your country goes 'what?' and everyone in your country goes 'OH MY GOD THAT' when you mention it, that's the shit
#personal crap#you are not only invited but requested to put your country's examples of this :p#i don't mean shit like thomas the tank engine or asterix or tintin or moomins that get everywhere i mean very region specific shit#ofc this also excludes like 90% of american kid's stuff lmao#i mostly though of this because of a jj mccullough video where he went to chile#and one thing he got was a print of this famous cartoon character that chileans love but doesn’t exist outside chile#and bc of joel joking about being scared of bamse on an april fools stream#so when i went to malmö and saw a bamse painted on a wall i went oh shit#obviously as a brit i know tonnes of ours- mostly old animated shows like magic roundabout and wombles and clangers lol#though it's still wild to me how we share the first one with the french#sidenote but someone made a fascinating documentary on yt about the movie of that and how it became doogle#he discussed the whole history of it and even interviewed a bunch of the writers and animators it was really interesting
